401  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 🌌How to put emojis on the messages? on: February 03, 2024, 11:30:06 AM
If you're posting from a phone, check your keyboard. Those emojis there that you use for Whatsapp and other chat apps can also be easily used here by tapping on them where typing to post here. I mostly use them, rather than the custom built ones for the forum. Press hard on the tab displaying an emoji symbol to display the various emojis and then select what you want. Try it and thank me later 😏
402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much Did you like this forum on: February 03, 2024, 10:51:15 AM
...need any Course To widen My horizon that I should just join this forum that anything  relating To bitcoin And crypto currency is discussed here in details , I Was not Too certain with his explanantion till the day that I joined the forum...
Now you know how right your friend was, and that's true. This forum is peopled with great crypto minds. A few of these people own crypto projects and businesses. Some of the popular names in Bitcoin and the entire crypto space have passed through this forum, though they may not be actively posting now. So, you can guess the level of knowledge that's deposited and exchanged here on a daily basis.

On how much I like this forum? Well, that assessment can't be quantified in the true sense of worth. This is the ultimate SM place for me. I've learnt so much here than in any other forum. Here is the reason I have learned how to protect myself in this space.
403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin still fork and do exchanges still keep the forks? on: February 03, 2024, 06:08:21 AM
...But, I don't know about exchanges if they kept the forked coins of their users or not. But, if they did, that is something unethical.
That would be preposterous to expect criminal exchanges to keep forked coins of users. I witnessed both forks for BCH and BSV, though with the eyes of a novice then. The noise preceding those events was as if Bitcoin was going to die off once the hard forks happened. It was crazy and those who had their Bitcoin in selected private wallets (and exchanges, I can't be sure anymore) got airdropped the forked coins. It was free money for so many people. Many exchanges profited from that by withholding those forked coins of customers that couldn't withdraw on time to private wallets to enable them claim. That event was an eye opener for so may people. It's the same thing with those who send exchange addresses for staking certain tokens to claim airdrops. That's not a good idea. Use private wallets.
404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 📢 ₿ Bitcoin will replace Dollar? Even celeb venture capitalists are saying this on: February 02, 2024, 10:45:06 PM
No matter how a maximalist anyone wants to be, once they touch on the issue of Bitcoin replacing dollar/fiat, I lose confidence in them. Don't get me wrong. I want to see Bitcoin grow to the point of mass adoption (I believe most of us here want that too) but we've to face reality of that replacement never ever going to happen. In some of my previous posts on this issue, I had stated reasons that wouldn't make that happen.

As for Tim Cook, his $250k prediction of Bitcoin for 2022 was off the mark. Come to think of it, didn't he know that 2022 was supposed to be a bear year? But of course, that was what it was supposed to be. It's the same way most of us know that 2026 will also be another bear year. How would he then put a prediction for such a price level that year? He could've said 2021 or 2025 and then we see what happens next. It shows how reckless he's with his predictions and comments. No one should trust everything Tim says without verification even if it gets them excited.
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be stolen? on: February 02, 2024, 08:17:23 PM
In 2019, he made a mistake by transferring a small amount of stolen bitcoin to a cryptocurrency exchange that followed know-your-customer rules. The IRS's criminal investigation division then tracked him down.
Source link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Zhong#
That was an Achilles heels and deservedly so for him. Criminals shouldn't have a resting place. Karma should continue to deal ruthlessly with them for the pains they cause others. How he was exposed shows that despite how far they (criminals) think they've run, they can't be too far from the hand of the law.

Quote
So now the question is bitcoin safe from hackers?, can it be stolen?
Anything worth its salt can be stolen. Bitcoin is a hot Cake. It's not only stolen; its hodlers can also be killed for not releasing access to their wallets when attacked. Stories of such are ubiquitous.
406  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Which one dey pain pass? on: February 02, 2024, 04:52:15 PM
I no say many people don experience those mistakes before wen dey lack d cryptocurrency knowledge before dem became wise not to expose their seeds phrase to people or not to send coins to wrong address wen their face is not too clean like wen sleep still dey your face or in d early morning were some users use to do d mistake.
The first thing wey I dey tell anybody wey I dey mentor for dis space na NEVER to expose dem seedphrase or password even if na me later ask dem for it. So, dat wan supposed tell dem how secured dem supposed keep am. D issue of sending to wrong address don happen to me once but na to CA (contract address) I send am to and almost immediately d coin bounced back. My heartbeat dat day nor be small because the money big small. D other time wey e for happen to be for be like dat malware thing wey dey change copied address but I soji myself. I try as much as I can to run my eyes through address before I send out to make sure sey na wetin I paste I dey send to. Na so I take escape dat day be dat.

Of d two things wey you talk, I believe d one wey go pain pass go be if persin cryptos disappear from wallet wen nor be you send am out as dat wan go show how vulnerable and exposed d persin has become.
407  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Who has tried buying via Bank on: February 02, 2024, 01:43:22 PM
I don't know if there are others still feeling cautious towards the ban been lifted
I personally haven't tried it
So would like to ask has anybody tried buying via bank?
If so how was the experience compare to P2P?
I nor even dey see lifting d ban as something positive. For my mind, government wan use as trap those of us wey dey into cryptos so dat we go loose guard. Make una nor slack oh. Continue to dey do d wan wey dey work for you, especially if you dey use P2P. Dem sey no need to change a winning team in the middle of a game.

Quote
Social engineering has affirmed my decision not to share my number via P2P.
Na dis wan I nor dey wan do. Most of d P2P guys dey take style drop dem numbers for chat sey if you wan make dem pay you fast fast make you chat dem up on WhatsApp or give dem direct call. Nor try am. Me, I dey lock up. I nor dey answer dem and dem go quickly respond and transact with me. Just make sure to confirm payment once dem sey dem don send am. You nor need to know anybody personally or exchange contact to transact for P2P. Avoid doing dat bc na so scam dey take start. D next thing, dem go wan begin chat you outside dat exchange wey you meet dem.
408  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: banks in 9ja that are most p2p crypto-friendly bank with fast transaction speed on: February 02, 2024, 09:10:13 AM
Wait chairman
You mean am day my Almighty Polaris bank no dey your list?
Abeg, nor vex oh. So, we still get people wey dey use dat bank? Bank wey d customers nor even reach 20 people. Make I take cover first 🏃 b4 im show wit dagger.

So let keep the discussion alive again,  and also what makes up for the best cryptocurrency friendly banks involves the ease of account creation and how easy it is to increase your account limits to at least a tier 3 standard where can be able to send and receive 7 figures and above
Wiwo, those things nor mean sey any bank dey crypto friendly. Na just dem regular business dem dey do and account limitations once you meet up with KYC to stretch your account. If anyone step up d tier level, dem go expand your transaction limits. If you wan know whether dem dey crypto friendly or not, just add a crypto related word for your transaction description and watch how dem go plank you sharp sharp. Bros, no bank for Naija dey crypto friendly oh. Make una dey guarded. Even if FGN talk tomorrow sey dey are encouraging cryptos in Naija, I nor go still use crypto related words for my transactions oh.
409  Economy / Economics / Re: Coping with Risk. on: January 30, 2024, 10:00:01 PM
... which is more risky?

A). Running a physical business that has a whole lot of risk associated with it or

B) running an online investment with high risk of hack that could result in you loosing all your asset.
For me, both have the same level of risk. You may not believe it but that's a fact. Anything that can lose you money (whether fiat or cryptos) is risky and the level of risk depends on one's commitment and how much is invested. I've a long history of most of those around me not wanting to have anything to do with online investment. To these ones, anything online is a scam. Their mindset is already sealed on that.

Let me share this short happenstance, and I know some of us here may have similar experience. A few years ago, a man bought a shop outright (not lease) in a popular market in my state. Unknown to him that the market was to be demolished in less than a week's time. That was an offline business, yeah? Yet the man suffered great loss. He almost passed out.
410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet can i use for my needs on: January 30, 2024, 04:39:27 PM
It is better to use Binance Exchange instead of Wallet and its security is very tight and it has a very strong exchange, that is, no one can steal your money, no matter where it is, because its security is very high.
That's not a good suggestion to start with. Exchanges aren't for storing coins/tokens. They're only beneficial for trading. Just buy on them and move to your private wallets, except you're going to be trading them there. If you do trade them on exchanges, make sure not to leave them there for long. Remember, not your keys, not your coins, slogan?

Quote
It's work very well and no one can move your money. The best thing about it is the authentication that you do any transfer then authentication code will receive to Google authenticator, your money can go out through it. When you have it, no one can take your money out. There is another way to not to get your money out. If you have installed it, no one can hack your account.
You wrote like one who's VERY new in this industry. Otherwise, you wouldn't be expressing so much confidence in a Cex. Binance may have a great rating now but that doesn't insulate it from the realities of hacks and betrayals. Remember Bitrex, Coinex, Poloniex; just to mention but three; those were the exchanges that dominated the crypto space when I came into it in 2017. Where are they now? Anything can happen in this industry.
411  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Swap btc to usdt deal on: January 30, 2024, 02:07:45 PM
Another cock and bull story. I don't believe anything OP said. Just take a peep at his profile – OP was registered on 5th December 2023, made a single post on the day of registration (that's this one) and disappeared into thin air till date. Anyone who decides to deal with OP should be mindful of the type of risk they're setting themselves up for.
412  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the minimum time or interval expected to make post ? on: January 30, 2024, 12:57:20 PM
What is the time intervals?
To be on the safe side, I think newbies should maintain a 30 mins gap post, at least. Even when the next post they want to comment on is an easy read or just a post or two in a thread before them. There shouldn't be a haste to posting. As high ranked members, I guess anything that's not a minute interval isn't frowned on. Perhaps the misconception could be that high ranked users are viewed as being constructive in their posts. Posting within a short duration could be viewed as burst posting for some while for others it could be judged as spamming. It depends, I think. For me, I try to keep a reasonable gap as that affords me the time to peruse other content on the forum or get something outside the forum within the few minutes of waiting. Anyone who's genuinely reading before posting won't be posting at close intervals. A few years ago, there were campaign managers who specified posting gap in their campaigns. I think it used to be 30 mins interval.
413  Economy / Economics / Re: Why we should prioritize investment over saving on: January 30, 2024, 11:47:20 AM
Saving our hard earned money have never been a bad idea, but their are certain things we need to consider before thinking of saving, such as inflation.
I learned something after the last bull run (and I believe it's valuable). I had to convert my savings to stablecoin and kept in a private wallet instead of keeping it in a bank during the bear season. As a stablecoin it won't be affected by inflation as fiat in a bank. Then I pull it out and invest in Bitcoin once I perceive a bull rally is around the corner. That way, I gain both ways in global perspective – Inflation free and secondly, investment in Bitcoin. On a local level, giving the type of hyper inflation that's ravaging my country, I gain in three ways – Inflation free, 2, Investment in soaring Bitcoin price and value; 3, My local exchange rate. I suggest people try this out too, especially those in inflation torn countries.
414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to farm airdrops on crypto? on: January 30, 2024, 10:52:18 AM
~snipped~
Which airdrop are you referring to here? No all airdrop require money to participate in them.
That's not completely true. There are airdrops where minting the project's NFTs is a prerequisite to booking a place for the airdrop. Some projects can give you a testnet token to pay for the minting while there are some that will demand you send your own hard earned money to get a native token to mint it. Minting of NFTs is gradually becoming a buzz this day just like mining and earning apps are gaining ground too. This crypto industry is filled with uncertainties. Whoever believed there would come a time that projects would utilize the Bitcoin Blockchain to run their own projects – BRC20 projects.
415  Economy / Speculation / Re: Self control cannot be neglected as an early investor on: January 30, 2024, 08:18:35 AM
If anyone must achieve any desire in life, he must have the self control to control his lists cause here I am burning with desire to accumulate bitcoin and this same me went ahead to forfeit it for a game. All I know is I'm never gonna make this same mistake again.
It's good to know that you've gone back to your initial plan of staying on Bitcoin by readjusting your priority. You don't place your harvest season in your sowing season. You invest now for tomorrow's financial gratuity and satisfaction. That's what every investor aims at. Don't let immediate gratification distract you from your goal.

Again, I won't disparage anyone for taking out their savings to get themselves some vanities that make them happy without investing it. It's their choice to make. Your money and your choice, and hopefully your story isn't a fairytale.
416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump sells $2.4 million worth of ETH on: January 30, 2024, 04:49:04 AM
Though trump was not associated with the project, he got royalties from it in the form of Ethereum.
Whether Trump was directly affiliated to the project or not, for a fact that he accepted royalty from it ties him to it. This is why I don't want to believe any influential businessman who tells us that he has no crypto earnings. For me, that's a big lie. It's the same way I don't believe that Warren Buffett doesn't do too. The old dude is a shrewd businessman. There's no way he won't put money in what in today's world is a money spinner, the digital gold.
417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Adults of bitcointalk what are your candid advice to newbies in the forum? on: January 29, 2024, 11:35:46 PM
Greetings to every member of the forum. My respect to all the adults on the bitcointalk forum.
The "adults" thing is a hilarious way to refer to veteran members of this forum or any other one in a social media space. Of course, we don't know what age users are here. I guess we've teenagers who started way ahead of those in their 40s and 50s. A few years ago here, there were members who frowned at being addressed as "Sir". They said it was rude. That was a debate that lasted before it was somehow resolved. I see the same thing with this "adult" thing but that isn't to say I didn't catch your drift there, anyway.

Don't hold on to it till you pass; always share that wisdom and exchange knowledge with the new babies in the forum.
It's one thing to share nuggets, and it's another thing for such nuggets to be utilized. Not everyone who listens to sermons put them to use. The same thing applies here. However, what I want newbies to know and do at a time like this is to load up on Bitcoin. We've preached this over and over. Buy and hodl in preparation for a fresh ATH. Anyone buying after April will be chasing price.
418  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do You Believe, "Passive Investors Make More Than Active Investors?" on: January 29, 2024, 03:56:21 PM
I've been watching many YouTube videos on how to make lots of money through day trading.
Those videos are quite impressive and compelling.
Don't be taken in completely by what those YouTube traders say. Most of them are just good hype men, nothing more. If you've to follow any of them to monitor what they do, follow those who teach their strategies and not those who display supposed piles of cash they say they make. A good number of those YouTubers trade on demo and that's the result they display to unsuspecting public. They open two trading positions and pick the one that's favourable to deceive noob traders.

As for passive investments being more profitable than active investments? I don't think so. It's like leaving your money in a fixed deposit in a bank vs withdrawing that cash and using it for your day to day business transactions. Of course, the one in a bank won't yield much. And if you think it's safe leaving it in the bank, you kid yourself. Anything can happen there too. Bank can go bankrupt.
419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is King on: January 29, 2024, 12:36:51 PM
I'm more comfortable referring to Bitcoin as a pathfinder than as a king. Though I know the angle OP took it from. Maybe I had loosely used it in different tags elsewhere in explaining its role in the crypto space and how it isn't ever going to disappear; that's in relation to investments. Pointedly, when we talk of the king nature of Bitcoin can we say it has really performed as a king to its subjects (users) in the past few weeks giving the congestion and exorbitant fees charged? Can we say that? But of course, not. Check what other coins afford users for transactions, both in fees, ease and speed. There's much to do about the regular congestions that happen on the Bitcoin blockchain. For those who will rise in defence of Bitcoin congestion and blame it on Ordinals, they should explain the ones of the past because Ordinals are just a recent thing.
420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet can i use for my needs on: January 29, 2024, 11:57:33 AM
I have heard a lot of people using trust wallets. How trust wallet is reliable for holding bitcoins and other altcoins? How likely is it to be hacked?
I don't think it's a good idea to use Trust Wallet for Bitcoin. Yes, it can be added there but you can't swap it there on a DApp. So, what's the use? Well, that's in addition to what people say about TW being a closed source app and could be easily manipulated.

I will advise you to use a separate wallet for storing your bitcoin and a separate wallet for your altcoins.
It's most advisable to use separate wallets for Bitcoin and altcoins...
From where I stand, the reason I support this is because gathering Bitcoin in crypto wallets that support alts which can be swapped in interaction with scam sites on DApps can be easily compromised and the wallets wiped off. If that happens, that means everything in that wallet is gone. Bitcoin should be treated differently in single wallet to minimize such an incident. Electrum is great but I think it's a bit confusing to use for beginners. Anyone downloading it should be sure to get it from its official site and link to Playstore or IOS. There are many fake electrum wallet apps out there. Bluewallet is ok too but I don't know why people hardly talk about it.
