only 6 slots on mobo. How you plan to use 8 cards?

Since this is a super duper special mobo, it's got new technology on on called AMD AeroTesla which is able to establish a wireless connection to Radeon 5xxx series cards.

How? search the forums for pcie extender cables.
4082  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: FPGA vs GPU? on: August 04, 2011, 01:04:41 AM
When the difficulty reaches high enough and electricity costs make it a complete loss to mine on video cards (operating cost), FPGA/ASICs will come into the picture.

It's going to be all about Mh/J by 2013.

Of course, we've yet to see what happens to Mh/J with 28nm (and lower, as they come out) GPUs.

Sweet!!!
4084  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Growing Mh/s discrepancy on deepbit, showing about 1Gh/s less than actual? on: August 04, 2011, 12:00:34 AM
i thought it's normal...apparently not.

it varies around 200-400mh/s for me, but the btc output seems correct.

It easily varies by 1G for me...
4085  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Growing Mh/s discrepancy on deepbit, showing about 1Gh/s less than actual? on: August 03, 2011, 10:56:46 PM
I see similar wild swings on my numbers too.
4086  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 03, 2011, 08:20:24 PM
so you want me to use a MOBO with 2 PCIx slots?

And with this comment, I will not entertain anymore of your posts until you spend a good day reading as many posts as you can to learn first, then ask good questions later.
4087  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 03, 2011, 04:41:52 PM
So let me get this right:

step 1)  buy 4 video cards that are not readily available, and the ones that are easily exceed your claimed "price"  (at least 200 a piece)
step 2)  buy 1250 Watt PSU, 4 PCIx MOBO, processor, RAM under $420   Huh
Step 3)  profit!

Foolproof.

3) I seriously doubt that you will ever profit!!!

2) no need for 1250 Watts.  if you are so bent on having 1250 Watts, then get 2 650-750 Watts PSUs ($140 total).

1) I bought 10 5850s last week for $1,492.64 (includes shipping) from ncix.com. you have to look for deals.  alternatively you can use 5 5830s as well (at a good price).

4088  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 03, 2011, 04:12:49 PM
How can you possibly get 1500 MH/s for $1,000?  I would love to see where to buy this setup.  In fact, I will take 5 completed systems if you can do it at that price.

5850s:

These can do 400 MHashes each, so you need 4 @ 145 = $580 I personally bought some last week at this price.  you just need to look for them, they become available sometimes.   (you could also do 5 5830s if you find them under $110)

Can you fit the rest of components into $1000 - $580 = $420 (!) ?  I bet you could without breaking a sweat.

There you have it.  Go build your 5 systems.

Does it work if you unplug the 5830?  You probably have done this already, but if not, give it a try. If it works when 5830 is not powered, then this will suggest a possible motherboard setting that's disabling 1x port.  shorting the pins on it may work, as suggested above, if it doesn't it may be a limitation
4090  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: estimating/calculating hash rates for FPGA chips on: August 03, 2011, 03:04:21 PM

Smiley  thanks!  I'm very familiar with this page

I was thinking along these lines:

if I take x number of some fpga chips, assume a bunch of other things, here's how to do a rough estimate on the expected hashing rate....  That's what I'm after.  I can't find that post...
4091  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Resting Your Video Card on: August 03, 2011, 02:41:15 AM
Us miners smack the crap out of our hardware, pounding the video cards for weeks at a time. Here are some to
tips to maintain the health and lifespan of your hardware:

1) Take periodic breaks for mining. Perhaps every hour in 12 should be "down time" with no mining.
2) Try and keep the room extra cool, perhaps put a fridge in the mining room with the door open
3) Provide your card with warm up and warm downs, gradually lowering GPU speeds
4) Avoid getting foodstuff, jam etc, in your hardware. Same goes for drinks
5) Cigarette smoke has been shown to damage fan parts - don't smoke fags near your PC if you care!
6) Take the occasional weekend off, only playing minesweeper to calm your video card.

Anyone gots any more tips I'll be glad to add them to the list.

0) Stop mining.  Put all those cards back into their boxes and stackem on a bookshelf.  You will have a long lasting "library" of cards that should outlast you and can be passed down to your heirs.
4092  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / estimating/calculating hash rates for FPGA chips on: August 03, 2011, 01:28:27 AM
I seem to remember seeing "back of the napkin" calculations regarding arriving at what a hashing rate would be of a particular fpga/chip.  but I can't find that post anymore...

Can someone point me in the right direction/location for this please?
4093  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Ebay Resolution Center experiences? on: August 02, 2011, 11:09:55 PM
don't waste your time with all these resolutions even if you win a month later...

I say this since you have AMEX.  there is no BS with them.

I have first hand experience with AMEX and similar situation.  they are excellent.

don't let your money earn interest for someone else while in useless ebay/paypal disputes.
4094  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Opinions on blowing air directly onto 6990's on: July 30, 2011, 11:56:21 PM
I have 2 6990 in one rig and am using 450 cfms blowing directly on them from top.  i leave fans on auto with this... runs quieter than setting 6990 fans to a higher constant rate.
4095  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Risk of damage from extreme memory underclock on 6990? on: July 30, 2011, 11:31:56 PM
So are you saying that you run your 6990s at 150 memory now? impressive if so!
4096  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5830 + arctic silver? on: July 30, 2011, 11:27:18 PM
I just received my RMA XFX 5830 back. They gave me the older style with only 2 heat pipes. The newer one that I bought had about five. Anyway, in my machine, the new style consistantly stays at about 59-60c while the older style is always 10C (or more) hotter. The newer style is at 80% fan speed and the older one is at 100%. It's a pretty big difference.

I saw a thread somewhere about someone who took the older style heatsinc off and put artic silver on. I was wondering if anyone has done that and what results they got.

I've been able to reduce my fan speeds and the temp is in mid 60ies which is quite fine...  the fan may last longer for you at lesser speeds.
4097  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Another (fishy?) site selling 5850's for cheap. on: July 30, 2011, 11:25:33 PM
Get screen shots in case you need to file a dispute, however, you can simply refuse delivery and when insight gets them back, they will refund you.

You "may" not get a refund for the shipping charge right away, but once you dispute with your cc, you should get that amount back as well.
Finally, if you must, file a BBB complaint and see how fast insight resolves everything.

You shouldn't have any problems with Insight though...

Don't know. I'm not good with anything regarding legal stuff. All I know is original link is 5850. Shopping cart is 5850. Final review is 5850. Email with order confirmation is 5850. Clicking the link in email for order stats shows 6570. :/

I'm going to have my credit card company cancel the charge or whatever it takes to get my money back if this is for 6570's.

Refuse delivery and you'll get your money back.

I'm a bit disappointed in Cablesaurus.

I must say, for a business that depends on the Bitcoin mining world, they don't seem to be doing much to promote direct Bitcoin spending.

They are only paying 12.14 for BTC, when the Mt. Gox price is actually 13.51!

So they're giving you 90% of the actual value of your BTC.

Sure, they accept Bitcoins -- but they should be PROMOTING Bitcoin use by giving you 105% or 110% of their value -- not 90%!

WRONG. DIRECTION.

I'm sure many others besides me have said this -- if we business owners want to be free of the shackles of Visa/MC/Paypal, we're going to have to help Bitcoin off the ground. Giving customers 10% off would go a long way toward that goal.

Not charging them 10% more!  People will never use Bitcoins if every business does this. I actually mine BTC, but I'd never spend them if I got 10% less goods with them vs. cash.

I think they're hedging against currency fluctuations... this is the easiest way to "protect" against a drop. but, don't take this as me defending them...
