401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 03, 2018, 07:05:19 PM
do know what happened to huge amount stolen from coincheck xem? are the stolen coin addresses available? Have the coins already been dropped on exchanges?

All funds are traceable and NEM foundation is marking all accounts with the stolen funds.
only about 1100 XEM has been moved around AFAIK, and no XEM has been moved to any exchanges yet.

I think the thieves will have a very difficult time cashing out. Five percent of the entire NEM supply has been effectively taken out of circulation. I mean, it can technically "circulate," but it's tainted.

My guess is the exchange and hacker will reach some kind of settlement with regards to this stolen NEM. Seems like an impasse at the moment, but perhaps there are talks going on that aren't public already.

Very possible, that sort of thing would not be disclosed at this time.
Yeah. And for the people new to crypto-land, the precedence here was set by NXT when a hacker stole a bunch from BTER. https://www.ccn.com/fifty-million-nxt-stolen-bter-cryptocurrency-exchange-ransomed-hacker/. They seem to have negotiated a fee of 100 BTC and the hacker returned the NXT to the exchange. It is possible that a similar scenario might unfold here. It would seem to be in everyone's best interest if such a thing happens though - the hacker can get some reward (call is a 'security bounty') and the exchange gets its crypto back.

Really depends on if its an inside job or not i guess?

I suspect someone inside the company may have had access.
Still blows me away that they kept that much funds in one hot wallet.
At least 300M XEM was theirs that they bought in 2016 also. Dunno why that even needed to be in the same wallet.

Yeah, you're right.

I bet it's all just inertia. They implemented a system that appeared to work, and they never bothered to change it even as the price and thus the total value of funds held by 10x 100x etc. Definitely goes against all best practices in the ecosystem.

This Bitcoinforks are going out of hands...
As long as they're not outright scams e.g. with wallet malwares, it's 'free' money. Just convert your BTC2 into BTC as soon as you're able to

When will masternode have official release? I am waiting for it, hope this scheme will make Stratis as good as dash.

Should be soon, and the price of STRAT will soar definitely, I am confident about the price.
There are no definitives for short-term crypto prices.

Is this the ERC20 coin?
No, the OP said it's a fork of Bitcoin, so it's supposed to be its own blockchain

407  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 03, 2018, 01:34:31 AM
For the past one hour, I've been checking the merit points sent and received by various members. To sum it up, it's more on a popularity contest. The more famous you are, the more merits you'll have.
You're forgetting why certain members are more popular than others. Usually, it's because they have something worthwhile to say, so of course they'll get more merits. An unknown newbie with something worthwhile to say will also receive merits, and they may even become popular, given time.
Yeah exactly. OP, way to miss the correlation there. Also, many 'popular' members have made their merit giving criteria public, and follow that.
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 02, 2018, 07:26:08 AM
all markets are down anyway, nothing to worry about.

You’re awfully relaxed

Any more news or is it just India etc

There's nothing to do except be awfully relaxed. This is crypto. It goes up, it goes down. Funny you never asked why things went up 10x-100x last year.
409  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 01, 2018, 11:34:38 PM
Maybe make contests with merit? One who expresses an opinion in your own words, can gain merit. You can create a separate topic. The forum participants will give their predictions and claim the reward. What do you think? Thank you for your opinion.
You want us to run a prediction and betting marketplace on Bitcointalk to be rewarded in Merit?
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 01, 2018, 11:33:16 PM
Since of jobs reasons I have not been able to follow all the news and developments of NEM over the last weeks. The price has dropped a lot along with many other coins. Why can't NEM stay stable against the trend? There are good news and NEM is a good alternative to the problematic traits of Ethereum.

mate, just relax, all markets are down, last year we hit 30c and got dumped like the rest back to 9c.

Lots of good news on crypto, just lots of FUD along with it.

Korea claims no crypto ban is happening, so good news.  Smiley
Hah yeah exactly. NEM was one of the best performing cryptos of 2017, it is no surprise that it would see a pullback sometime. It tends to be a little more volatile than the market, so it goes down more during downtrends but also rises more during the uptrends.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: February 01, 2018, 11:31:25 PM
Great q4 for iconomi. Still undervalued as shit
The good thing with the market mechanism is that if you disagree with the market, go on a limb and buy now, to reap rewards later.
412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 01, 2018, 09:15:39 PM
Doesn't seem like the government said anything about banning crypto in the announcement. Another case of poorly interpreting these.

Don't knock it. We got a totally awesome pump off that horrifically warped Wechat news.
Hah yeah I remember that. Unfortunately, the human tendency is always to give more weight to the negative news than positive. I'd much rather people here make informed buy and sell decisions, and not based on unsubstantiated rumours or blatantly false stories.

The hits just keep coming...India today. Seems like a poor interpretation of India’s stance too.

414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | STRATIS | The first blockchain developed for businesses |Full POS on: February 01, 2018, 01:31:47 AM
Interesting developing is what going on in Stratis lately. Partnering with GluOn in San Francisco and just recently Beyond Global in China are good signs that Stratis ICO platform will see in action soon.

Already that's a great start. Od the team can make ot even more simpler and efficient (no bottlenecks!) to host or participate in icos. Even 10% of the icos running on icos uses Stratis, It would go boom.
I have long admired STRAT from the beginning, development and berpatner some companies that they now do is a good idea... i estimate there will be PUMPs in the next few weeks so if you are loyal and trust STRAT for the future support and save some STRAT for the future will be good and profitable  Wink

Stratis needs to explain why this is good for the Stratis token. It is good for Stratis the business, but what does it mean for the token?  Huh

It's the adoption of the Stratis platform by different businesses. Adoption is good for the long-term. The token sale would happen in the Stratis token, and the token will live on the Stratis blockchain (as a sidechain I presume?)

I think you are right. I also think this is very powerful. I just wish someone would spell this all out.

Why wouldn't Stratis spell these amazing facts out for people???  Huh    Huh   Huh

What specifically do you want the team to do? Isn't it kinda obvious that the more adoption a blockchain gets, the better it is for its usage?

The hunt for the NEM thieves continues, the stolen NEM is being transferred from account to account but not appearing on any exchange yet, let's hope this end badly for the perps.

https://www.coindesk.com/nem-foundation-refutes-exchange-news/

It's a game of cat and mouse. Definitely interesting to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if there are private talks with the hacker at some point, where the exchange pays a 'bounty' for security and the hacker returns the funds. It seems like a very high risk endeavor for the hacker now to try to cash this out.
417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | STRATIS | The first blockchain developed for businesses |Full POS on: January 31, 2018, 05:08:05 AM
Good time to pick more stratis up, it is extremely cheap right now, I am buying more.
Buy, Stake, and Forget Wink

I guess the panic caused by the NEM stealth is over now?
I just accumulated bulks of NEM, hope it will pump a lot once the market recovers.
That panic was short lived. It is falling now along with the broader market.
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: January 30, 2018, 05:46:23 AM
Even crypto n00b knows that  large sum must be stored in the cold one.

Unfortunately there are always people saying that it is safe enough to keep the coins on exchanges, I have recently responded to such a guy ... a Full Member, nearly Senior Member!:

xenon131, I just saw you are one of us unfortunates who was just about to reach the next rank and will probably need a few weeks or months longer due to the new Merit system.  Roll Eyes
Storing on exchanges is terrible advice, especially for proof of stake coins like NEM. You can be secure AND earn some NEM storing it in your own Nano Wallet/Ledger.
420  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 29, 2018, 06:07:03 PM
Huh, new system. Seems pretty complicated to rank up at the moment, considering how "valuable" merit points are right now. Oh well, I'm not one to talk, who doesn't like collecting fake internet points/karma/merits/likes....
You don't really need to 'collect' the points - the hope is the points follow quality.
