42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BCH, accessing them with bitcoin keys? on: May 05, 2024, 09:47:14 PM
It shows that bitcoin was never meant to be something that was built for profit.  However true this is, if coins are moved what are the implications?
I don't think Satoshi is ever going to move their coins, and even if Satoshi does move coins, it would not change people's idea of what bitcoin is to them or what they want to use it for. That being said, there would be implications on the price of bitcoin if Satoshi's coins move, there would be a lot of uncertainties surrounding why Satoshi moved their coins and it will make many people sell off and the price will fall.
And if one person holds coins in bitcoin before 2017 doesn't the same person hold coins in BCH?
Yes, if you join the new chain and claim the forked coins.
43  Economy / Economics / Re: Ever dreamt of turning your passion into profit? on: May 05, 2024, 09:00:01 PM
I think it is very common for people to have the thought or belief of turning their passion into something that would be profitble for them and earn them money, but just like a lot of us have found out, things do not always work out in that way. My hobby is playing football and i always had that dream to play football professionally, but it didn't work out in that way for me and somewhere along the line i chose a different career path, and i don't have any regrets, i still play though, but solely as a hobby right now.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Research crypto exchanges on: May 05, 2024, 07:55:33 PM
For my hobby of blockchain research, which may become a business
How can this become a business, there are already enough blockchain explorers that people can find some of this data on, and i don't think too many will have the same hobby as you, looking for addresses of centralized exchanges.
I am sure that I'll find like-minded and interested people on the forum Roll Eyes
I wish you luck on that, even though i doubt it that people would waste their time on something like this, maybe it is time to get a productive hobby.
45  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy BTC sold for 16 BTC-1 mil USD on: May 05, 2024, 06:43:10 PM
For me, I think what is crazy is not the epic sat but that piece of paper there called "buy bitcoin". In my opinion, it's not that even rare and anyone can do that. Sometimes I don't understand what is happening here in the world or with the people, lol.
It is not everyday that a "Buy bitcoin" sign is flashed in the U.S congress when the Federal Reserve chair is giving a speech, that is what makes it unique and there is no such paper like it in the world, that is why it is rare. Mind you that i would not spend anything close to this amount for this, but maybe i cannot be sure about that as i am not as rich as the BTC whale who bought it, it is better to talk about certain decisions when you actually can afford it. Grin
46  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Most P2P occured on WhatsApp, Telegram and everywhere on the streets on: May 05, 2024, 06:18:39 PM
If the Nigeria government is wise they could take advantage of cryptocurrency operations in the country create a working policy that is crypto friendly and rake profits from it as taxes than act villain as though cryptocurrency is the main cause of the naira devaluation
E dey very clear now that our government no fit dey friendly to crypto, though dem never officially ban crypto for Nigeria, but i would not be surprised if that is the next thing they would do.

Naija na the first country wey i don see wey dey blame crypto for their bad economic situation, it just feels like the government is looking for scapegoats and they found one with cryptocurrency and its users. That being said, Nigerians dey very good at fighting through barriers, so i think we would still overcome this one.
47  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Role of Proof of Reserves in Crypto Exchange Transparency on: May 04, 2024, 07:52:21 PM
Do you think it should be a mandatory requirement for all exchanges to undergo regular third-party audits and provide publicly verifiable proof of their reserves?
I don't care, i do not keep my assets on any centralized exchange and you also shouldn't.

Proof of reserves can be manipulated, and mind you that poof of reserves makes no sense when you don't actually know how much the exchange owes in liabilities and they are not going to give you the information on the amount of customers assets that they hodl. Don't trust any centralized exchange, no matter how they try to prove that your money is safe with them, use your non-custodial wallet and control your assets.
48  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Most P2P occured on WhatsApp, Telegram and everywhere on the streets on: May 04, 2024, 04:12:28 PM
E get many vendors wey i know and dem dey trade on whatsapp, some of them even have their websites (not big local exchanges), and they also trade a lot of coins there. If you dey watch comedy skits for Naija, you go see all these our comedians dey advertise different agents/vendors wey you fit trade gift card, bitcoin and different other assets, so it is true that there is a lot of trading going on outside of crypto exchanges, but the figures might have been exaggerated by Ray.

That being said, e no dey safe to trade on social media platforms, vendor fit carry your money run oh, that is the risk when you trade in this way, and that is why a lot of us here choose global exchanges.
49  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion for new information in poster info on: May 04, 2024, 03:36:10 PM
It would be nice to have a notice near the name if the user has not logged in a while.  i.e: (Inactive for 6 days).  Could just be for newbies, or for every topic starter.
Even if this is implemented and a notice is added, it wouldn't still stop users who want to reply to that topic from doing so, thus it does not change anything.
Even so, if the question raised by the OP is somewhat coherent, despite him having "disappeared", it remains a question that deserves an answer.
Correct, particularly if there is a new information to add to the topic or if there are wrong and misleading ideas in the thread that needs to be corrected.
50  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: OKX has stopped its p2p service for Nigerian customers on: May 03, 2024, 10:56:16 PM
Since e don dey obvious say govt want shut down crypto currency activities for Naija. As a great leader wey you be 4 diz forum,Wetin go be your advice to your fellow bitcoiners as d matter don be like diz.so that make person no com fall victim for diz our wicked govt hands.
Make we dey calm for now, no rush go sell all your coins because say our government don dey very hostile to crypto. Some centralized exchanges still dey allow crypto to Naira trade on their platform, wetin dey fear me pass for now be say our government don instruct banks to block accounts of any user who is involved in crypto transactions and to expose their personal info to them.

That being said, make everybody begin learn how to trade in decentralized exchanges, because that could be the only option pretty soon, but even then the fear would be that we don't get our accounts blocked one day, but it will be hard for them to prove that you were involved in a crypto transaction.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solana price predictions and developement? on: May 03, 2024, 03:02:15 PM
So i think we see 7000$ price because supply and demand but even that much gain it's not life Changing gain
Be realistic with your predictions, Solana cannot rise as high as this and i am pretty sure you know that. You are hodling Solana and i get it that you want to hype the coin up and maybe attract more people to it, fair enough, but people know better these days. Cheesy
Are you fan of solana ? Im big fan of solana i think it's the best chain i want to invest more into.
It is also not uncommon to see Solana users complain of bugs and "transaction failures" in the network, so maybe you should be careful of how much you are hyping this coin.
52  Other / Meta / Re: I want to compile information of proposed additions to the bitcointalk.org forum on: May 03, 2024, 02:46:12 PM
If you want to make a compilation of proposed additions to the forum, then i am afraid you have to do the research yourself and post it here, i don't really know what purpose it will serve, but if it is something you want to do, then go ahead and do it.
What are some of the most famous proposed changes that got accepted?
2FA added
Identifying the OP at a glance
Oh, yea for sure. It's clear no one wants or needs a BTC wallet here. To me, it feels as if it is out of respect to satoshi, which I think is sweet. Doing something out of respect to the Founder is something that is commonplace in many changes with bitcointalk.org and bitcoin itself.
It feels like the opposite to me, how are you respecting the founder when you are using bitcoin in a way that is different from what they envisaged.
53  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Would you still use Patricia after recent events? on: May 03, 2024, 01:45:20 PM
With all this things wey don happen, you go fit trust local exchanges? And wetin this one mean for other exchanges wey dey come up?
E dey inevitable say very soon Patricia go shut down completely, dem don deny the rumor say dem never shut down and it could be true that they are still operating right now, but in a short time to come, they will shut down. They have lost customer trust, and business wey no get customer go close na, it is a natural thing.

Global exchanges dey better, but if a local exchange comes up in the future and shows the Nigerian crypto community that they offer a good service, we go support dem, so i no go fit talk say make we no trust local exchanges. Wetin i go talk be say make nobody keep money for any exchange, whether na global or na local.
54  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy BTC sold for 16 BTC-1 mil USD on: May 03, 2024, 12:19:01 PM
My problem with this "epic sat" being auctioned and sold for 33.3 bitcoin is that it tends to make people believe that bitcoin is non-fungible when indeed it is fungible, this sat now has a different value and can no longer be interchanged with another sat of equal value, when ordinarily it should.

I don't have a problem when things like the "buy bitcoin" paper is being auctioned, of course it is non-fungible and there is something that makes it unique and differentiates it from other pieces of paper or similar writings on them, but bitcoin as a currency is fungible and any utxo should be interchangeable with another one of the same value.
55  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: OKX has stopped its p2p service for Nigerian customers on: May 03, 2024, 10:15:14 AM
Actually this changes was probably done today because I still remember doing p2p there yesterday.
Yes, this morning, the news is not everywhere yet, but you can find it on Twitter. So many people were trying to trade crypto for Naira on OKX this morning, but they found out that they couldn't do so, after inquiring about it in OKX's official "Help Desk" page, they got the information i posted in the OP.
We have incompetent government and regulators. They should continue to tackle their incompetence in a wrong way.
So incompetent, our government no know wetin dem dey do, and it is very typical of them to go after things that are not the cause of the actual problem.
56  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / OKX has stopped its p2p service for Nigerian customers on: May 03, 2024, 09:50:13 AM
If you are an OKX user here, you must have found out by now that you can no longer trade crypto for Naira in that platform. E be like say our government don secretly warn this platform and told them to stop offering trading in Naira for Nigerians. First it was Binance, now it is OKX, i dey believe say very soon trading in Naira in centralized exchanges no go dey possible again.

E be like say the fight against crypto by our government no go stop anytime soon, so e better make everybody begin protect themselves and their funds, they might start blocking bank accounts at the slightest suspicion of any involvement in crypto transactions.
57  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Workers Salary Increases, Inflation at Upper Edge on: May 02, 2024, 09:31:22 PM
A. Do you think the increase in salary structure of all government workers will not lead to more higher inflation level than we already had.
Why should it, workers in Nigeria are underpaid and they should be earning far more than what they earn, the Nations minimum wage also has to be increased. The salary raise is a welcome development, but not so great; for example if we go with 25%, then it means someone who was earning a N100,000 now earns N125,000, this is an insignificant amount if you factor in our current economic realities.

That being said, e get crucial areas of our economy that needs sorting out to tackle inflation. Refinery wey dem say go begin work, we never still see anything. We suppose also cut down on government expenditure and also support local businesses/macro economics, etc. No be salary raise dey cause inflation na, it is our terrible policies/bad decision making.
58  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet Help on: May 02, 2024, 09:12:23 PM
Well I have no idea about those wallet you just mentioned, but as long as we have our personal decision I think the choice is yours, if you choose to move your assets to new wallet I think is a nice idea, but I most say I have no idea about those wallet,I think you should try and read threads of high ranked members, I guess you can get opinion from them.
If you had read through the thread, and not just reading the OP alone and replying to it, you would have had a little understanding about the wallets mentioned in the OP. A handful of users in this topic have said something about both bitcoin core and Ledger hardware wallet, which are the two wallets the OP mentioned, but you didn't read their post. If you don't read through threads how are you going to learn and have an idea about things like this.
59  Other / Meta / Re: [LIST] Forum's admins/ global moderators/ staffs on: May 02, 2024, 08:04:03 PM
This should show those applying for a local board or merit source that theymos checks the data and will act accordingly when he feels the need has arisen for any such change.
Yes, i believe so too, but waiting for Theymos to act can be really frustrating most times, particularly when the changes are long overdue. Congratulations Igebotz, i am pretty sure you'd make a great moderator for our local section and keep it clean, now that our activity has increased greatly.
60  Economy / Economics / Re: Surviving in this economy needs a new minds set on: May 02, 2024, 06:22:24 PM
Investing in crypto currencies like Bitcoin is not a bad idea at all
How does bitcoin come into this and how is it going to improve the economic situation of your country. So many of you do not really understand what bitcoin is, it is not a panacea to the world's problems; it is just a decentralized currency that hasn't even been massively adopted around the world.

If you want a better economic situation for yourself, then your nation should elect good/competent leaders. Take your time to also better your own chances of success by learning new skills, taking up extra jobs and learning how to earn money from different sources.
