2121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 high error rate at stock speed on: March 05, 2015, 07:09:39 PM
I'm using an EVGA SuperNova 750W G2 so I don't think it's the psu.
I'm at 0.0133%/0.0138% error rate currently with 49C/51C temperatures.

0.013% is very low error rate. (granted, its higher than the 0.0008-0.003% usually seen in the S5)

as suggested by phillipma, if the error rate doesnt increase over time theres really no concern. 0.013% is pretty insignificant, its a difference of pennies/month at the most

What's the latency to the pool? Ping comes back high 100's may want to switch.

Latency won't have an impact on hardware errors, but will do so on stale shares.

I am using GPRS mobile connection with 300-800ms delays without any trouble. Almost no stale shares. Using high diff to keep GPRS 32kbits connection alive.

Sounds about right. When one of my laptops drops off the internet, I can submit shares quite a bit later and still come through as valid.
2122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S4 Setup [HD] on: March 05, 2015, 07:08:55 PM
So did anyone find good replacement fans to make it quieter if your going to underclock or just run at stock? I am looking to make these as quiet as possible when I get them and any information would be truly appreciated.

2x SP120s on the front is the best you're going to do, there isn't enough headroom with a 30C ambient.
2123  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Tube Setup [HD] on: March 05, 2015, 07:08:17 PM
Does anyone have a tube just sitting around gathering dust? I'm interested in getting one more hash board from a tube. Currently have 2 tubes but only 7 hash boards (sent one for rma, but that process is completely stalled). I'm not willing to pay much, but maybe we can work something out and I can help de-clutter your house. Please pm me if interested.

I've got a fully operating Tube if that helps, would be sold though.
2124  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MegaBigPower Opens Buyback for Unprofitable Bitcoin Miners on: March 05, 2015, 03:08:25 PM
I bet the buy for $ per pound and get the scrap. They won't be plugging in anything. Seriously when / if BTC goes 1000$ again where are you going to get miners?

Making sure there is nothing left on the market is a good way to make sure there is less competition. Given that there will be few miners out there then they could also sell off their own older generation miners to consumers as they phase in new generation Bitfury.

So you will be left with few if any cheap options. You have to get either cloud-mining  or used equipment from their farms potentially.

At $1000 - everywhere. It becomes extremely profitable to produce again and you'll see all sorts of companies pop up producing OEM style machines.
2125  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 05, 2015, 03:58:20 AM
I had another S5 loose a blade on Sunday (2nd one that has failed in the 30 days I've had them). I tried using a different power supply and also moving the cables to the other port on the controller but it's still going all xxx's. I'm not overclocking, just running stock settings. I emailed Bitmain support but only got one response asking what kind of power supply I was using. I responded back (EVGA 750G & Corsair HX850) but heard  nothing further from them. Bitmain, can you send me an RMA number and I'll ship this back to Colorado?

Hi, we are in the same boat. 1 of my s5 blade dead in a month and promised to give shipping label to ship back. But its already 3 weeks since the promised and I never heard back from them again. I send couple email but no reply at all. BITMAIN if you read this please prosess our RMA. I Have been loyal customer since antminer S1.  Thank You

I had another one fail a few weeks ago and Bitmain Support was much more responsive then. I don't mind paying the shipping to Denver, just don't want to ship it back without an RMA number or confirmation that they will send me a replacement.

By which method did you each contact?

Email to info@bitmaintech.com and pm to BitmainWarranty on here.

Thanks. I'll give the teams responsible a poke.
2126  Other / New forum software / [Request] 'Spoiler' collapseable boxes on: March 05, 2015, 01:18:26 AM
Hello all,

Was wondering if I could add spoilers to the list of requested features. They're used on lots of other forums and have the appearance of a quote box which starts collapsed. When someone clicks on the title bar of the box it then expands the contents.

Useful for many things.
2127  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MegaBigPower Opens Buyback for Unprofitable Bitcoin Miners on: March 05, 2015, 12:53:53 AM
Will be interesting to see what prices are.

I'm expecting garbage to be honest. There is a lot more labour babysitting a mishmash of elderly gear which is going to have to be paid somehow.

Not the most complete description but I take it there is an inflow and outflow pipe pair to the tank moving the Novec to an external radiator to exhaust heat and a second inflow and outflow pair to the condenser also to an external radiator?  Ah, found it.  One gallon offered for sale @ $379.95.

This is off topic but the Novec fluid doesn't get pumped anywhere. This video should explain it better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6ErbZtpL88

Back on topic. Bitmain, I'm ready to purchase more S5's. With the price of BTC creeping up I think it would be worthwhile.

See, I don't understand that.  If it's an enclosed system and the Novec evaporates off the ASICs dropping their temperature, that energy is in the Novec gas.  If it condenses within the enclosed container as it must or it's lost, that energy must be released.  The energy wouldn't leave the enclosed container and its temperature would build.  He says he might heat a driveway.  So, is taking the heat out via whatever fluid is circulating within the condenser enough to remove all the heat?
The fluid vapour is cooled by water.

And the cooled condensate dripping into the lower chamber with the boiling Novec is sufficient to keep the major volume of Novec from rising to a high temperature.  I see how the cool condenser would be sufficient without a running fan to condense the Novec.  My thought was that an additional cooling of the liquid would be needed.

So, say 4 boards of an S5 cooled in this way would need a minimum of how much Novec I wonder.

Many advantages to Novec. No dust (can seal room), no noise, extreme density, can retrofit ANYWHERE, literally just need a room and water pipes. Works in high ambient conditions, can hook up to very cheap evaporative cooling solutions making it low power.

However, none of these help you and its not designed for small scale.
2130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Load Balancing on an Antminer S3? on: March 04, 2015, 03:59:00 PM
I believe load balancing means, if you configure multiple pools it'll spend approximately equal amounts of time hashing on each pool.

That's correct, there also some more exotic variants where you can set quotas between pools. Unless you have a really specific need to part mine an altcoin, stick with one pool and you'll have less problems.
2131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 04, 2015, 01:34:44 AM
dogie we need more S5s or the mythical S6. Use your influence to tell them to giterdun!

 Grin

+1

Don't make me have to go buy used lastgen hardware

No plans have been made either way yet, we'll just have to be patient.

And now the question of the day: Who manufactures the S5 fan and what model?

Probably  JSL
JIANG SHAN LAI ELECTRONICS CO. LTD

JSL's are usually stickered so I think its someone else. On the spec sheet I saw there either wasn't a name or it was something I didn't recognise.
2133  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Pool Payout Comparison List on: March 03, 2015, 11:18:53 PM
EDIT:  Given enough time, it should paint a pretty accurate picture of the different pools payouts, and highlight any discrepancies.

Because we're only talking about a handful of blocks per day on some pools and with integer data (ie a pool expected to find 1.7 blocks a day), its going to take a long long time to reduce the variance such that there are meaningful outcomes from the data. Like, a long long time.
2134  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Pool Payout Comparison List on: March 03, 2015, 10:23:04 PM
Be aware that the comparison is meaningless without either or both of:
1) Removing expected variance on PPLNS
2) Using a large sample of blocks - not time - for each PPLNS pool (a few hundred at least)

Otherwise your results are quite literally similar to saying:
I rolled a dice 4 times and got 2 sixes!
Yes I should get sixes half the time.

I agree with the sentiment, the records will only be recording random variance rather than anything controllable or useful from the pools. I'm unsure of what additional information could be added over the pool comparison thread but maybe there is some.
2135  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool: Pushing forward Decentralization on: March 03, 2015, 10:18:44 PM
Is AntPool available for SP20?
Does somebody have such experience?

Shouldn't be a problem. KnC Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune certainly works.

i just pointed my 3 SP20 to antpool without any problem.. the only thing is that you have to wait a few minutes for them to be shown on your worker's dashboard
This is true, the dashboard updates every five minutes or so--which is different than what you are used to coming from GHASH.

The delay can also be significantly longer when first hooking up a miner, rest assured if its mining then it is working.

There's more complaints about the stock S5 fan noise than the C1 fan noise.  Not the same fan?

Not the same fan. The S5 is the same as the S4's, the C1 is the same as the S3's.

Wonder if the S5 fans have the same bolt pattern as those on the C1.  Summer coming and better cooling might be good.

Do you mean 'square' spacing? If so yes, they're both industry standard '120mm' fans.

[...] Heating by mining is only less efficient when you have gas central heating, and even then it just sets your mining electricity equivalent rates as elec - gas cost.

I expected more from you Dogie, even though you do represent Bitmain you should know better: Heat is only a byproduct from mining so by definition is always less efficient than using dedicated heating devices. Leaving those calculations out of your considerations is stupid at best and misleading at worst...

Um. 99.99% of the energy into a processor gets exhausted as heat, the rest is vibration -> heat or EM radiation -> heat. 'Mining' is a byproduct of flicking transistors between 1 and 0, utilising electricity and outputting heat.

tldr, heat.

noctua has the best fans and is far away better from crosair

They're 2 fans at different performance points used for different purposes - I'm not sure how you can can compare entire brands' of products based on that.
