1061  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Passive income with crypto on: August 07, 2023, 03:45:32 PM
Hey guys! I've been in crypto for a while but since it's bear market I'm curious: are there any services where you can earn passive income in crypto, except lending?
If you know, share your experience, please.
Bear market? Nah, now isn't a bear season. A little correction here and there doesn't mean it's a bear. If anything, I should say the market is gearing into a bull season if we evaluate what market cap is ATM.

For passive earning, other users have suggested staking to you. You should know there are inherent risks too with it, whether you're staking on centralized platform or on a noncustodial wallets that do support it, you're still going to be held up and won't be able to sell off immediately in case of a dump. Most staking platforms won't allow you unstake immediately. There are cooling off days. Generally, in business everything comes with a certain level of risk. You can try nodes. It's also a form that can provide you with passive income.
1062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I see it, I feel it, I know it and it will live forever. on: August 07, 2023, 03:01:46 PM
BTC be the first cryptocurrency I have started my journey with in the community, it has helped me to seen wonders around me, feel greatness around my believe and it will live forever to fulfill purpose in the world. I received text message from my neighbors this morning, that they have seen many reasons why BTC will live forever...
Whatever that expression of yours means, I honestly don't know about Bitcoin lasting forever. Though I know it has come to stay. I know this from the evidence that Bitcoin is the bedrock of this industry. Whatever makes Bitcoin disappear will kill the entire industry. It's going to be tsunamic. But that isn't stamping it that it will last forever. Nothing on planet earth lasts forever.

It will be great if we have a troll account that calls out some of this ridiculous stories about how their neighbors asked this or that about Bitcoin. Even greater if they can do it in a very witty way.
😆, honestly some of these stories are as ludicrous as they come. Anyway, why a troll account to do that? A regular account can still point out any shenanigan if spotted. Though I must confess that some of them do sound convincing. This also could pass as someone else's reality. It isn't that bogus it can't pass that test remotely.
1063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin really not for everyone? on: August 07, 2023, 12:49:53 PM
Before now, I've seen some forum members argue that bitcoin is not meant for everyone.
Is there ever a thing that's for everybody? Nope, there isn't. So, why make it look like it's an aberration if Bitcoin isn't? When we see it from that angle then we should know that this wiping up unnecessary sentiment for Bitcoin is uncalled for.

For some of us that are from developing countries, is not easy to convince someone about bitcoin or educating somebody about it at first instance and you expect them to accept it wholeheartedly.
Don't beat yourself up on that and think it's because your part of the world is uncivilized and uneducated that's why. Even in America with all its civilization there are people who don't accept whatever Bitcoin stands for. I guess it's a mindset thing that we choose whatever we think benefits us. Years to come, there are people even in China who will tell you they haven't heard about Bitcoin, let alone accepting it.
1064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [don't have such a mindset] Bitcoin accumulation/investment not a competition. on: August 07, 2023, 10:08:51 AM
I actually educated them about Bitcoin investment and how they can go about their investment with ease, and they confirmed that I really did change their mindset from what they were thinking about. I really feel happy that I have passed on what I have learned from this forum (knowledge gained from the forum) to other Bitcoin investors.
On the contrary, your advice to them may come back to hurt them in future, especially when they notice how Bitcoin price soars. If they were challenging one another on who would accumulate the most, I don't see how that would be a problem. That challenge is better than they gambling their cash away on some sites. I think you should've encouraged them to go ahead and accumulate at a time like this and then remind them to sell during the expected bull run in 2025 to take profit. Sorry, I don't think you advised them well.
1065  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did Bitcoin Bring a Smile to Your Face? How Did You Make It Happen? on: August 07, 2023, 09:54:26 AM
Well, for me Bitcoin hasn't directly put smile on my face so to say. However, I dare say that Bitcoin related businesses that I'm involved in have done all that. I've a little investment in Bitcoin but I haven't been able to profit from it in a way to say I've made a breakthrough from it. We also need to state it clearly here that people shouldn't assume the 10 cent they put down on Bitcoin should fetch them $1,000. It doesn't work that way. One needs to invest heavily to reap heavily. Investing that meagre in Bitcoin isn't a sure pass to wealth. Even when one invests heavily, there should be a time of wait to reap. It's not an instant gratification.
1066  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammers are getting innovative. on: August 07, 2023, 07:27:07 AM
and he was constantly pushing me to do the work fast....
This is a red flag. For me, once anyone is pushing me to be hasty while on a business or financial deal with them I instantly suspect a foul play. There is always something they don't want you to notice if you took your time to go through the process. So, they want to rush you through it and prevent you from seeing the trap. Don't fall for it. Take your time. Good to read you didn't. There's always something that gives away any scam plot if we scrutinized the offer without being hasty.

Talking about Discord, it has remained the hardest of all SM for me to understand. It looks disorganized and doesn't have any "accord".
1067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be rich sheeple or free people, what's your choice? on: August 06, 2023, 11:57:19 PM
what if I asked him to make me richer then Satoshi but I'd have to choose:
How rich do you even think Satoshi is? Well, he may be worth nothing if we go by the logic that the name is even a pseudonym. Satoshi hasn't revealed himself and those wallets suspected to be his haven't moved since. So, his Bitcoin are only worth what they were at inception which was virtually nothing.

- Bitcoin gets accepted everywhere, every government legalizes it, all mining is centralized, everyone must register every address with the local IRS, you're not allowed to send money outside legal addresses and miners are refusing those, every single transfer is taxed, the government can decide at any point to seize your coins and can do that with ease. BUT the value will go up 1000x times to 30 big ones!
Now, this is the part where you've to wake up and smell the coffee because that's not going to happen. I've yet to see a single currency that's accepted everywhere globally, not even the British pounds and the American dollar. I don't expect the entire world to stand still for Bitcoin. Nope, that isn't going to happen. Again, make Bitcoin centralized and it will destroy its credibility.
1068  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reasons for Doing your own research on: August 06, 2023, 10:53:00 PM
The moment I saw your thread title and read the first paragraph the first the thing that came to my mind was “DYOR, DYOR how the heck do we expect newbies to do research on things they know nothing about” to be honest I’m guilty of this too.
Guilty of what, really? Guilty of telling newbies to DYOR or guilty of you not having done it as a newbie? Your expression is ambiguous, even after rereading it I still couldn't fathom it.

Sometimes, they are news or articles we read online that turns out to be some misconceptions and as you continue to read other resources you’ll find the original news, so its certain that they’ll surely ingest some sort of information that will turn out to be false but with time they’ll come across the truth.
Yes, and that's why it's good to choose one's sources of information carefully. We shouldn't be reading from unreliable sources. This is the first thing I do whenever I want to find out the truth about a thing online, or of any politically related happening in my country. I make sure to read only from authentic and reputable media outlets.
1069  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: its a rumors but... on: August 06, 2023, 09:33:48 PM
Is there anything made good and serve for good purposes that criminals and scammers can't also benefit from it?
In fact, for the fact (pun intended) that criminals use it shows that it's widely sought after. No one likes to imitate a product that isn't in popular demand. Like you rightly opined, no one should give a dog a bad name just to hang it. There's a whole lot of criminal activities involving the use of fiat but no one has said fiat is bad and should be outlawed based on that. It amuses me when people go that route and think they're making sense in picking out something against Bitcoin based on this. It's an argument that falls flat on its face, honestly.
1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EXPECTIONS FROM LITECOIN HALVING on: August 05, 2023, 02:35:49 PM
Price even slumped immediately after the halving. That's very disappointing to say the least. All the hype round it, mistakenly so, as many analysts drew their conclusion that there would be a spike from what past Bitcoin halving has been able to do for the market and expected that Litecoin would do same. Sadly, LTC fell short of expectations and now investors will have to wait longer than they though to take out any gains.
1071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What's the best Altcoin for this moment to accumulate right now? on: August 05, 2023, 01:29:57 PM
I want to find a good Altcoin to invest in before the bull starts, also have a non-custodial exchange. This means, that we have complete control over our funds. If there is, please help convey it, because a lots of new altcoins was born every day.
No single answer will do justice to what you seek as everyone will want to shill whatever they're hodling. If you care for your investment you shouldn't leave the decision to random internet people to make for you. Except you've something in mind already and you want to guage how others assess it to find out if it's worth it or not. Still DYOR, even when options are dropped here for you. Research launchpad tokens, especially those from the Bluezilia  conglomerate. Exchange tokens won't be a bad place also to look. Make sure whatever tokens you consider have a use and utility.
1072  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Spot trading or future trading which trading is best for beginers? on: August 05, 2023, 11:47:22 AM
OP, you seemed to be asking question in your thread topic with this "Spot trading or future trading which trading is best for beginers (sic)?" but you went ahead to give an expository in the body of your first comment. That's conflicting. Anyway, that said.

I think every newbie trader should stick to spot trading and then grow from that conservative experience they will get from it. It's greed which often arises from the instant profit made (when it goes well, anyway) from future trading that entices amateur traders into futures trading. Traders should learn the logic behind "slow and steady win the race' and not instant gratification by hastily doing what they aren't conversant with and getting their fingers burnt
1073  Other / Meta / Re: Ignore user confirmation before ignoring on: August 05, 2023, 09:42:56 AM
Did you use your account on mobile regularly? It's more possible to mistakenly Ignore a user if you are on mobile than on laptop or computer.

The confirmation message for Ignore a user is not too necessary. It is very simple to click on UnIgnore and it is done. Because you know about users you don't want to Ignore, you can UnIgnore them manually and easily.
I think you're right about such occurrence being more regularly with mobile phone users. Sometimes I find myself staring at users I know I didn't consciously ignore. I know my itching fingers would've touched the "ignore button" while I was trying to zoom in or out. I simply undo it whenever I notice that. I've a mental picture of those I've on ignore and if the user doesn't belong there on that list I do the needful. It's not a big deal to undo and I guess that's why there isn't any box to check to do that. Theymos won't see this complaint as an issue. We will all be chasing shadows if we expect he will do something about it.
1074  Other / Off-topic / Re: Some of my Favourite Personal Texts of Bitcointalk Members on: August 05, 2023, 09:00:16 AM
Even many of my countrymen don't know what it means. Anyway, thanks to Best_Change for not requiring us to wear a personal text. A little space is left for something, well, personal.
This isn't to pander to any unnecessary flattery. I like to applaud Best_Change and other campaigns that allow free space for hunters to freely express themselves with whatever personal text they choose. I don't know what projects stand to gain by insisting campaign hunters use avatar texts which in themselves aren't clickable. It doesn't add any more value.

If I remember it right, I put it there when the pandemic was at its most vicious point. I was simply saying, in a single word, that life doesn't stop even in the midst of a pandemic-- or a war or death of a friend or a family or whatever for that matter. It moves on. We carry on.
I've learnt a new word, Padayon!. Move on! My only problem there using it will be on how to enunciate it. From its meaning and your explanation for picking it, I can say it rightly deserves a mention on the list.

Once a man, twice a child!|Mpamaegbu|

I don't own a patent to my avatar text. It's a proverb I picked up way back in high school. It simply explains human life in three stages – the child stage 2. The youth stage 3. The child stage again. The third stage is the old age actually but it's likened to the child stage because here the human brain and its activities aren't as active and coordinated as when they are in the youth stage. That text is a constant reminder to me of the vulnerability humans suffer at old age when they have to rely on others the same way children do. So, that helps me relate with elderly people going through senile dementia or lack of coordination where they've to rely on others for care.

btw, I've been in the crypto space for even longer and been on Bitcointalk since eraly 2016 but forgot my old login data, as I wasn't really checking this forum much back in the day.
You've been here that long but you seem not to have given yourself enough time for perusal or trust information from historical data to make forecast of the future. If there were any skepticism on Bitcoin, I think it's gradually getting dismantled now unlike what we had in the past. I don't see why you still hodl tenaciously to things going wrong while we approach a halving year. Listen, I'm not saying Bitcoin doesn't take a beat up from time to time but I haven't seen that beat up take place during halving or post halving. Anyway, I've said enough already on this from my conviction. Your reality and expectations don't have to align with mine, neither do mine with yours.
1077  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Who be the first Nigerian that joined Bitcoin Talk on: August 02, 2023, 05:02:09 PM
i also found this leo, who i will say he is the oldest member from Nigeria since he registered in 2012
Menh! I doubted dat Leo until I checked and saw he even get post for local sef. I nor go surprise sey e get persin wey enta before him sef dat year wey forum open and still dey post here codedly.

I give it to Brainboss. D guy try to arrange dat owa hangout thread, I nor go lie una. I know how reluctant I was wen im approached me on dat issue. Maybe im go don forget how dat matta take be dat time now. I wanted to just do my stuff without any ish then. Even owa late brother Becky666 follow ginger for the thread then. May God rest his soul.

We nor go too blame those wey no identify with us because e get as here be dat time wen I enta. Una sabi dat kain prejudice thing once outsiders identify you as Naija persin na. Nor be everybodi go fit risk to face mob action like dat wen you dey minority. All man wan protect wetin dey put food for dem mouth, I understand dat part.

I still dey see members wey I know sey dem be Nigerians but dem neva show face for local board unto sey dem wan keep actin foreigner. Some na their usernames dey give dem out while some na their writing pattern. Una sabi sey e get as a typical Naija persin dey take coin words of write English ba, are you understanding me 😆

Those of una wey enta here afta we get hangout thread, una dey lucky honestly. I know d joy wey e give me d first time I discovered one Naija dude through im username. I think Olubams be d user. Na so I rush d dude inbox. We chatted very well, even off forum for sometime. Na dat merit thing wey forum introduced make d dude slack. He come stop posting as soon as im marry. I tried to encourage him to come back but e nor work.

Shoutout to a man like Brainboss!

Nice try but nor be so dem dey take analyse proverbs oh. Nor be plain meaning from d syntactic structure. You get to dig deep and peruse am. For instance now, if I tell you sey "Pikin wey dem carry for back nor dey know sey road far" E nor mean sey dem actually carry pikin for back dey go somewhere but na true if dem still carry pikin for back. Wetin dat particular proverb mean be sey persin wey dem dey help do something nor dey know sey e dey hard. Proverbs get application, nor be d regular talk and just leave am there kind of thing.

It's kind of reckless to just make a statement (marked in italics above) as if it were set in stone.
I don't know how "reckless" you think that comment is when you see something reoccurring over and over. Both of us have witnessed two full Bitcoin circles since we registered here. Your profile tells me that we both got in here the same month. It's also likely that we may have passed through one or two similar experiences as members here, isn't it? So, what makes my being certain that halving history will repeat itself as was in the past "reckless"? Yes, I know this is crypto and there shouldn't be strong hold on certainty but I want to differ on that in relation to halving. Bitcoin will experience another ATH after halving. Mark my word.
1080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 18, holding my bitcoin and looking forward :) on: August 01, 2023, 06:47:44 PM
I am gonna start deciding to sell it at end of 2024 , but I guess i could wait till end of 2025.
I believe you'll be in better profit selling it in 2025 as against 2024. Bitcoin ATHs usually come a year after every halving, looking at past data. 2025 will be that year for a new ATH to be achieved. Nonetheless, OP will be making a better call if you set an exit point for yourself instead of looking for a duration to sell off. Who knows, price may get to your projection before the time and you're off the market. Choose price target over duration to cash out.
