2341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is anyone still mining CoiledCoin on: May 17, 2013, 07:53:11 PM
I downloaded the client but see 0 active connections...

Looked like this one had some promise until it was killed by a 51% attack
2342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What would be a good server host to run an exchange on? on: May 17, 2013, 06:56:09 PM
Never use VPS to run bitcoin exchange or mining pool. Never. If you do, prepare to cover the losses from attacks from your own pocket. Buy your own hardware, or rent a dedicated server without access through any kind of centralized control panel.

Could you recommend any sites to rent a dedicated server from? They would have to be a big player in the market so I have confidence in them.

Go for any good hosting site but make sure to use some kind of reverse proxy or cloudflare etc.
That gives extra protection to your site.

some suggestions

prq.se
edis.at

Stay away from
santrex
ovh
leaseweb

Thanks for recommending some names but both:

prq.se
edis.at

are non-english and I only speak english unfortunately.
2343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptocoin Mining Information -- find the most profitable coin to mine! on: May 17, 2013, 06:26:25 PM
Add BitBar please. It's been on bter.com for a couple of weeks and it's on coinchoose.com  Smiley
2344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / What would be a good server host to run an exchange on? on: May 17, 2013, 06:24:05 PM
I was looking at Amazon Web Services recently but they are based in the US - maybe not a good idea following what happened with mtgox.

I then looked at Linode as they have a pretty solid reputation, but I am concerned with the security issues they have had (bitcoinica lost all their funds because someone hacked the actual Linode admin panel, and I am still seeing security issues on their news in 2013).

Does anyone have any advice? I have what I think is a novel idea for an exchange and want to try and get a toy hobby project up and running... but I will choose a server with good ram so it handle a surge in traffic.
2345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to PPC? on: May 17, 2013, 11:55:37 AM
PPC price is falling down! From stable 0.0022 highrise to 0.00255, then fallen down to 0.0018.... Why? What is your idea? Lets talk about it! Smiley

This was down to a single dump at 0.0022 which took the price to the 0.0018 range. More dumps then followed.

Now it looks like people have been bailing out.

My take on the situation is that these dumps were due to people getting pissed off at the rampant manipulation that goes on over at BTC-e.

Maybe it was funds taken during the vircurex hack/s.

It wasn't

Not saying you are wrong but how could you possibly know what the hackers are doing with the funds they stole from vircurex?

Blastbob smells clone accounts

Yup me too. I think the smart people can work out who we are talking about.
2348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [WTB] 50 bitbars for 16BTC on: May 16, 2013, 11:37:31 AM
I am buying 50 BitBars for 20BTC, please pm if anyone is interested.
2349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: US Government Begins BitCoin Crackdown on: May 15, 2013, 07:29:37 PM
This is being blown out of proportion.

The only reason this happened is because Mtgox were foolish enough to lie and say they aren't a 'money transmitter' and try to operate without a license.

If they had the appropriate license this wouldn't have happened. A lesson to other exchanges in the future.
2350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who wants free MNC (mincoin) ? on: May 15, 2013, 06:10:49 PM
Well?

Edit: to clarify, I'm not sending free MNC, I just wanted to know how many people want free Mincoin ... mere curiosity, hence the question ...  well I guess many people do!

Wow...

This topic is a record of trades I have done with members on the forum.  Smiley
2352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Alt Coin Bubble on: May 15, 2013, 06:00:32 PM

or PPCoin.

Looks like it is all over.  New coins are being released every hour.  Miners, even zero hour adopters, are getting nothing in exchange for them.

I declare the Alt Coin Bubble over.

Time to switch back to Litecoin or Bitcoin take your pick

this PPC the only other coin apart from BTC that has a good active dev

This recent explosion of coin clones has really underlined what an asset Sunny the PPC developer is to the community and what a strength he is to the PPC project. Even now he is still actively improving and strengthening it.
2353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vircurex DOWN AGAIN. Move to MCXNow? on: May 15, 2013, 05:29:58 PM
Did you consider perhaps mcxnow isn't being targeted because there is virtually no money on the site compared to Vircurex, the second biggest alt coin exchange after btc-e.com
2354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinChoose - alternative site to show respective profitability of the alt coins on: May 15, 2013, 12:42:30 PM
I love  www.coinchoose.com and sal002 is doing a great job.  Just thought I'll make that clear.

+1. I was using coinwarz for a while and then I found coinchoose and I prefer the interface. Added to my favourites.
2355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Want to buy BitBars in large amounts on: May 15, 2013, 06:23:04 AM
I am looking to buy BitBars and will pay above the market rate for large amounts. I have a perfect trading history.

Please pm me to discuss  Smiley
2356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / What is nheight in the source code? on: May 14, 2013, 09:27:48 PM
Tried googling but can't get a quick answer.

Is it the block number? Or something else
2357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTB] Buying BitBars in bulk on: May 14, 2013, 08:49:37 PM
Bump for anymore trades.

Can offer LTC as well as BTC.
2358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] WorldCoin WDC | Coin of the Future | Instant Transactions on: May 14, 2013, 08:31:27 PM
I think this one has some promise. Looking forward to the launch.

- Decent coin name (this is big if the coin is ever going to go anywhere long term... coins like YAC are gonna struggle here)
- Solves a problem with cryptocurrencies with super fast transactions
- Has a professional looking website and a developer who is engaging with the forum and isn't hiding away

Still a lot of things that could go wrong, but so far so good.

Would love to see launch that doesn't end up being a farcical botch job.

everyone said same thing about elacoin?

Yeah that is why I said a lot of things could still go wrong lol.

2360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Please Donate to help Get BITBAR on BTC-E on: May 14, 2013, 07:55:47 PM
Silly topic, there is no need to donate at all.

If the coin succeeds it will succeed without a donation. Be smart, an exchange like btc-e.com takes 1% out of everytrade, they would make tons of bitbars per month from their trading fee... that's why they have 800k litecoin now. So a donation is pointless. Just email the exchanges and let your voices be heard... much more effective.
