301  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mixing s7 hashboards on: March 28, 2018, 11:20:08 PM
You can mix and match any s7 board so what you are proposing will work just fine. One important detail is you need to run the miner at the speed of the slowest board. If you try and run that 600m board at 700 it wont last long.
302  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to address "PIC need restore" from Antminer S9 kernel? on: March 28, 2018, 05:51:42 PM
I have consistantly seen this error with the bitmain miners I have purchased in the last 4 months. They all have 1127 dated firmware. Rolling this firmware back has solved the issue nearly 100% of the time for me. I run the 42817 firmware with no issues.
303  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: RHB-500 on: March 27, 2018, 03:19:20 PM
Considering the power supply is only 4 amp @ 5v I doubt this will work for you if you are looking to mine. Fully loaded you wouldnt even get 500ma per port.
304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: is it safe 3 risers plugged into the same sata cable on: March 26, 2018, 09:32:19 PM
it could cause you issues, try to connect max 2 risers per cable

Remember on a Sata connector there is only a single 20-18 AWG wire actually providing 12v. You should do what the person I quoted said and just run 2 per cable run. I have hundreds of miners runnning 2 per with no issues whatsoever, if you bump that up to 3 you will eventually have fires/failures/sadness of some sort.
305  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need help with new V9s - set up pics included. on: March 26, 2018, 04:32:07 PM
With the crazy amount of HW errors being shown it just looks like you have a bad board. Its pretty common with ASIC hardware, you just need to RMA that unit.
306  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Moving Miners. Cool or not cool? on: March 26, 2018, 04:20:49 PM
Just power them down, move them, and power them back up. Other than letting them cool a bit so you dont burn yourself moving them, there really is nothing special that needs to be done.
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: WhatToMine profitabilty, should you mine based on this? on: March 23, 2018, 11:34:32 PM
Thanks for the reply. So, do all the big players with large farms select the currency to mine each day on various rigs and then cash out (or convert to bitCoin) on a daily basis, or do they hold all the coins they mine?

Another quick question:

Can I run Claymore miner and have it mine for NiceHash on 1 card and Pirl on another? I understand that unless I am using NiceHash Miner that it will not auto switch algorithms, so I'd have to stick with one (DaggerHashimoto or Equihash), but am curious and think that I would have a safe bet if I was mining on NiceHash and a gamble mining Pirl rather than putting all my eggs in one basket.

Also, if I set Claymore to mine to my Nicehash wallet and use Equihash, what currency will it actually be mining, or does it actually matter what Nicehash is mining, as long as I get paid?

I run a large farm and for a variety of reasons do not switch coins all the time. For one, it creates an absolute NIGHTMARE when doing financials, and honestly we do not convert all that often. We might build up 200 ZEC before moving it when the market is good.

Claymore you can set specific GPUs, as long as the second miner you want can select the unused GPUs you will be just fine mining 2 coins like that.

Claymore setting:

-di    GPU indexes, default is all available GPUs. For example, if you have four GPUs "-di 02" will enable only first and third GPUs (#0 and #2).
You can also turn on/off cards in runtime with "0"..."9" keys and check current statistics with "s" key.
For systems with more than 10 GPUs: use letters to specify indexes more than 9, for example, "a" means index 10, "b" means index 11, etc; also "a", "b", and "c" keys allow you to turn on/off GPU #10, #11 and #12 in runtime.
308  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 chain problem on: March 23, 2018, 03:15:07 PM
I cant speak as to why its not showing bad chips, I just pointed out the errors the system itself is showing in the kernel log. If you are in the US you can ship to the California depot and from what I have heard recently its a 3-4 week turnaround
309  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need firewall help: which ports can I allow to access miners? on: March 23, 2018, 03:13:50 PM
You should never EVER EVER allow internet access to your miners, they will be hacked within minutes.
310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 2.5 mW miner hosting/colocation facility in Montreal, QC on: March 22, 2018, 11:33:16 PM
Hi there. I am interested and looking for about 250-300kw of space. Do you have a website or any other information about the company?
311  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s9 fan making noise on: March 22, 2018, 11:13:13 PM
You want a 6000 RPM fan that is at least 2.4 amp. The s7 fans will work just fine on an s9 as well.
312  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Notes from my journey to Beijing & visiting Canaan Creative in March 10-15, 2018 on: March 22, 2018, 09:51:59 PM
Once I have accurate stats  on failure rates and modes ( stats iwas one of my side gigs-- field failure on autoparts)
I will start to include free spares on larger orders..

small sample stats is hard..LOL

You guys have already done that for me, so thank you for that! My last order of 1000 Avalon 741s came with 20 spares, of which we have only had to use 13 in the last 9 months.

Canaan has no equal in this industry as far as the reliability of the units go. The issue for me has always been efficiency and price. While I dont mind paying for quality, its hard to take a hit on the efficiency side when you are talking thousands of units like I work with.

In my experience, the reliability has not made up for the power usage. It looks like with the 8 series you guys are on track to be at least competitive in that regard and I cant wait to get my test 841 and put it through the gauntlet.
313  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 chain problem on: March 22, 2018, 08:24:34 PM
More likely you need to RMA this unit.

If you look here you can see that the software is detecting failed chips on your first board.

chain[5]: some chip cores are not opened FAILED!
Test Patten on chain[5]: FAILED!
chain[6]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[6]: FAILED!
chain[7]: All chip cores are opened OK!
Test Patten on chain[7]: OK!

Looking here we see that it is not able to query the hashing board for its temperature either, which is why there is no temp shown on the status page.

do read temp on Chain[5]
Chain[5] Chip[62] TempTypeID=55 middle offset=27
read failed, old value: Chain[5] Chip[62] local Temp=0
read failed on Chain[5] Chip[62] middle Temp old value:0

Done read temp on Chain[5]
do read temp on Chain[6]
Chain[6] Chip[62] TempTypeID=55 middle offset=26
Chain[6] Chip[62] local Temp=70
Chain[6] Chip[62] middle Temp=81
Done read temp on Chain[6]
do read temp on Chain[7]
Chain[7] Chip[62] TempTypeID=55 middle offset=27
Chain[7] Chip[62] local Temp=70
Chain[7] Chip[62] middle Temp=80
Done read temp on Chain[7]

A copy of the kernel log would be helpful in this manner, we will not be able to help from that screenshot.
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: For all miners, Asics are a dirty game against Cryptos - CN asic is a proof on: March 20, 2018, 11:50:34 PM
......

Most countries have 100% or more tax import, if you buy on theses countries a gpu, tax is low cause price of gpu is low and that is related to how import tax is charged, now asics are expensive, so most of the world can't buy asics cause if for you as you must live in tax-free country then you will pay $12k now think about $24k or more for them. For gpu's don't work like that, maximum they will pay more is 30% tax. So people around the world can still compete if 30%, if 100% no. Also those countries might never give you the hardware, gpus they don't care, is a computer hardware, they will never take it from you. GPU's are used for gaming, bitcoin asics only for money. I have seen in many cases customs of many countries charged 500% to 1000% if they found out is a bitcoin altcoin asic and in many cases they took from you without any notice and there is nothing you can do.

So my point is, if you knew this and yet sided with asics then it means you do not believe in decentralization cause like many you are a greedy bastard and want centralization cause you use that to your advantage.

Right now you can buy ASICs considerably cheaper than a GPU rig so what the hell are you talking about?

So lets say I have to pay $1500 for an asic, then pay a 100% tax im sitting at $3000 for the ASIC. If I want to build a 6 card 1080 Ti rig im looking at $7000 before taxes at current prices. So how is it that ASICs are a barrier based on cost when they are cheaper, more reliable, easier to use, etc....?

The centralization argument still holds no water because there are MASSIVE GPU farms out there just like for ASICs. I mean I manage over 10,000 GPUs in my facility alone.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: Continuous, Renewable, Reliable, Hydrokinetic Crypto Mining on: March 20, 2018, 11:16:42 PM
What exactly is the difference between what you call Hydrokinetic, and Hydroelectric? Harnessing water flow to make electricity has been a thing since the 1800s. I am curious what makes your way different.

I guess there's just been less documentation of Bitmain having some sort of repair training program, I haven't even heard of something like that until now. Is there any information about Bitmain's program out there somewhere? I've never been great with the technical details of miner repair and I happen to be traveling to China this summer (specifically Nanchang and Beijing), I'd be glad to take a detour to Bitmain or Avalon's facility to see how things work.

Bitmain is less forthcoming about it, and at the time did not want it known publicly as they had already decided among their customer base who would benefit most from the training. When I send RMAs to bitmain, its usually at least 250-300 units and I am one of their top large scale customers so im pretty sure thats why I was targeted. They even took us out on a yacht!

I know this isnt a really good description of what im trying to say, but from the pictures posted Avalon looks alot more "first world" in their manufacturing and build process than what I saw at bitmain. Much cleaner, nicer facility, much more attention to detail.
318  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Notes from my journey to Beijing & visiting Canaan Creative in March 10-15, 2018 on: March 20, 2018, 09:36:22 PM
I wish I had known they were looking for people. I have managed literally thousands of Avalons since beginning my career in crypto.

Last year I visted Bitmain for the same reasons. I toured their facilities, learned how to repair s7 and s9 miners, and learned quite a bit about how their business functions. It would really be great to do something similar with Avalon.

Was Qin FengLing (AKA Mike) still there? I worked with him during the Avalon 6 days.

I love the technician Certification program Canaan are running, great that Avalon's actually being extremely transparent with their machines and they're willing to actually certify people to repair machines instead of a MyRig and Bitmain Warranty repair service (with some people like Lightfoot, of course) on Bitmain's side, and that they're actually concerned about customer satisfaction unlike Bitmain. This only increases my trust in Canaan, and I'm personally interested in how to troubleshoot and possibly repair these things now.  Cheesy

Bitmain has been offering this same type of training for over a year now, so saying they arent concerned really isnt true :/ They are doing things at 10x the scale of everyone else and the company has been suffering growing pains. For example they were out of space in their Beijing offices before the building was even finished due to the rapid expansion of the company.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CryptoNight miners from more companies in one time? on: March 20, 2018, 08:34:36 PM
Try to sell them for 12000USD at first, and in 24 hours reduce the price to 3000, and finally on 1900USD!!!

The pricing is done like that for a reason, the batches are staged to release by date, they know that batch 2 will not be as profitable as batch 3, so they price accordingly. Yet another example of people taking one tiny detail, creating intent around it, then stating it like it is fact.

I think you did not finish reading my post.

You shouldnt bother going back and forth with Metroid, he is one of the biggest trolls on this site. Go look at his posts, there is nothing meaningful about them, just conspiracy theories and mockery of people. He adds zero value to the community.
