Soooooo....  The power adapter brick that comes with it almost melted and caught my house of fire.  I started to smell something weird and I picked up the brick, turned it over and found this:
http://imageshack.com/a/img673/4097/zwk6hu.jpg
http://imageshack.com/a/img910/791/PL0Pm4.jpg

So what did I do?  I cut off the barrel plug, soldered it onto a molex, and plugged it back in...

What crap is BITMAIN releasing these days where stock settings may cause a house fire?!

thats a bit worrying... exact same adapters i got. Very interested if you get any response from them..

I have some of those in the UK and they're cool to the touch fully loaded. Maybe they don't like 120V as much.

You're never going to be able to sue anything, that PSU is ages away from self igniting or igniting something else [as the materials are designed to be], and you'll be chasing some unknown entity in China. You have no damages and you'll be paying 25x anything you could ever get back in fees.

Some of your DOF's on the pictures are really narrow. You can increase this by increasing your fstop [if tripodded], moving further away and decreasing your FOV. That is, assuming you're on a DLSR.
2963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: XBTec Pacific V3 3.2Th, 0.8W/Gh on: January 04, 2015, 12:39:34 PM
Hi everyone! And a happy new year:)

I bought this device and actually iam not really satisfied with its work.
The problem is that it's hash rate on controller be and pool differs very much.
This way iam loosing up to 30% of hash rate.
For example be speed first week - 3-3,2th, pool speed 2,7-2,9.
And last two days the device productivity dropped to 1,7-1,9 th - pool speed,
Be - Device speed 2,4-2,6.
All boards work and chips have no power downs.
Environment is good temperature (about 15 Celsius degrees) and power is enough.
What can be the solution for my problem?
Thanks for your help

What pool are you on?
Hi!

Iam on btcguild.

Contacted manufacturer representative in Russia

Can you provide a screenshot of the stats page and on pool please?

I understand everyone is very eager to say how stupid solo is.. I don't care, I am mostly using it to be involved / gambling and for heat...

One workaround in the meantime is to use a solo 'pool' like ckolivas's.

In any case, last I checked it seemed like the problem was due to the pool, so your advice to open up the the rig may be, to put it politely, another wild goose chase, aka useless afterall! (EDIT: Or should I have said, if you're not sure then let someone else help.)

Pool shows alive, a difficulty set and 1000s of discarded shares. He's connected to the pool.

Is this the correct link to order S5's from Amazon via Bitmain ?

http://www.amazon.com/AntMiner-S5-~1155Gh-0-51W-Bitcoin/dp/B00RBV2OE6

Notice there is a $100 premium purchasing via Amazon ? Looking to acquire another unit to test extreme underclocking and getting an S5 running quiet enough to run in a bedroom.

Wow, those resellers are lighting quick when it comes to stealing my pictures. That was... 2 days this time? I don't see the Bitmain listing any more, it may have been a test or will resume later.
I thought Amazon automatically groups listings together and uses the same pictures. So if Bitmain or anyone used your pictures Amazon would still have the pictures up.

Why not just put a copyright / watermark on your pictures after you take them. Embed it in the picture.

Bitmain used their own pictures in the initial listing, or had no pictures - I can't remember but mine didn't even exist then. Images are inherently copyrighted unless stated otherwise [granting an open license]. In the only two places they're published, both state that my images are copyrighted. I'm still fighting not water marking stuff because then it ruins them for the other 98% of law abiding citizens.
2967  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer U3 Setup [HD] on: January 03, 2015, 09:30:12 PM
I think the only other thing to try would have been something like a long nylon cleaning brush from an electric razor dipped in alcohol. Still tricky though.

[Slight necro, was accumulating U3 feedback from all the threads]. That's a good point, I'll find some micro brushes to buy. Can douse them in articlean and work out the paste.
2968  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer C1 Setup [HD] on: January 03, 2015, 09:28:26 PM
But isnt that a waste of a hashing board power plug Smiley seems kind of silly to plug it into the hashing board power port then only have one power feed to that board seriously whos the genious at syscool that thought that one up.. Smiley

Previously you had to open up the case which was annoying as hell.

I pigged tailed mine in but seen another picture on another board here a guy plugging it into the periph port on the psu so when i get a few minutes today thats the route I am going to take rather than having it pigtailed into the pcie cable Smiley Thats 15 more watts that board can have.. That the pump draws.

Pump and fans are about 30W. Be careful about the wiring when plugging directly into the PSU as the pins may not be the same as PCI-E. Its worth looking up your PSU's manual.

if i put it right in the window it vent outside however the s3's exhaust blow into it and cause the temps to rise on the C1. Ugh need a bigger window haha. Gots to say all in all I think i would of been happier with the S5 for $100 more, the liquid cooling is a pain and when you figure in the fluid cost, if changed annually, well not sure I am real big on this liquid cooling.

I doubt you'll still be running a C1 after a year. You might be able to play around with the stands to get the radiator to stand up on one end. Preferably you'd want the tubes at the top, but more practically you're going to get them at the bottom.

Now the S5 looks nice sounds awesome but I give it a big thumbs down for the case design.Really it has no top!!! how long before my 4 yr old drops a hot wheels in there and shorts it out hahaha. Dust accumulation etc. They could atleast throw a mesh screen on it. Naturally i will be ordering a couple and will probably put a mesh on top. Not really digging the single fan either or the single heatsinks seems like they are cutting corners a bit to make more profit.

Yup, S5s are not as kid friendly as S3s. The main driver is weight, shipping less metal around the world means lower delivery prices.

Keep up the great work Dogie I always come to your guides when i get new hardware. They should hire you to write there manuals, and why cant they spend $.20 and print one out and ship it haha antminer irks me about that. I guess that .20 x 1 millon units ads up I get it all in the name of profits, but come on what happend to quality concerns customer service and such. I know I know China haha.

Thanks. I do rewrite the manuals into English but I don't have much control as to their content. Yeah that's a hell of a lot of paper, although for something like the S5 it should be plug and play. PSU in, ethernet in, find IP.
2969  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread 0.26$/G Free Ocean Shipping on: January 03, 2015, 09:17:28 PM
i have s3 miner which is connected to internet and i am able to access through default IP 192.168.1.99 but its not hashing..i have correct pool and the pool is connected..but in miner status page its not hashing its shows as zero...

i have tried to reset the machine but its same .Attached is the screenshot.
<snip> img </snip>

Go to Network tab then click edit on your connection then switch the protocol to DHCP and Save & Apply.
You'll get a new IP address, so it will not be on 192.168.1.99 anymore, but will begin hashing straight away.

Guys, if you're not sure then let someone else help. You can see from his status image that he IS connected to the pool and he IS receiving work packets but they're being discarded. Why? Because the system thinks he has no hashing boards, as you can see from the missing boards from the bottom of the screen.

Open up the case and check both the ribbon cables are connected to the controller. I'd be really surprised if they weren't but might as well check. Next step is telling me what PSU you are running?

Has anyone bought from Bitmaintech before from the UK. I know you will have to pay VAT 20% on any bitcoin mining equipment but I don't know how to go about doing this?
I really want to buy an S5!  Undecided

You purchase like normal. At some point during delivery, UPS or DHL will tell you there's some VAT to pay. DHL you can pay online in advance (they'll text you), UPS you can pay cash on delivery or call up to pay on the day.

What i did try last night was to get my other R-Pi to run them but it doesnt recognize them. The R-Pi i have is running minepeon. Then i decided it probably was better that i didnt try it that way. I dont know any of the (bin bash) setup codes or anything like that so i was concerned about ruining it. There doesnt seem to be much out there on these devices. It seems to all boil down to not seeing it on the network. (nic shows solid green intermittent flashing orange) (when running on everything that came with it). I could try to run cgminer on my desktop but again i dont know how to configure it.

Create a .bat file with notepad (just save it as .bat) and put it in the same directory as a recent copy of cgminer.

Code:
cgminer -o eu-stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -u user_worker -p 123 --hfa-fail-drop 0 --hfa-fan 100 --hfa-temp-overheat 110 --hfa-temp-target 0 --hfa-hash-clock 700

pause

I like leaving the pause in, it means if you put an incorrect string in it will stop and show you the error rather than instantly closing. Your clock speed on the T-110S might be 650, I'm not sure.

thank you again

im trying this adress to get an answer out of them Smiley

do you generally have some experiences with the AMV1 ?

Not past what is described i this thread.
2977  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 03, 2015, 11:45:34 AM
I'm new to mining here.. but recently pick up 25 UNIT of AntMiner C1.. I was having major temperature issue due to where i live so i have modified a different way of keeping the system cool without the x3 fan and radiator by using a cooling freeze method.. had to rip up a old fridge and did a little DYI cooling tank..

I tested on 5 AntMiner C1 at the moment..

http://postimg.org/image/k0igp7pkf/

Currently keeping it at 30-35 temperature as you see the image below...

http://postimg.org/image/pnylrndlt/

I can go lower than that.. but i'm not sure if it will be too cold for the AntMiner C1.. and i have little understanding of how this BitCoin Mining works.. I tried asked a good friend of mine but i guess he became selfish. I read some where the lower the temperature i can get the better the mining? In speed or more bitcoins? which i'm still lost what i should see to know i'm doing better.

If anyone could share a link to better understanding how this bitcoin thing run i might be able to improve a better system.

There is no particular advantage to going cooler than that, or even 40-45C. Chips might run slightly more efficient (you can test that yourself with a killawat) but then it depends how much additional power you're spending on the cooling side. Hash rate is unlikely to change noticeably.
2978  Other / Meta / Re: Why Simple Machines forum & not anything else ?. on: January 03, 2015, 11:43:32 AM
The forum got compromised even through avatars. I don't know how wise it will be to leave it exposed, the incentive to attack this is very high.
Does anyone have a link to the main thread where this 2013 security breach was discussed? I'd be interested in
what exactly happened back then.
It's not "just" for this forum, it could be a competitor to all the other forums. If they do it right, it could be quite a boon for bitcoin.
That's true. Will epochtalk be available for free? I guess not, given the >350k dev costs. So one should price licenses competitively and sell only for bitcoins..

Not found the thread but found a video of apparently what the hack did:

2979  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 03, 2015, 11:37:50 AM
One of my S4s just suddenly stopped working.  One moment it was working, the next it stopped responding to API requests.  When I checked it, it was still running, and the LCD indicated it had dropped to 0 GH/s.

I powered it off, waited 10 seconds, and powered it back on.  Everything starts up, fans running at full speed, but it doesn't actually start.  Fans run continuously at full speed and the LCD stays blank.

I've only had it about 2 weeks.

Any suggestions about how to fix it?

Thanks.

M
After you reseat the SD card, you might want to check your internet connection and your miner advance setting on the configuration tab. It take little time when you reboot before miner starts to work.

I have two S4s, I know how long it takes them to "start up".  This one never starts up.

I'll try reseating it, and if that's doesn't do it, I'll try swapping the SD card from the other one.

Thanks!

M

As others have said, start by reseating the SD card, then reflashing it [or testing your other one]. S4s boot up in about 60 seconds, but you should hear the fans doing various things (other than stuck on 100%) during that time and the LCD will start showing various things.
2980  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 03, 2015, 11:35:59 AM
i just got my c1 today with included water cooling, i used some blood red chillblast with A little water as the large bottle was not enough. what i am concerned with is it keeps turning off as to high temperatures 80 degrees + when it says it should only be hitting like 50. when i touch the radiator, psu, and c1 exteriors they are definitely not warm to the touch in any way. ANy help would be appreciated!

Total loop should have taken up about 700-800ml. Those temperatures aren't right at all, sounds like your pump isn't running. How and where is it plugged into?
