281  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does possessing information play an important role in betting ? on: March 09, 2024, 10:54:56 PM
Hi,

Information plays a major role in anything we do in our daily lives: work, study, investment, and undertaking projects in general, and possessing it is a useful strategy if we exploit it well.

In some fields, possessing information is considered more important than anything else, and obtaining it is difficult. Its importance is highlighted in the ability of the owner of the information to manipulate it as he wants and use it at the appropriate time and in the appropriate place for personal or public benefit.

In gambling, for example, we find that one of the strategies of a successful gambler is to always strive to obtain every piece of information that he can benefit from in order to use it to his advantage against other players or the casino, and his plan of action lies in:

-Obtaining information and analyzing it to ensure its validity before using it to avoid falling into the trap of fallacy.
-Ensuring the confidentiality of information, as the gambler must make sure that he is the only one who possesses the correct information and falsify it in order to deceive others.
-Use them at the right time to control the game and betting.

Possessing the correct information in the world of gambling is an advanced and useful step, as it makes the player play more comfortably without pressure from other players, which can change the course of the game at any time, increase the percentage of chances of profit, and reduce the percentage of losses on the other hand.

-Do you apply  this strategy while gambling?
-How do you benefit from it ?

First off, DUH.

Of course having information about the game you play among other more important things are essential to gather the slightest bits of advantages when you make bets. Imagine placing bets and/or gambling without having the slightest clue about the game you're trying to make a bet on. Not only are you sure to lose, you're also prone to getting duped as you don't even know the rules to the game which other players may take advantage of, and of course it's not that fulfilling not knowing shit about why you lost or whatever.

It's not even a strategy per se to research or gain extensive knowledge about the game you're trying to play before actually playing it. It's just part of the process for you to not get slammed by fate or people who would take advantage of your ignorance. It's that basic, it's that important. You don't just think of it as a strategy, you think of it as a postulate you must always do when you make bets regardless if you play for fun or you play to earn the prizes. Cause either way you're going to lose and it's much better knowing why you lost and how you lost than not knowing shit and letting your skepticism get the better of you. Again, don't think of gathering every bit of information you can as a simple strategy. It's not. It's a literal necessity.
282  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has this ever happened to you as a gambler? on: March 08, 2024, 11:44:35 PM
What could cause a gambler to place a bet to the extent that he no longer has money to pay for the games he played?

This story happened in my presence on Friday, when I visited a physical betting shop to book some games after that my battery ran down in the process of trying to place some bets with my smartphone to bet on a game that will kick-start in some minutes. There I was, there was this gentleman who was there before me playing the visual game and to cut the whole story short at the end, the gambler started having issues with the person who placed the games for him, reason being that after playing the visual game the gambler no longer has the money to pay the person, and he optioned to dropping his smartphone until when he brings the money and the money amounts to about $15+ and this lead to the owner of the shop inviting the police to settle the matter.

So the question now is: What could really put a gambler in such a situation, addiction, or greediness?
I think you already have the answer to your question and you’re just posting this for the sake of idk, impressions in the forum or post count to reach the quota (no offense meant). But whatever that is, I’ll humor you  and settle something of debate here.

Greed can get you far, desperation can get you further. Pretty sure the guy already knew what he’s getting himself in and pushed for greediness because he’s desperate as hell to bag that win for the guy who entrusted him with the money. He’s probably down on his luck and is counting on those little wins to come by so he can at the very least breka even, and when that didn’t happen and he dried the old guy’s whole bankroll, he opted for the more “financially irresponsible, but logically sensible move” to do which is pawning his phone to the old man. This happens all the time in the real world and I’m pretty sure he’s not gonna be the last guy to receive that feeling of impending doom when someone’s obliging you to pay up.
283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I just woke up and saw wins in my gambling app on: March 08, 2024, 11:32:35 PM
I know this is not a new experience for many old gamblers that has been into gambling, but for me it's a new one, I've played a game over a week ago and I didn't even bother to check cause I never expect it to play out or let's say I mostly forgot since it was a busy week, just yesterday I logged it to check out the booking code my friend sent to me so I could fund my account and try it, the nest thign i saw from sporty was a win on my screen, I was shocked thinking it as a network glitch or something then I went to check my balance I had just won some cash, I was happy.

And worst of it, I never expected that game to play it was a rare case of I just tried my luck.

This is another reason why gambling can not be a job or anything like a source of income cause you can't know your games would play out and no predictions is ever accurate.

If you have such experience share it with us let's see the luck guys around.
Kind of novel to see quite sensible perspectives from people nowadays. The average joe/avid gambler will see/experience the same thing and assume that this is the testament that they need to further drive the idea that gambling can be made into a sustainable income stream, and yet here you are looking at the other side of the fence throwing massive nuggets of wisdom which I must say is something to be proud of.

In any case gambling for profit or not, these types of unexpected wins should be welcomed and savored to its fullest. Partly the reason why people go back to gambling only to lose it all and get afflicted with gambling addiction too is because they failed to savor their gambling wins. They keep chasing wins thinking itMs what would make them happy not realizing that what they do with the wins matter more than the prize itself. And so I always suggest to people that they use up their winnings for the day if they don’t have a dedicated gambling bankroll since it makes sure you enjoy every penny you got from the games you played.
284  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Simple mistake that makes you lose everything on: March 08, 2024, 11:16:47 PM
I always have this kind of mistake before way back when I’m still inexperienced gambler. A simple mistake such as not placing a bet on a round that result to massive win just because my screen glitch makes me tilted that resulted to lose focus and bust all my bankroll quickly due to risky bets.

There’s some instances that I’m already winning big on blackjack then one of my bet is a pair of 10 which I accidentally double down instead of stand while I place huge bet triggers me a lot that result to terrible loss.

I’m sure many players here experience this kind of minor mistakes that resulted to terrible outcome. Share your story and let’s have fun hearing it. I hope there’s no BS story…
I wouldn't really call things that are out of your control (which for example is you being unable to predict that making a bet on that particular round's going to win you a wad of money) as a mistake. Since first off, you only did so because you literally have little to nothing to work with when it comes to determining whether you'd win or not. Furthermore, you did the right thing in this situation which normally would ensure you don't lose all your money in one go.

I don't want you to beat yourself up for stuff that you have no agency or control over. It's one thing to regret perhaps losing all your money when you're revenge gambling, after all, you're always in control of when and how to stop yourself from bleeding any more cash while you're gambling, while it's another to actually not have a clue whether you'd win or lose. So yeah, don't be regretful over stuff like that, I personally don't even consider them as mistakes since you really have nothing to do with it. Save your regrets and head scratches for more in-line reasons like actually fumbling your whole bankroll all because you didn't stop when you're already frustrated and on the edge.
285  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dont chase your loss on: March 07, 2024, 11:54:26 PM
It is best you gamble when necessary not because you want to chase your loss and win back you money, many are victim of this circumstances and for me is a bad practice and this might make you not to employe your gambling skills and roles because you inhast in your decision making. What is your opinion on this?
I think there’s a fine line between chasing losses and going for another run, and more often than not people mistakenly justify chasing their losses from prior bets by supposing that all they are ever doing is going for another run. And some of us here might even be confused by this since for all you know chasing losses could be just the same as going for another run when you bet. But let me tell you how different they are

Going for another run when you’re gambling is a normal and acceptable process. You go in and place another stake regardless of the results of the prior bet. You play and hope for the best, and then get your results. But the key distinction is to what you do/what happens after you receive the results. Cause if you’re really just going for another run, you wouldn’t be affected by the prior result even if it was a loss, and you’d play or stop depending on your presets.

Chasing after your losses however puts you into this perpetual cycle of bagging a win that will never come, which of course, forces you to make more bets cause you gotta make it even in your head. Eventually you wither lose hope or lose money, but if both were of infinite resource quality you would’ve pushed through.

Now, when you gamble, do you think you’re just going for another run after a prior bet, or are you chasing after losses?
286  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have a habit of tracking your gambling progress? on: March 07, 2024, 11:27:23 PM
Do you have a habit of tracking your gambling progress?
I do, and I wish people are more prudent and responsible with their gambling expenditures as it's one of the easiest and surefire ways for you to instill discipline and responsible gambling behaviors without heavily changing your gambling behaviors. a simple fast tracking of how much you spent on gambling per day or perhaps per week is more than enough for you to have a good overview of how much you're spending towards gambling, and from there have some sort of realization towards your gambling, as is the case with me.

Back then not only am I a massive baller when it comes to gambling (I still am), but I never tracked how much I spent besides the occasional "knowing how much I gambled from the last bet" which isn't really enough as it doesn't drive just how big you spend on gambling as compared to if you were to reliably track your gambling expenditure. When I succumbed to gambling addiction and started with my recovery program, along with multiple methods/regimens I also extensively tracked just how much I was spending every week for gambling to drive the realization and the regret back home. From then on I made it a point to gamble on a tight budget and make sure I don't go over it regardless of the circumstances. Gladfully, I was able to fall through with this plan and 3 years forward, I gamble with a newfound sense of discipline.
287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indirect victims of gambling addiction on: March 07, 2024, 11:11:30 PM
Hi community,

As with any addiction, the effects of addiction to games of chance and betting do not fall on the gambler alone. It affects the family, friends, relatives, and everyone around him, and may lead to the deterioration of their conditions.

It negatively affects social relationships and at the marital level. Pathological gambling can be described as a side relationship. The gambler invests his attention in gambling at the expense of the spouse, whom he sometimes repays to cover his infidelity. The marital relationship is destabilized against a background of lack of trust, helplessness, and anxiety about what will happen in the future.

Gambling and accumulated debts  lead the gambler to a moral collapse that may even amount to an existential threat to family members. Gamblers do not hesitate to sell property to finance their debts, take loans from relatives without any ability to repay the debts, and in extreme cases they may even physically harm family members.

Partners in dependency - Relatives often try to "understand" the addict and help him, by paying off his debts, while accepting his promise to stop gambling, a promise he is unable to keep. More than once, family members come to the aid process, becoming partners so that they become “addicted” to the therapeutic process. But help works in exactly the opposite direction instead of helping the gambler wean off, they perpetuate his condition. These partners, such as parents or spouses, may find themselves in great distress that requires treatment.

Of course, there are many indirect victims of gambling addiction. Can you add more?

Since you're asking for other people who could be affected by someone who's addicted to gambling, let me add some:

1. Children and young persons dependent upon the addict: Initially, they get all that they need from the gambler before the gambling addiction took over his brain and his logical and rational thinking region's clouded by thoughts of reclaiming all his losses in the casino. It could be monetary, emotional, or even inspirational aid, which is cut short and abruptly by the way, once the gambler finally succumbs to gambling addiction. All of a sudden sustenance and money is harder to come by, they become an absentee/deadbeat parent/guardian, and they may even start to abuse these children as a means of letting out steam and frustration from an unsuccessful night/session of gambling. Some are even forced to go into child labor for the sake of supporting their family when the parents couldn't. And even worse, gambling addicts who sees no light at the end of the tunnel and are left to commit suicide leave children and relatives behind to carry the emotional baggage that they will leave them with, as well as the debts that they failed to pay when they are still alive.

2. Strangers, in certain instances: Some gamblers who fail to get the money to support their vices end up committing crimes like robbery or even more heinous ones to sustain their addiction and their gambling streak, thus, this may leave people who shouldn't even have anything to do with the gambler victimized all because they unfortunately happened to walk the same road that the addicted and desperate gambler tread upon. Fucking sucks but I've seen a lot of people lose money and sometimes even their lives because of someone's uncontrolled gambling addiction.
288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Making decisions while betting on: March 07, 2024, 10:57:47 PM
Sane or not, there will always be biases that you'd fall under when you make decisions, more especially when you gamble. I've seen people fall for stupid fallacies which then lead them to lose all their money and then some more. Which is also why when I fell to gambling addiction and started my recovery program, I made it a point and a promise to myself to never fall for any more biases in the future should I go back to gamble, and if I do fall for biases, let it be objectivity and sound logic.

Years forward, I'm as clean as one can be, and while I still gamble I continue to keep the promise I made with myself, and have been using logic and objective knowledge when I gamble. I even employ strats that would ensure that I don't lose my shit whenever I gamble. I still lose money that's for sure, but it's money that doesn't come from my pocket anymore and money that I could afford to lose tenfold without me having to beg for scraps on the streets. I don't wanna sound like I just survived something horrible (which I did) but then again I guess it just can't be helped when you're able to crack the secret of actually gambling for entertainment and not losing your marbles over every loss you incur when gambling.
289  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul to Fight Mike Tyson in Live Netflix Boxing Event - July 20 on: March 07, 2024, 10:45:23 PM
He just beat Ryan Bourland recently who looks like not willing to fight and Jake is up again for another.
They should call this a fight but an exhibition but believe it or not is happening. You think Mike is done after Roy Jones but Jake wants to pull him again for he just needs recognition from the boxing community.

I would be surprised if Mike beats Jake. He is 60.  Would you bet if its on Stake?

Quote
Jake Paul is set to fight former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a boxing match that will be livestreamed on Netflix.

The bout is scheduled to take place on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas and will be available to all Netflix subscribers. Additional information, including the co-main event and undercards, will be announced at a later date. It is being produced in a partnership between Netflix and Paul’s and Nakisa Bidarian’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).

This will not be the first time Paul and Tyson have appeared on a boxing card together. Paul fought in the co-main event of the pay-per-view that saw Tyson fight an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which was Tyson’s first boxing match since 2006. Paul defeated former NBA player Nate Robinson via knockout in the second round in what was Paul’s second professional boxing match.

https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/jake-paul-mike-tyson-fight-netflix-1235932856/
I saw a twitter post a few minutes ago talking about how shameless Jake Paul is for forcing this old legend who's 60 years old by the by and is walking with a literal cane for support to fight against him for money and clout, but then again this is Mike Tyson we're talking about so if he pisses him enough to really bring the old tiger out of the cage then we might see Jake Paul dying this match (in the metaphorical and possibly literal sense).Never liked the guy and never will, the fights he set for himself are heavily rigged towards him and he usually just goes for the weak fishes or the old dogs so his wins do not mean shit really, this time it could be different, since as we all know Mike may have gotten soft from all these years, but he's still a ferocious beast regardless and we could see said beast come out if pissed off enough.

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm looking forward to this fight considering Mike's opponent's a literal Disney Channel graduate, and thus far I've never been really impressed with Jake Paul at all, but this is Mike we're talking about, so we might just see something really cool happen.
290  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC ATH in local currency on: March 04, 2024, 04:57:11 PM
Inflation in my country shows a big gap with the dollar, when bitcoin touches the price level of $64k, ATH 2021 has been touched by our country's currency which is IDR 980 million / rounded up 1M, while in 2021 the value of the Dollar equivalent to my country's Rupiah is approximately $69k to get the amount of 980 million / 1M. Here it is clear that for 2-3 years we have experienced much crazier inflation, with a difference of $5k. That's heartbreaking to me, and luckily I kept most of my savings in BTC, and today it's getting a much better price increase, and it's enough for me to spend a year with my family if I sell it.

I would like to ask if in your country BTC has reached the old ATH or even the new ATH at the current price if using your local currency?
In the Philippines, you could buy a house and lot FULLY PAID with 65k and possibly still have some change left. And that is because we're living in a third-world country where prices are generally still lower when compared against same products from other countries. Of course, this also means that our money's got shit purchasing power against other countries' but in the preface of spending less money everywhere else, I think this works a lot well. Going back to your question, and don't quote me on this, If I'm not mistaken bitcoin's already went past the All Time High from 2021 by a couple thousand pesos give and take, and while that is a great thing for the average joe I don't really take it as something that I should be proud of cause that just means my country's fiat's gone to the shitbox once again, this time in a deeper level than it was back then.

Although I don't think we should really concern ourselves about bitcoin's price in local currency, the current global standard is the US Dollar and it's worked well so far in providing us with  a pretty comprehensive insight as to how much bitcoin's gone up in the past. I think that's all the comparison we're going to need lol.
291  Economy / Economics / Re: Reckless financial decision ? on: March 04, 2024, 04:55:01 PM
Do you think a celebrity who turns down a multi-million dollar deal solely because the organization doesn't allow him smoking weed is a reckless financial decision?
Keep in mind this definition of reckless financial decision - It entails when a person makes choices that involve significant financial risk or lack of consideration for the potential consequences.

What other reckless financial decision do you know or have heard of?
Depends really, this is a celebrity we're talking about with propensity to drive millions of dollars towards themselves, and not just be a driving force to be used by brands and figures for their own personal gain. The management probably sees this potential in the person and decided that it's not worth the multi-million dollar deal, and thus opted to not go for that particular option. In which case I wouldn't really call it a reckless financial decision cause at the end of the day, the celebrity's got something more valuable (at least intrinsically) than the money at the table, which is his reputation, his brand presence, and the potential that he could put to the table that may be jeopardized if they went with the weed product deal.

What I would consider a reckless financial decision is buying stuff under credit in the heat of the moment. For example. I've got an uncle who's indecisive and is often duped into purchasing products he doesn't need out of the pressure exerted against him by salespersons on the mall. That is an example of a reckless financial decision, not the one you just gave us in my opinion.
292  Other / Meta / Re: I think we should have a dedicated Notifications Tab on: March 04, 2024, 04:50:18 PM
it's quite the cumbersome process having to check your email, or download an application arguably riddled by sex predators, hackers, and scammers every single time you wanna know if you got notifications.
I don't know if SMF supports the feature you're suggesting and there are ways around using telegram safely and not getting exposed to the dark side of it, if you want to consider that option.

Not a complaint but a suggestion too, imagine if you get notifications straight into the forum itself, you'd be able to quickly get into the action, seeing who sent you merits, flags; who replied to your comment and a snippet of what their comment was to give you a little bit of context, replies to posts you made comments on if possible, (or this is not you and you'd like to argue), drop some insights below.
We can already see who sent us merit using a increase in our merit count as a notification, flags as well, if we visit our trust page. Replies to our posts and comments is the one aspect the forum does not have without an extension.
All I'm really asking is for a button that would collectively that tells you what went on with your account while you're away, at least without having to check on your bot-integrated telegram and risk getting your identity stolen and used for scams especially if you're a prominent figure here, or through emails which pose their own sets of risks as well. I'm not asking for dedicated notification buttons for every single type of activity within this forum because that would defeat the purpose of convenience that I am driving here. And it's not like it's that difficult as well, people are literally able to code Doom on pregnancy tests as we speak and we couldn't implement this feature because?

Although I've been enlightened a little bit about the ins and outs of the forum and why it just wouldn't work/it wouldn't really work in favor of the developers if we implement such a major feature in the forum, it still kinda upsets me as I've said in the past that we had to go through this cause of limitations, when I've seen other forums be able to do more with their site.
293  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just a friendly Bitcoin friend reminder - High price = more scams on: March 04, 2024, 04:45:11 PM
The Bitcoin price are reaching a new All-time-high again and we all know scammers are trying their best to get their hands on your coins.

I have seen a significant increase in Phishing emails, trying to get me to click on stupid links.

I never click on any links and all my coins are stored in long-term cold storage, so I know they are out of reach, but many people have hot wallets and they might be a target.

So guys... be safe out there and protect your coins. It's crazy season and the scammers are very active.
I've seen the same upsurge you're talking about.

While I receive the occasional "you got 1 bitcoin on this certain exchange, you need to verify your account and register to claim it" or something along those lines, as well as the Nigerian Prince email (LOL), I'm not quite sure if it's just me being very particular with the crypto scams during these instances or if they definitely increased in strength and numbers but the bottomline is, hackers are bound to get massive bags during this time period cause we got a lot of newbies who are just so ignorant about the crypto world, or people who are easily blinded by the prospect of a large sum of money which is the very thing these scammers hook them with. Perhaps besides actually acquainting yourself with these scams, and building common sense of course, you might wanna master self-discipline and skepticism cause 9 times out of 10 that's what's going to save you from losing all your money in the crypto industry, where you're a single click away from losing all your shit.

Be smart, be skeptical, don't do stupid things, do all of this and you're sure to never lose a single dime out of your cold and hard wallet, as easy as that.
294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tournament gave 25 bitcoins as prize to last places on: March 04, 2024, 04:33:51 PM
These were gamers we're talking about. If they see the price of each bitcoin go up even by a dollar or ten dollars, they'd immediately sell those for equipment or gears in game. The chances of them still having those bitcoins are pretty slim, and if ever they still have them, they'd probably be famous by now since they are millionaires.

If I was one of those people in that tournament, I wouldn't believe it if I find out that me losing a tournament would have made me a millionaire.
I'm a gamer and this is especially true. In my circle of friends alone we got steam money cycling where we sell games, sell in-game items, and pretty much everything that you've earned from playing games and transacting for them with real money, in that way we wouldn't have to spend pocket money for games anymore, which is certainly a good thing, and a massive blunder for those starcraft players if that's what they did with the 25 bitcoins they earned lol. Although these are the same people that got their greatest paychecks from the last crypto bull run, with some of them even earning a single bitcoin from literal nothing all because they held, played, and grinded their asses off till their earned their keep. So besides the fact that they are gamers, I think you should also include the consideration that bitcoin way back then was worth literal snot, and to the people of that time period, they'd much rather spend that money instead of keep it and collect dust, and possibly lose access cause this is bitcoin that we're talking about, I've seen people lose access to their wallets for a shorter amount of time, so what more would these people?

There's a lot of things at play here besides "they are just gamers, of course they're going to spend it", that's some hasty generalization right there unbacked by any sort of evidence whatsoever.

Based on the situation of this couple, regardless of them being split soon after the winning, I think the best thing to do here is to cut the prize into half so that tensions between the two parties will de-escalate and avoid any confrontation or emotional turmoil and stress that sometimes end up so badly on both of them. Ego clash won't bear good results that is why we need to keep ourselves calm and fair with others especially in a situation like this.

Have you ever tried something like this situation before?
So what is your thoughts on this, 50/50 good for you or nah?
Will you insist to have an ego battle if you are on the same situation?
If your answer is yes then Why?
And if no then why not?
What are the things you would do to resolve the issue?
How do you think you can handle this kind of situation?

I'm guessing it's all fine and dandy as long as they have separated amicably, although honestly speaking, the guy's one perfect example of why you should sign up for a pre-nuptial agreement. Cause at the end of the day when you die before her, she's gonna get the money you have, and if she really loves you before the cash, then she'd be more than willing to marry you and face the prospect of not getting a single dime out of you should you guys file for divorce later down the line. I've seen quite a lot of males in here get fucked sideways when the divorce settlements come in, not only losing literal halves of their net worth to someone who would bad mouth them against their friends and possibly your kids if you decided to have any, and fuck someone you barely know while you're out there trying to pick up the pieces of your broken marriage and life. It sucks but it all stems from the fact that we trust people too hard until we sit and realize that the person we loved all these years isn't the same person we're sitting across the courtroom anymore. Oh well, hope the guy in OP's post is doing fine, hope he realizes that this is not the end of the world for him.

I've been wanting to increase the number of my long-term crypto investments for a while now and I've already got like a good amount of BTC that I can comfortably invest without pulling out and I've checked Bitvest just out of curiosity and I've seen that you can invest in their website, I think I've seen it with Bustabit and Bustadice too back then, are they still doing that or is there like a lot of new casinos that are offering this kind of thing, I can't recall how it works when you invest in them so I'm going to ask (although I feel like stupid forgetting how it works), how does it work? And are there any other trusted casinos that are offering this investment? Is it a bad investment?
Pretty sure it's still a thing, especially in crypto casinos particularly. Even saw a particular up and coming decentralized crypto casino advertise about letting their users have a stake at the profit that the casino would receive, which is pretty much textbook investment. And while the implications are certainly great for the user I could picture these gambling maniacs just finding yet another excuse to splurge all their cash in a crypto casino, without getting virtue signaled cause now they get to tell people that they earn within the casino.

In any case, I don't think looking for casinos to invest on is something that you'd really prefer, a lot of them would choose franchising over shareholding since that brings in more money and brings their brand to a higher level of presence, and if I'm not mistaken there's only so few casinos on the stock exchange that you can put your money on, and even then you'd never really expect much of them to bring in the profit. As for bitvest, I haven't checked their whole business model just yet but I'm assuming the same business model that worked for brands in the past, not really sparking confidence if you'd ask me.

In general, anything that can be done external from the forum should be done external from the forum. It's less convenient, but also less work for Admin and for sure doesn't introduce other complications on the forum. I've seen some of theymos' upgrades that had "side effects".
So basically the problem lies around the fact that SMF has had its limitations brought about by the passage of time and it being an ancient forum-providing system, and not necessarily about the unwillingness of the developers (no offence meant) to create such feature? Cause all this time I was under the impression that the only reason why we still don't have this feature is because the devs just don't see value in creating such features when Tryninja and email push notifs are easily accessible, LOL. In that regard I wouldn't really take it against them anymore, but it's quite a bummer that all because we're working with a potato system/platform we couldn't get some nifty features that would make the user experience here quite a spectacle.

In any case, I guess we couldn't really expect such a feature to come up in the foreseeable future given the lack of hope in some of these comments, I've also seen some people just flat out prefer options that would require you to enter even more cumbersome processes as a user, sadge.

Bitcoin blowup: Domestic dispute turns crypto catastrophe with six-hour standoff in central Thailand
Quote
A heated dispute over Bitcoin investment loss led to a domestic violence incident that escalated into a six-hour standoff with the police. The 35 year old husband, Kritsada, shot his wife and barricaded himself in their home in Uthai district, Ayutthaya province, before eventually surrendering to the authorities.

I just found a news story and tried to find more content related to this story, and this is all I know about this story. It makes me imagine stories that I have encountered before in the investment environment, where losses occur and make people lose their original reason for earning money, which is also to bring home and build a better family life. I don't want to discuss the reasons for investment failure here, but from the story associated with bitcoin, it will also continue to happen, but in a different form.

Bitcoin is getting more and more popular, and it is labeled with many different stories. I can see many people blaming Bitcoin as the cause of all the problems, but clearly the main problem is people causing them related to Bitcoin.

In my opinion, you couldn't blame bitcoin for this. Pretty sure the husband's already got anger issues from the get-go, only heightened after knowing about losing the prospect of earning a huge amount of money. Thailand's not really particularly known to be that hostile, nor to be a crypto-friendly country personally so I'm actually surprised to see news like these break out. I guess scumbags just aren't determined by race or ethnicity at this point. Hopefully the guy gets jailed and barred. There's no amount of money that would justify hitting a woman, not when they've been very good and honest and helpful to you. That's someone's daughter and would eventually be someone's mother, you've practically thrown away your positive masculinity perk the moment you lift just as much as a finger against a girl.

To the young lady, I hope she finds someone who's smart enough to handle her, small misunderstandings don't warrant any form of violence, and good for her for being a crypto savvy person to begin with. All the more reasons for her to be able to stay away from poor bastards who assert dominance against those they are inferior against with threats of violence. Not cool man.

I am not sure if this was already posted but it will give especially the newbies some idea on how bitcoin grown in over time, and how it looked like before. So, based on the image below it was the last prizes for the participants of Starcraft tournament from fifth to eight place got 25 bitcoins each.

The tournament held in 2011 where the price of bitcoin was still low where it's like from $0.3 to $3.
For context: Tournament's Last-Place Bitcoin Prize Could've Made Starcraft Losers Millionaires.

I wonder if any of those players that have won bitcoin kept a few or if there's a source where they've given statements on how they've kept or spent it after wards. If you'll ask me, even I, I might sell those if I saw it went up to $50 or $100 earlier in those years.

I'll be just giving the estimates for the last ATH and in today's time but we can conclude that most of them were sold already too early.
25 bitcoins * $69,000 = $1,725,000
25 bitcoins * $24,500 = $612,500

Right now, we usually see prizes coming from crypto casinos and I rarely see it become a prize to any tournament whether it's an actual physical sports or e-sports.

Link to another the same and interesting story of getting paid bitcoin earlier(2013): A painter received $50 worth of bitcoin on June 2013.

But they didn't Tongue, and that's the point. Back then bitcoins were worth shit, and to get these as a prize for winning a mini starcraft tournament's like getting a participation trophy for that one competition you joined as a kid for the lols but secretly hoped you'd get the first place. It's upsetting but you know why you got it. Pretty sure there's an interview/reddit deep dive made by someone back then about one of the winners (particularly Jumper) of that 25 bitcoin prize, if I'm not mistaken (and don't quote me on this) they spent the tokens and hadn't seen a dime of it ever since, they're regretful of course, as I would assume but not so much that they'd swear off of crypto anymore, although it's a massive bummer realizing you could've loaded up and became a millionaire had you just saved what practically is the worth of 25 bucks back then.

Makes me think of the mini tournaments held as well these days with crypto as prizes, most of them for their own utility coins that have little to no outside purpose besides their network, much like what bitcoin is back then. Will they flourish? Will some of the winners keep their coins only to lose their seed phrases/passwords? Will they spend it and eventually be remorseful when they find out they could've cashed out, saved, and sat on a million dollar paycheck in the future? Ahh, it makes me all excited and giddy about the future of Esports and cryptocurrency.
300  Economy / Economics / Re: Recession soon? on: March 03, 2024, 11:28:23 PM
People might be aware that some of the esteemed and largest organisations are laying off their employees left right and centre, are we heading into recession? Because I have seen my colleagues getting laid off and it's been months they are unable to find a job. Either we are heading towards recession or globally companies overhired the employees post COVID hence clearing the additional manpower. I am bit convinced that it's like recession sort of thing and not sure to over hiring. Share your thoughts on this crisis which has left a good amount of people without any work.
Bro recession's been here all the time, everyone's just in denial at this point and would not care to admit that the economy is on its way to destination fucked. Just recall what happened last 2022, the US literally tried to circumvent a recession by changing the definition of a recession, is that something that sparks confidence that "we're not in the recession yet"? For me, no. It's only time until one country croaks and once that happens, I can see a massive domino effect pushing every other country on the planet to fight back but eventually lose, soon enough we're gonna get into one of the coldest economic times for the fiat industry, and if things do not go well war and famine would ensue, not even crypto's gonna save us at that point.

The job market's not specifically made difficult by the impending recession however, although I could see it becoming an effect and a herald of the times to come. In my opinion the only reason why it's so hard to find a job these days is because the market's becoming even more competitive, with the people who's got the skills and the grits getting all the job posts while those who would rather complain than upskill are left behind, it's just louder now cause compared to the 40s, we have the internet to voice out and produce echo chambers that makes us feel like we're bigger even though we're practically the minority.
