2301  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 17, 2015, 07:16:35 AM
Have had two S5 running flawlessly for three weeks and today experienced an issue (batch four, OE file system, CGminer 4.9.0, 306.25 MHz clock).  One of the two appeared to have frozen.  Perhaps half a day elapsed while both controller and Hash appeared stuck.  Discovered the problem by observing lower than expected Hash on Eligius and traced it back to the specific S5 by addressing it, whereupon it displayed the miner status page (without my logging in or selecting it), but was unresponsive to GUI selections.  I shut down the PSU for sixty seconds, fired it up again, and back to normal.  It now once again appears fine.
Noticed today my Westhash account was down ~2TH/s.  Did a visual on the miners and all appeared fine.  Tried addressing the two S5s and neither responded.  Power cycled both, checked their status (as well as the S3s), and all was back to normal.  The temps are 42/44, 46/46 and neither has been o/c'd (at least, not since Bitmain shipped them.)  The power supplies are CX750M with all four PCI-E connectors populated, the file system is the Jan 7 version, CGminer is 4.9.0, and the clock is 306.25MHz.

PS. Took a look around and it appears Batch 4 is sold out and I see no mention yet of a Batch 5.

Mine are doing the same every so often. Cant access the interface and need a restart to get them going again. Happens every so often weird stuff any ideas. Thanks

Both on the latest firmware? I've not seen this yet.

+1. To be honest, I like to see trust ratings in all boards. It is always helpful/useful.

Same. I'm unsure as to the reasoning of why this isn't the case currently.
2303  Other / Meta / Re: Why Bitcointalk don't use Google Adsense ? on: February 17, 2015, 07:06:06 AM
Being an ex Googler, this is something I'd asked Theymos before. This was his PM response, which I don't believe is privileged information or intentions he hasn't stated elsewhere:

I don't want to insert foreign JavaScript into the forum. That seems potentially dangerous. Also, using external ad services gives them some influence over forum policy because they can drop us. (AdSense would probably be especially likely to complain to the forum about various things posted here, I expect.)

Income could be significantly increased in many ways. For example, more ads could be added, or cheaper premium memberships (like VIP) could be sold. But the main goal of the forum is to be a good forum, not to make boatloads of money, and I don't see the need to strive for increased revenue at this time.

Oh Alright I see . I didn't knew that Ads could be used for Exploits and gets the forum hacked or something .
Also glad to know that it's not all about the "money" Grin thanks mate

~ Madness

Anything served with adsense is extremely unlikely to be exploitable, but its his general policy to not have any foreign js as that's how bad things start.

2306  Other / Meta / Where should I put my meta thread? on: February 16, 2015, 08:12:29 AM
Hi guys.

I make hardware setup guides and tldr I need a meta thread to discuss style changes, general feedback and beta changes etc. I'm unsure where this would be best suited, as although its not hardware related, its about hardware related threads. But its also not meta as its not about the forums....
2307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: February 15, 2015, 08:44:33 AM

i have 2X Corsair 450W psu.

for model please visit this link : http://www.corsair.com/en-in/vs-seriestm-vs450-450-watt-power-supply

Was it just one connector or one set of connectors that was too hot? If you're running 2x PSUs per S3 then there is no reason it should be getting hot at all.
2308  Other / Meta / Re: Content leeching websites on: February 15, 2015, 06:11:53 AM
I DMCA-noticed one of those sites and got them to remove my post ripped from bitcointalk. I was hoping they wouldn't respond so then I could send the takedown to their ISP.

Everything I write and submit here is copyright ME and I have provided bitcointalk exclusive license to its contents.

I'd like to see you DMCA: Google (cache), archive.today, archive.org, and countless other services.

It's the internet once it's posted it's out there for good, no going back.

He would be free to do the above, if he so wanted. A DMCA isn't a "fuck you I hate you go away", its a "remember that that is mine, and I am removing your access to it".

IMHO it's better as we can look for deleted posts in leeching sites without disturbing admins.

No we can't, most of the mirror sites continually update as they're clones. Only bitcointa.lk worked in the way you described, and that's been broken for 8+ months.
2309  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Prisma Setup [HD] on: February 15, 2015, 06:10:17 AM
Minera will pick up Prisma2; but no hash rate. However, current shares seem to accumulate.

One other thing. If I connect Prisma2 to only the BE Controller; all boards will register (shows 8 boards total)
It even shows them as mining at about 1500 Gh/s; which is what leads me to believe that this is some kind of configuration error.

I'm unsure why this would happen, or what Minera is trying to do in the background. The simplest solution is to pick up another BE controller from ebay, they're pretty cheap. Then run Prisma2 off it @ 240MHz as if its being temperamental, lets just give it what it wants.

I think Bitmain is getting ready for Chinese New Year. So no Sales right now - Make sense - Also says it on there web site Closed for Chinese New Year

Yup. Its easier than making a really delayed shipment batch, not everyone sees the notices.

@Dogie @BitmainWarranty - Happy New Years Guys  Grin

also, anyone tried Push&Pull with stock S5 fans on S5 to see any favorable result in reducing heat or noise?

I tried it, just makes 2x the noise and not a lot of additional cooling Tongue The best configuraiton is 2x stock S3 fans as they're just the right strength to get the job done while not simultaneously sucking your face off.

That's funnily because i did that my temps dropped to the 40s push pulling two stack S5 fans but the noise if you want I'll put then back on and screen shot it i figured how to on the forums i think that was OC to 393 or close it held at 47 or so with those fan the noise was to much for me .

To me it didn't increase cooling sufficient to justify the extra 15W and noise levels though. It doesn't make sense over 1x S5 fan unless you're running in literally 50C.
2312  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 14, 2015, 10:50:54 PM
I have tried cgminer with this string:

cgminer.exe -o stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -u dogie_U3 -p 123

result: No devices detected!

Same problem with the new U3 i got.

No one of my two purchased U3 was sealed originaly with the round adhesive dot. I can see remains of this Dot ( adhesive on the first Box and a half Dot on the second Box).
To seal the box for the new buyer they have used a narrow adhesive tape.
So i'm not the only one with this U3 problem.
Probably the U3 i've got from Amazon.de have done at least two rounds (Amazon > purchaser > Amazon > purchaser > now from me back to Amazon).

General problem with the U3 or just my problem becaue got no originaly sealed unit?

Its a hard one as it could be the unit or it could be generic environment problems that don't makse sense. And you won't really know this unless you repeat the procedure on another PC. Either way though, if you've purchased from a reseller then send it back.

2314  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best Hardware to buy right now? on: February 14, 2015, 10:48:12 PM
IMO its hands-down the SP31. The Sp35 ran at extreme speeds where it fought to squeeze the last 200-300GH at a cost of about 1GH/w.

the Sp31 is a better balance, and can operate at about 3600GH/1900W (wall) in efficiency mode or ramp to about 4750GH/3000W (wall). The volume at <4000GH is reasonable for use in a smaller building, but oing past 4000GH gets noisy enough that a shed or datacenter is suggested

Check out the used market - new the SP31 is $2075, but used you can get them for $1700-1850  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=951608.0

I still prefer the SP35, even if you run it at SP31 speeds. Those improved PSUs pay for the increased costs themselves.

What is that meant to be?
2316  Other / Meta / Re: Please add a button to view the next page In a topic. on: February 14, 2015, 06:21:37 AM
I browse the forum with my phone and tablet often. Whenever I'm trying to view page 5/20(example) I keep tapping page 6/7. I do have the Android application,but I greatly prefer viewing it in my browser instead. So what I was thinking;
4 buttons should be added,  a "first page", "previous page", "next page" and a "last page".

Please take it into consideration.
Thanks

Oh god yes, its incredibly hard to click on the right page on a phone. I have to zoom in to silly levels to be able to get the right page.

2318  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Recommendations for 1300W and 1000W PSUs on: February 14, 2015, 05:54:37 AM
Is it cool to run 2x SP20's on the 1300W power supply when underclocked?

I'm hoping to run 2 off the 1300W PSU and maximize the hashrate for the remaining unit within the other 1000W PSU.

You've got a rather annoying combination which is tight whichever way you arrange things, but yeah that should be doable with 600W pre PSU per SP20.
2319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Sp20 - New to mining on: February 14, 2015, 02:16:01 AM
May I suggest you remove the PSU boxes from there. While its extremely unlikely anything would ever happen, its not worth keeping essentially kindling near to hot surfaces. CX750Ms can get rather hot when 100% loaded, and while they'd never ever get hot enough at normal ambients to ignite something, they can also fail in weird ways. And in that 1/100,000 chance scenario, we want the PSU to destroy itself and turn off in peace.
2320  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 13, 2015, 09:40:52 PM
Yeah, that's why I added the caveat that speeds might have to be slowed down quite a bit. It would be interesting to see how much, but based on cooling S1s with similar specced fans I would guess you'd probably be ok running at 600-800GH/s in a 20-25C room.

Lucky people mining at 20C Sad The heat removal of 20C air is nearly double that of 40C air for a 60C heatsink, no fair.

Also, nice on providing links with and without the affiliate and making it apparent that the one is an affiliate link.

Its a question I posted in my survey, with surprisingly indifferent results so far. When asked "If it was made clearer that links may contain affiliate tags (Amazon etc), would you be more or less likely to view / purchase through them?", 25% answered "Much more likely (to support)" and the other 75% "No change".
