<insert hoops to jump here>.

Where <hoops> may be to just log on to Silk Road and type the code there for instant credit, like a gift card, which will represent a use case even average joe can understand and appreciate.

Then they will use the funds to purchase a ten dollar bill discreetly mailed to them.

woot, bitcoin coupons accepted everywhere even in the satoshi client (key sweep), mtgox have it already

Hello from Maryland!

I love the idea and premise that Bitcoin brings to the table of this world. With the dollar slowly but surely failing, and with increased controls on my paper money, I would love for a united worldwide currency to thrive in the fashion Bitcoin could provide.

I'm excited in this venture, and in all honesty I hope to be able to sell items and purchase items in the market section using Bitcoins. I want to support it. I don't look at this as a potential profit, but more as an investment in the future of Bitcoins and my hope of their success!

3386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ANN] New Premium Online Bitcoin Casino on: December 15, 2011, 02:28:33 AM
i like your casino but have a few issues though...

can you give the user an option to change into a neutral theme ? the one you have enabled uses lots of resources

can you post some references on the random number generator your casino is using ?
3387  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin100 & archive.org on: December 15, 2011, 02:12:04 AM
awesome management Phinnaeus Gage you really got the ball rolling  Cheesy

Regarding the archive.org, i'm still a little confused by all the events. CoinLab posted the link to a thread announcing archive.org already taking bitcoin donations after some member of our forum had posted comments on their blog regarding bitcoin. Seems like it caught their attention. I may be obvious on this but not even one Bitcoin100 pledger or spokesman had something to do with them doing that. We didn't see any emails made public either.
I think we should get some real work done on charities less wiling to accept bitcoin donations, not taking any credit in the process on those we didn't do nothing.
3388  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sweep/import private key feature request on: December 15, 2011, 12:33:35 AM
If you're an uber-geek and know what you're doing, then you should use geeky, dangerous tools like PyWallet to do what you want to do.

Agreed, except those doing web services that might depend on this feature are left with either non-official clients or patching the official ones, which gets complicated to maintain in a stable, well tested way.

The current import patch needs work to be of practical use to web services-- it does a scan of the entire blockchain to find transactions to the newly imported key (and keeps the wallet locked that entire time).  For any sweep/import solution to be useful for more than once-in-a-blue-moon use, an index of pubkeys to transactions involving those keys should be kept.

It seems to me the "sweep now, and re-sweep every once-in-a-while" functionality would work nicely for web services. Can you describe a use case that wouldn't work?

would be possible to have the basic sweep feature implemented ? in some kind of "advanced features" section and all the required warnings. And yes "sweep" seems to be more correct describing the action done with they priv key.
3389  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sweep/import private key feature request on: December 14, 2011, 07:55:53 PM
When importing the private key, just have a check box that says
Quote
If this private key may be known to others, check here to transfer the bitcoins to a new key in your wallet. A transaction fee may apply

In either case, you keep the imported private key in the wallet, in case more BTC is sent to it.

+1, nice elegant way of importing keys.

How about exporting/importing priv keys to file too, with a .bit extension for ex. Should export a newly generated key and fund it with the amount you enter in the respective dialog.
3390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Internet Archive (Home of the Wayback Machine) Accepting Bitcoin Donations! on: December 14, 2011, 05:41:55 PM

wooow  Cheesy and they didn't spend even 1 satoshi
3391  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Sweep/import private key feature request on: December 14, 2011, 05:28:14 PM
Pretty-please, is importprivkey or sweepprivkey or any similar functionality coming soon?

3392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia's yearly donation campaign; Time to accept Bitcoins? on: December 14, 2011, 05:16:35 PM
I'm a bit disappointed at this. Wikipedia was a disruptive technology desperately trying to find ways to bootstrap itself, not even a decade ago. Back in 2004-2005 large organizations didn't take Wikipedia seriously just like Wikipedia doesn't take Bitcoin seriously now. Wikipedia also had to face their fair share of excrement being slung at them from the mainstream media, when they were new. They should know what it's like.  Why don't they give Bitcoin a chance? It isn't any more of a hassle accepting Bitcoin than accepting other non-monetary donations.  Ideologically, Bitcoin and Wikipedia are quite similar and could benefit each other tremendously.

Legal requirements for being a registered charity exclude Bitcoin. Laws exclude Bitcoin.

it's the other way around, laws don't include bitcoin

Why Satoshi leave bitcoin ?  Huh

we all have that question in our heads Tongue maybe you should start a thread and see what answers you get...
3397  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Stages of Bitcoin acceptance on: December 13, 2011, 04:33:27 AM
Stage 0: Trading Bitcoin as a commodity. Speculation will drive value to one or two orders of magnitude.
Stage 1: Social Networking will adapt Bitcoin for micropayments. Speculation will drive value to one or two orders of magnitude.
Stage 2: Commerce will embrace Bitcoin as an overlay mechanism, like Paypal. Speculation will drive value one or two orders of magnitude.
Stage 3: Bitcoin will replace local banking for businesses enjoying low fees. Local legislatures will officially recognize Bitcoin. Speculation peaks.
Stage 4: Nations will begin to decouple currencies and adapt Bitcoin.
Stage 5: Nations and corporations will merge as they lose their competitive advantage over decentralized enterprises.
Stage 6: National borders will dissolve as decentralized enterprises evolve into AI driven civilization planning.
Stage 7: Bitcoin will evolve into a scientific-method based algorithm using Asimovian principles.
Stage 8: Ebil robot zombies will eat our brains and conquer the Universe.

Stage 9: Satoshi reveals himself to be an omnipotent beings who used his ultimate weapon, Bitcoin, to finally subjugate all 73 parallel universes under his control.

or free them, altogether, from the slavery they got into with the human-faced bankers

Getting all the adulation with none of the ownership, not bad for an orphaned prototype which one would hope will not be his last decent idea. Very prudent to not burn his identity/brand on an initial effort.

thought you had some shooting to do and please keep your hate comments to yourself  Undecided
3399  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: December 12, 2011, 10:11:18 PM
I'd be happy to have my 1BTC going to them, though I'd be inclined to send a bit more if they put a button on their donation page instead of burying the address in the FAQ.

+1

Though maybe it can work if we donate the current 60BTC amount first, then let them know there were objections to hiding the Bitcoin donation option behind a link, and tell them the rest of the 40BTC pledged will likely be donated after it's fixed?

-1
It was their decision to put it there, we shouldn't push it too much I think.

-1, with enough time they will put it where it belongs
