1401  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Holding Gold at BitReserve, yes or no ? on: March 20, 2015, 01:11:46 PM
Let's say I buy and hold 50BTC worth of gold at bitreserve.com .

Gold spikes over night 100% compared to BTC. How will bitreserve have 50BTC more to pay me morning after?

Most people who own gold will tell you, if you don't have it in your hand, you don't own it.  I agree with that statement.
I would however assume that Bitreserve either buys the gold (unlikely) or buys GLD (more likely) with your bitcoins, otherwise there is no gold involved in the process!

Can you not ask them exactly how they invest in gold with your Bitcoin?
1402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You can buy Bitcoin in Austria at nearly every corner on: March 20, 2015, 01:09:16 PM
I live in a small town in Austria (~10,000 residents) - went to a tobacco store today.

They are advertising bitcoinbon on TV screens, just like in this picture someone posted to reddit.
That is really cool.  Do you get the exchange rate at the time you buy the coupon, or when it is redeemed?
I don't really understand how it works, but it is a very nice and easy way to buy bitcoins.

Do you need to show any ID when buying the coupon?
1403  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dadice.com Signature Campaign Discussion Thread [POLL] on: March 20, 2015, 11:57:18 AM
As you can see, I am not a member of the Dadice campaign, but I find the conversation interesting anyway.
I think really, you need to tell us what Dadice want to get out of the campaign, rather than us telling you.  Obviously as signature users, we want to be able to post as often as possible and get the highest returns possible.  I assume Dadice wants to get their name associated with trustworthy forum members and high quality posts made on boards that will encourage users to use Dadice in the future.

To that end, I would say that a minimum post count isn't useful for you.  A maximum is useful, as it is near impossible to post more than 100x a week and not have a lot of filler posts, even if they are not spam.
Weekly/monthly makes no difference really, I personally find weekly better as I don't have to worry about the company running away having had 3+ weeks of advertising, but it isn't a game changer if the campaign is trustworthy.

Fixed rates won't encourage good quality posts, making counting stricter would be good, but would take a lot of your time and would require the payment per qualifying post to be increased. Counting more liberally will only increase the spam levels.

For what it's worth, I hadn't heard of Dadice until the sig campaign started, I haven't used them yet, but might in the future.
1404  Economy / Economics / Re: Sweden walking around in the dark on: March 20, 2015, 08:09:35 AM
There is an immigration problem in Sweden, it's about young entrepreneurs who are moving abroad of this communist country because of the tax and regulatory burden. The country is a terrible failure for the young who would not dare do anything outside of the umbrella of the nanny state. So the few braves are leaving and I guess that someday there will be only civil servants left in Sweden.

Deflation will just move the country quicker to a standstill.

I am no socialist, but I think it is better that taxes are high and services are good, than the middle road that most countries go, middle taxes, crappy services
The other option of having very low taxes to allow the rich to screw over the masses, i.e. the American system, also doesn't really appeal to me.

If they do have a big immigration problem, it will be because it is doing so well as a country.  I can imagine a lack of entrepreneurialism being caused by the system, but when I have been there it always seems pretty forward think, especially in comparison with Germany.

1405  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitVC Ceases Litecoin Futures Offering to Focus on Bitcoin on: March 20, 2015, 08:04:38 AM
http://www.coindesk.com/bitvc-ceases-litecoin-futures-offering-to-focus-on-bitcoin/

Quote
Futures trading platform BitVC has announced it will no longer offer litecoin futures to its users, as it shifts its focus to bitcoin.

The platform, a subsidiary of Chinese exchange Huobi, said that the decision was taken "due to a lack of user demand", and the "growing consensus that the world will only have one cryptocurrency value".

I don't know if there will only be one cryptocurrency in the future, but I am 100% sure that litecoin won't be one of the major cryptocurrencies of the future.
It is a bit faster than bitcoin to confirm, otherwise I see almost no innovation.

Primecoin, peercoin, NXT and many others have lots of interesting new aspects about them. Litecoin doesn't. Good call by BitVC, concentrate on the central market being sucessful, then look at peripheral markets.
1406  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Who likes saving up to 35% on Amazon? I DO! on: March 19, 2015, 08:00:38 PM
My experience of Purse.io is that the Bitcoin buyers are scammers (3 purchases 1 scam) and that the customer services won't be helpful to look out for you if you are in a bad situation due to scammers on their site.

How did you got scammed actually? Do they provide escrow? Were you a buyer (exchanged your BTC for amazon stuff)?

I ordered something, paid with Bitcoin, the buyer bought it and it was delivered, but then they claimed it hadn't been delivered and got a refund leaving the company out of pocket.
The company then got in touch with me to say that they will have to contact the authorities as I haven't paid for the item that arrived.  Purse say that I shouldn't worry though, so it's ok.  I'll say tell that to the judge when I'm in court.

So you didn't get scammed, the company did.

I'd also say you got nothing to worry about, just tell them the whole story. They fucked up by giving the guy a refund. Why would they do that if the item has been delivered at the address provided by buyer and I assume it was signed for upon delivery.

They won't start any legal action (unless it's a small seller and it was high purchase), although they should, but they should be chasing the scammer not yourself.

The company got scammed, but they have proof that they delivered a product to you that you didn't pay for, so they will go after you.

I know, I have spoken to the company, they know that I haven't scammed them, but if and when they report it they will go after both me and the buyer, they will have to.  Apparently as they are an Amazon marketplace company, any refunds are done automatically.  I actually didn't know about the situation until I got a letter asking me to sign to confirm non-receipt of the item.  I immediately contacted them to tell them that I had received it.

You can argue the semantics of who has been scammed with me, I would just say that the stress of dealing with it and the threats of legal action, along with the complete lack of support from Purse.io here, are not worth the discount available. For what it's worth, the item cost 140€, so I saved 35€.  If push comes to shove, I will probably pay the 140€ to the company to avoid court. Like I say, it's not worth it.

but it was just about luck if aguero scored the penalty it would have been a draw, but just bad luck, terrible play also from man city they didnt even deserve a win,but juventus was a great pick they won 0-3,great team!

It was bad luck that Aguero missed the penalty, yes.  It was good luck that Barca wen't already about 5-0 by that time though.
I think it was fair enough that Man City lost, I wouldn't be claiming bad luck!

I expect more of the same from them in the CL next season, except they will have a different manager!
1408  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Keep track of your bitcoin savings with Coin.co on: March 19, 2015, 07:48:26 PM
That actually sounds very good, and the screenshot looks good too.  I have a few wallets and would like to have an overview of them all.
I just opened an account and see it is actually for businesses though, it is also only for America, or at least not Germany.

You could have said that to start with!
1409  Economy / Economics / Re: Sweden walking around in the dark on: March 19, 2015, 07:35:23 PM
Sweden can't go on the way they are now forever. I've heard they are giving ridiculous amounts of welfare over there. If they did this only for swedish born people it's maybe ok if they can afford it, but all that immigration will make the system collapse guaranteed.
I don't think that they have problems due to their social security, that is fairly normal in Scandinavia, they pay high taxes and have lots of services, it's a very successful system there.  Immigration doesn't seem to be much of a problem either.

In this case their problem is that they are doing so much better than the eurozone, so need to purposely mess up their currency so that it doesn't massively appreciate against the main trading partners, thus they punish people for buying Krona.
1410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Victims of Mt Gox Incident Where Are They Now on: March 19, 2015, 07:28:52 PM
With the vast numbers of Bitcointalk forum members, is there anyone here who was one of the users of Mt Gox when they went down?

The Mt Gox incident remains to be the biggest 'scam' to date.

I read some stories about it, and I think it has become a popular story to tell for Bitcoiners all over the world.

Anyone here?

Only 0.8 Bitcoins lost here, I deserved it though, I deposited and bought bitcoins when they wouldn't allow any withdrawls.
I knew I was taking a big chance, and I lost.  I still think I might get about 0.2 BTC back from it one day, who knows how much bitcoin will be worth when that happens, maybe I'll be in profit!
1411  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: solo mining with 70 - 100 ths ? on: March 19, 2015, 03:44:08 PM
calculator say 1 bitcoin a day on average, so a block in 25 days on average

i would try it, everything that can get you a block in less than a month it's worth trying
If he gets a block in an average or slightly longer than average time, that will be a soul destroying month of waiting with absolutely no return!
I personally wouldn't mine solo with such long expected gaps between finding blocks, I would be too paranoid that I had a setting wrong, or something wasn't working etc.

Maybe mine in a pool for a while, then when you are happy enough that everything is working perfectly, switch to solo mining, but I wouldn't be able to do it, but then I am not the luckiest person in the world, so would expect to take over a month before getting a block.
1412  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Looking to get started with mining what to buy? on: March 19, 2015, 03:38:52 PM

I'd like to make some cash so i someday could make the money back.
Maybe buy another one or so Cheesy

Unless your electricity is free, don't mine! Even with the most expensive and most efficient ASIC miners, you will not see a ROI if your electricity costs are much above zero.
If you can use the heat given off your miner as a by-product, it could also be worth your while, otherwise seriously, save your money and buy some bitcoins if you fancy want to get involved!

Sorry if that isn't the answer you were hoping for.

Well i could pretty much get free electricity ( Solar power! )
and i have noticed that alot of chinese miners are investing everything they have in miners right now. That makes me thinking positive about it, well i think that i should invest in miners and " mine " small amounts now and with the hope that the Chinese people were right!

Well, if bitcoin goes under 100% then i'll go on and mine an another coin.
Do you have unlimited free electricity, or essentially unlimited anyway?  If you do, then go for it and invest what you have into miners.

I believe buying second hand would work out cheaper, especially as lots of miners are turning off at the moment.  You can probably swoop in and get a good deal from some of the others on the forum who have recently given up.

1413  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any Tips for getting a Start with Bitcoins? on: March 19, 2015, 03:31:25 PM
Heyyo, Ive been around bitcoins for a while but it's still very confusing for me. Ive only managed to gain $.18 in BTC. Any way you guys know how to safely invest and gain, Or just gain?

I have been around fiat money all my life, but I still don't have too much of that!
No one is going to give you bitcoins for nothing, you will either have to advertise, work, gamble or invest.

If you don't have any bitcoins to start with, and aren't able or willing to buy any, then you will have to advertise or work to get them.
There are quite a few websites with small jobs being paid in Crypto  - this is the only one I have heard about though http://work4crypto.com/
I don't know if it is any good though.

Good luck, remember though, Bitcoin is just money, you still have to earn it if you want more of it!

FTFY.

I liked Fat,sick and nearly dead 1, and fat head. Both about nutrition, both from different sides.
If you like US sports, the ESPN 30 for 30 series are really good.  Catching Hell and Slaying the Badger are my favourite 2 that I have watched there, they are both on youtube.

@Jaysabi - I will watch Inside the Federal Reserve, it sounds interesting, thanks for the tip.

Is there still way to make money on mTurk even if my country is not included in their program?
Ok, I'll bite, mainly because I think you want to explain it to the class.
What is mTurk? A very quick google shows it to be Amazon marketplace but crowdfunded, is it like Kickstarter?

I thought the point of crowdfunding was to start a business without needing banks, not to get money out of it by hook or by crook...
1416  Economy / Services / Re: A small survey for 0.005 BTC on: March 19, 2015, 10:03:55 AM
I hope i'm wrong but now he has an i.p. address with how many BTC you all hold.  Shocked
Not me, I filled out the survey on a different PC to where I have my bitcoin core, and now where I access any exchanges or web-wallets.
I think it was probably just a survey to find out some opinions of the bitcoin community, I would be very surprised if he could scam using that infomation, even if he wanted to.
1417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goldman Sachs Report Says Bitcoin Could Shape 'Future of Finance' on: March 19, 2015, 09:26:12 AM
Goldman Sachs ends up destroying many of the things they promote, but they will not be able to do that to Bitcoin.
Goldman Sachs are all liars
Goldman Sachs are incredibly schrewd, they might make statements to move markets in their favour and do some morally questionable work, but at the end of the day they make money, even when markets are going downwards.

If I was a banker, I would want to work for them.
I am happy to see they see a big future for bitcoin, I'd rather have them with us than against us!
1418  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BEST SOCCER/FOOTBALL BETS !ODDS ARE ON YOUR SIDE!!!#BEST ✔✔✔(W60/L18) on: March 19, 2015, 09:23:23 AM
MATCHES FOR TONIGHT!!

1st match
Barcelona   -   Manchester City

DOUBLE CHANCE X2
Odd:3.05

2nd match
Dortmund   -   Juventus

DOUBLE CHANCE X2
Odd:1.70

3rd match
Partizan   -   Jagodina

Partizan wins
Odd:1.25

good luck!
Going for City away to Barca, brave! I will be going the other way and backing Barca, I just haven't seen the abilty to play in Europe yet from Man City.
I like the Dortmund double chance bet though, they just aren't very good at the moment, it will catch up with them sooner or later in Europe, as it has all season in the Bundesliga.

city finaly needs to do something in champions league if they dont do it,why did they bought so many players
so expensively...it would be a shame...it will be a good match

I hate to say I told you so, but ... I told you so!
Man City aren't that good, especially in europe.  Dortmund have overperformed in europe this year and were ready to lose when they played a well set up team.

Man City keep spending lots of money, but who have they bought who is top world class? Yaya is and so is Aguero and David Silva, but they have all been there for years now.
1419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You can buy Bitcoin in Austria at nearly every corner on: March 19, 2015, 07:21:46 AM
600 Läden und "an jeder ecke" ist doch etwas anderes. aber trotzdem nicht schlecht  Smiley
Austria is about 1% the size am USA, so it would be like having 60,000 bitcoin outlets in America.
I think that classifies as "an jeder ecke" oder? nicht buchstäblich aber...

I think the same thing is already available in the UK, but the bitcoin economy is still pretty small there, I hope it helps the Austrian's BTC economy more.
1420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A potentially very stupid question.... on: March 18, 2015, 08:13:02 PM
Hello all,

I'm fairly new to Bitcoin and very new to these boards. I've begun trying to learn as much as I can about the currency, and the more I read, the more questions I have! Honestly, this is the funnest learning experience I've had since I figured out that you could throw jelly and it'd stick to the wall Tongue

The part I am having the most difficulty with is the whole "Is Bitcoin deflationary etc" thing - trying to get that figured out in my head, coming from a background of absolutely no economics knowledge whatsoever.

So, my (probably daft) question is this:

Why is Bitcoin structured so that the amount of coins mined reduces? Would it not make more sense that the number would be low in the beginning and then rises with the difficulty? A sort of more work = more reward thing?

I'm pretty sure that I am missing a BLATANTLY obvious point here, but I'd much appreciate enlightenment.

Thanks Smiley

Ist.

It would punish the early miners and as such would probably have meant that no one would try to improve the miners.
Crypto as an idea is supposed to be different the normal fiat currencies that are inflationary i.e. bad for savers and good for those who aret stupidly risking their money on risky wall street trades.  It's money for the people.
