281  Other / Off-topic / How to lose your funds on: May 08, 2020, 02:57:19 AM
Here's a quick how to lose your funds guide.

1. Keep your coins at various exchanges rather than your own wallets.
2. Send large amounts of crypto to unknown people who you've never had business with and who have no presense in the space.
3. Be as disorganized as possible with your backups, ideally you shouldn't even have any backups, if that hard drive fails, your funds dissapear too.

I don't know anything about lizard people, but I'll tell you one of the most legitimately terrifying facts there is out there to discover.

Aligator's penises are hidden and always erect. They have a set of mucles that just causes them to pop out of their body.

So before you start messing around trying to expose the lizard people, know that you're playing a very dangerous game.

283  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: April 29, 2020, 03:14:31 PM
Bernie as the nomination doesn't seem so bad now, I guess.

The DNC would rather see a Trump presidency than winning with Bernie. They're all working for their donors.

As for Tara Reade, how could there be any concrete evidence? I personally believe it, and the evidence that she's telling the truth is compelling. She left a job, talked to her family about it, and the establishment tried to bury it.

SecularTalk's theory is that there are definitely more women out there, and maybe we'll hear from them. I believe it.

Once the first one comes out, it's much easier for more of them to join in. If they still have ties with the establishment it might be really difficult however.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happend..... on: April 28, 2020, 02:06:38 PM
Governments are trying to take back control with regulations and taxes.
Exchanges requiring ID (KYC) etc. (hahahahaha fail)
Developers are requested to make themselves public
Previously rather unknown people. but with success in crypto, are for some reason seen as some sort of "Messiah" (binance dev for example)
etc.
etc.
etc.

Well, technically you always had to pay your taxes
The biggest exchange was Mt.Gox, and it required verification for larger amounts as well.
Developers of genuinely awesome stuff, that don't ask people to buy in using funds, can make whatever they want anonymously. In the early days, a new altcoin was very severely judged if it was pre-mined. If people want to ask for tons of cash, with no upfront work, unlike Satoshi they may need to show their credentials.
I think there are lots of crypto to crypto exchanges that don't need KYC.

There were a few positive things that have been shut-down and that will be missed.
There were a lot of betting websites that weren't blocked to people from the US. Satoshi Dice for example and betting on outcome style websites.
The one that shutdown that made me the saddest was one with bitcoin denominated stocks. We could have had our own stock markets.

I'm generally happy with where things are now. If you put some legwork in, you can do all the things that you could do in the early days, perhaps except for mining and getting some btc through faucets.

I wanna see a bitcoin stock market again though.
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Information About Bitcoin Halving on: April 28, 2020, 12:56:17 PM
That's a nice website.

I think the most important part of this halving, and why it is historic is that inflation will finally be under the fed's target for annual inflation which is 2%

This is a good point to mark the end of the early days.
286  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the US Stimulus check going to raise the price for bitcoin? on: April 24, 2020, 01:30:33 AM
Well, I'm going to tell my personal story here. I didn't have any extra to drop into BTC, but with my stimulus check I decided to drop in another $500.

My electronic transfer to an exchange took a while, and I didn't take long to decide to drop it in, because I was thinking other people will rush to buy and I won't be able to get a good price. Closely to as soon as the money showed up to an exchange I made the decision to just do one big transaction.

I locked in 7100, and then got the bitcoin into my own wallet to add to my stack of sats.

I accept the risk of the price going down, but it looks like a favorable gamble to me. Halving + Extra money in circulation
287  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the US Stimulus check going to raise the price for bitcoin? on: April 23, 2020, 11:01:51 AM
Yeah, I think it had been discussed before.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5238281.0

Yes, some may use it to by bitcoin but some may not.
As for my own opinion, I would rather keep it for now.
You just don't know what could happen. Better to have some cash in case of emergencies.
The percentage might really be low for those who are thinking about risking it.

I should have looked at more than the first page of topics, that was pretty lazy of me.

$1,200 is a lot if you don't lose your job, and people are also going to get money back from their tax returns as well. I think it's only natural some of that money will go into bitcoin.

Than again, $1,200 is almost nothing if you're starting at 0 savings and you want to be responsible and build 6-8 months worth of savings. Let's say you want to set aside 16,000 in case you lose your job so you have wide margins to find another one, 1,200 is just a drop in the bucket there.

Since I was late to the party I'm going to ask that we use one of the previous threads, I don't want to contribute to spam. If I can, I'll lock this one. I can't decide which of the two other threads is the one to post in yet, but they're both on the same topic.
288  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ | Up to 0.0375 BTC/w on: April 23, 2020, 02:09:47 AM
I wish I had applied right at the start, I don't know if I would gotten in then, but now?

There's a lot of people whose reach on the forum far surpasses what little I do here. I'll apply again, in the hopes there will be a glitch in the matrix and I'll get accepted.
289  Economy / Speculation / Is the US Stimulus check going to raise the price for bitcoin? on: April 23, 2020, 01:56:07 AM
Many people need the money desperately, many however have kept their jobs, and will get a double boost of cash from tax returns + Stimulus check.

I think this will have a positive effect on the bitcoin price. Thoughts?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.
290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 26 days to the halving left, what are you expecting? on: April 16, 2020, 12:34:11 AM
No-one knows for sure, but I expect the price to go up.

It's simple really, there is all that stimulus going on due to Covid-19 and then there is less newly minted supply.

We're really not ready for another bull-market but I see no reason why one couldn't just kick off.
291  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Suggest a book... on: April 15, 2020, 05:35:56 PM
I want to read some good books about philosophy, literature, fiction/non fiction,
science fiction, history, religion etc. Therefore I urge learned members of this forum to suggest any one book which they consider top of their list and please give a brief frame of reference about the book in few words, like what should I keep in mind while reading that particular book and any other tips.

Book that I want to suggest is,

The Book of Mirdad: The strange story of a monastery which was once called The Ark

I think this book is pure nectar with beautiful message about life.

A Clockwork Orange

It's not a very easy book to read, because it throws a language that you will not initially understand, however once you get past that it's a page turner. I guess the main point of the book is that a man with free will that is purely evil and violent is better than one who is brainwashed into being good. The evil man has a chance to change and grow but the brainwashed good man has nothing.

It's not a glorification of violence, like what people took away from watching Kubrick's excellent but warped adaptation.

I really am not doing it any justice here.
292  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Senator Bernie Sanders puts away his presidential dreams on: April 11, 2020, 02:42:14 AM
This comes a shocking news Bernie Sanders who is a senator from Vermont has openly declared his presidential dreams cancel
This would strengthen Democrats Joe biden ambition for the Presidential race.

What's your take on Bernie Sanders decision. I feel he stood a chance.

It's really disappointing. I used to support him but now all I can see is a coward. He didn't fight to the bitter end. He didn't get even a little aggressive in his primary against Joe. He was the wrong candidate to get behind.

There is some good that will come out of this. The democrats have sealed their fate, Biden is very very unlikely to win. So, people with bigger ideas can get another chance in 2024, rather than potentially 2032+ if the corporate wing of the democratic party won.

I can't believe how somebody who has won by tiny margins before would abandon a race halfway. Especially when so many people gave so much support.
He's dead to me. I was extremely disappointed when he supported Hillary in 2016 but I gave him another chance, I guess people don't change so easily.

293  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Does Covid-19 comes from Bat or Because of Installation of 5G towers? on: April 06, 2020, 12:53:30 PM
-Illuminate me.

People can happily take lots of radio waves without anything happening to them. Most of the radio-waves won't interact with the human body, some will be absorbed heating it up ever so slightly. It's harmless.

If there were enough radio / micro wave energy in the air that it could hurt you, you could probably notice the effects pretty quickly.

Percy Spenser, the inventor of the microwave was working on radar equipment when he noticed a chocolate bar melted in his pocket. He lived to 76 years old. Average life expectancy for a male at that time was 67, so that's not that bad. Also in the article mentioning his death, there weren't any mentions of cancer, or pneumonia.

I'm going to assume that as someone working on radar and microwaves his whole life, he probably got exposed to a lot of different frequencies and a lot of impoperly shielded prototypes.

Also 5GHZ isn't new in the consumer space. Wireless routers have been using 5GHZ for a long time now as a mode which has less range but higher speeds. So far we haven't seen ill effects from that, nor did we expect to see ill effects.

I still don't get it?
I am pretty sure that Microwaves are different to 5G Towers with 60Ghz Frequency.
but thanks for the information.

Well, if you need more than what I gave you, Thunderf00t just released a video on the subject. He is one of my favorite YouTubers. He has a PhD and has done research that will save lives, offered perspectives that make mainstream scientists look like a bunch of circle-jerking divas.

He has debunked a lot of conspiracy theories before and he just released a video on his main channel on just this topic. It's definitely worth a look.

Hi!
did anybody saw the case of the blockchain project with P2P audio/video calls?
where people pay each other in crypto / tokens?

I don't know about video/audio calls but LBRY does video clips and stuff, maybe one day they'll develop their tech for livestreaming and you could somehow make your livestream private.
295  Other / Off-topic / Re: Coronavirus Deaths so far on: March 31, 2020, 01:11:24 AM
Global deaths are at: around 38,000
That's still a low number of deaths considering 150,000 die every day anyway

USA! USA! USA!

Okay, now that we're number 1 in Active cases, and total cases, give it a few days and we'll be number 1 in new deaths, and maybe a 2-3 weeks after that we'll be number 1 in total deaths.

Our patchwork system of barely enforced curfews and stay at-home orders ensures that this infection will spread all throughout the states, and our health system that is based on greed and brutal efficiency will ensure lack of protective equipment, and ventilators and everything else.
296  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Plead] Phinnaeus Gage's User Moniker Manifested Due to a Malignant Brain Tumor on: March 30, 2020, 12:34:56 AM
It feels like the whole time I've lurked in this forum, you've been around. I always loved that Phineas Gage reference. I'm sending a little something as well.

Is it some crazy coincidence that you picked this name for the forum almost 10 years ago? Do you feel like your personality has changed because of the tumor?
297  Other / Off-topic / Re: Top 3 things you missed during the Corona pandemic on: March 29, 2020, 03:18:28 AM
I miss other beers. Now that we have a corona pandemic I have to drink the mediocre corona beer.

Oh wait, you're talking about the coronavirus. I miss hanging out with my best friend, but I can't have any contact with her because of my work which exposes me to a lot of people.

I also miss the all the parks that closed, and the ability to even go to a theme park if I'd like.

My life is largely unaffected though.
298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold quickly becoming more scarce. Which will be worth more, Bitcoin or Gold? on: March 28, 2020, 01:04:44 PM
Well, clearly gold has a bigger market cap. However, gold won't have the lightning network, and you can't cut 0.2 grams of gold and send it over the internet. And you can't easily make sure that your gold or the gold you're trying to receive is authentic.

Also you can't create copies of your gold stash that are password protected and just a  useless piece of paper to those without the proper passwords.

Bitcoin is infinitely more valuable by weight than gold. So the value density of bitcoin, is higher than gold's ever could be.

One of the advantages of gold was portability, you didn't have to carry a cow, or a lot of silver to trade. With bitcoin, you only need your cellphone which you'd be carrying anyway, in fact you don't really need to carry anything anywhere if you do things right.

By total worth gold's market cap will probably dwarf bitcoin for a few more years still, but I don't expect that to last forever.
299  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: allow on-forum altcoin giveaways for established altcoins on: March 28, 2020, 07:55:36 AM
Here's my solution. Allow everything, but create a special subsection for Altcoin promotional giveaways and here's where the forum benefits. Require every giveaway thread to donate 1 million sats to the forum.

The spam is limited to that board. The forum gets some money. It's win-win.
300  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: March 28, 2020, 07:31:36 AM
What do you guys think will be Joe Biden's response, if any, to the recent sexual assault allegations he's been hit with? - https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/03/will-biden-live-up-to-his-own-principles/

Why is it in the year 2020 every major politician is implicated in the #MeToo movement? If you want to go back to the Kavanaugh hearings where #MeToo was essentially used as an excuse to believe all women and stop a conservative nominee for the Supreme Court, you'll see the movement has been abused to destroy people's careers without any sort of credible evidence. Joe Biden's in the same spot. There's compilations with him being extremely touchy with kids and some young women and he also has an accusation in the past of touching a democratic staffers hair and caressing her. I don't think this derails Biden's campaign enough to make him lose out on the nomination (because there isn't a chance in hell Sanders attacks him on it) but I think people on Trump's campaign are going to have a field day with Biden's touchiness around women. No doubt some super pacs are gonna air the compilations of him grabbing women on camera or bring up this recent accusation against him. As if Biden did not have enough to deal with in regards to attacks against his cognition. I don't think Biden has a clear path to victory if all of this keeps up. He's a risky candidate to choose and I think we're going down the same road in 2016 where Trump will win due to an unpopular candidate with people staying home.

Well, she went to the #MeToo people and they didn't want to help her at all! They are bought out by the establishment like most institutions out there.

We can expect this to be ignored by the media and buried. Trump doesn't have an incentive to go there and visit that subject since he has his own dirty laundry. Although Trump is unpredictable and Biden's potential voters are much more likely to care about that sort of think than Trump's.

Don't expect much to come out of it. When it comes to people the establishment doesn't like, or narratives the establishment wants to go through, we're supposed to believe women, no matter the lack of evidence or potential agenda. When it comes to their anointed candidate, we're supposed to marginalize them. Figures.
