301  Economy / Reputation / Re: To Leo and all who support Privacy & the original purpose of Bitcoin. Thank you on: January 25, 2024, 10:56:13 PM
I hate the feeling of waking up to reality and realizing we here are not forever.

I precisely believe that this is what makes life unique and worth living, no matter how much fear and sorrow it may make us feel that at some point it will end.

Exactly! Life would have no meaning if it were forever.

It is knowing we only have so much time here that pushes us to follow our dreams, make memories with people we care about, and try to leave things a little better than we found them.  I mean if we were all immortal, I feel like a lot of us would just waste time and take life for granted instead of appreciating how precious it is and  we probably wouldnt worry as much about making the most of every day or leaving some kind of positive legacy behind.  The ticking clock of our mortality sort of adds beauty and importance to this crazy human adventure we are all on together.

As for Leo, I hope he had a good life. No regrets!

With this setup, malware installed on Windows can still access your Linux partition. I have no idea how likely this is (but I wouldn't want Windows to ever touch my partitions).
Then it's better to have Linux as main operating system and install Windows as a guest machine on that system using a software like Virtual box. We really need some features of the Windows and some of the applications are mainly created for Windows OS and that's why we need to have Windows operating system installed on a virtual machine to perform those task.

I think that way we and our files are safe even if Windows operating system gets infected with malware. I'm very sure that it would be a tough task for malware developers to access the files of the host system when their malware is installed in the guest system.

It is still possible for malware to infect your host system, if you transfer infected files directly between the guest and host operating systems or use shared folders.

My main worry with using virtual machines and sandboxes to execute suspicious software is that it can give a false sense of security.  An increasing number of malwares can identify whether they are running inside a VM or sandbox and keep their malicious payloads from executing and  this implies you may run compromised software in a VM and without even knowing, but when you run it on your main system, it could unleash its full potential.
303  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BINANCE AS HOLDER on: January 25, 2024, 10:05:47 PM
Yes yes not a problem here at the forum, just about the adress of the exchange itself. Thanks for the advice!

Take it easy, one step at a time.  Start by getting familiar with some basics about the different kinds of cryptocurrencies out there and  (I saw you asked before whats the difference between a BTC address and TRC address - questions like those are a good place to start).  Learn about the different types of wallets, what private keys, public keys and public addresses are.  Check out how transaction fees work and how they are calculated.  Getting that foundation will pay off so you dont make some costly mistake down the line.

Theres no one perfect approach for everything, a lot depends on the specific situation.  For instance, using a deposit address from a centralized exchange like Binance isn't necessarily bad if the circumstances line up right.  Lets say you just need to receive a one-time payment from someone and you dont plan on holding the coins long-term, you want to swap them.  Centralized exchanges have their downsides no doubt but that doesnt mean they cannot also have some upside too, especially for someone just getting their feet wet with all this.
304  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Hidden Portals on: January 25, 2024, 08:41:08 PM
I believe it's the kind of scam where they build trust by letting him make esmall withdraws to make him invest a huge amount of money, and then they disappear.

Yeah. Its a pretty common tactic with shady exchanges these days - they reel you in with promises of big signup bonuses and other perks, as long as you deposit funds first.  Then once you have put in a chunk of coin, surprise surprise, you find it impossible to withdraw anything.  It preys on people's greed and gullibility.

I discussed all this with him yesterday, but he really wants to believe that it's not a scam. Let's see how it turns out.

Unfortunately, some people seem to be destined to learn the hard way.  Your friend appears to be one of them.

Still, best advice is dont get fooled by appearances and any offer that looks too good to be true almost certainly is.
305  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this where I can ask about mixers? on: January 24, 2024, 10:36:30 PM
I don't know...

One guy says it OK to talk about them but don't post links.

Another guy says don't talk about mixers at all but has a link to a wallet with a built in mixer in his avi and signature.

The next guy is talking through google translate? But he seems to be pretty sure I'll be banned for even thinking about mixers.

Its all very confusing especially since the purpose of bitcoin is private, peer to peer payments outside of government control.

The new rule says you still can discuss mixers as long as you dont post direct links.  And using link shorteners to hide mixer URLs is prohibited too.  So I think we should be able to talk about them as long as we keep it conversational.  Because they can be useful tools for community if used right.

However, there are a couple things that not allowed when it comes to mixers.  You cant do giveaways, sponsorships, bounties, or any kind of paid posts or ads in your threads. And promoting mixers in signatures, avatars, and your profile is prohibited too.
306  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Hidden Portals on: January 24, 2024, 10:12:23 PM
they are buying Tether at 10% above its value.

Question: Why would they do that?

Do you know about these types of portals, or can you provide more information on how and why they operate like this? Who is involved, and why are they selling Tether at these values?

Oh, I see! You dont know either.  No, I have never heard of such hidden portals either. I gotta say, sure sounds sketchy to me.  Makes me wonder if its not just some kinda scam to sucker folks in.  If it seems too good to be true. . . you know the saying.  In any case, Id avoid anything claiming secret portals and higher payoffs unless you like tossing money into black holes.
307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BINANCE AS HOLDER on: January 24, 2024, 09:37:13 PM
Please guys, i didnt find any topic about it. When i was updating my profile, it has a field to add our btc adress. So, i took my deposit adress from binance and added there. But i know this is not the right thing.

You can basically put whatever you want in that field. there is no rule as to which type of Bitcoin wallet you must use.
Just remember that the deposit address Binance (or any exchange) gives you isnt technically your wallet.  You dont own that address; Binance lets you use it as part of its service and  so if you ever need to prove you own that address, like if someone hacks your account, youre out of luck.

So, for a totally newbie, what app, website, source code, anything. What should i do to have an adress that will not be violated?

I suggest you direct this question to the Beginners & Help board, you will get more specific answers there. But for starters, I suggest you read this topic where everything is nicely explained: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?

309  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your state on mind if your son stole your money to gamble? on: January 20, 2024, 10:39:08 PM
~
Question: would she be so disheartened and mad as this if the son had won the bet on a multi million price?
Dear fellows, let's assume you are the mom, what would be your state of mind on this context?

The fact that he took the money without asking her shows he doesnt respect her or care about her trust.  It is also pretty messed up that he used the money to gamble instead of something smarter.

I bet she wouldnt be as disheartened  if he had won the bet.  That wouldve been a nice surprise, but it wouldnt change the fact that he stole from her and gambled away her money.  She would still feel betrayed and let down even if he got lucky.

If it was me, I would be so pissed and  I would want to punish my kid so they knew they screwed up bad.  I would also be stressed about what could happen because of how they acted, like getting into debt or becoming a gambling addict.  Thats scary stuff.

But also, kids gotta be raised right from when they little.  Not saying you gotta be super strict or anything.  But you gotta be there for them and help them grow up smart and kind and all that good stuff.  Make sure they dont go running around doing nonsense and  do that and they will probably turn out decent in the end.
310  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the best way make your Bitcoin anonymous right now? "Mixers"? on: January 20, 2024, 10:17:23 PM
No!! Mixers don't work anymore, stay away from them.

What do you mean by "mixers don't work anymore"?

I am not saying that using a centralized service is the best option, but it is wrong to say that they dont work. Some people still prefer to use mixers because of their ease of use.

311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can we consider a project legitimate if it has been in existence for two years? on: January 19, 2024, 10:49:42 PM
Well, there is that old saying - if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.  This staking pool or whatever it is claiming to be definitely fits into that category.  I mean really, a consistent 10% daily return for two whole years? When you do the math on compound interest over just one year the amounts quickly become astronomical.  Simply impossible to deliver legitimately.

So I would say this is almost certainly a Ponzi scheme thats eventually going to collapse. If they pay anything at all... They lure in victims with promises of ridiculous, unsustainable returns until they get enough money to take the cash and run and  oldest trick in the book really.  I know it can be tempting when you see dollar signs, but best to trust your gut on things that seem shifty.  Just walk away and keep your money where it belongs - safely in your own pocket.
312  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: I copied a chipmixer that uses testnet bitcoin. on: January 19, 2024, 10:31:47 PM
~
I hope this does not violate the rules, because this is not a Bitcoin Mixer that can be truly used.

Promoting services that primarily serve for coin mixing is no longer allowed on this forum.

- Mixer announcement threads are not allowed. †

You can read the whole announcement from theymos here, and I believe your project falls under that category. However, I am not entirely sure if this also applies to the Bitcoin testnet.  I think it does.

You better delete the onion address from your post and ask for clarification in the Meta section, otherwise your account may be locked.
313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I was robbed, and the severe setback made me rethink a problem on: January 19, 2024, 10:09:44 PM
~
Is this "lock" technically difficult to implement?

Nothing but your private key unlocks the "lock". Why would you need a lock that locks another lock?
Keep your private key safe, and there is nothing else to it.

And if you need a more secure lock, because you dont know how to keep your private keys safe, get yourself a hardware wallet. So your private keys will never be exposed.
314  Other / Meta / Re: Find a deleted post that contains a specific text on: January 19, 2024, 09:46:20 PM
~
Could it be possible to search for something specific on such archive? Thanks.

As Cantsay and others have suggested, you can use ninjastic.space to search archived posts, even deleted ones. Unfortunately, there is no way to limit the search to only deleted posts, as far as I know. Therefore, you will have to manually check each result to see if it is still an active post or not.  But you can limit the search to posts from a certain author and from certain boards only, if that helps.
315  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Issue - Warning Some Data... on: January 19, 2024, 09:29:45 PM
I am using Android and am on version 4.4.6
~snip~

If you have a seed, I would suggest that you uninstall Electrum and download an older version, I suggest one of the versions that were released about 1 year ago. These would be versions 4.3.3 or 4.3.4 which can be downloaded from the official Electrum site. Of course, you need to download the apk version and install it manually.

https://download.electrum.org

Old versions have bugs in them. He's better off using the latest version which he can get from the playstore.

Special circumstances sometimes require older versions of the application, despite potential bugs or missing features.
Besides, there are no security risks or vulnerabilities in the Electrum versions that Lucius suggested, as far as I am aware.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Instant Bitcoin on: January 18, 2024, 04:53:05 PM
Probably you are right. They claim to process pow block every second. That means that block has 10 confirmations in 10 seconds. And that they currently run test net with a 0.1-second pow block. 1 second for 10 confirmations. Basically instant.
I think they are some PoS fake centralized. Because this is simply impossible. PoW can't be that fast.

If you dont mind my asking, which coin were you looking at? Im happy to dig into their white paper and see if their claims hold any merit or if they are mostly hype.  There is so many coins out there now, it is impossible to keep track of them all! But I do try to keep an open mind and give new projects the benefit of the doubt before passing judgement.

Either way, healthy skepticism is wise when companies make big claims that seem too good to be true.
317  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Issue - Warning Some Data... on: January 18, 2024, 04:33:32 PM
I can see the money in my wallet but, when I try to send anything, I get the error message about the data being left out of the QR code and to share with the device.  I'm completely stumped and would greatly appreciate the most simple way of getting that coin out of that wallet and into one that will allow me to actually use it or withdraw it.

Yeah, the error message "data left out of QR code" pops up when theres just too much info in the transaction.  I ran into it myself when trying to push through a big transaction on Electrum - had a ton of inputs and outputs since I was moving funds between a bunch of addresses and  the little QR just cant fit all that complex data!

If you can share more details on exactly what you were doing when you saw the message.  Knowing the Electrum version, what kinda transaction it was, how many inputs and outputs were included all that nitty gritty would help us troubleshooting where the bottleneck happened.  Maybe we can find a workaround for this problem.
318  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin without a confirmation on: January 17, 2024, 10:59:38 PM
So what I am saying is that Bitcoin is not economically viable or fast enough to handle most merchant transactions.  Most businesses need instant confirmation and will not pay extra to use a payment method that very few people use anyways.  For Bitcoin to be attractive it needs to be faster and cheaper.

As Danny said, shops selling physical goods dont really need instant payments.  Actually, for a bunch of businesses, the fact that Bitcoin takes a while to go through is not that big of a problem.  Even the sale of digital products, such as subscriptions and cloud-based services, does not necessarily require instant confirmation.  As long as you have the option of canceling the ordered service in cases where the payment does not go through.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Investors are sought for the Layer 1 Blockchain project. on: January 17, 2024, 10:25:47 PM
So, where can potential investors find more information about your project?

You claim your project is ready for investment, but you have provided no publicly accessible information about it.  If you are serious about attracting investors, you need to put your project out there, not just tell potential investors to contact you for details.   No serious investor will waste their valuable time on this.

As we enter 2024, Bitcoin remains a hot topic among investors worldwide. Since its inception, Bitcoin has experienced significant price fluctuations, leading to debates about its long-term investment potential. To assess whether Bitcoin is still a viable investment in 2024, let's examine its current status, technological developments, regulatory environment, and market dynamics.

Current Status and Historical Performance

Bitcoin has come a long way since its launch in 2009, with its price experiencing dramatic highs and lows. However, in 2024, the key question is whether Bitcoin still has room for substantial growth or if it has reached its peak.

It's important to note that Bitcoin remains highly volatile, with prices capable of rapid and substantial fluctuations. Seasoned Bitcoin investors are familiar with these price swings. Historical data shows that after each price downturn, Bitcoin often recovers and reaches higher values.

Technological Developments

Bitcoin has seen significant technological advancements since its inception. While its underlying technology, blockchain, remains the same, innovations like Segregated Witness (SegWit) and the Lightning Network have been implemented to improve transaction efficiency and speed. However, questions persist about the scalability and sustainability of Bitcoin's technology.

Additionally, there is competition from alternative digital currencies (altcoins) and other blockchain projects. Ethereum, for example, with its Ethereum 2.0 upgrade, has the potential to become a strong competitor with the ability to handle more transactions and complex smart contracts.

Regulatory Environment

Regulation plays a crucial role in Bitcoin's future. In 2024, we may see further developments in cryptocurrency regulations globally. Some countries have already implemented regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies, while others are still exploring options. Stringent regulation could limit Bitcoin's growth, while supportive regulations could provide additional legitimacy.

Market Dynamics

In recent years, we've witnessed large financial institutions and major companies showing interest in Bitcoin. Some have even invested in Bitcoin as part of their portfolios. Institutional adoption has significantly supported Bitcoin's price.

However, the Bitcoin market remains highly influenced by psychological factors and investor sentiment. News, rumors, and statements from prominent figures can have a significant impact on Bitcoin's price in the short term.

Conclusion

The decision to invest in Bitcoin in 2024 requires careful consideration. Bitcoin remains a highly volatile and speculative asset, but it also holds potential for substantial growth. Before making an investment decision, it's essential to conduct thorough research, assess your personal risk tolerance, and contemplate your long-term investment goals.

While numerous factors influence Bitcoin's investment potential, one thing is certain: Bitcoin continues to be a captivating topic, sparking diverse opinions and discussions. In navigating the uncertainty, awareness of risks and the potential for high returns is key to determining whether Bitcoin remains a viable investment in 2024.
