381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 09, 2018, 08:14:31 PM
Are there any new information about the Chronobank aidrop? I was reading that XEM holders will profit from the airdrop but I could not found closer information. Is there a date released already?

This the only info I found
https://twitter.com/chronobanknews/status/939534692965146626?lang=en

This is the most recent announcement actually: https://blog.chronobank.io/chronobank-partners-with-nem-to-create-chrononem-wallet-eebdc176351d

There aren't too many details at the moment though.
382  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 09, 2018, 08:12:45 PM
it would be interesting to see actual numbers, maybe  who/how many people are getting promoted to a new rank, before to say blindly "it works" ?

See, you're assuming that the success metric here is how many people are getting promoted. That's not the metric at all. In fact, quite the opposite. The forum would do well by being more selective.

The previous criteria for rank promotion relied solely on quantity of posts, which led to way too much low quality discussion. With the Merit system, it has added a dimension of quality as well, so you need both quantity and quality.

The goal is definitely not to make sure as many people as possible are getting promoted. The goal is to encourage higher quality posts.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins worth buying on: February 09, 2018, 04:24:31 AM
No doubts, that this year will be "year of ETH", but as we all know, more we diversify more our funds are safe. To have funds safe put 20% in BTC, 30% in ETH and rest in random 5 coins from top10 marketcap. If anyone whant more, can put 10% in cheap new coins. (My favorite is Syscoin Wink ) That is my strategy.

That's all well and good, but I don't think a good investment strategy includes 'pick some random 5 coins in top 10 and put your money in there'. People need to do more research before buying.

Hi,

I am a NEM Fan and pretty much interested in the development of ICOs using NEM Blockchain. Is there a specific NEM ICO listing Website?

You can find all the project (including ICOs) here: https://github.com/Sateetje/ProjectsUsingNEM/blob/master/ProjectsUsingNEM.md

Thanks, that link is really useful for tracking. Merited!

Lunyr Update: We're starting to rank on the 1st page of Google for some keywords!

In the future, we expect to rank for MANY more popular keywords and phrases.

Let's do this! Cheesy

Dang, that's a very specific keyword, but still impressive! I can only imagine this will keep getting better.

387  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why did satoshi develop bitcoin in windows? on: February 07, 2018, 05:02:11 PM
You are trying to create a decentralized, censorship resistant, open source form of money, and you build it on top of a closed source operating system which is known for it's ties with three letter agency, hidden exploits, and all sorts of these bad things.

I find it weird that he would develop on windows. As far as I know, his first release was for windows only, and from what I've read, some code analysts claimed that he was a windows guy.

What is your take on this?

Cypherpunks code. It doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to work right. If Satoshi had experience with programming on Windows, it seems like the best way forward for the project. Don't sit here and judge his decisions a decade from when they were made.

No one knew what Bitcoin might even become back then, and there was every chance it would just fade away or disappear. It's a project Satoshi worked on without knowing the outcome. The best way forward was to get a working client out there, which he did.

You can sit and analyze every small decision but it's of no use. Sometimes you just got to make a decision. People forget Satoshi was still only human.

someone know what is going on on Bittrex, NEM-Wallet on Bittrex is offline since many days "Wallet-Offline Pending developer updates" . Are my NEM#s gone?
It's been that way since the Coincheck hack. I guess the exchanges want to be careful and try and track any movement of the stolen NEM. If the hacker wants out, exchanges are the easiest way to go in general.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: February 07, 2018, 07:23:11 AM
Interesting times in the market.

ICN is tanking again due to the current crypto crash. However ICN is tanking more than the market (P/B down to 0.5)...
They still hold around 10 million $ in cash (https://icnhodler.com/book-value). CCP has around 1M in euro as well.

What should they do?
- Use the cash to buy BTC, ETH or ICN?
- Use the cash and their other cryptos (BTC, ETH...) to buy more ICN tokens (currently undervalued)?
- Wait to see how this all plays out?

Imo they should be buying stuff with their cash. Current market is a buy opportunity.

Your P/B is incorrect. Their Book Value would have fallen with the bear market. You're using the last reported book value, which isn't current. Remember, markets are forward looking, not backward looking.

The ICN volatility isn't something new. We've generally seen that ICN falls much more than both BTC and ETH during bear markets.

If the team has cash, in general, they should be using it to buy back and burn more ICN. However, perhaps they need that money to pay salaries. This can be the biggest expense and what drastically reduces value to ICN holders.

Hey Cardstack Fans!!

Check out Chris Tse's latest video:

The Blockchain World Needs a Unifying Layer — Cardstack Founder Chris Tse

"If we want to decentralize the Internet, we must build a unifying experience layer for blockchain."

Enjoy! And don't forget to follow us on Twitter and join us on the Telegram Group to ask any questions you may have about the project.

That seems like a good overview. Is there any longer interview/in-depth with Chris somewhere? I find it useful to go through founder interviews to get a sense of their thinking and where they see their product fit the ecosystem.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 07, 2018, 07:16:05 AM
And more than 90 percent of all coins are very dependent on the bitcoin rate. This coin is also not an exception to the rules. And in general, the coin is not bad.

This state of affairs already really worries everyone. No one knows what can be done about it. How to relieve the total dependence of all altcoins on bitcoin?

It's similar to the stock market when the bears take over. Whenever the crypto-bears take over nearly every coin will drop.
Besides that a correction was really overdue given the insane rise within the last few months.

Furthermore, I guess in a few years bitcoin won't be the number one anymore (maybe ethereum, or NEM  Cheesy Tongue) but this will not change the bull/bear effect.

To get rid of the dependence of the bitcoin price is unequivocal. That's just who will replace it in the market. There is no stable guarantor that could satisfy our needs.

As long as sentiment drives the market, and the overall sentiment of crypto is gauged by Bitcoin, there is no escaping its shadow. It isn't necessarily a bad thing though. Bitcoin usually leads the way, and then people introduced to the space look at other projects. I would much rather that say institutional investors be able to hold NEM, for instance. That won't happen without Bitcoin leading the way first.

The price isn't determined by Bitcoin per se. Remember NEM outperformed Bitcoin last year, for example. However, the market sentiment is driven by Bitcoin. End of the day, NEM has to stand on its own feet, good and bad. Yes there will be volatility, but as long as people and projects are using the NEM blockchain and find utility in it, it should hold up its value. If not, it won't retain its value. Bitcoin can only do so much, up or down.

To combat some of the lower quality content promotion posts, several campaign managers have instituted a 'vip tier' with pre-vetted outlets. Is this something you're doing with your bounty campaigns?
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | STRATIS | The first blockchain developed for businesses |Full POS on: February 07, 2018, 03:24:18 AM
I would say Hodl and don't expect deadlines to be accomplished. As far as i know that the ICO funds were already used, so expect that the development process would be slow and they have achieved most of the goals in last year. It would be better if the community can help the project by waiting patiently and don't expect quick profits within months.

We don't know anything about the state of the ICO funds raised. If they kept those in Bitcoin, and kept their burn reasonable, they would have a lot of money even now. They raised close to 1000 BTC, after all. Also, if the Stratis team is doing blockchain consultancy work on the side as well, that should bring in some good amount of cash flow as well.

It is also an open source project, so ultimately there are other developers who are working on the project as well, not just the Stratis team.

They should have enough fund, but I think their fund is not unlocked to them because their milestone is not fully completed. But they have fund in STRAT.
Do you have a source for that or are you just speculating? I don't think the ICO funds were milestone based.

We are pleased to announce our ICO metrics: https://gluon.com/gluon-ico-metrics/

IMO 45M$ is a bit high because this is bear market, btw, how much will they raise from STRAT? It seems STRAT is only one currency supported.

In this market, I'd agree with you. May reflect poorly on Stratis by association if they spectacularly fail to reach their goal. Do they have any pre-commitments from investors lined up to invest?
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 06, 2018, 05:47:41 AM
If Catapult was ready tomorrow, they should hold it back. This would be the worst possible time to release it and would be a non-event. The fact is if bitcoin doesn't mount a recovery (over 10k would do), the whole crypto scene will be in the doghouse for another year at least.

There's no way they'd hold it off for months purely to excite traders. That's never been how they drop things. It'll happen when it's ready and not before or after.

I agree, besides if catapult gets released in the middle of this bear market it will show that NEM has serious fundamentals and will give us an early boost before the bulls get going again.
That would definitely be interesting to watch. There isn't a fixed date for Catapult's release yet is there?
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 05, 2018, 11:52:31 PM
So when is Catapult going to be released (for public). It's been over a year now. Before 4k tps seems a lot, but now you hear 1 million tps  Grin i think NEM missed that boat. I'm still a believer, but having that hack is a sh***y PR that is not needed. We need catapult now. We hear NDA's are signed so no one can talk about what is being tested (i totally understand), Just curious to know how many company's signed NDA's, I want to know if there are actually a lot of companies trying out NEM Tech.

I don't think it will matter one bit with the market the way it is right now.
With btc dragging everything down NEM could announce some major partnership and it wouldn't amount to anything because of the overall market being in the toilet.

Best to wait until things improve and hopefully they can capitalize on the rebound.

Yes the tide right now isn’t good. Endless regulatatory headlines.

Amazing how the government won’t provide healthcare, education, basic services-you’re on your own for that but suddenly they want to “protect” you in crypto.

I really don’t mind a selloff if it’s a healthy correction but my obvious worry is that after a pounding of this magnitude things may not recover for a long time (twice bitten etc etc). What does everyone think?

I think you might be right about the prices being depressed for a while, which I guess is depressing LOL. The problem with the last price spike may have been that it happened too quickly, and I hear about people mortgaging their properties and such to get in, which is always bad news, the classic signs of a bubble. When price goes up fast, it can fall just as quickly.

I'd like to see a recovery, and if you follow the NEM News telegram channel, for every bit of bad news, there's five or six good news items so NEM really is continuing to truck along, so I have no doubt a price recovery is in the future. I'd just like to see it happen more slowly. A nice, steady increase of one or two cents a day, with long periods of the price staying the same, would be perfect for me. That gives people lots of chances to buy in, and those who need to sell for any reason can count on getting a decent deal. That's what you want in a coin. Stability with a general trend upwards.

To really get there, I think we're going to need to see some XEM/fiat direct markets open up. As long as any coin has to go through Bitcoin, then it's going to be stuck rising and falling with Bitcoin, and that really stinks, to be honest.

The problem though is crypto is inherently going to be very volatile no matter how you cut it. Sure, it would be nice to see 1-2 cent growth a day for a while, but that's just not how things work.

Especially a coin like NEM, which has a limited supply without new coins being created, the price is driven purely by demand and supply, i.e. if the price increases, there is no way to somehow go and 'get more NEM' which would curb the enthusiasm. This means it is pure animal spirits in either direction, up and down.

The other thing is, the fortunes of NEM and other cryptos are pretty correlated with each other. This means things happening outside of the NEM ecosystem can have a significant effect on the price.

https://medium.com/cardstack/announcing-the-cardstack-token-generation-event-b694fa04c5a6

Hey guys check out this article on Cardstack's Token Generation event.

I like that regular open source projects will be able to claim some CARD tokens by linking their ETH address to their Github repo. Maybe this should be publicized more - I am afraid only a few will do so, and the % reserved for them will concentrate in the hands of a few not-very-worthy projects because all the good ones never knew about this.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 04, 2018, 02:17:38 AM
do know what happened to huge amount stolen from coincheck xem? are the stolen coin addresses available? Have the coins already been dropped on exchanges?

All funds are traceable and NEM foundation is marking all accounts with the stolen funds.
only about 1100 XEM has been moved around AFAIK, and no XEM has been moved to any exchanges yet.

I think the thieves will have a very difficult time cashing out. Five percent of the entire NEM supply has been effectively taken out of circulation. I mean, it can technically "circulate," but it's tainted.

My guess is the exchange and hacker will reach some kind of settlement with regards to this stolen NEM. Seems like an impasse at the moment, but perhaps there are talks going on that aren't public already.

If this would happen the exchange would become liable of complicity in the theft and guilty of money laundering. I think both the team AND police should continuosly track the stolen NEM and be ready to intervene as soon as some owner of wallet where the coin move can be identified.
That's not how complicity works mate. If it isn't an inside job, it makes sense to try and negotiate something, since it reduces cost and risk to both the parties. What police would track this internationally over the internet? You do realize that the hacker doesn't have to be in the same jurisdiction as the exchange right?
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 04, 2018, 12:44:28 AM
At this point a crop of ICOs taking XEM is not necessarily good news. The XEM market is far too thin to support more than a handful. If it ever got to ETH's ICO mania you'd better pray for 50x the volume or the entire thing would be squashed flatter than a micron.

It cuts both ways though. If there's more demand for XEM, then its volume will increase. That demand could come from ICOs or other places. It is unlikely to get ETH's level of ICO mania though, but a few good projects on XEM can attract other more ambitious ICOs.
