741  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Careful scammers and hackers using mail spoofing on: October 28, 2023, 10:24:52 AM
Yesterday I received email from my own email saying that he/she has monitored every keystore and all the information about me is all gathered he has sent me a Bitcoin address and told me that if I did not send any money in the form of Bitcoin he would expose my data has anyone received this kind of email?
What will you do?
That's some cheap blackmail from some cheap con artist(s). I would do nothing if I got such a mail because that's an empty threat. If they actually had your stuff as claimed, you think the ratard wouldn't have hacked you long before you got that mail? For all I know, it's a randomly sent mail. I won't even bother changing anything except blocking the retard if I want.

Secondly, I never check my mail; if I need to use mail, then I don’t read what was sent to me earlier.
This just broke my heart. So, it means you will never get to read my outpouring of love gesture if I eventually muster the courage to do a mail outside this forum then? I'm inconsolable 😭
742  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The fear of investment on: October 27, 2023, 06:37:13 PM
In our modern society, the fear of being scammed by king pins and other fake platforms has made many people to loose interest in investing bitcoin.
As if people don't get scammed in offline businesses. As if people don't get scammed through their banks. As if people don't even lose tangible assets. Well, that's what it's. It's quite understandable when people get scared of Bitcoin the first time they get to hear of it because of its connection to the internet but it will become overboard if these people still fear and not research it. Most of these people think it's risky getting in Bitcoin out of hearsay and not of any personal experience or loss they've got. No one should live on the bandwagon effect. They should try it out for that's the way to go in learning new things.

Quote
I think the environment where one is actually staying also contributes to this fear because just the other I was actually explaining the basic essence of bitcoin to a friend and all he could even think of was that I want to basically scam him of his money of which he doesn’t even know that bitcoin is actually a currency on which people benefit wonderful opportunity like through savings.
As laughable as your experience with your friend is, that's often the mindset of many out there. Some will even go the extra mile to demand you show them proof of whatever goodies you think they stand to gain before they can try it out. I think we're at that point where Bitcoin will gain more press time as major news outlets are going to be interested in knowing what's going on with Bitcoin in a few weeks time. That has been the format whenever we experience a rally. Those who missed the past rallies maybe lucky to join this train and if they miss it, they might get another chance in 2028. Where I come from, there's this local parlance that everyone has their appointed time for breakthrough.
743  Other / Meta / Re: Trust Flags!!! on: October 27, 2023, 03:38:01 PM
From little I have learnt so far Op, flag and trust aren't the same because flag show strong evidence that such person have violated some agreements between two parties or for instance, you have a money deal and you promised to pay in few months to come and its happens that you didn't respond to the agreement or have refused to pay as promised this may warrant the opposite to create flag since you didn't refund the money.
I know I've taken note of neutral tags on a few accounts which have borrowed money here, not just for spam posting, too. The neutral tag is made immediately the money is sent out. By my understanding, I think the tag serves as a reminder to the lender to know those they've lent money to. I know the money lenders can still write out names of their debtors on a private spreadsheet and away from here but they choose to put it here. Maybe, who knows, for transparency sake. Nonetheless, I think I've seen a user or two whose time to repay loans expired but no flags were raised on them. I don't know if they actually repaid the loans but the lenders forgot to take off the tags or what.

~snipped~
Sometimes it is useful to lose something in order to compare what they had and did not value. You know, experience is acquired in different ways.
But of course, that's how we get to measure the value of what we've. You know the word on marble – The value of a possessed goods isn't known until it's lost. Come to think of it, many people don't easily pick up lessons from the misfortune of others until they experience it themselves.
745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is the increase in Bitcoin price benefits us on: October 27, 2023, 08:26:33 AM
Bitcoin price benefits us today. Firstly it's and increase in crypto investment, which can lead to more development in business...
I guess you aren't a native English speaker as evidenced in your topic and the OP you made. However, going forward, I believe the only way Bitcoin can benefit us (or its fans) will be for those hodling it as an asset and not those using it as means of payment. If anything, Bitcoin often becomes very frustrating to make use of as payment option during its spikes. We often find the Blockchain congested once price begins to surge. Has anyone observed that its mining fee has gone up recently? It went as high at 39 sats two days ago. It's going down gradually now that price is retracing. This has become the bane of Bitcoin and what we fear whenever there's a bull rally.
746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Man Who Stole Over 51,680 Bitcoin on: October 26, 2023, 02:40:54 PM
But the good news is that he was sentenced to "one year and one day in federal prison."
I don't see how that should be good news. He stole and jeopardised the happiness of many and the exchange itself. He should've been given more years in the penitentiary. His action should be condemned in totality.

I thought this guy was Chinese, given his last name is Zhong.

he is asian. the screenshot above is not jimmy.. jimmy in the screenshot is hiding under a black jacket. the guy in blue is someone else
They had to mask him to keep him safe. Yet, he didn't think of the economic safety of those whose Bitcoin he stole.

749  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buy on growth on: October 24, 2023, 09:05:24 PM
Here is the problem with people about market growth, we know buying dip is more better and this will bring more profits but some seems not to have that mindset of buying when it's low rather they preferred buying when the entire environment has changed possibly gaining about 10 to 15 percent market increase and changes.
I ain't surprised a single bit with that line of behaviour whenever I see it. The price chasing thing has been on for as long as buying and selling have been in existence. Perhaps, that attitude fulfills something in economics; though I wonder what that can specifically be, anyway. Why wait until price begins to pick to show a project isn't dead before buying in? Why not utilize the Warren Buffet philosophy of buying when others are scared and then selling off when there's a scramble in the market for more buy? For a while now, there has been a call to buy and hodl Bitcoin here but I'm not sure many took that call as something serious. Now that price has rallied up for a few days, I await the so many who will flood here to ask – should I buy now? It's really sad that some of us here still allow ourselves to be caught in that.
750  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigerian naira hits record black market low of 1,100 per dollar on: October 24, 2023, 06:53:33 PM
It's a dire situation for the currency and its holders.

It has been calling for the last decade now, from as low as N150 to $1 to N450 and then N750 climbing up to N1000, but the rate of collapse has never been this rapid.
I can remember exchanging a dollar at N110 in 2008, not to even talk of the N450 range. All these things didn't happen a long time ago. Just 15 years ago and the naira is almost like a tissue paper now. How we got to this point should be a fascinating story, honestly. It's a big shame on our political class as it's now obvious it has lost control of our economy.

Just for a record that it is now 1250/$ as the time of writing this post and I’m not shocked because I was already expecting all of this after the election and...
Just imagine it. It's heartbreaking to even think that there were those who shamelessly campaigned and did all they could to enthrone this present administration with mouthed promises that the incoming president would put together eggheads who would man our economy. Those I pity most in this dispensation are the minimum wage earners. How do these people even cope? This hyperinflation and the lack of corresponding increase in the standard of living of Nigerians is a red flag. It could lead to an implosion and increased crime rate in weeks to come (as if we haven't been seeing that already) if nothing urgent is done about this situation.
751  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 7,000 bitcoins locked on USB stick. Owner not rushing to unlock them on: October 24, 2023, 06:27:40 PM
I believe this is his bitcointalk profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2211 - he has been inactive since 2015.
The Thomas dude is a tech guy. I ran through some of his posts to get a feel of that. Now, this is the major reason I don't regret not being into Bitcoin as an early adopter. I'm sure I would've lost my coins too one way or the other and that would be with so much pain, seeing what a treasure Bitcoin is now. Just imagine someone having close to $240 million in Bitcoin but can't assess it. This is going to be worth more in coming days. Nonetheless, what I don't understand is why isn't the dude giving access to those other ethical hackers who claim they can retrieve it for him?
752  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying at 35k? on: October 24, 2023, 05:47:47 PM
Hallo people,

I bought some bitcoin at 26/27/30 and 31k. all profit so far, I am thinking about buying more, but is 35k te expensive to buy bitcoin?
I wouldn't think that buying Bitcoin even till $100k is expensive because I expect it to go past that level with a fresh ATH that will come with the 2024 halving. However, I think you should allow it retrace and make a little correction before you buy. With that, you will be  buying at discounted rate. It has to drop to pick momentum again, given the way it skyrocketed yesterday and today. I expect price correction to take it to $30k to $31k.

754  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ways to earn money in cryptocurrency? on: October 24, 2023, 04:21:37 PM
It would be a great help if any of you guys, would share some good ways to earn online money in BTC or in any token, not necessary to be from this forum but from other online platforms is also appreciate able, where we have to do some tasks (not surveys, they don't work here).
I once toed this line of question a few times and on one occasion a member made a suggestive comment that there was a forum like that but that it wasn't as reward structured, so to say, as this forum. From my observation, there doesn't seem to exist another crypto forum that can be placed side by side BTT. I guess the reason is that all of the others run bounties and reward their hunters in tokens that are in most cases not listed and worthless.

Quote
I know my question might be off-topic, or might not be liked by most members, but still, I thought to create it, because many members have a lot of information, that they can share.
You don't have to be unnecessarily hard on yourself or judgemental of others. Feel free to voice your thoughts on issues provided they don't impede the rights of others.
755  Other / Meta / Re: Trust Feature idea: give DT1 the ability to remove specific feedbacks from DT on: October 24, 2023, 01:49:22 PM
So here's a new suggestion: would it be possible to give DT1 the power to "downvote" certain (negative) feedbacks so they are no longer shown by default? That could potentially solve many of the current disputes that have been fought through negative feedback for many months.
That would be great to implement but a step further should be added so it doesn't get abused because of the so much drama that goes on here. My argument is consistent with when there's a deceased user who left such a tag. What happens next, then? What happens after they've left the tag and things suddenly change that disprove the reason for the tag in the first, what happens next where the said member can't be reached to remove the tag? Is the tagged member going to bear the indelible mark forever? Honestly, I'm in for a way that this type of tag can be removed.
756  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What advice for businesses exploring crypto payment gateways? on: October 24, 2023, 10:32:48 AM
What advice would you give to fellow entrepreneurs considering this move? Share your insights and let's discuss the pros and cons of crypto payments for businesses.
It's a given that every modern business should adopt crypto option for payment just as they've for fiat. I believe every business has to move with the tide or be left behind. Anyone who's stuck on the old school way of doing business will sooner than later be affected by lack of patronage as their customers who are into cryptos are bound to move away from them and to those who accept cryptos.

The ease and convenience of paying for goods in cashless economy rather than handing over physical cash can be compared to the ease of paying with cryptos over cashless payment with fiat. People want what can give them less stress accomplishing. What matters to me (I believe for many others too) during transactions is ease and convenience. For that, any business that offers me that convenience becomes my regular.

– In addition, I can't remember the last time I made a physical deposit in a bank or a withdrawal inside a bank. That's fiat. Cryptos can do much more of what fiat is offering, even with ease.
757  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Importance of emotion while trading on: October 24, 2023, 08:53:28 AM
Emotion is very crucial in trading and that's what differentiates humans from bots or scripts. Whether we're winning or losing, there has to be a battle of controlling our emotion. Otherwise, it makes a mess of our psychology. While the winning part emotion brings us excitement and that feeling of "I've arrived" which makes many throw caution to the wind or the losing part that causes us anxiety and loss of confidence in our setups, both should be controlled to the nearest minimum. This is where professional and profitable traders tend to have that upper hand over amateurs. Pro-traders deaden their emotions while in trade; whether winning or losing. With that, they're able to have a clear head with things that happen on their charts while still in trade.
758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will it affect your life if bitcoin price comes to $1 million per bitcoin? on: October 24, 2023, 06:44:27 AM
I would finish paying for my house

That would make me very happy  Grin
What you're worth in Bitcoin will be the deciding factor. If you aren't worth much, the astronomical increase in BTC price won't affect your fortune much. Everyone should know that. It's not enough to scream and clamour for bull rally if we don't have some set aside that we're hodling.

For me, my happiness is that once the rally begins it's not only Bitcoin that will feel the impact. Alts too will rally up. We've begun to see it these past few days. Today, Bitcoin zooms passed $35,000 and altcoins are beginning to smile too.
759  Other / Meta / Re: Most iconic erm... I mean most ridiculous topics from Off-topic board on: October 23, 2023, 08:20:54 PM
This one here...
That topic wasn't originally started in the Off-Topic section to show how awkward that's if we go by this user's suggestion 👇.

move your topic to the ""  off topic.  ""

Quote
As if the forum would shatter if they put more effort in their questions. Sad Who even gave the rule that most of these questions should be one line or one worded? Or is it reserved for stupid questions only?
😆 Your first line cracked me up. Maybe they're psychic like that and wouldn't want to do anything that could shatter the forum. You never can tell... On a serious note, many of those posting in Off-Topic are newbies who are lost about Bitcoin discussion and need time on the forum to catch up with the general flow. You know how we all started, right?

Quote
Instead of the board being littered with spam from account farmers, isn't there a way to just scrap it or maybe turn it to someplace useful?
You need to align this with what happens at the Altcoin Discussion board to be able to draw a conclusion and see if you won't rescind on your verdict. There's great spam happening at the Altcoin board, only that they don't come as one liners like Off Topic posts.
760  Other / Meta / Re: As A Bitcointalk Member on: October 23, 2023, 07:39:03 PM
I'd like to know because we do have members that have the title (if I should call it a title) PROMINENT dancing by their name, and I just wonder.
What have they done to own that title?
I'm not sure I've seen any member with that title, except you're trying to hint us that theymos is cooking up something in that regard.

Quote
Is it that they have contributed much on this Forum? What have they done or how can we tell what they have done?
Anyway, talking about prominence; I think there are a few members here who've shown cause to that effect by the way they've carried themselves and made relevant contributions in helping other users get it going. Some have proved their trustworthiness and dependability over the years. It takes a lot to get people online to trust you in an anonymous forum like this. If anyone is able to do that, then they can be called prominent. Again, there are those who've developed one software or the other to ensure that this forum runs smoothly. Some are old members while others are new who just got on board and went straight to work like the user who created the "OP" tag that appears on every topic starter.
