981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pi network KYC on: August 18, 2023, 09:32:36 AM
I have a brother that has been using his mobile phone to mine Pi network some years ago before the coin become tradable, but left it and thought the coin is worthless. He asked me about the coin many months ago and I told him that the coin is worthless. Recently I saw the price on Huobi global and it was around $25. I told my brother about it and we are about to do KYC and send the PI coin to mainnet wallet, but on Pi browser, I got this error:
Yes, I read up the story on so many centralized exchanges rushing to list Pi, including Huobi global, and how Pi put out a disclaimer to that effect that it wasn't in alliance with any exchange to list its coin. It was indeed a funny situation. I saw Pi has an ATH of $307+ from Coingecko site but I don't know if it was actually traded on any exchange or it was just a glitch on the site.

Many individuals offering large sums on PI are likely scammers, as PI currently holds no established value and people estimate its worth arbitrarily before engaging in P2P transactions.
This Pi stuff is becoming more controversial on a daily basis than it makes sense, actually. One would wonder how it's drawing the attention of scammers if it doesn't have any value. Does it mean it has but many of us don't see through it? I asked this because I've yet to see where scammers show interest in a project that's not worth anything.
982  Other / Meta / Re: Forum being abuse? on: August 18, 2023, 07:40:34 AM
I haven't dug deeper into the case but one thing that struck me upon visiting mumu68's post history (who's the subject of OP's topic here) is that mumu68's posts are just on one subject matter – Scam Accusation. All the posts. This is the first time I've seen such apart from bounty hunters with the POA posts. The user has been here since 2018 but seems to have just one area of concentration. Do we take it that they're purely fixated on just that and have dedicated that account to do that hatchet job? At least, I know that's not the sole purpose of this forum.
983  Economy / Economics / Re: How to developed your capital on: August 17, 2023, 03:27:21 PM
1. Don't spend more than you earn it kills capital through lack of wisdom
That's possible if you earn considerably well. There are people who earn the nearest minimum of wages that can hardly pass for something. Some people leave on less than $1 a day in Africa and certain Asia countries. How do you think such an advice will work for them? It's not possible.

Quote
2. Development an attitude of reserving "spend and save in quote"
My stand on that is the same as what I said above 👆

Quote
3. Read books on financial market and its products
This necessarily doesn't mean it will yield positive result. If it were so, those who teach financial education or author such books should be top on the global rich list of the wealthiest people on earth.

Quote
4. Learn to engaged in investment
5. Be curious about things and ask a lot of questions
Apt! Feed your mind on issues of where you want to be in future for wherever a man's treasure is, that's where his heart will be.

The last two points are germane too.

985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next Bitcoin Bull Run: Is It Tied to the Next Halving? on: August 15, 2023, 08:14:15 PM
I think the halving happenstance has become  a psychological play on the market to the point that investors now align its occurrence with bull rally. Past results have shown that Bitcoin has had favourable results around those periods that coincided with its halving and after them. So, it won't be wrong to conclude that halving has been responsible for the heightened prices we've seen Bitcoin attain to its numerous All Time High. I expect the incoming halving in 2024 to also give us something in that same light that will see the market through another ATH. I sincerely hope we don't see anything similar to what Litecoin did after its halving a few days ago. We expected price to shoot up but it slumped, disappointedly.
986  Other / Meta / Re: Is resetting a BTT account password bad? on: August 15, 2023, 07:00:28 PM
~snipped~
That's my point exactly, like the forum was created with an opened and free minded approach. Satoshi/theymos didn't want to create any discomfort with registration and using the forum but we're the ones complicating things with all our unofficial rules and regulations.
Well, I'm of the opinion that he should create it now, seeing the level of complaints of account hacks and all that. A 2FA should help buffer the security of accounts here. I know it takes time to recover any hacked account even when the owner has a signed message from a wallet they've staked here. During that period of wait, the user would've lost their slot in a campaign. That's me assuming they were in a campaign before that hack happened. Just like posting here and ranking up was without hassles in the past until theymos implemented the merit system to control spamming. He can also implement 2FA on accounts. After all, change is the only constant thing in life. BTW, we've seen less serious business minded sites  implement the 2FA on their platforms. So, it shouldn't be a big deal for theymos to implement. He can also delegate it to programmers here and I'm sure someone will pick up the challenge.
987  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When Trading becomes Unfavourable on: August 15, 2023, 06:36:23 PM
There are few factors that leads to unfavourable trading, these factors includes Greed, and chasing a trend
Greed is the real bane of trading. Many unprofitable traders erroneously think that trading is a shortcut to making easy money. They want to increase leverage or lot size (forex term) while triggering trades but won't like to quickly exit losing trades, hoping they will revert. By the way, by "chasing a trend" I guess you wanted to say "chasing a trade" or "trading against a trend" which is a bad thing.

Another thing that can make trading unfavourable is lack of emotional control. It's in trading one knows how important the word wait or patience is. No matter how good a trader's setup or trading plan is, if he doesn't have a grip on his emotions he will mess it up. Trading is more of emotional control that technical.
988  Other / Meta / Re: Whats your take on adding 2FA key as a Bitcointalk account security features. on: August 15, 2023, 05:16:30 PM
So why don't we add a Google authentication option as a security feature to the forum?
This line of interest has been cropping up steadily lately and I like it. I'm in for a 2FA on accounts here. Yes, I know many will allude to the signing wallet messages to regain access but those who will do that should remember that signing a wallet to prove account ownership has to do with a stolen or hacked account and not as an antidote to preventing the account from getting hacked. That's what a 2FA does. It strengthens accounts against being hacked.

When you can prove authenticity by signing a message from any of your old/staked bitcoin address. why bother having 2FA? Learn to sign message if you are worried about account comprising.
This will be a very cumbersome thing to do. I don't like the idea of the wallet signed message just to log in as we know it could be a regular thing, especially for those who don't have the permanently logged in box ticked.
989  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Flip.gg deleting deposit Referrals on: August 15, 2023, 03:54:54 PM
Having read the back and forth on this Flip.gg issue here, I think it will be better to summon the casino if anyone knows the handle to its customer care or an active SM handle where they can be expediently reached. OP, I understand your plight and I know how annoying that situation can be. Let me play the devil's advocate here by assuming that by any chance flip.gg has a modus operadi of moving  referrals to a different section of their site once they make deposit? Have you ransacked the site to check if they actually moved your referral that way and that it wasn't a deletion?
990  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I a bad person if I manage to avoid taxes? (Hypothetical question) on: August 15, 2023, 01:13:50 PM
It's just a hypothetical question and says nothing about me.
Even if it does have something to do with you, no one will arrest or victimize you for saying your mind 😆.

Quote
So, my legitimate question is, after all the robbery, a person, who doesn't pay taxes, is a bad person for the society or not? More likely I want to get answer from those whose countries have a model similar of European healthcare and employment insurance.
It's really a sad situation because it's purely over taxation. It's not just an European thing alone. It's ubiquitous with every government of the world. Anything to generate revenue gives them orgasm. Europe and the other saner continents are even lucky they get to feel what the revenue from the taxes they pay do for them. It's the reverse in Africa where most political leaders are purely in government to steal from their people. I wouldn't feel bad not paying tax at all. What for? When I know there are crooks waiting at the end of the line for my money so they can embezzle it.

If no one is paying tax, that could affect the economy. Tax is important. You do not have to evade tax, pay your tax.
Everyone pays taxes whether they like it or not through indirect taxation on goods and services. If government depends solely on income tax, it will lose big time because not everyone can be taxed that way.
991  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: !! Warning !! Bitget Exchange on: August 15, 2023, 12:37:32 PM
So, you open scam accusations based on one YouTuber's opinion and one Tweet from an unknown person? Did you find everything about this disputed case, surely Bitget gave some explanations about the reason for the dispute with this user. for a correct assessment, it is necessary to hear both sides, right?
Honestly, I thought I was the only one who noticed that needless solicitation from OP on something very remote to them. It's not even something they're sure of. It's just a hearsay and OP ran with it. I can't fathom why they did it, knowing that the exchange is making efforts to get the issue resolved in the first place. Such  an unbridled display of uncharitable comment can ruin a business. We can't say because this is social media anyone can say whatever they feel like saying and get away with it without getting sued. I think it's about time online people  started getting sued for intentionally spreading lies in order to ruin others. I know it's going to be more difficult tracking people here to physical addresses unlike in Facebook and Twitter where it's already done.
992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The funniest coin, ladypepe AIRdrop event on: August 15, 2023, 11:41:41 AM
~
Now I see!
Meaning before one could go into such altcoin investment some info needs to be digged out to know their origins,  and does it mean they got those old tweet deleted to basically keep their account clean from suspicion and those who go about hunter for a project to double there money may not know what the interior motives of the project owners.
You nailed it. Criminals don't like leaving trails. Whenever you find a trail it could simply mean that either someone in the gang fucked up or the criminal(s) just want to lead pursuers astray. In cryptos, it's the first case. The criminals get hold of those accounts by hacking or buying them and then do their deed. Why do you think old accounts are hacked or bought?

Quote
Now I see!
Airdrop isn't something to be fully trusted because they are sucking, I could remembered a friend who got piped up though airdrop and till then he promised never to involved with anything airdrop.
By "piped up" you meant scammed/wrecked? Anyway, the safest way to attend to airdrops is to dedicate a burner wallet for them. No one should use their main wallet for airdrops or any other social media tasks to avoid getting their funds wiped out if it goes awry because of malware or hacks. Anything can happen. Be guarded.
993  Economy / Speculation / Re: Volatility and its effect on: August 15, 2023, 10:16:56 AM
In the foreign currency market, I recently experienced the BTC/USD volatility effect, which prompted me to investigate what makes the pair (bitcoin) so volatile.
You should've been here around 2017–2018 to observe what volatility is. This day, it's almost like Bitcoin sleeps throughout. Those days you would check charts and be dismayed that Bitcoin had done over $5k in a day, either in loss or in gain. I know someone will say the market is ranging ATM that's why Bitcoin seems static. I don't speak for the moment, it's something I've observed over a period of time for a while now even before it got itself in this range.

The easiest thing that affects Bitcoin (or alts) volatility is news, nothing else. Any impactful news, whether positive or negative will effect direction immediately it's released. It doesn't matter where price was headed before. Bitcoin is more fundamental than technical analysis.
994  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: August 14, 2023, 08:43:12 PM

I want to believe that's a mistake. Right? Perhaps, you entering Xeovo there instead of zoogvpn seems to have misplaced others beneath on your list. You may want to crosscheck it.
995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The funniest coin, ladypepe AIRdrop event on: August 14, 2023, 06:03:30 PM
How legit does the airdrop seems to be and there is no clear information about this airdrop.
Even with the conspicuous lack of clear information about the project and its airdrop, we still find those who will blindly participate in this fruitless chase. Greed is the major undoing of many. People want to reap where they didn't sow and that's how these projects get to find those who believe in whatever they're told.

what surprises me is how come they had such amount of followers on twitter ...
It could've been bought. Don't rule out that possibility. Many projects look for already grown accounts and purchase them to run their newly created businesses. Sometimes they buy old accounts to make it look like they've been old in the business. It's all deceit and those who they hoodwink are in themselves greedy folks.
996  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Timing and Trading on: August 14, 2023, 05:01:11 PM
~snipped~
Whichever way you look at it, time and timing, though slightly two different concepts, are extremely important in trading. To time (timing) the market and to know what timeframe (time). Whether in FX trading, Cryptos, Stocks, Indices and all that, any trader who doesn't respect those two concepts in addition to the control of their emotions won't succeed at trading.

I like to swing trade and that makes me consider higher time-frames to check for trend, either for the day or on the long run before making any trades. Then I pick my trades from lower TFs. Waiting for candle close of whatever TF one picks for entry is very important. It's bad practice to trigger a trade in a haste without waiting for the candle close, no matter how enticing you think the entry has presented itself.
997  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is all what they say about bitcoin true? on: August 14, 2023, 04:17:36 PM
As a newbie on this forum, for some days now I have been going through threads, reading and trying to understand and getting better knowledge on every single one of them
I commend you on that. Most newbies this day don't bother to read through the forum before making their own posts. It's either they just dive straight into asking questions whose answers are staring at them or they volunteer to teach the community what it already know 😆.

In a thread someone said "Bitcoin is not all about happiness" can a little more light be thrown on this?
The best person who could've answered that question would've been the user who made that comment. However, living in that user's mindset, I want to believe they made that comment to show that it's not all roses with Bitcoin. That it has its down moment too like every other business. I agree with that. I see a lot of people getting carried away with Bitcoin and begin to think that their investment in Bitcoin should become an instant hit. They forget there are people who've suffered great losses investing in Bitcoin too.
998  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am new here please guide me. on: August 14, 2023, 03:51:11 PM
Hi!  I'm Johnmatthew and I am new here, when I was scrolling in Youtube I found A youtube channel Bitcointalk show which he discuss about this forum and out of curiosity then I search this forum in my browser and then created an account so here Am I.
Almost like how I got here too. I stumbled on a site during my curious search for what Bitcoin was and that directed me here. It was months later I got to know that site was CMC (Coinmarketcap.com). You're most welcome here and I do know you will find here very interesting if you sustain this same curiosity and put in the work.

My first question is how this forum works? What are the don'ts and does here in forum...
Basically, this forum is like a town hall meeting that has its major focus on discussions centered around Bitcoin. There are rules and regulations that govern this "town hall" which must not be broken, otherwise there are consequences. I advise you read them as I can see some users before me have posted links.
999  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The things that improve a quality post on: August 14, 2023, 01:25:06 PM
● Sentence
● Spelling
● Research
● Environmental observations
● Arrangements
Of all those listed I will favour "Research" as top and then closely followed by "Arrangements" and "Spelling". I'm easily captivated by page-turners, sentences well spiced. Nothing draws one's (I speak for myself here) attention better to a well written text than the flowery and well constructed structures embedded therein. However, despite how I love that to be; the article or posts made should be something constructive or well researched so that no one tries to spill a lie here. Nonetheless, I'm aware that there are posts which may not be that subtle but underneath them they've succinct messages and that could be because the posters aren't native speakers of English language. So, in all, I don't like criticizing people for not writing in seemingly good grammar especially when I see through their ingenuity. After all, English isn't the most spoken language in the world. Chinese is.

By the way, "Arrangements" should encompass Sentence and Spelling.

I'm happy OP survived the unintentional litmus test from Yahoo by returning fund mistakenly sent to an old address his account is associated with. I like the fact that he's back here, and trying to help out a sick and vulnerable uncle of his. These acts of theirs make me still believe there's good in humanity and I hope OP continues to stay true to it.

Your long hiatus already makes you forget the basic do’s and don’t here in ghe forum. You should start reading again the forum rules to aboid future consequences for your action. Best of luck on your forum journey.
Such is expected. The only thing that would've made it different were if OP didn't immediately jump into posting to earn as soon as they returned from the hiatus. OP would've taken time to peruse the forum again to understand the changes that took place in their absence. I get confused myself every time I take a leave from Discord and Reddit for like six months. I begin to study them again. So, it's expected.
