341  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake; one couple two accounts illegal? on: March 02, 2024, 11:23:31 AM
Was it illegal to open two accounts between me and my husband?

It's against their TOS most probably, because how would they know whether it's different people creating those accounts if IP address is the same?  Roll Eyes

I will provide all the documents required but I would like to know first if what we did was prohibited or not.

What you did is prohibited in every platform, you can't create multiple accounts using the same IP address, if you do, you will either get banned or restricted and then asked for identity verification.

Maybe its time for the bounty managers to level up their rules on participants, because you cant expect something much from a user who has been always running after bounties and shillings without having any merit in the last 150 days, or maybe some of these their campaigns should start accepting only members from full member upwards, most of these newbies accounts were just only created for these purpose.

I don't see a link between these shilling accounts and posts with bounty or signature campaigns, you probably didn't understand the context of all this because it's not about users spamming for post counts and signature earnings but it's about new accounts being created and topics started in large quantities to promote a certain project filling a specific board or section, in this case, Altcoin Discussion, with spam.
344  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: February 25, 2024, 04:58:34 PM
You may also bestow demotion powers to intelligent reputable members like LoyceV, Yahoo62278, Notatether, Moccaccino, Logfiles, Suchmoon and others.

That's a good way to try and stay in the good books of reputable members but I'm not sure if that would work, especially after what Poker Player have posted.  Tongue
345  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 25, 2024, 04:18:02 PM
I think that creating a keyword reporting option would introduce new problems for moderators and probably cause false positive reports. For example, what if someone creates a scam accusation against that project?

I was thinking about a section-specific thing like a ban or a restriction that could be implemented in certain sections to restrict users or maybe new users from creating new topics with the keyword that is banned or blacklisted.

Usually this crap happens in the ANN section (and it's probably still happening for all I know).

Spam events like this one are often carried out in the discussion sections. This is not the first time I've seen serial spamming like this where a bunch of new accounts keep creating new threads with different titles having the same keyword and slightly different content in the OP shilling for their shit projects. These are either paid activities or are carried out by the project members themselves, however, it's pretty frustrating to see.

You can always count on LoyceV to knock those bitches out of the park.  He is truly a Merit Cycling Club member worth his weight in gold.

Thanks to him, most of the topics were reported and deleted and their creators were banned very quickly. I reported a bunch myself from LoyceV's spam filter from his website that he mentioned above, most of them were already reported when I started checking.

Keyword bans can be implemented by the admin AFAIK, and they are only done in really necessary situations and not just used when a new spam pops up from a couple of newbies. They also have to be done very specifically so other unsuspecting users are not affected.

I know, I didn't mean a keyword ban to be implemented throughout the forum, but only in the section where the spam is currently going on, maybe make it a restriction type of a thing where accounts below Member cannot create a new thread/topic with that specific keyword.

it's definitely very different and I understand your plea but enhhh-  is it enough to convince Theymos on creating something like this? He's got so many pending requests and my deep fear isn't even about him responding on time to insurgencies like this; now my big fear is about how he'll handle this minute issue should it begin to strike even bigger...

I don't know, but all I know is that a filter sort of thing could be helpful for mods if he implements it. He should add a feature for mods to be able to add keywords in a filter that wouldn't allow accounts below a certain rank to do specific things like creating new topics, etc.
If mods could add such a filter in Altcoin Discussion where they would add "Magic Square" in the list of keywords after which accounts below Member rank couldn't create new topics with this keyword either in the title or body of the topic, the spam could have stopped without any problem. And of course, the filters could be reset anytime by the mods.
346  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 24, 2024, 06:23:01 PM
I receive many notifications on Telegram almost all notifications are magic square and they keep promoting their project with newly created accounts.
I think if you can see this thread for now what you can only do is report it.
However, I hope that mods will make some solution to this because almost all notifications that I received are related to this project. Banning magic or SQR is a smart idea but I do not know if mods have tools to ban these keywords maybe the admin can do that.

It's extremely frustrating when you visit a certain section and see a bunch of new accounts spamming a project and every other title contains the same keyword, the content of the topics might be different but the purpose is the same.

OP, can I leave it to you to report the other spammers?

Yes, I will report all that I can find. Thank you for adding the keyword.
347  Other / Meta / Re: There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 24, 2024, 05:50:18 PM
The keyword report will be a good one to make, but it might also be misused since there are some commonly used words and phrases here on the forum. If such a word happens to be the keyword for the report, you might also end up reporting a thread that has good value to share with the community.

I don’t understand what you mean by a keyword ban like a ban placed on a particular word for some minutes before they are released? I don’t think that’s right, what if other members wants to use that same word in another discussion? Wouldn’t that hindered the decentralization of this forum?

A keyword ban can be placed only for keywords that are being used in that specific section for spamming projects such as the instance we are seeing here, it shouldn't be a common keyword that any user might use and mods can evaluate the spamming before they place the ban in place, and the reports should provide a suggestion to mods that they can use for their evaluation process.

You can report one of the thread and mention the right description will get the account to be nuked which will delete all the posts the user made including topics, so instead of reporting every thread, you can just report one that can be effective.

They create every other topic with a different user account, so this isn't effective in this case.

If they continue to spam, it will actually reduce the credibility of their platform because of bad marketing patterns, no one likes spam and no one likes platforms that are promoted using spam methods.

It's not about their project getting attention, it's about not allowing them to misuse the ability to create new topics without restriction.
348  Other / Meta / There should be a keyword report and keyword ban option to reduce spam on: February 24, 2024, 05:21:52 PM
By the time of writing this, there are about 9 topics created by brand new or newbie accounts in Altcoin Discussion promoting a project called "Magic Square".
I'm pretty sure there will be more coming in shortly because they are on a mission to promote this project at any cost, it's serial shilling as we all know it.

The point is, how many topics/threads is one going to report by opening them one by one? Can't there be a way to report keywords to mods or admins that would serve as a suggestion for them to ban a certain keyword to avoid temporary spam such as the one I have mentioned above?

Update: Most of the topics and posts are deleted and users are banned thanks to users who have reported them, especially LoyceV for adding the keyword under the spam category in his website that had helped me find and report a bunch of them.
However, it could still be easier to do this if mods could implement a keyword ban on titles or something similar that could reduce the spam and the need for manually reporting every single thread/topic.

Yes, the site is dead for the most part, but maybe one day it will gain popularity.

And you are trying to give it a little push, right?  Tongue
Like some other users said, it's pretty evident that it's either your website, you are a part of it, or you have been paid to promote it here, so I don't see any reason for you to not accept what it is because no one is going to do anything to you if you accept the truth and say it openly.
350  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 08, 2024, 07:13:40 AM
How about everyone of us do the DCA in bitcoin unless bitcoin reaches 100,000$. For example, everyone can invest 5$ a day in bitcoin and keep on doing this activity for 100 days or for any number of days until bitcoin reaches 100,000$. Interesting Idea ?

What makes you think that every person in the community can afford to invest $5 a day in Bitcoin? Or you don't want everyone to participate because if it's about money, maybe not everyone can participate. Doing pushups or any other exercise is for everyone, it's free of cost and anyone can participate regardless of their financial status or anything else.

Also, i do not know what could be doing the beneifts of pushup for X number of days, but doing the DCA for X number of days will surely make your portfolio look a lot more better on the day when bitcoin is 100K.

Benefits? Health and fitness! Don't you consider being healthy and fit to be beneficial? They say health is the biggest wealth one can have, even if you have the whole world, it's of no use to you if you are not healthy or fit because you won't be able to do anything in that situation. So you can't say that this activity wouldn't have any benefits, it's not always about financial gains.

@OgNasty, I'm in, though I can't promise that I can keep up until the day Bitcoin hits $100k, but I'll do the best of my abilities.

Looking for a trusted and reliable campaign manager on bitcointalk? You are on the right thread!
Feel free to contact yahoo anytime.

I think his reputation is self-explanatory and he is also active himself in the thread. No offense, but this wasn't necessary.

353  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Utopia P2P - Official Android Review Campaign (Newbie - Legendary) 💎 on: January 05, 2024, 09:27:14 PM
My Review:
First things first, the UI is amazing. It's fast, easy to navigate through and not laggy at all.
Utopia AI is an amazing tool and assistant, it can give information about Utopia ecosystem and outside of it.
Utopia Wallet can store CRP, the native token of Utopia, and UUSD which is a DAI-backed stablecoin. You can send and receive tokens and coins anonymously through the app.
Overall, it's a great app, and Utopia is an amazing project with great potential.

I have a question. I was wondering if we can hide the name shown in the Play Store if it's our real name. Please let me know if that isn't a problem.
And, is it a problem if I write the review in English instead of my own language? Wouldn't that be better?

P.S.: I would prefer receiving USDT if my review gets accepted.

This solution is incredibly stupid. This will kill the entire forum ecosystem  Embarrassed

Many people said the same when Merit system was first introduced, but it didn't create problems but made things better and easier for everyone and the forum as well. Bear in mind that such decisions are not taken just like that, there are a lot of things that we don't know or realize, and someone who is in charge of everything will know more and he must be keeping a lot of things in the background just to keep us safe or avoid spreading panic all around.

Changes come and go, things evolve, but nothing stops, the world keeps going and things start to look normal after a little while.

You didn't need to create a new thread to discuss something when the same thing is being discussed already in a previously created thread.

Here is the thread: What's your Favorite Altcoin and Why? created by BitcoinBarrel
357  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies Stop Teaching When You Need To Learn. on: October 28, 2023, 07:28:12 AM
Newbies that come to this forum with the purpose of learning don't do that, it's only the ones that are referred by someone to the forum saying that they can actually earn money from here if they reach a certain rank and join a signature campaign, they are also told that they can't rank up if they don't get Merits, so the fundamental target they have is to earn Merits, and as they surf the forum, they come to know that one needs to make constructive posts to earn Merits, and for some reason, most newbies think that a constructive post is a very long and informative post whether it serves any purpose or not, whether it's being repeated for the thousandth time, or whether it solves an unsolved problem, they don't think about any of this and just make random posts attempting to earn some Merits.

I also believe that the reason why such users create threads trying to teach something is because they occasionally see OP's getting a lot of Merits in their initial posts which makes them think that maybe people give Merits easily to created threads compared to posts in those threads which is a completely wrong mindset but at the end of the day, they are newbies and they don't know much.

360  Other / Meta / Re: Benefits of earning merits? on: October 13, 2023, 06:06:58 PM
The primary purpose of introducing the Merit system by Theymos was to make the forum less spammy because when there was no Merit system, one could literally create an account, make a bunch of shit posts all around the forum and keep growing the rank and then sell the account and then create another one and repeat the process. Some even used to create and farm hundreds of accounts because there was no restriction on growing your rank as all it needed was for you to make at least a few posts every 14 days to qualify for the activity points which were the only requirement for ranking up before.
