then you say that or is it a bug in the pool
or are stealing
that's right?

No, it's virtually impossible for someone running a p2pool node to steal your coins. It's much easier for someone running a "real pool" to skim coins off the top. Maybe you missed my post above:
Quote
To both of the above posters, you have to mine on p2pool for 12-24 hours before you reach maximum reward. It ramps up slowly, and then you will continue receiving payouts for 12-24 hours after you stop mining. Just give it a day or so before you evaluate your reward and hashrate to other miners.

Looking at the graphs you posted, it looks like you haven't even been mining 12 hours. A dead hashrate of 5-10% is normal for p2pool, everyone has it so it evens out, just try and pick a pool close to you with low ping value to minimize it.

Supposedly scrypt-n asics shipping next week?

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-106

knc titan can do scrypt-n apparently:

The Titan was designed for several variants of the scrypt algorithm, including Scrypt-N. Titan's firmware is in continuous development and we'll update this space with new versions enabling new features as they become available.

at the end of september we should see lyra2RE. So the titans won`t help.

We'll see. The originally scheduled deployment date was end of Nov:
Quote
There is still much work to be done before we roll it out. Here is a approximate timeline:
Derive appropriate initial memory and cpu levels to roughly match the current level (8/15/2014)
Implement the new algo in all the wallets including mobile (10/15/2014)
Run final testing on testnet (11/15/2014)
Final release to mainnet (11/30/2014)
– These are estimates, we may move faster –
^from vertcoin.org

It would be nice if someone could update the OP with some of this info. I know it's available at vertcoin.org, but it makes us look like a little disorganized here on bitcointalk when the ANN page has out-of-date info and some dead links. There's not even enough traffic to estimate the number of visitors per day to vertcoin.org, and Alexa puts vertcoin.org's rank between 200,000-300,000, while btctalk is around the 3000th most popular site in the world. It's nice to have a dedicated site, but I imagine there is just orders of magnitude more page views here, so it would be nice if the info presented in the first post could be updated.

I wasn't really trying to troll (I guess it's just in my nature Tongue ), but I've never seen BitCrea post anything or chat on IRC. Just checked and saw that he/she is listed in the op, along with btc-mike (still). Also, I do own some bbr. Sorry for commenting and bumping the thread, please return to your regularly scheduled circle jerk.

btc-mike quit team, this doesnt look good anymore + messy thread and no real GPU info

If btc-mike quit the team, then it's not even a team anymore, right? Can you have a one-person team? That just sounds unfair (since a team implies competing versus other teams, who would presumably have more than one member).

Anyone in NYC want to go represent The Cypherfunks at this panel? We've been asked to represent.

I wish, sadly DFW is a bit too far away from NYC for me to make it :/

Thank you for this. Im playing around with it right now. Is it still profitable at this point in time?

No, I don't think so. However, Amazon offers a free micro instance for one year (which I use to run an IRC bot), and after a few weeks of usage they asked me to participate in a survey, which they gave me a $25 gift certificate for AWS for completing. So, if you can get a free $25 out of them, then it's totally worth it  Wink

(just make sure you run on spot instances, otherwise it's like 10x more expensive)
3769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero Support on: September 11, 2014, 02:46:25 AM
Why do you guys have so many different support topics and shill accounts here ?

Why do you have maxcoin in your signature? Why do the tides go in and out? No one can explain that.
3770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Now on Hitbtc.com on: September 11, 2014, 01:17:26 AM
For sure. Last time he posted here was back in July.  Like I said, their IRC channel is down. They also have a chat page on their site that looks blank right now. Hmm, I can at least see their channel on their site in IE. I'll see if anyone is alive there.

I don't think I've seen wildstrangething on IRC in like 3 or 4 weeks now. I used to use his pool, but seemed like it was devolving, and apparently still is. He told me he was a grad student in physics/engineering at very high ranking school, maybe he just doesn't have time to mess with it anymore.

Now I mine at the pool that hosts this comparison between all major and major minor pools Smiley http://minexmr.com/pools.html

Guys,

I use 3 sites to check variations on price, volume and market cap.
I understand the metrics used by coingecko and the ones used by coinmarketcap but couldn't find any reference to the metrics used by cryptmarketcap

Are you familiar with that site and/or do you know what metrics do they use to rank a coin?
Also, are you using any other site?

Cheers.

Looks like they just sort them by market cap, the same as coinmarketcap, except they don't list as many coins, so vert is up much higher  Roll Eyes
3772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [COINO] The Coin(O) Community Discussion thread on: September 10, 2014, 01:05:52 AM
Anyone know about these new markets added to poloniex:

Quote
We have added CoinoUSD (XUSD) markets. The value of XUSD is tied to USD, as XUSD can always be exchanged for USD here.

It's not related to this project, is it?
3773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 09, 2014, 12:52:35 PM
Monero is up for vote at coinpayments.net: https://www.coinpayments.net/vote

All proceeds go to Sean's Outpost.
3774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin - First Scrypt N | First Stealth Address - Privacy without mixer on: September 09, 2014, 12:41:47 PM
New (reincarnated) exchange https://cryptorush.in/ now trading vertcoin. I would advise to trade with caution, considering their history, however they are purportedly working to repay all debts owed to people from when the original owners got "hacked".

New owner KingDragon is pretty much always available at #cryptorush on freenode if you'd like to chat. If you had an account (and coins) on the original exchange, and you sign up with original email address (or file support ticket), you can see your balances from March when the shut down occurred.

Anyway, VTC market added yesterday, no trades yet, but I have a few coins for sale a bit under current market price, if you want to come make first market trade and buy my coins Smiley (or sell me some even cheaper Wink ).

Edit: Also, I have checked, and as of about a week ago both BTC and LTC withdrawals were functioning ok Wink
3775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 09, 2014, 03:05:25 AM
I still don't believe these lists or calculations of concentration by address (as opposed to owner) mean anything at all.

One big factor is how much of  the coin is at exchanges (i.e. many owners, few addresses). Bitcoin has the best developed infrastructure for thin wallets, mobile wallets, hardware wallets, paper wallets, cold storage, etc. and is also somewhat less dominated by speculative activity (virtually 100% of activity for most alts) so it stands to reason that less of it would be held at exchanges.

What would you suggest as a better metric? Obviously this analysis is not pertinent to cryptonote coins. Transactions per day? Volume on exchanges per day?
3776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 09, 2014, 02:10:19 AM
If you look at the top 10/100/1000 addresses

I've never believed these "top N" addresses things to be worth anything especially for coins with known questionable mining that are going to face scrutiny for it.. The first thing a scammer would do in that situation to try to get away with the instamine (after claiming it to be an accident) is move the coins around to a bunch of addresses and claim they've been redistributed so the instamine doesn't matter any more. As long as addresses are free these lists mean nothing.

That's a fair point, but it doesn't change the fact the over 70% of namecoins sit in 100 addresses, while that number is about 55% for vertcoin, 53% for litecoin, and less than 20% for bitcoin (the most widely distributed coin according to these metrics).
3777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 09, 2014, 01:37:43 AM
I coded a simple script which parsed this topic, boolberry, bytecoin, ducknote and darkcoin. Figured it would be interesting to see these results.

...

Notice the number of hero and legendary members? Darkcoin has 57 (2.23%) hero and 9 (0.35%) legendary versus Monero with 56 (3.94%) hero and 12 (0.85%) legendary. Percent wise monero has attracted more than twice legendary members and almost twice hero members.

In other words, it seems oldtimers gravitate towards monero/cryptonote and ignore darkcoin.

Wow, very neat! Thanks for scraping and parsing like a boss Smiley
3778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 09, 2014, 01:32:23 AM
The author of that guide is vicious in his exposé, and only lists 14 altcoins as being "acceptably mined" (of which Monero is one). Nonetheless, most savvy investors agree wholeheartedly with him and can't fault the facts he demonstrates.

While the site seems reasonable and well researched, I do take issue with some of their characterizations, particularly those with fastmines due to poor difficulty adjustment (litecoin and vertcoin are listed as questionable, with vert still teetering on the edge of extreme caution), while coins like boolberry and monero (which had a private miner supposedly raking in half of all blocks at one period, a fairly extended period for boolberry) or maxcoin (which also had a private miner and then hardforked to change block reward to a smaller amount several months after launch) are listed in acceptably mined currency section.

If you look at the top 10/100/1000 addresses on bitinfocharts.com for vertcoin, it has a far better/broader distribution than namecoin or terracoin (fairly mined currencies according to the site), and the stats aren't available for franko, maxcoin, potcoin, and most of the others listed as fairly mined on bitinfocharts.com, but I suspect since most of them failed to remain popular they are very concentrated amongst a few.

Also, the writer is obviously a proponent of devcoin (which he lists in an even higher category than fairly mined - it is an "ethical" coin) states:
Quote
Using the same SHA-256 algorithm, their model gives only 10% of mined coins to miners and the other 90% to the Devcoin foundation to split amongst web developers, writers, and other creative content producers.
So apparently it's "ethical" to keep 90% of all coins for the foundation to distribute as it pleases, but what amounts to a less than 10% of coins now for vertcoin (and constantly dropping) or less than 1% for litecoin lands them in the questionable category.

I have no issue with blackcoin and other superfast PoW then switch to PoS coins being listed in extreme caution category.
3779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCN] Cryptonite | 1st mini-blockchain coin | M7 PoW | No Premine on: September 09, 2014, 12:41:46 AM
What's the point of putting cryptonite on supernet? How are other coins going to take advantage of cryptonite's mini blockchain? I'm of the opinion that supernet is infeasible vaporware or possibly an outright scam, but willing to listen if someone could explain how other coins could use cryptonite's defining feature - the mini blockchain.
3780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin - First Scrypt N | First Stealth Address - Privacy without mixer on: September 08, 2014, 09:51:14 PM
What do you think to adapt Proof of capacity (PoC) which is included in burst coin. In few words you can mine with your hdd instead of GPU. No asics, very fair coin distribution, and less energy consumption. I need to dump all my vtc and i am all in in Burst coin now its revolution.

Mining with hard drives? why don't we just give all the coins to cloud based storage companies in the first block and then they can sell us the coins? it will be very fair, i promise.

lol, but seriously, I was just talking with someone who runs some small servers and they were talking about how they just got a petabyte of storage  Shocked
