Yet another control freak who needs to get over the Internet before it destroys him ....

I liked it when the forum allowed to change PseudoNyms ... that was neat, it stopped presumptions and flame wars continuing on across multiple threads because you never knew who was who exactly so just took the writings on their merits ... and anybody who likes to be identified with some daft pseudonym or another could equally keep their badge. Can we bring that back theymos?
It's all yours if you decide to donate 10 or more BTC to the forum.

If you need any help with setting up KVM on linux, HowToForge has this guide for setup and install on CentOS if you need any help:

http://www.howtoforge.com/virtualization-with-kvm-on-a-centos-6.2-server
Thanks, that looks like a good clear guide to follow.

Anyone want to sell me 18 AWG or better (preferably 16 AWG) 6-pin and 8-pin connectors? Chop them off of dead PSUs, or make them from parts from digi-key -  I don't feel like crimping all those terminals, but if the price is right I'll pay someone else to do it.
3623  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining rig extraordinaire - the Trenton BPX6806 18-slot PCIe backplane [PICS] on: April 13, 2012, 01:45:54 AM
Either that, or cut the backplanes and only leave the very top screw mount and the overhang (so it balances on the beam).
This is the part that I want to get fabricated, so I can keep the original brackets for resale. Unless someone wants to sell me a bunch of brackets? They could actually be from any reference card model, as long as it has the 2 screws at the top, since the rest would be getting chopped off.
3624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MintChip mentioned on theblaze.com on: April 13, 2012, 01:42:47 AM
Look up "mark of the beast" to know why needing a "chip" to exist in a society is a bad idea...
You believe that?

I believe giving any entity the ability to cancel your money would lead to bad things yes Smiley

I meant the beast part, but yeah.

That is a 13.8v PSU. And who knows what the efficiency would be.
EDIT: Also, if your dead PSUs have 18AWG or better connectors, I might buy them from you. (The connectors, not the PSUs)

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

says i am right and You're wrong about power consumption

stock is 294 watts , when mining at around 700mhash its 330-350 watts

but lets assume stock 294w x 4 = 1176 watts , hmmmmm, How You want to run all other components on 24 watts ???assuming 1200w psu will resist maxx load Smiley sorry but thats silly.

Mainly because the dork that put that info onto the wiki just read the box instead of measuring the actual current?
3628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] A public company will build a huge Bitcoin Mining Operation (ASIC). on: April 12, 2012, 06:54:12 PM
Nice April's Fool Vladimir!

I think this is true.

Nobody will be stupid enough to invest $1 into something like BTC mining. Not at this uncertain stage with the reward halving, anyway.

Come on, let's be realistic !
I've invested far more than $1.
3629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pre-order Bitcoin Magazine - Finalizing proofs for first issue on: April 12, 2012, 06:14:39 PM
RELEASE!

Let's organize a demo, fly to UK and demand the release of the magazine issue.  Smiley

What!? Hang on! I thought some customers already received their issues in the mail!?
Dammed, I paid for that just after reading that they did some week(s?) ago!
They were full of shit. Sorry.

Little display bug:

I created a new worker, and when I went to get the username for it, the box at the top-right of the page was missing a couple of characters. The username in the URL is correct, but it seems that the box have a display limit that doesn't show everything.

I'm using Opera 11.62.
I see the same in firefox.

"The email address linked to your account has been changed recently. Please retry later."

How long do I have to wait?? I need to send these coins asap
24 hours, sorry...
Did the page where you changed your email address not tell you that it would cause the delay?

Don't Bank On Digital Currency 'Bitcoin' Replacing The Dollar

What a nasty little piece of FUD this is:

It’s not just safety that has us concerned about Bitcoin, though. We’re also skeptical about how “decentralized” this digital currency can really be. Though the official wiki claims that the protocol is now mandated by community consensus, it’s impossible to ignore the power that the original developers have over the system.

They have a skeleton key that gives them control of the whole machine, any time they want.
diverting

Yeah, but isnt that true? Gavin Andresen and his other "trusted" developer have the power to implement any kind of backdoor in a coming update of the Bitcoin client and COULD just drain an arbitrary amount of bitcoins from the users, diverting them to their own adresses, or couldnt they?
Yeah sure, but so could anyone that feels like writing a virus and asking you to run it on your machine. The official client is scrutinized in every way all the time, and third parties often build binaries themselves to prove that nothing is wrong with the code. Any malicious code introduced would be pointed out quickly, and made known.

Additionally, this is the reason that there is NO automatic update facility in the official bitcoin client.

The Hazmat labels were hilarious, and the delivery guys were like "Nice- they label it hazardous but let us carry it around unprotected."
IRL trolling complements of the USPS. Win.
3635  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BFL Single Order Date/Ship Date on: April 12, 2012, 04:57:30 PM
Interesting, 4 hours after I received a shipping notice, I got an email with the subject "Your parcel is expecting of receiving", and a virus attached)
How come, spammers are hooked directly to PayPal/USPS systems?
I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
3636  Other / Off-topic / Re: We're almost certainly living in a simulation on: April 12, 2012, 04:49:49 PM
I just told my Ex-wife that this is just a simulation so I’m not sending the child support next month.  She told me her attorney specializes in simulated ass raping in court. Any ideas how I can get this program to crash before next month?

You just have to terminate your ex-wife process, easy peasy.
$ kill -9 ex-wife && ps aux | grep ex-wife
3637  Other / Off-topic / Re: Privacy, Google, browsers on: April 12, 2012, 02:35:21 PM
Yea, rjk "features"

Thanks herzmeister, that is really a wealth of information.  I'm glad people are compiling that list.

Hehe, sarcasm really doesn't travel well over the internet, sorry about that. Basically all the tracking and perma-cookie shit is removed.
3638  Other / Off-topic / Re: I visited BFL, any questions ? on: April 12, 2012, 02:31:50 PM
I will take you up on that bet, DT.  Absolutely. Order that single today and and show me a receipt of the order and we'll see on the 24th if you have one for free or not.

Will do.

Wait,

the one that orders has to be unknown to BFL, otherwise BFL could just send out a unit to show it can deliver.

Wink

spiccioli.
Yeah like it's going to say "DeathAndTaxes" on the shipping label heh.
3639  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BFL Single Order Date/Ship Date on: April 12, 2012, 01:32:20 PM
Is that table on the second page being updated still?

WOW. Those fans are incredible.

Sounds like a jetpack.

But, do they provide enough power so the air goes through all the cards and there are no hot spots ?
Short answer - yes.

Longer answer - I might have to do some fancy ducting to be sure that the air doesn't just blow over the top of the heatsink instead of through it, but for right now the sheer tornado force negates that into a non-issue. The issue will be when I turn them down to a reasonable level. Also, I don't want to mod the existing brackets and remove some resale value, so I'll need to see about getting some custom ones fabricated.
