Why isn't the difficulty history updated anymore?
It was updated manually, but then I decided to implement automatic update and not deployed it yet. Sorry about that.

my personal opinion is... our actual system is purposely flawed to hinder creativity.
The OP commented some pages back on some 10.000 dollars in fees that must be payed by the artists before producing a disc. Where are those money going ? Why they impose them on the artists ? Why the real artists only get a small percentage on the sales ? Lots more unanswered questions...

The thing is in this times will be very difficult to monetize on the distribution channel, so the real artists would have to find some ways to do it by cutting the "middle man" in the process and let people see in advance what are they paying for if they want to make a living on their creations too.

edit: man i wish jamendo accepted bitcoins

who you're talking to ? did you ever gave tech assistance to your relatives, close friends or other known ppl to them ?
if not pls don't post in here...

FYI i never install a distinct OS before prior knowledge of the owners and having them convinced it's a better alternative  Wink

@deepceleron got it, a copy of my addr.dat too
3588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Preinstalling bitcoin client on: November 08, 2011, 02:47:30 PM
This would be a good bitcoin.stackexchange.com question.

Do what deepceleron says... although you might want to copy JUST the two blk*.dat files (you don't need addr.dat or the database/ subdirectory).

ack on that  Cheesy

@jtimon yeah, my opinion is that you chose the wrong forum and thread, altogether, to propose that Undecided

About the forum, all bitcoiners are monetary reformists and many of them sympathize with ripple.
About the thread, I'm just proposing an implementation for the WoT that is described in the topic. That way the chain with WoT would also have Ripple.
Any disadvantage in my proposal that I don't see?

ok, i must have misunderstood the title myself... isn't about a way to store people reputation somehow ?
i didn't saw anything about paying with that... only bitcoins, transferable store of value not based on trust, different concepts i guess
3590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Preinstalling bitcoin client on: November 08, 2011, 12:30:15 PM
thanks deepceleron for the easy solution, i'm almost in the same situation as p4man here.
If we managed to spread the word on ubuntu why not bitcoin too

I don't have any interest getting ppl wallets only enabling them by default with a working software. They will send their bitcoins to me as a reward there's no need to dump reputation and trust that i've gathered over the years.
I passed a few unlucky episodes too and i was responsible, in their eyes, for malware, backdoors or viruses they had on those windows pc's too so now deb-ubuntu makes the life lot easier for all of us because they are not able to install rogue software without really knowing what they do.

Have you looked at the Ripple project and what they are working at recently?
http://ripple-project.org/

I understand the concept but haven't kept up with recent developments. As I see it, Ripple is only geared towards debt payment, it wouldn't help me much in assessing the safety of buying stuff from an anonymous seller. A WoT like bitcoin-otc does help a great deal in that department.

If you think ripple doesn't help you to safely buy stuff from an anonymous seller I think you haven't understood the concept.
You can pay with ripple. Ripple is a medium of exchange.
With ripple you could just use reputation as a currency.
For example, I give you 2 reputation points by paying you 2 units of currency I issue denominated in reputation points (or IOU 2 reputation points) and your web of trust can be represented within a ripple network.

so you're proposing we go back to a debt system again ? banks are based on reputation too...
3593  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 24 hour transaction? on: November 08, 2011, 02:00:31 AM
Virwox status says the transaction needs to be checked manually.

Then ask Virwox guys. Payment is probably pending there and wasn't sent to Bitcoin network yet.

Quote
Is this a normal time to wait

No, payments on Bitcoin network are almost instant.

Oh that's a relief lol, instant transactions sound a lot better, too bad I only have paypal. I sent them a message for now so hopefully that will clear things up thanks.

they manually check your first bitcoin transaction, it happened to me too, guess they do it because lots of paypal chargebacks lately
3594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin technology adapted into the voting system? on: November 08, 2011, 01:17:43 AM
and if we use a mining pool for every candidate party ?

the miners would vote with hashing power. Opening a web page with an included cpu miner and a drop-down menu where the person could choose the party would solve the voting for non-miners too. All this process could be done in a 24 hours time frame, or more, to have a reasonable view on the public opinion.

That non-MtGox version is how the MtGox version should look like - the biggest exchange has less than 50%.
mtgox is too big.
nice chart porn ppl  Cheesy , agree mtgox is too big
Valid viewpoint. But why? Why is the current situation with Mt. Gox' 80% market share less than optimal?

heh it's only a joke man related to mining, more than 51% into one pool Wink
it's actually good for an exchange
3599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: p2pBay on: November 07, 2011, 03:12:35 PM
Seriously, what is the deal with everything needing to be p2p? ...  Every single aspect of life cannot be anonymous and decentralized. sheesh.

True. Plus, it seems people here are not assessing priorities in a good way. There's no big issue with current e-bay-like markets. The biggest priority is exchanging bitcoin <-> fiat anonymously, IMHO.

If you want to dedicate hard work towards something, I'd say building a more anonymous and/or decentralized money exchange is where you should focus. There are some interesting ideas around here, like this and this, but all them need someone willing to do the hard work and to take the inherent risks, obviously.

same thing i'm proposing only use the same "wheel" not reinvent it, satoshi already did  Cheesy
3600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does the Bitcoin Community need? on: November 07, 2011, 01:01:01 PM
Maybe a p2pMarket based on it's own blockchain ? You will be the first to make one if you like the idea

Hmm, that actually sounds quite interesting. However I'm wondering what you mean exactly with basing it on it's own blockchain. Wouldn't a simple bitcoin-version of Ebay based on a web of trust (including user ratings) work?

Exactly, the programmer would use the blockchain database style for all back-end storage of information (namecoin for example) He can use standard JSON or anything he likes.
The heavy lifting would be done by the GUI by sorting and filtering of all kinds of info from the local blockchain (data example)
Can be a perfect copy of the actual OTC market with the only difference it's decentralized Wink
You can build lot of stuff around a working model of that... digital ID creation assisted by the software, public or private PGP chat, fees for every listing sent to the network to incentive ppl "mine the blockchain", you name it...
