1161  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ukrainian Bitcoin Exchange Reports Hack on: May 08, 2015, 12:34:07 PM
i don't think a small exchange like that can harm the market too much, they are talking about a loss of 30 btc, which is a joke basically

private estate exchange like this are only more vulnerable, users should just stick with big known exchange, they are usually more secure, besides the incident of bitstamp

Bit markets like Ukraine are exactly where good exchanges are required and public confidence in the security of their Bitcoins is also needed.
Look at how badly the currency has performed since the start of the crisis in Ukraine, even with the huge USD drop in BTC price, they could have bought bitcoin and saved a large amount of money.

I also happen to know that there are currency controls in place and that it is difficult to send or receive money in Ukraine now, I hope the exhcnages there get their act together and start to build a market there.
1162  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo mining lottery on: May 08, 2015, 12:30:34 PM
It's definitely not 1PH/s.  You can solve the equation yourself and figure out how much hash you need to have in order to expect to find a block in a week:
Code:
47643398017 * 2^32 / hash rate = 604800
Hash rate = 338338023070975.95
So, you'd need to have about 338TH/s.

Thanks for the calculation. I really suspected this value to be much higher, I guess it's just bad luck when pools that have this value or more do struggle.

While I don't completely get the math, I do have to ask about the word "expect". Does that mean a 50/50 chance in the week? 95% chance, or what? We've obviously seen pools with 2+ PH that have gone 50 hours between blocks (i.e. bad luck). So it would seem that even with 500 TH you could easily go a week without hitting a block.

That's why I ask about your level of "expectation" in a week (i.e. confidence level).
50% chance, meaning that on average you will find one block per week if you have 338TH/s.

Of course with 500TH would would on average 1.47 blocks a week or a block every 4.7 days or so, but it wouldn't be outside the realms of possibility that you would go a week without mining a block, in fact it is more likely that you mining 2 blocks in 2 days..
1163  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] BIT-X.com | Exchange BTC, LTC, USD, EUR, GBP | Instantly Mine & Trade GH/s on: May 08, 2015, 12:26:24 PM
Guys, I always tried to log in into Bit-X using "Call me now!" feature as I didn't receive any SMS confirmation code through them ever...
But today, even that thing ain't working and I can't log in into my account as I ain't getting any calls too from them...
What should I do now??? Can you guys (Bit-X) resolve this for me???
I would also like to suggest that you guys please remove these stops as due to these, we ain't able to log in to our accounts, instead why not try to integrate a code thing which we only know or something like 2 Factor Authentication???

You must wait around 30 seconds to be able to click the call me button.

Feel free to switch to Google Authenticator in your account settings.
I can't get google authenticator to work for me.  I have it set up for basically every account I have that has anything to do with bitcoins, but for some reason it always says that the code is wrong when I try it on Bit-X.com.

I don't mind the SMS login though, as long as there is a reasonable 2FA available it should be safe enough.

Any update on QR codes?
1164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I let my last credit/debit card expire this month on: May 08, 2015, 12:18:50 PM
My Amex card expired last year, they may have sent a new card but I don't live there anymore. I'll get around to officially turning that one off, I've had an Amex since '97. I called a few months and cut off my Mastercard and verified that my Bank of America card was turned off.

That left me with my bank's debit card. That expired at the end of April.

I still have my bank account, I have a rental with direct deposit into my bank account and I turn around and pay my mortgage from there so I haven't taken that final step to close that account. Plus I figured I can just use my bank account to buy/sell bitcoins until they shut down my account like they do with so many people.

I do have a deutsche bank account card that I use to deposit cash into my account. I tend to get more through localbitcoins than I spend so I just convert the extra cash back to bitcoins so I don't have to turn people away who want to buy bitcoins with cash.
Are you going to try to live off Bitcoin, or is it poor organization from you that has let you have no cards anymore?!

I don't see cards as the problem, I mean there are bitcoin debit/credit cards, I see the fiat system as the problem.  If you have a fiat bank account (pretty much a necessity) then you are still in the system.
If they do shut your account because of your bitcoin trading, what will you do then? Can you get paid in cash or bitcoin? If not then you are going to have some major difficulties!
1165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: why i'm mining namecoins while i'm off it i want to mine bitcoins not Namecoins? on: May 08, 2015, 12:14:03 PM
Hi ,

why i'm mining namecoins while im off it i want to mine bitcoins not Namecoins ?

That i Mean , I started Today

Sorry, I don't really understand your question.

Are you asking why when you are mining Namecoins, you have not mined any bitcoins?  If that is the question, I would guess that the relative difficulties means that you have less than a Satoshi in Bitcoin, but have a very small amount of Namecoin already.  Unless you have only been mining for a few minutes, I am not sure it is worth your while!
1166  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fox News manipulation machine kicking into gear on: May 08, 2015, 12:11:08 PM
They've started already. Looks like we know who Fox News is pushing for this election season.

I would say that they are trying to make it look like a certainty that Hilary will be the democratic candidate and that they want to have a "anyone but Hillary" campaign.
They don't seem to be backing anyone specific from the Republicans, or maybe I am completely misreading this!

Is it really a certainty that Hilary will be the Democratic candidate?
1167  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Marital Rape a Crime? on: May 08, 2015, 12:08:26 PM
Maybe in some parts of the world.
Times are changing. Public opinion might make laws change.
i care nothing for public opinion or man made laws. marriage means the woman submitting to the man, end of story.
In my experience it is usually the Man submitting to the Woman in a marriage!

As a more serious response to you, you are an idiot.  Whatever non-man made laws you think you are following are also man made rules.  In this case it is very clearly Man made too as only an idiotic man would think that a woman should submit to him in a marriage.
1168  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [VOTE] UK General Election 2015 on: May 08, 2015, 12:04:37 PM
I am a conservative.  I think that they have done a good job in a bad situation over the last 5 years.

They could have been more extreme, as UKIP would like, and have slashed budgets and stopped immigration, but they didn't.  They could have spent more money, as labour would like, and have us on a similar footing as Greece, but they didn't.

I think they found a good middle ground.  There were also 2 referendums, and the promise of one more, I think referendums are true direct democracy and should happen much more often.

I'd give them a solid B+, which would make me vote for another term.
It seems that when push came to shove, the British people agreed with me and decided to give the Tories another shot at it.

The other parties have all taken a beating today, with only the SNP, PC and the Greens keeping their leaders!  I feel sorry for the Lib Dems, I included them in the B+ grade for the last government, I hope the Conservatives don't lurch to the right now that they are in sole charge.
1169  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoins speculative value as a capital control bypass tool on: May 08, 2015, 12:02:10 PM
Apparently diamonds are increasing popular for just the reasons that you stated.
The 1% can't carry $1mil of gold with them when they fly to their island, but a $1mil diamond can easily fit in your pocket and doesn't beep when you go through the metal detector either.

I agree that bitcoin works too though, but diamonds would be the current alternative.
1170  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do we pay so much when the same function can be performed by a few Satoshis on: May 08, 2015, 11:59:45 AM
Im asking more about why the demand for satoshis is so high when one can buy ample amount to perform all functions that BTC provides with just a few thousand satoshis.

Its like if 100 grams of gold did the same job as 1kg, you would not need to buy 1kg right?

Unless of course you only bought it as an investment.

But that wouldnt make sense because if only 1 satoshi was 1 cent every bitcoin would be worth 1 million dollars and there are 14 million bitcoins so far so in total the value would be huge around 14.000.000.000.000 so it would be impossible

That is only right assuming that the mining would only mine 25,000 satoshis, instead of 25 bitcoin.  Otherwise miners would be making millions all of the time.

It is the same as any other physical mining defining the price (within reason).  The plus point is that satoshis future proof bitcoin, as the value will and cann never be so high that something cost less than a satoshi.
1171  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes on bitcoin? on: May 08, 2015, 11:54:43 AM
Yes you have to pay the same taxes as if you were paying in fiat currencies. You can save on the exchange rate if you are buying in a different country though.
If you had a capital gain (unlikely) from the purchase, then you would have to pay tax on that too.

There must be precident of people buying property with commodities..
1172  Economy / Speculation / Re: SURPRISE! Dead cat bounce. on: May 04, 2015, 07:48:23 PM
It was $222 a week ago and $240 at the moment.   Huh

That is a greater increase in price than any other thing I can think of. Any stock, commodity, fund, precious metal. Can anyone think of anything that has rallied so much in the past week?
Hey I'm a bull, but lets face it, I haven't checked the price in the last 45 seconds so for all I know we have lost that $18 rise again in a flash crash!

Volatility is a bad thing about Bitcoin, it means that people can always come on and say that it has had a great week or a bad week, but the long term trend is much more important, and unfortunately that is down down down Sad
1173  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm selling GOLD below bullion prices, but holding BITCOIN! $400 this month! on: May 04, 2015, 07:45:16 PM
Feeling bullish.

Can I buy your bullion for below spot please?

You could sell it here on bitcointalk or on eBay for quite a bit over spot, so I assume you are talking rubbish or have got a bit excited and have gone to a "we buy your gold" shop somewhere for quick cash.  Both bad ideas in my opinion.
1174  Economy / Economics / Re: The banks should be repealed on: May 04, 2015, 07:43:00 PM
The system replaced? Then what happens to all the elder people or people who been enslaving to work for their money held in the banks?

Do they just say oh well? There needs to be a measurement, for the banks  within their own from a third party to say you are crossing the line step back until you pay the balance like how they issue our credit to us as well.
Those people are just going to be inflated out of their money or have their savings stolen at some point in the future anyway!

I expect the transition to a new system will be fast, but old fiat will have to be transferred into the new system somehow.  I don't really know how it worded in the past after hyper-inflations happened, but it would probably be the same again this time.
1175  Economy / Economics / Re: Play of the Century on: May 04, 2015, 07:34:56 PM
So, I'm thinking how can this sham economy keep trucking.

Then I opened up the 5 year dollar index. If this isn't a bubble I don't know what is!

http://quotes.ino.com/chart/index.html?s=NYBOT_DX&t=&a=&w=&v=dmax

What do you guys think the best bet against the dollar is if you don't want to do forex type stuff?

I see there is a triple short etf

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=udnt&fr=uh3_finance_web&uhb=uhb2

I'm wondering if it'd be a good play or not. Then I was talking to guys at work and they are like you are going to get payed back in dollars though lol.
I agree that the dollar is over-valued, but a triple short seems a bit drastic to me too!
Things are teetering at the moment, the US might feel obliged to raise interest rates, but I doubt they will be able to keep the rate up for long without suffering badly.

As soon as they raise the rates, I would short the dollar, it might well be that they bottle it and don't do it, but if they are stupid enough to, then pile in!
1176  Economy / Economics / Re: Euro area QE euphoria is fading and the ECB is too upbeat on: May 04, 2015, 07:31:24 PM
Things have been going pretty well in the eurozone since QE started to be honest.
€/$ was getting very close to 1:1, but since then confidence has returned and it has gone back to 1.11 or so to the dollar.

The bunds yields have increased, peripheral yields are low, there is money sloshing around now!  The DAX, CAC and FTSE are all very high, QE has painted over the cracks very efficiently, until it all comes crashing down in a few years time!
1177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: javascript CPU webminer on: May 04, 2015, 07:28:29 PM
Hey, where can I find a script to add to a webpage to enable CPU mining?
I saw a calculation that showed that all of the CPUs in the world would only be a small percentage of the mining power in the world now.

It isn't going to be worth your time or electricity to CPU mine, even if you have millions of CPUs, unless you have some virus that mines in millions of computers without being noticed, but that isn't something to be recommended!
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could bitcoin IOUs replace actual bitcoins? on: May 04, 2015, 07:25:47 PM
I think there probably will be fractional reserve banking in place with bitcoin, there is also leveraged trading with bitcoin now.
In a perfect world, there wouldn't be any more than the number of mined bitcoins available to spend, but it isn't a perfect world unfortunately.
1179  Other / Off-topic / Re: Milestone - i've earned 0.5 BTC on: May 04, 2015, 07:23:41 PM
It's good that you've earned 0.5BTC, but $120 over 4 months ins't exactly time well spent if you have been putting in serious hours!
Faucets and sig campaigns are good, but they can only be used as extra tips or hobbies, they really aren't a get rich quick scheme!

You have a lot of patience though, I hope it works out for you in the future when bitcoin really takes off.
