421  Economy / Speculation / Re: When the all time high gets smashed on: February 19, 2017, 05:41:37 AM
The short term floor of over $900 does kind of indicate that the ATH will go pretty soon.
The price is always volatile, so much so that long term staying withing $300 of the ATH without passing through it at some point is unlikely.

Each bubble seems smaller percentage wise than the last. I don't think that $2000 will be breached in the next bubble
422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin "The end of inheritance tax" on: February 17, 2017, 10:46:35 PM
Why do your kids deserve to start life privileged without having to work for it?
Do you think it makes them better people by being born rich? Do kids that are born with poor parents deserve to be disadvantaged?

Anyway: did your post have anything to do with Bitcoin? Are you sharing your private keys with your kids or are they in your will?  I rekon most Bitoins will be lost when the owners die (making Bitcoin deflationary)
What does this have to do with being priviledged? People (parents) work hard for their money and pay taxes on it within their lifetime.
I don't see anything wrong with them wanting to give their kids a head start in life and imo inheritence tax is just not fair, especially on low amounts of money.
If you have the money to leave to your kids; or your parents left, or will leave you, money; then I understand why you see inheritance tax as a bad thing. I don't see that the kids have done anything to earn that money, and I don't think that rich family dynasties are fair or good for society.

The only way to level that out is to have a tax on inheritance, unless they ban inheritance altogether, but that won't happen.

I also don't believe that reparations for historical events are fair either by the way, but maybe you do and if your family had slaves you will offer to pay reparations, I mean accepting the positives from your family history, but rejecting the negatives would make you a hypocrite wouldn't it?
423  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Will Spike Over 65% After Winkelvoss ETF on: February 17, 2017, 10:37:11 PM
Is there any explanation on why we can expect only 65% and why not 1000% because I am expecting a huge spike around the approval of bitcoin ETF.

I believe that it is not going to be just how much investments it is going to attract and direct proportional to bitcoin prices. It is all about hype which is possible due to the promotions bitcoin will get among any investors and tech people who understand the real benefits of bitcoin and its investment possibilities.
Why would a new way to buy something that is already relatively easy to buy increase the market cap by $130billion (more than the value of Mastercard, nearly the value of coca cola)

I would expect a small boost in price, maybe 10%, then if the ETF starts to accumulate Bitcoins, the long term price pressure would be positive for the price.

SLV and GLD are generally considered to be very bad for the price of physical PMs, I am not sure that a Bitcoin ETF will be quite the windfall that people expect.
424  Economy / Economics / Re: Snapchat IPO being offered to the publlic right now! You think it will be succes on: February 17, 2017, 10:24:19 PM
I am apparently too old for Snapchat, my little sisters have told me that they use it, but it seems to me like it's USP is that the messages disappear after a certain aamount of time (tell me when I am talking crap), but you cana take a screenshot making the whole ideaa pointless...

A pointless idea isn't worth $20billion in my opinion, so I don't think it will be a success.  Where and how will they make profit?

Facebook is actually doing pretty well, the adverts are actually sometimes worth a click too. I don'T know enough about Snapchat, or think that it is ubiquitous enough to justify it's high value.

426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Swiscoin is a Scam? on: February 17, 2017, 09:22:48 PM
I haven't looked at swisscoin recently, but it is an actual ponzi isn't it?
The price is irrelevent, people move the market to entice people in, then they will either steal your money, or dump their coins.

Just ignore it, it really isn't worth putting any thought into.
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coin will give us good gains in case ETF gets passed and BTC goes to moon? on: February 17, 2017, 09:18:57 PM
I don't think any alts will fly if Bitcoin doubles in value but I would be inclined to look at something like Counterparty.
XCP is based on the Bitcoin blockchain, so could profit from bitcoin's further success.

I don't think it will rise in Bitcoin terms though.
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: People really are falling HARD for the Chronobank scam on: February 15, 2017, 05:59:31 PM
I just joined the signature campaign, there will be no risk if chronobank really a scam, just a waste of time. Roll Eyes
But you are happy to advertise something you think may well be a scam?
That is morally grey at best, definitely not friendly to try to rope people into a project that you feel might be a scam.

I saw the facebook adverts and read up on Chronobank. It might well rise in value, but it is an idea that will never actually work, so long term it is pointless.  It just depends if Polonie adds it or not, if it does then it will pump and the ICO investors (those who them quickly dump) will do well, otherwise I expect that no one will do very well out of it.
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1 in a million on: February 15, 2017, 02:27:43 PM
being one in a million is one of those interesting topics in bitcoin if you ask me. we all know that there will only be 21 million maximum bitcoins available (ignoring the number of coins lost).

so if you have 21 bitcoins you can be one in a million.

now we all know there are 7.5 billion people in the whole world and there is a very limited supply of bitcoin available.

The following is the cost of being 1 in a million throughout the past years.
* bubbles are ignored and price is average

Year|21BTC cost
2008-2010|Practically free!
2010|$3.7
2011|$84
2012|$188
2013|$2,200
2014|$9,030
2015|$5,670
2016|$12,117
2017|$21,210 Today's price

when you look at things like that, they seem pretty ridiculous that once you could be 1 in a million with only 3 bucks but today you have to pay 21 grand to be 1 in a million

It is really ridiculous. I guess you are just inventing your own price for bitcoin, because your price for each year to bitcoin since it have started is very far from the real price that it have hit since it have started way back then. If I am not mistaken, the highest price that bitcoin's have reached was $1200, and not $21,210, I wish it would come true this year, but it is too good to be true, but who knows right.

Maybe this price that you have mentioned will fluctuate next year, or next next year, or in the near future. Let's just continue on using and supporting bitcoin until this thing happen, let's just hold it for now and wait for the right time. Smiley

You either don't score highly for reading comprehension, or for actual comprehension!
There are 21 million potential Bitcoins. To own 1 millionth of them, you need to own 21 Bitcoins. The cost of 21 Bitcoins is (was when he posted)  $21,210.

No prices were made up.
430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Etherum Price not affected by etherum Projects? on: February 14, 2017, 02:57:45 PM
I was surprised that the news around the Microsoft led Ethereum group didn't hike the price at all.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-09/microsoft-others-said-to-form-group-backing-ethereum-blockchain

Any thoughts?
The price already went up due to these projects.  The fact that the first major project badly failed seems like it should have a more long lasting effect on the price!
Will banks and microsoft really start using smart contracts for real money, when the DAO was cracked in a few days and needed a hard fork to save Ether?

How many hard forks will they need to keep all the new projects running smoothly?  I would wait and see before assuming that good prospects become actual good projects,
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it Bitcoin Price Volatility that Really Made Fiverr to Drop Bitcoin? on: February 14, 2017, 02:54:17 PM
It goes to show again, that Bitcoin isn't really a great currency.
The cost of transactions and low number of possible transactions shows that clearly.

For moving large amounts of money internationally, it is great. That is the direction people should be looking. There are major companies making a killing off money transfers, Bitcoin should make them obsolete.  I can pay for stuff online with fiat, bitcoin adds nothing, or very little to that transaction for me.
432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Central Banks & Bitcoin - What if they start accumulating? on: February 14, 2017, 02:51:30 PM
I am interested in thought on this topic,  hypotheticals:

1)  What if a small / medium / large country central bank begins accumulating

2)  What are the chances of this ever happening?

3)  How much would they buy?

4)  What would the effect on price be?

5)  If it is a 'rogue' nation,  would it kill bitcoin?

IF a country started accumating, unless it was a very small and poor country, the price would be driven upwards.

I don't see it happening, central banks are selling off everything they have, I don't see them buying lots of Bitcoin!

If they did buy, it would be little for them, but massive amounts for the Bitcoin world! Like 1 billion, so nothing, but a massive chunk of the market cap!

A rogue nation wouldn't be a great thing, but I imagine that authoritarian regimes won't like freely traded cryptocurrencies!
433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Zcash worth to invest in it? on: February 13, 2017, 08:01:26 PM
I agree that Zcash is starting to look a bit more interesting at $30. Certainly much better than at $300 or $3000!
I will wait a while and see what happens, I have a feeling that we might see $20, but there will be some sort of bounce at some point.

I don't base that on the coin itself, just the price movement. For what it's worth, I also think LISK will be pumped at some point.
434  Economy / Speculation / Re: New down trend. $1000 definitively broken. on: February 13, 2017, 07:57:43 PM
Today we've permanently broken the $1000 barrier and are staying under it.
It seems a new down trend has been set for the foreseeable future.

With China cracking down on Bitcoin quite hard and people realizinf Bitcoin can technically and economically hold nowhere near the value it has now, a new panic wave has set in.

Will the community take control and continue to develop bitcoin for the future or will we see more dramatic years spiraling down and down?

Definitively? You mean it is $995 and was $1000 about an hour ago?

I am not feeling very panicky at the moment. A month ago when the price fell $250 in 15 minutes, I was a bit panicky, but floating around the $1000 mark doesn't worry me too much!

If it does signify the start of the end, then it was a good run and nice while it lasted. I doubt it though.
435  Economy / Speculation / Re: PBOC really wants to keep the price of BTC suppressed it seems on: February 13, 2017, 07:52:04 PM
I don't think the PBOC gives a tiny little rat's bottom about the price of BTC.
I think they want to be able to control their monetary supply, which they can do at the moment, but won't be able to do it Bitcoin really takes off.

That sounds like a good reason to hold bitcoin back, the price doesn't really matter to them, but if it starts to actually be used, then we can expect some sort of firewall!
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bloomberg Starting come round to bitcoin? on: February 13, 2017, 07:49:44 PM
Basically all investments are crazy ideas that slowly become trusted ans seen as serious.
Why is shiny metal worth so much? Why are hard and shiny stones worth even more?  Other stones are nearly worthless.

Bitcoin has gone past being a short term fad, or a bubble, so will be seen as an investment opportunity. Maybe not a mature one, but an option anyway.
437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold Price Parity Watch on: February 10, 2017, 08:02:54 PM
Strangely even though it is completely arbitrary, it almost seems like gold parity has been some sort of price cap in the past bubbles.
In 2013 we almost reached parity (i think Gox managed it, but that doesn't count). In 2017 we were withing a few dollars, but again, just as parity seemed assured, pop went the bubble.

Maybe people are waiting to swap their Bitcoin 1:1 for gold ounces (I would swap a few), but people are beating them to it with a few dollars to go, or maybe it is just a coincidence.  We will see next time, hopefully at about $1800 Smiley
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LinkedIn Killer? Bitcoin Upstart 21 Takes on Social With Email Play on: February 10, 2017, 07:00:57 PM
Cryptic bitcoin company 21 Inc has launched a paid email platform that seems far removed from its initial focus on hardware.

Its possible to get the bitcoins you earned to your bitcoin address/your coinbase account or simply donate them to a charity.
Find more : https://21.co/ or http://www.coindesk.com/linkedin-killer-bitcoin-upstart-21-takes-on-social-giant-with-paid-email-play/

What are your thoughts ? I personally find it a good idea but I doubt anyone who is not famous will be able to use it and earn from it.
Why are people going to pay to send messages to people, when you can do it for free on LinkedIn?
I only looked at the homepage and haven't signed up, but it shows a profile and says you can message them for $5.

That might work for a dating site, but for career development it is a sellers market.
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should governments allow people to pay their taxes in Bitcoin BTC? on: February 10, 2017, 06:57:12 PM
If you pay your taxes in Bitcoin, they would immediately ask you to pay taxes on your Bitcoin too!
Working out your taxes on your Bitcoin is/will be a pain in the ass, so I would rather just pay my taxes with fiat and not have the IRS snoop into my Bitcoin affairs!

I don't see any advantage to using Bitcoin for paying your taxes anyway.
440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: When will monero bear market end? on: February 10, 2017, 06:54:04 PM
When did it start? The market cap was only briefly higher for a few days early in January (during the bitcoin mini bubble)
Otherwise Monero is near all time highs, hardly at the end of a bear run!

Barring the blip at the start of January, it looks like a bull run to me.
