2902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: buying up bytecoin at 0.1BTC per 1000BTE on: April 05, 2013, 05:10:26 PM
im currently paying .27/1000

if that helps anyone have any sort of reference point

like thats not an offer, thats a deal i have already made with someone that i am in the process of filling

Out of interest, how do you do this deal? Say you send him bitcoins, what is to stop him not keeping to his side of the bargain. I know he should have honour etc but this is the internet and I trust no-one  Smiley

I offer fresh air for BTE.
2904  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vircurex AND BTC-E in DDOS? on: April 05, 2013, 04:42:34 PM
Yes, i notice new DDOS protection on BTC-e even just yesterday.

I was on btc-e chat jsut before it went down.  btc-e support had just said that vircurex was HACKED, not DDOS.

Are you sure about that, there was someone spamming btc-e was hacked but I didn't see anyone from support say that  Undecided
2905  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vircurex AND BTC-E in DDOS? on: April 05, 2013, 04:42:02 PM
They need to increase their defense budget. btc-e.com makes hundreds of k profit per month from taking 2% of each side of the trade, so it baffles me how they can't afford to defend against these attacks. Same for mtgox x 10.

I don't think your right about that actually. They are def making money, and BTC-E has put a lot of time and effort into DDOS protection, even MtGox has, but the DDOSers are still at it.

Yeah i know they are def making money, that's whole point of my post. Spend some of those profits on better DDOS protection. Do the math on how much is traded on these exchanges per month, with that much profit I would expect less of these downtimes.

This is one of the first solutions to solving the scalability problem of Bitcoins not being able to handle the possible future of competing with the massive amounts of transactions that card processors and major banks take on daily. Two separate blockchains with identical code. If people continue to trust in Bitcoins, then that should naturally transfer over to Bytecoins.

That is the weakest excuse for a clone I have ever heard. Good thinking though someone obviously sat down for many hours and thought how on earth can I put a spin on these coins so they don't sound as worthless as they are.

With the massive amount of computing power being turned towards the network, and dozens of failed threads of people trying to buy Bytecoins, I'm going to speculate that most people won't part with them for any less than 1K BTE for .5 BTC.

Isn't that 70 cents per Bytecoin? Seems rather steep

...I am selling up a big % of my crypto holdings...

How many bytecoins u r selling? And how many bitcoins u want to get for them?

I'm referring to my other holdings. I don't have any Bytecoins.

If these Bytecoins take off I am selling up a big % of my crypto holdings because it's not a good sign for the future of crypto currencies. Won't be long until we have a new identical clone of Bitcoin popping up every day, with people hoping to mega mine in the first week.
2909  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Terracoin's design flawed? on: April 04, 2013, 10:19:58 PM
Terracoin is going to have an interesting price graph that is for sure.
2910  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: does anybody realize that TRC and PPC are about to go off the charts? on: April 04, 2013, 10:18:33 PM
I think alot of people are going to be disappointed about losing money in PPC if they buy in on the later side of the trend.

with TRC I see it as a sleeping giant.  but I think the developers are dufuses too they can't even spell right, I've been sending messages out like crazy, FIX YOUR STUPID MISTAKES they lose all credibility with bad grammar and mispelled words.  what do they think this is?

predictions- I think both will see a major hype.  but TRC is sleeping right now

once they hit BTC-E they will both multiply rapidly at some point.  but teracoin by nature will be worth more because there aren't 18million terracoins

but then again terracoins developers suck

its really hard to say
Do you realise there is very little to distinguish TRC from Bitcoin? Coins like Litecoin and PPCoin have unique selling points, all TRC had was a faster difficulty retargeting which ultimately got abused so it's now gotten weaked to the point it's nothing worth shouting about. TRC is a pure hype coin and the least unique out of all the common alt coins. Why should people buy it other than the fact you keep shouting about it? I could easily diversify into TRC but can't think of a single convincing reason why.

It's hard enough getting coins like Litecoin and PPCoin accepted by the Bitcoin masses who dismiss them as cheap clones, they will just laugh when they learn about TRC.

Btw I think TRC will go up in value short term because people want the next big thing and are buying it without thinking... it's too similar to Bitcoin to ever be a big winner imo.

People point this out as though it's a problem- you want your coin to make balloon animals or something? The safest bet for alt-coins is to change small things- build on the strength of bitcoin and iterate small changes. Faster block confirmations, faster difficulty, lower block reward, these things. Simple things. Things that won't have totally unforeseen consequences if there is a bug lurking somewhere.

Anyway, looks like I need to dig out my "haters gonna hate" gif again....

Can you name one unique advantage of Terracoin over Bitcoin? Litecoin only makes small changes - uses Scrypt and much faster confirmations, yet these small changes give it's owners obvious advantages to shout about.

I think TRC will go up in value short term. I also think there is a small chance it will have moderate success. But I am struggling to see how it will win over Bitcoiners and see it facing too much resistance... Plus more ASICs get delivered this month.

If I'm wrong though and you and others make a lot of money, good for you guys. Ideally I want everyone to succeed and we all get rich lol.
2911  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PPC] [DISCLOSURE] Stake Generation Vulnerability on: April 04, 2013, 08:59:46 PM
(bump) Please feel free to post the details for the planned fix when ready, given you appreciate any external review.

The protocol upgrade involves replacing the proof-of-stake difficulty as the hash modifier for proof-of-stake (we call it stake modifier). The new stake modifier is 64 bit and derived from about 9 days worth of blocks after the coin generating the stake. When I get some time over next week I would talk a bit more about how it works.

Has any progress been made with this?
The 0.3 upgrade introduced some changes. However, no serious security analysis of the new code has been published yet.

Empirically though it's been 3 months and is standing up well to stress testing. PPCoin is proving itself just like Bitcoin had too...
2912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPCoin is now third only to Litecoin and Bitcoin for market cap! on: April 04, 2013, 07:55:26 PM
Still trying to wrap my head around this;

You have 10,000 people attempting to mine stake blocks.  A has 30,000 coin years, and B has 10,000 coin years, and the rest of the network have less than 10,000 coin years.

B mints a stake block and the rest of the network mints stake blocks on top of B.

Can A fork the chain by declaring a chain in which he mints a stake block in place of B's block?  I would guess you made that forbidden by timestamp, but if A decides he doesn't like a transaction in block B, what's to stop A from announcing a new block and in effect destroying that transaction before the next person adds a block?  Is there anything in place to stop malicious stake mining like that, or is that the "51%" stake attack?

51% stake attack doesn't seem to require 51% of the coins either, since 51% would be based upon the assumption that everyone in the network is holding coins to mine stake blocks.  However, if most coins are being used for actual transactions, the required amount of stake to fork the network is actually only a fraction of 51%.

A problem also may arise when you have 10,000 people all making hundreds of possibly valid chains at the same.  If all these 10,000 people are announcing valid stake blocks at the same time, how do you avoid network congestion because the users are all required to figure out what the most valid chain is (chain with the most coinstakeage)?  Won't you generate hundreds or thousands of orphan chains?

Bear in mind Sunny doesn't get paid money to develop PPCoin he does it all in his spare part time. Just saying this because you are asking Sunny a lot of technical questions all over the forum which I am sure is time consuming for him and he is probably too polite to say this (excuse me Sunny if I mis-speak here)

2914  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how many PPC are there in existence right now? anybody? on: April 04, 2013, 07:04:40 PM
When a coin is launched a ton of new coins get mined in the first few days because the difficulty is absurdly low.

Then the difficulty adjusts as more miners join. This happens with all coins when they launch.. you could have mined thousands of litecoins per day when it launched on a cpu.

No premine with this coin, no sudden announcement people were given plenty of notice and plenty of active development from the developer Sunny.

As of few seconds ago, when Terracoin hitted 100,000 blocks, there are 2,000,030 TRCs generated. Genesis block generated 50 TRCs, not 20 TRCs.

PPCoin is early adopter scam!

Or, you are a TRC shill, and you also lack fundamental understanding of PPCoin. Please stop posting in this thread, you have nothing to contribute to this conversation except for FUD.

There are lots of jealous people in the thread annoyed they missed out on a winner when they were going for 1.5 cents 3 weeks back.
2915  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPCoin is now third only to Litecoin and Bitcoin for market cap! on: April 04, 2013, 06:26:54 PM
This is a misunderstanding. The stake reward does not have its separate output. It's added to the original amount.

Ah, I see.  This was one of my problems with the chain.  So you just modify the amount at the corresponding address to add the new value in?  It was confusing because the wallet reports "+0.00002382012" and I assumed that it was an actual transaction.

If you generate stake coins from a sum of multiple input addresses, are the stake coins generated added amongst all of them?

So you barge in on the thread first reply running down PPCoin when in fact there is not a problem?  Roll Eyes
2916  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how many PPC are there in existence right now? anybody? on: April 04, 2013, 06:00:32 PM
so how is its price going to stay up?  won't those people with 5 million PPC see that the price got high since the last time he checked and sell a boat ton off

There are only 18 million PPCoin. Where are all these people with 5 million PPC? lol

The current rate of production of these coins is less than 6 million a year and can only go downwards if the coin is popular at all.
2917  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how many PPC are there in existence right now? anybody? on: April 04, 2013, 05:54:01 PM
18 million in circulation. It is shown in the 'getinfo' command on commandline (ppcoind)
2918  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / PPCoin is now third only to Litecoin and Bitcoin for market cap! on: April 04, 2013, 05:49:52 PM
PPCoin overtakes Namecoin and moves up to third on the market capitalisation list (see it ranked third on dustcoin.com):

PPCoin is proving to be a real contender with it's innovative ideas and just as importantly, super active developer Sunny! Things will only go up from here when it goes on btc-e.com soon!

All the haters gonna hate now

2919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPC on btc-e.com on: April 04, 2013, 05:22:36 PM
The name is fine, some small children might find it funny, apart from that I don't see a problem.
name has more drawbacks than you may think. The "octet" was invented because "byte" means dick in France. Renaming is easy at this point. Im not really immature, but I would feel weird saying "can I pay with pp?

You must have heard of the Nintendo Wii? The biggest selling console of this generation. Does that name remind you of anything? Did it stop it selling tens of millions of units and being played on by small children?
2920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coin(s) would you like to see on MtGox, besides LTC? on: April 03, 2013, 10:19:51 PM
PPCoin winning the vote... not surprised.

Ok, I just bought 5 BTC worth of PPC @ VirCurEx Smiley

I will bump this in a few months, you will thank me.  Wink
