1961  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ANN] HashCoins - Cryptocurrency Mining Hardware Manufacturer on: March 22, 2015, 12:54:06 AM
I think they are part legit.  They had 2 different miners ship?

That's what I've been basing my opinions on. Both the Apollo and Ares met expectations. I'm yet to see any evidence for or against the Zeus, nor any aggrieved customers (which is the most important thing). Maybe they never existed, maybe they are misleading, but what can we do without evidence...

Dogie, I know you want to keep dismissing that this could be a bug in the firmware so would you go on a deal with me here? I'll pull my fan connector off while it is hashing to see if the miner stops operating and protects itself when it hits 80c. I'll perform this if you promise me a new S5 if I burn my rig up? Smiley

I'm not dismissing anything, I'm hypothesising while BW has units in hand and is testing. My unit needs a fresh controller otherwise I'd test mine to destruction.

Whatever you do to your own unit you do at your own risk.
1963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide [27th Feb] on: March 21, 2015, 09:46:08 PM
Are there any trusted manufacturers who are launching next gen miners within the next 6 months?

Nothing confirmed from anyone, and as history as shown we should wait until hardware appears before passing judgement either way.
1964  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: March 21, 2015, 09:12:58 PM
Thank you again for the tip @dogie do you believe that if i connect them direct to the psu it will work full?Of Course the 120 more rpm is not that big deal.. and if it will help or be greater for the miner also( if it is connected direct to psu) i just asking from curiosity? As you are more experience with mining do you think that the temp are too high because many may read this post and think to change it also.

 Smiley

Kind Regards,
BTC-Bank.

Yes no problem with connecting direct to the PSU is no problem, won't really change anything. Temps are fine, don't worry.
1965  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: March 21, 2015, 06:46:31 PM
Ok just to give an update i didn't bought a cable to connect it direct to psu yet but i bought as i our friend here @Dogie suggest another corsair sp120 high performance which are four pin and i have already plug them direct on the s5 for the last 24 hours, the loud results are amazing!!!! It sounds like my computer nothing more and now i can have it in my room. The rpm for these two is fan 1: 2040 and fan 2: 2160 (i dont know exactly why they run different as they both are the same) i have underclock it at 312.5M, the GH/S are around 1100 to 1200 , the temp is mostly stable at 69 and 70 it make some up and downs between 68 to 71 but i am very pleased with the sound if i make any other changes i will let you know.  Cool

Thank you @Dogie.

Kind Regards,
BTC-Bank.

No problem. I think its hard coded into the firmware to have the front fan lower as it was the same on S3s.
1966  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 21, 2015, 05:16:43 PM
Remember, they weren't mining or even connected to the pool at this point. The temps just started rising past 80c without shutting down. The firmware seems not to shut the rig down when it is over 80c. That really needs to be fixed.

Well that goes against everything I've tested, pulled the ethernet and nothing exciting happens. And I've previously tested the 80C limit, it 'freezes' and stops mining.

I agree - it doesn't make sense.  My S3's properly honored that 80C safety shutoff.  But on my pair of S5's, it does not shutoff over 80C.  BTW, the miners really do heat up and it's not just an errant report from the firmware.

A few weeks ago when Ghash went down, my Nicehash limit for return value wasn't met and so it stopped hashing (no rollover) and I did catch this screenshot.

There is a conflict in that screenshot, a fan speed of 3600 RPM yet a high temp. At this point I'm leaning towards it reporting silly temperatures rather than reaching silly temperatures. On a 200W load, even with a 1000 RPM fan it should still be okay. Heatsink temps of 75C over heatsink temps of 50C provides DOUBLE the heat removal in a 25C ambient.

Ah!  I think you have landed on an issue.  Thank you.

The physical truth is, at the time of the screenshot, the fan was not at a high rpm (judging from startup/reboot speeds it was in the 300 to 500 rpm range); and the heat sink fins were too hot to keep my fingers on.  I believe the heat reported, but not the fan speed.

But that still makes me wonder why the 80c safety didn't kick in.  This also happened about 3-4 weeks before this screenshot.  That time it reported 106C, but I didn't grab a screenshot, I was freaked out by the high temp and hurried to power down and move air over them with a box fan.

So the bits of information we have:

a) Status reported high temps
b) Heatsinks were too hot to keep fingers on are ~55C for aluminium, which puts chip temps not much higher.

c) Status reported high fan
d) Fan was low in reality

e) Status did not respond to these 'high' temps
f) Status previously showed 110C, but S5 still works.

From the very last one alone we could conclude that its a display / calculation issue, and the chips aren't reaching the temperature its displaying and / or the measurement isn't even what its displaying. If that type of temp sensor was 110C, the chips would have been way past the "melt into goop" region.
1967  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Tube Setup [HD] on: March 21, 2015, 04:20:33 PM
Well
stratum-lb-usa48.btcguild.com - this one was working now not working
I try stratum.bitcoin.czagain and everything is working OK again.
Thank you hedgy73! Grin

How come this is the only one that work?
Are there any more pools that work?

BTCGuild, GHash and BAN are the main three.

Your controller will restart every ~3 minutes when its not connected to a pool, that's standard.
1968  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Tube Setup [HD] on: March 21, 2015, 04:19:44 PM
Does anyone have a tube just sitting around gathering dust? I'm interested in getting one more hash board from a tube. Currently have 2 tubes but only 7 hash boards (sent one for rma, but that process is completely stalled). I'm not willing to pay much, but maybe we can work something out and I can help de-clutter your house. Please pm me if interested.

I've got a fully operating Tube if that helps, would be sold though.

If you'll sell me the tube for .3 BTC shipped its a deal.

Thats 20% the $/GH of an S5, doesn't really make sense to sell.
1969  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: March 21, 2015, 04:16:53 PM

My personal recommendation is 2x S3 fans if you've got them lying around or my go to is the SP120 Performance editions /994pId][Without affiliate] /aTtqhF][With affiliate]. There are also PWM versions if you think you'll need it in the future /464xEn][Without affiliate] /ULI5ny][With affiliate]. They're right at the barrier between high performance and not being too annoying and I generally use them on most miners I silence.

Fans like the SP120 will plug directly into an S5 and aren't silent but aren't horrific. They're ~2200 rpm with a high static pressure which is required in a situation like this more than just straight 'CFM' ratings. You don't tend to get LEDs on fans like this and above as they usually all go into servers and such like. There is a similar AF120 series which is LED, but isn't suitable for S5s as they're not powerful enough.

If I may ask a follow up question. How would the Scythe Grand Flex PWM compare to the SP120's? On paper they spin up to the same RPM, similar dBA, but the CFM and Static pressure is much higher on the Grand Flex model. Has anyone tried this on the S5?

I'm still waiting for my s5, but I am trying to get my research done now because noise will be an issue. I have 8 of the Grand Flex fans in the box and it would be nice knowing I don't have to purchase new fans. My goal will be to get the S5 as close to S3 noise levels as possible without sacrificing much cooling.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, they're claiming all 3 statistics are better with no tradeoff, at the same RPM. Still, if it works it works.
1970  Other / Meta / Re: A place to dispute and settle cases about various matters on: March 21, 2015, 03:38:50 AM
I think there is a case for a subforum which is like reverse scam accusations. If people are accused with things, they can create a place for the accusers to present any evidence they have. If they can't or it turns out to be obviously bogus, then the accused can be vindicated. At the moment it seems weird for a user to open a scam accusation against themselves.
1971  Other / Meta / Re: Would you like to see ChangeTip working here and in forums generally? on: March 21, 2015, 02:02:53 AM
Really don't see the point when you can already tip members with their profile's btc address (assuming they've got one).

Not against it either, good if there was an option to hide Changetip if implemented. At the very least it would give people a choice.

I think the problem is that some people want an user-friendly system, like changetip (this is the unique reason valid).

What is un-user friendly about copy/pasting someone's BTC address into your wallet and sending them a tip?

I think ChangeTip is great for Twitter and the like, but totally unnecessary here.

The part in bold is what I'm meaning when I said "not user friendly". Not for me, but only for a lot of people that "want" an immediate and responsive software (I hope you understand).

ChangeTip is more than just tipping as well, its a public show of support. "I like what you're doing, here is a token amount of btc, I hope others do the same".

Does anyone want to try to get a group together to sit in the public court room for that day? I believe as a Victim of BFL we have a right to be in the room. I was thinking about taking a week off just to sit in the court, and laugh about the things that happen in that court room.

You're still THAT butthurt?  BFL was so 2013, move on.

Yes Josh, I am still hurt over your lies, and poor business ethics, I was evicted, and lived on the streets for 3 months. If i had access to the money BFL was using a capital to invent vapor ware, I'd at least of had a pot to shit in...

Damn, account registered Dec 14 but first post today.

I am also the same problem .
payment in full , but still " marked expired ". Bitmain not fix this problem.

Orders don't need to be marked as paid to be accepted, that's an automated system. If bitmain is emailing you saying your order is fine, its fine.

I'm wondering how high that temperature could of went to.

80c. What fans you running?

All stock. And I just read other's are having the same problem. Temps over 80c and keep climbing. Not good. If I wasn't home I'd have two toasters.

OK, My C1 is acting up again. I turned it off and moved it into another room (I use these things as space heaters) and when I reconnected everything it won't hash. Reset it by holding in the button for about 30 seconds, I like to make sure it is reset, got into the web interface, entered in pool settings and everything, and now in the Miner status it doesn't show anything! I don't know how to upload pictures here unfortunately, but as far as I can tell the unit is fine, just isn't showing any ASIC status or hashing power.

Upload to imgur, then put the image's URL in between the below tags.

Dogie, I read your setup page of the S5 and this is a quote from that setup guide:

"What temperatures should I aim for?   - Try and achieve <50 for best hash rates, and <60 for long lifetimes. Temperatures should not
be let to rise above 80C."

This confuses me. Even the stock fan at pretty low ambient temps can't keep the S5 less than 50c.  How would one even obtain <50c? Then I saw in another post you wrote that running the S5 24/7 at 65c is just fine and would be no problem. Can we get a confirmation from BitmainWarranty on the optimal running temps of the S5? There must be three temp sensors onboard, since CryptoGlance reports three different temp readings. I just want to make sure we all know the operating range of temps of this unit when so many have been reported.

Thanks!

The 50C is really more of a "if you can get to here, great", but I accept that its unrealistic for 90% of people. You get <50 by adding an S3 fan on the end. The optimal running temp is simply anything less than too hot, which is 75-80C. Add in a safety factor (on top of the 80C's one) and you hit 65-70.
1979  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: March 19, 2015, 03:42:43 PM
With the open top/bottom design is it better to put these on a bakers rack style open air shelf, or a solid shelf to allow some air-pattern-control?

My miners are on a solid steel work cart so wondering if they will do well on the steel, or if I should get a riser with open slats?

I've always used open shelves, but then again I have a mishmash of different gear. You can get the effect of a solid shelf by taping up the top and bottom of the heatsink, but thats only 2C or so on the stock fan.

Interesting.  I went to buy an S5.  Delayed a bit and had to try again.  Price went up in terms of Bitcoins as the value was dropping.  So, I quickly sent the increased BTC amount from Coinbase and it shows completed.  But, on the Bitmain website the purchase shows expired!

The order shows created at 2015-03-18 17:55:10.0 on Bitmain.  Coinbase shows completed at March 18, 2015 13:57 EDT.

I believe I made the purchase within a couple of minutes of observing the increased price.

And I've already bought the power supplies.

Anyone had any experience getting a btc refund from Bitmain?  These aren't shipping until March 30 and I expect Bitcoin to take a spring rise - on the other hand buying now and knowing the sale when thru would allow timely preparation.

Don't worry, the site's status isn't updating properly, even when your order is fine. Everything is normal, nothing to worry about.
