1041  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello, I'm new here. on: August 14, 2023, 08:44:56 AM
~snipped~

Yeah, the same story again.

I don't like to be hard on newbies, and I know that sometimes I have been in threads of this style although more crude, but I don't see a promising future for those who come to the forum expecting us to give them everything on a platter.
You aren't harsh if you've this mindset. I do too. Sometimes I think it's sheer laziness that makes them ask questions that are staring them in the fact right there. I believe anyone genuinely seeking knowledge will be voracious in reading and researching and when I don't find it in these newbies, I summarily conclude they just want to be here for the grab; so to say. Recently, we've seen a preponderance of "I'm a newbie" threads pop up here and there. They can lurk around, study and read comments in the forum and form answers to some of the questions they might have asked in a haste, without screaming they're here.
1042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What should we see bitcoin as? on: August 14, 2023, 07:48:57 AM
Bitcoin the only decentralised cryptocurrency that is dependable and guaranteed return on investment which is undeniably the truth about it.
The part of Bitcoin being guaranteed return on investment is true but that will also depend on when the investor is buying or investing in it. Those who invested in Bitcoin in 2021 at its ATH of $68k+ will tell you otherwise because they're in severe loss at the moment. They've to wait till 2024 or so to recup their investment let alone profit from it. So, you see? It's not all roses for Bitcoin investment too. Just know the time and season before diving in.

On my part, to respond to your title topic, I see Bitcoin more of an asset than a payment option or any other stuff.
1043  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Did you know about AI trading bot? on: August 13, 2023, 06:36:45 PM
~snipped~
The AI I use have a stop lose feature that takes care of that aspect so at that,  there is a set percentage as to how much lose it can take before closing the trade automatically so at the end even on a bad day,  your lose won't be overly significant.
Aw! You're trying to whet my appetite on that one. You're arousing my curiosity further. You're so confident of this? If it's something you will want me to take a look at, is there any one you can recommend? Again, can it be run on mobile phone or simply a PC affair? I wouldn't mind to take a peep at it.

Quote
I haven't seen any success recorded with AI in gambling, as I have seen in trading,  and that speaks volumes as to what difference it is between the casino system and the exchange system and which one is legit or ringed in results.
It simply points to one thing – casinos don't like those who play against them winning. Forget all the glitz and razzmatazz on media of those who win, I always believe it's staged. For all we know, those they parade as lucky winners could be their cronies and they launder cash through them by making them pretend they hit a jackpot.
1044  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Did you know about AI trading bot? on: August 13, 2023, 05:37:04 PM

If all things continue to be equal, AI will continue to be profitable on CEX more than on casinos even though both of them are looking for ways to get his money too
I don't know if I'm just old–school or simply paranoiac as I haven't been able to bring myself to trust Al to do my trading for me. I like it the manual way of doing it myself. Honestly, I feel it's safer to trade and lose it myself to allowing Al trade for me. Als don't have emotions and any sense of judgment that can make them detect when things go awry, especially if a bug occurs in their codes. If there's ever a glitch, An Al is likely to revert and behave in negative to make one incur huge losses. With all the good stories I read about Als I'm still not moved yet to try it out.
1045  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hal Finney's Last Post on Bitcointalk on: August 13, 2023, 03:48:00 PM
Through a link supplied here, I read one of the most inspiring endeavours of a pioneer. Late Finney was truly a genius who lived out his time well before his demise. What moved me most was how he continued to write codes and all that even while sick suffering paralysis. Dude was genuinely passionate about programming and Bitcoin. I think people should read up this thread of his...

Today, I am essentially paralyzed. I am fed through a tube, and my breathing is assisted through another tube. I operate the computer using a commercial eyetracker system. It also has a speech synthesizer, so this is my voice now. I spend all day in my power wheelchair. I worked up an interface using an arduino so that I can adjust my wheelchair's position using my eyes.

It has been an adjustment, but my life is not too bad. I can still read, listen to music, and watch TV and movies. I recently discovered that I can even write code. It's very slow, probably 50 times slower than I was before. But I still love programming and it gives me goals. Currently I'm working on something Mike Hearn suggested, using the security features of modern processors, designed to support "Trusted Computing", to harden Bitcoin wallets. It's almost ready to release. I just have to do the documentation.
1046  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the market still profitable for new projects? on: August 13, 2023, 02:06:19 PM
So my question is: is this market still profitable for new projects?
I guess every newbie who's interested in cryptocurrency will ask this same question out of perplexity. I asked too. A few months after I registered here (2017) I was alarmed when I saw the preponderance of ICO projects being registered on a daily. Those projects were rushing to the market like the industry would soon go out of business. Total listed cryptos when I registered here was around 750 from CMC data. Today, there are well over 10,000 listed coins and tokens according to data from Coingecko site.

If it weren't profitable being in this industry the numbers won't be on a steady increase. To answer your question – Yes, it's still profitable for new projects. It will even get more interesting when the bull rally starts after Bitcoin halving.
1047  Other / Meta / Re: Igebotz Nigerian Local Board Merit Source Application on: August 12, 2023, 06:35:31 PM
Igehhh is a big asset to the Nigerian local board and I believe he will do fantastically well being a merit source. I support him wholeheartedly to achieve that. The user is as jovial as he's meticulous and diligently committed to whatever tasks he sets his mind on. Theymos, kindly attend to this. "Owa" local board can do with that.
1048  Other / Meta / Re: Is resetting a BTT account password bad? on: August 11, 2023, 06:36:08 PM
~
Sorry you mean the same forum that doesn't even verify your information when you register, the forum is one of the platforms that I have registered and noticed they don't give a fuck about anything you do.
As funny as that sounds, it's the truth. There was a time I spent some hours in contemplation on that. Even a common thing as a 2FA or email verification when one logs in, the forum doesn't see any reason to implement any. I mean, that can further strengthen accounts security.

Quote
The forum is opened for everyone and you don't have to be some gurus or over serious person before you think you can register on the forum. The forum might even love the inexperienced users more so it can build them to becoming better cryptopreneurs.
I won't be surprised if that's the mission statement of this forum. I've come to realize that theymos doesn't like anything that will stand as encumbrances to users here. He delays in implementing anything he knows will put a lot of users in discomfort, especially when such is called for by veteran users. I think having more users onboard makes much sense to him than policing harshly those already here.
1049  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: African Proverbs in Pidgin on: August 11, 2023, 05:00:20 PM
Pikin wey dey travel every time go get better sense pass an elder wey siddon for one place.
Meaning: Wisdom isn't bestowed based on age but experience.
1050  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Who be the first Nigerian that joined Bitcoin Talk on: August 11, 2023, 03:21:39 PM
Well, the only people we fit get the accurate answer no fit pass the founders who fit use information submitted  API information as at the time wey the forum start take find out who be first Nigerian for this forum.
You forget sey some Nigerians wey dey dis forum fit dey abroad register and some wey even dey Naija fit use VPN register also?

Make statistics no deceive as many things dey happen underground wey be say na only mehn wey know, know how far so when speaking about Nigerian on the forum, no look date of account creation as it doesn't tell the full stories although e get where we supposed talk stop make we no spoil our brothers hustle.
Like sey some people reincarnated, ba?

Anyway, na true you talk chook there. Even till date sef some people still dey avoid gummy body with d rest of us unto make dem nor begin know dem as Naija peeps and those ones go don dey here tey tey.

~snipped~
Then why do you want to make Pidgin mandatory for Nigerians when English is our official language.
I thought this issue don dey settled long time ago? Why resurrect it? Yes, English na owa official language but we sabi how flowery, peculiar and sweet wey pidgin dey be for mouth and na wetin make some of us then supported pidgin. I follow people wey sey make we use pidgin only but as majority voted sey both King's English and pidgin should go together, we settled for that. That supposed be bygone by now na. Abi e get something wey I dey miss here?
1051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Are new altcoins being too risky? Current market trend on: August 08, 2023, 07:28:14 PM
Please share your opinion.
That a coin/token is top on the list doesn't mean it can't still disappear into thin air overnight. That shouldn't be a yardstick for picking a project to invest in. Well, maybe in the past so many of us thought it was the needed pointer but recent events over the past few years have proved that to be wrong. It's not a yardstick any more. Apart from Bitcoin, ETH, XRP (Nee Ripple), Dogecoin and Litecoin, other coins currently on the top 20 on the list weren't even there seven years ago. Most of those on the list then have either collapsed or are now not favourable investment picks any more as they've lost steam and are nowhere close to the top today.

On general, crypto investment is risky; whether with old coins or new ones they're all risky. Bitcoin isn't exempted from that risk too. The one advantage Bitcoin has over others is its ability to recover whatever dump it suffers during bear rally. Other coins may not survive the bad moment.
1052  Other / Meta / Re: Is resetting a BTT account password bad? on: August 08, 2023, 03:00:42 PM
I know it may be added as a security measure like scam or buy-sell accounts, etc. But when a person sees that message, he or she may get a bad impression of the account. He or she may not trust the person, or the account may not get much interaction. Because I chanced password, now I'm tagged with that message.
Password reset isn't in anyway a bad thing except there's something one is hiding from the public glare. We do it on other sites we visit whenever we suspect something fishy with our accounts. Once I get at OTP (I ain't talking about here) on any site I use but didn't ask for it, I know someone what's to access my account without my knowledge. The next thing I do is reset my password. It simply tells you that they've broken your password but couldn't get pass the 2FA on that account. If with time you feel your password has become too easy, it's better changing it. It doesn't mean it's a bought or compromised account.

1. I'm a custom ROM user. So I have to factory reset my phone in order to test the new build. I recently flashed several Roms to test.
(Clean flash is mandatory to avoid bugs)

2. I don't have any second devices. So I can't just have it logged in on another device.
You should make it a priority to get a second device then so you can separate your ROM duties from every other ones where you don't have to constantly reset to test stuff.

3. I easily forget. One time I even forgot or confused my username because I used 0 (zero) instead of o in my username.
Solve the problem by writing out your username on a piece of paper, if you don't have a digital notebook.

4. I always think of BTT as a highly valuable platform. I'm in fear that my BTT account would get compromised someday if I saved my password in an online place.
It's not a wise thing to do, whether with BTT or any other site. The old fashioned way of paper and pen still remains the best method of saving passwords to the best of my perspicacity, anyway.
1053  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best way to DCA 1.000.000 $ into Bitcoin on: August 08, 2023, 02:41:38 PM
So, the question is: btc price is for example 29k. I open a limit order to buy for 50.000$ at a limit of 29.1k/btc than there is no way that my order gets filled above 29.1k - Is that right?
To put it right, what you seek isn't a DCA method but how to place an order. I have yet to see where an order opens ahead of the price set for it. However, we can't for sure trust these exchanges that they won't manipulate price to get it filled before its level. By the way, why would anyone want to put that much into buying a coin and then set the price above its current rate instead of setting it below to be picked up during correction? If price were at $29k and I'm certain I want to go in, I would rather place my buy order below $29k at an available support level. That's the best way to go about it
1054  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION] Multiple Users Self-Moderating A Thread. on: August 08, 2023, 02:26:50 PM
for some reason couldn't come online for a long time...

What do you guys think?..
This is the only reason I think this stands a chance of making sense, if at all it should. Otherwise, it's redundancy. That only reason for me could be in the event of the OP's demise or complete incapacitation. Other than that, I don't think there's a need for it. Whenever OP comes online they can moderate their thread and do the needful. What if the other mod(s) deletes what OP believes (while still active) is constructive and before anyone could say Jack it's gone? What of such happening? Wouldn't that bring friction between or among OP's co-mods?
1055  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are memecoins tarnishing the image of crypto? on: August 08, 2023, 01:51:20 PM
Memecoins don't tarnish any crypto image. You can hate them for all you want but their presence provides hype and excitement in the industry and invariably help draw the attention of the public to cryptos. Yes, we know most of these memecoins later become worthless but that isn't before it leaves some wealthy as it leaves others poor. Those who are usually trapped in losses are those who think they can turn the worthless coins to Bitcoin in value. If anyone has to invest in memecoins, they should know they're short term investment; usually a kind of "hit and run" thing in my local parlance.
1056  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ~If you must trade~ on: August 08, 2023, 11:45:53 AM
I was having this strong contemplation, between emotion and patience which factor affects traders the most.
Everything about and around trading revolves round emotion. Patience is an attribute of emotion just like crying, excitement, anxiety, joy, depression, loneliness etc. Anyway, I get your drift in trying to make a dichotomy between both. If anyone is able to control their emotions and not trade on impulse, we're still saying the same thing about patience. It's often said that patience is a virtue in trading. Nothing kills a trading plan faster than the lack of emotional control.
1057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Happy to reach 50 merit on: August 08, 2023, 08:05:36 AM
Earning merit is really hard this days...
Really? You should've been here in 2018 – 2020 and then make a better judgment in comparison. There are so many members who want to aid others now in as much as these others are willing to put in efforts in churning out posts on point unlike what transpired in the past. In the past members were given neutral tags by certain DT members for what they termed "shit-posting" by their own judgment. I don't think we still have them now. I guess there's a renewed and more lenient sense of judgment on stuff now by those DT members who were unapproachable in the past. Perhaps life happened and a new awareness set in that makes them now see things differently. Whoever complains of merit being difficult getting now isn't doing much active posting and in the relevant sections of the forum.
1058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammers are getting innovative. on: August 08, 2023, 06:57:35 AM
~snipped~
I experienced this by finding inboxes from strangers who told me to open the link and take my prize.
This is a big turnoff for me. Once I get any business proposal inbox without me being the one who initiated it, I know it's obviously a scam waiting to happen. How people fall for such cheap orchestration where they're held by the strings like puppets by people they may not even know beats me hollow.

Quote
Even though I didn't enter any contest at that time. scammers always promise to give me lots of profit with just a few BTC or ETH coins I can send.
Scammers know people easily fall for freebies and that's because greed is universal. Those who want to reap where they didn't show should've themselves to blame if they're hoodwinked. Why would anyone believe a random person would throw money at them just like that for free. There's something beneath such Greek gift and everyone who's offered one should find out what is hidden under it.
1059  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: exchanges with lowest fees and lowest spread on: August 07, 2023, 05:48:42 PM
I don't understand why do people mind the crypto trading fees while you can possibly get it back if you win a trade. Fees in crypto is a little bit higher compared to forex but both of them will not reach 1% trading fees of the capital. If you have a working trading strategy and with a good risk management you can handle those fees. So it's doesn't matter if the fees is high or not, what does matter is to make sure that you always follow your trading plan with risk management to be profitable.
You're right. Those who make it a priority with what fees are charged trading are those who aren't too sure they can make a kill trading. Otherwise what should concern every trader is the security of their funds on exchanges they use and their ability to withdraw whenever they want. What's the benefit having little or zero fees charged for trading when the trader can't withdraw? There should be a call for traders to pay more attention to important things on exchanges than meagre fees charged trading.
1060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone explain how $1000 btc turned to $100 in wallet on: August 07, 2023, 04:54:13 PM
What happened is that most likely you got scammed, they sent you $1000 worth of BTC with low fees you released an escrow or paid something or sent your coins and then they simply replaced the unconfirmed transaction and they sent you $100 probably as cover up to claim in a dispute that's the amount you agreed on!
This should be what transpired. That's if OP was truthful with what they said happened. Otherwise, one would conclude that OP is just trolling since they still haven't presented a simple thing as the TX ID for that transaction to buttress their story.
