681  Economy / Economics / Re: Factors That Make One Cryptocurrency Worth More Than Another on: May 16, 2016, 05:08:18 PM
From an economic standpoint, which factors make one cryptocurrency worth more than another?

1) current number of coins
2) maximum number of coins
3) rate of growth in the supply of coins
4) how many people/businesses accept it as a form of payment
5) total number of users
6) technical aspects of the protocol
7) number of exchanges that allow conversion to other cryptos or fiat currencies

Discuss.
Assuming you mean overall value of all the coins.
1) no, look at Doge
2) no, many are unlimited
3) inflation is important yes, but PoS coins aren'r really effected
4) yes but they are almost all very low
5) yes
6) yes
7) unfortunately yes.

I would add that speculation is probably worth much more than almost any of your points.  Bitcoin is the only coin that has a real value, and that would be pretty low.  The speculative values of all others are what decide the prices, thus why they fluctuate
682  Economy / Economics / Re: Actually the bitcoin market is very small on: May 16, 2016, 05:05:21 PM
The market is small for a global market, yes, but that doesn't mean that it isn't scaleable or able to become a global currency.
You could easily take your statement and switch it around.  The cap is only 7billion, it should be far more, so the price should rise a lot!

I don't see bitcoin being the global currency, but it could be a means of moving money globally, that would still need a far higher cap than 7bill though!
683  Other / Politics & Society / Re: London's mayor is a muslim! on: May 16, 2016, 05:02:41 PM
So much for the people saying that Britain shall leave the EU for fear of a muslim invasion from the continent. The muslims are already inside, and they are winning elections. But considering the British have caused so much havoc in the Middle East, creating the Iraki kingdom with a foreign Sunni king no local wanted, creating Israel against the Palestinians, I guess it's only justice that muslims conquer London today, and the whole of the UK tomorrow.

The UK is doomed, and I certainly won't cry for it. My worry is that the EU is being caught in a squeeze between muslim Britain and muslim Turkey.

I think you are mixing up the UK with the US.  People don't really care too much what religion you are in the UK, they just want to be able to control the number of people who come in as we are pretty overpopulated already!

The US and other countries seem stuck on the fact that most immigrants are Muslim. That they are Muslim isn't the main point in my British eyes, it's just the number.  As for Sadiq Khan, as long as he does a good job, I don't care that he is a Muslim, rather an Atheist, but if he has to believe in stupid stuff, I don't think Christianity is any better or worse.
684  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 'Brexit' could trigger World War Three, warns David Cameron on: May 16, 2016, 04:59:41 PM
People claim that the Eu has somehow prevented wars, but if you look at other parts of the world that aren't in the EU, they haven't had any/many major wars either.

The EU hasn't prevented catalonia wanting independence, or Scotland.  It didn't stop war in Europe when Yugoslavia split up.  Ok Western Europe hasn't had a war with itself, but it didn't from the end of the WW2 until the EU starting either!
685  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin prices jump to $600+ in... on: May 16, 2016, 04:56:30 PM
Before the halving would seem reasonable, I think there might be a bit of expectancy of a rise, which will cause the price to rise.
As they say though, buy the rumour, sell the fact, so in this case you should buy up until the halving, then sell as soon as it happens.

The price could well fall back donn straight after, when everyone notices that it made very little difference really!

I have been offline most of the week, but see that we are behind with the payments again.
I think I just might have to accept that the money comes when it comes, rather than stress that comes late every week.

In fairness, they have always paid, so as long as they do, I guess everything is ok.

Edit, payment was received already, just the excel is behind now.
687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Europa League/Champions League Lounge on: May 16, 2016, 04:51:54 PM
I do think that Liverpool will win the Europa League, so get a CL place.  I don't think Götze should go to Liverpool though, I mean why would he!?
He would be better off going to Man City if he is bored of winning the Bundesliga already, but he needs a club that can win the CL really.

Why couldn't he go to Spain?  I could see him being good at Real.
688  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: OFFICIAL EURO 2016 Information, Discussion and Tips Thread on: May 16, 2016, 04:49:42 PM
I am getting pretty excited about the euros already.  The premier league was great, but given that my team Newcastle got relegated, it wasn't a great season for me personally, though Leicester winning is a brillian story.

The euros could be interesting from an English point of view.  They aren't as skillied as the Spanish, Italians or Germans, but they play a fast paced game and can hit them on the counter.  I just hope we don't disappoint and go out in the 2nd round, which would be par for our last few tourmanents.
689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: May 16, 2016, 04:47:05 PM
LvG has NOT done a good job rebuilding anything!  He has spend hundreds of millions to get a worse position that they achieved last year!
I think basically any manager in the world could have done as 'well' as he has.

If they are stupid enough to keep him on, maybe the next 1/4 billion that he spends will help them into the top 4 again.  If he doesn't get them playing interesting football though, he should be gone pretty soon.
690  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you ever caught yourself thinking Bitcoin is AMAZING? on: May 16, 2016, 04:44:36 PM
I only think that when I look at how badly run fiat currencies are, and how difficult it can be to know if PMs are real or not.
I have never really utliized bitcoin to it's full extent.  I mean for transferring money internationally, or to someone who doesn't have a bank account, so I haven't had a wow moment in those regards.

It is pretty amazing technnology when you think about it, and the alts that have come since the start of bitcoin haven't offered anything amazingly better than Bitcoin, so it is pretty impressive.
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The DAO questions on: May 16, 2016, 04:41:24 PM
but it is kind of an investment fund. Someone else will decide how your 'money' in invested.
You can call it what you like, but I would say it is an Ether investment fund, hopefully for investers it will be a well run one!

If they invest in the alts sphere, it will be very volatile.  It could be very sucessful though, for Ether and DAO if Alts rise and are taken a bit more seriously.
692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TPTB_need_war Bitcoin Fork in the making! on: May 16, 2016, 04:38:26 PM
He might be a randon guy, but he knows his stuff.
I don't love the way he gets his point across sometimes, but his points are usually worth listening to.
693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Wallet on: May 13, 2016, 01:03:02 PM
If you download the ETH wallet, then good look keeping it up to date!
I didn't open if for a few weeks, I am not sure I will ever catch up now.

It processes blocks at about 10 per second for me, and it usually just stops after a while meaning that I can't just leave it running until it catches up...

My laptop isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either (Latitude E6220)
694  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin to be international currency on: May 13, 2016, 01:00:18 PM
If you mean it to be an international currency in the sense that everyone in the world will use it, internationally, then I don't think it will happen.
As a transfer mechanism internationally, Bitcoin is great!  Why are people paying moneybookers and alike when Bitcoin allows money to be moved for almost no cost..

695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Theymos: “Bitcoins Belonging to Satoshi Should Be Destroyed” on: May 13, 2016, 12:58:22 PM
I might have missed something here.  How would already existing coins somehoe result in a large inflation?
There have been around for ages, they are a known quanitity, they have nothing to do with inflation.

Also how are they going to get stolen, is he saying that a persistent thief can crack a bitcoin wallet?
696  Economy / Economics / Re: General Panama Papers Discussion on: May 10, 2016, 05:49:36 AM
The Panama papers really do show just how complicated and dodgy the world of finance is.

I find it hard to believe that some of these very clever people who are hiding money all around the wolrd to avoid paying taxes on it haven't looked at Bitcoin and at least researched the technology.

How are they going to track someone's money if it is moved into Bitcoin and hidden?
697  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs blockchain reach on: May 10, 2016, 05:44:56 AM
As far as I am aware, Bitcoin was the first utilization of Blockchain technology.
Bitcoin has the most secure Blockchain and is not controlled by central authorities (for better or worse)

New blockchains that are popping up everywhere will be less secure and easily changeable.  Bitcoin for me is THE blockchain, the others are just blockchains.

I've received the fund will process it today !

Good to hear, but I notice you aren't wearing the Bitvest avatar / signature anymore, is there anything we need to know?
699  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: if i give you 1 000 000 PPC what will you do? on: May 09, 2016, 05:32:34 AM
let themstake a couple times then trade for better alt coin

So many Noobs around nowadays.  Peercoin is a good coin, ok it hasn't been involved in the recent Alt boom, but it was one of the biggest coins 2 years ago.

It's a PoS coin too, so the price falling is less of an issue for holders, as they will have their coins inflate along with the price fall.  It also doesn't have people buying very expensive ASICs or using loads of electricity to keep the blocks moving, it will be around as long as the internet is, even if no one ever uses it again.

If someone gets 1,000,000 PPC, then consider yourself very lucky. It will probably hold it's value much better than the majority of other johnny come lately alts!
700  Economy / Speculation / Re: What you do if bitcoin reach 5000 $? on: May 09, 2016, 05:14:00 AM
I will kill my self because i have just 0.32 btc  Cry

Oh so you want the price to go down so that your 0.32 BTC is worth less?

That would be the logical answer, if the price rising 11 fold would make you want to kill yourself.  You would be very happy if the price went to $40...

Or you are just never going to be happy...
