Half way through reading this, and it is shocking stuff. Validates a lot of what MA has been saying about the political elite. Downright shocking if what Varoufakis says is true, and I don't have any reason to disbelieve the guy.

I'm glad that I found this thread. I'm trying to catch up now.

Anyway, I found this quote from that interview particularly interesting:
"So what we have is a non-existent group that has the greatest power to determine the lives of Europeans. It’s not answerable to anyone, given it doesn’t exist in law; no minutes are kept; and it’s confidential. So no citizen ever knows what is said within. … These are decisions of almost life and death, and no member has to answer to anybody."

This does not shock me as much as how they acted as described in an interview by Yanis Varoufakis. In that they totally ignore any reason outside of their ideology or agendas.

Hi Luc (and fellow BTCers),

What course of study would you recommend for a novice analyst with less than one year trading experience? I'd like to make trading my full time job but the amount of information out there is overwhelming. It's often hard to separate the wheat from the chaff (lunar cycles anyone?). Any advice would be much appreciated.

There are way more experienced individuals out there than I, but I started with some Martin Pring presentations on the basics of TA. His books are also very informative!

I really doubt that. Price went up because bitcoiners believed in grexit. It dropped when a solution showed up and it will fall more since a solution is there now. I dont see it going up now.

Though im not a pro trade.

I believe that the price went up speculatively because of the grexit, not because people were preparing to use it in greece or even try but because people finally had an incentive to learn thoroughly about it and that was an opportunity for wide spread publicity in a new light. You cannot un-do the publicity that bitcoin achieved in that period of time and the effects of that are yet to fully unfold. It's been said that the deal is not a solution to the problem and smart people are realising that the grexit is for now only postponed. Do you think they will choose to buy bitcoin before or after their bank accounts are frozen?

I think it mostly were bitcoiner, so traders, that believed in an effect of grexit. I mean we knew it worked with cyprus already and it worked with grexit again. I dont think greeks had a lot to do with that. More speculators in bitcoin area.

And the greeks have been brow-beaten kind enough to extend and pretend even further to test and see if bitcoin reacts in a similar fashion when they inevitably have another crisis. This next one has gotta have debt write-downs (finally) right?!

446  Economy / Goods / Re: Coin Making Guide print book on: July 19, 2015, 08:51:18 AM
I just want to vouch for this book.

I have read it and found it very interesting.
I think any physical cryptocoin collector should read it to get an insight on the process behind making custom minted coins.

If you are considering to produce your own coin then can this book save you some time since you can draw on bigtimespaghetti experience.
He focus a lot on how to get from idea to finished product.

I got the pdf version directly at bigtimespaghetti at a very reasonable price.

Thanks TookDk! Thanks again for the great feedback. I tried to make it concise without too much waffle- the original document was a little larger, but with help from my lovely editor I feel it gets to the point of the important things Smiley

To all those that preordered- still finishing off the manucfaturing so I don't think it merits a message. The bars are being laser engraved along with the latest run of Gox coins. Going smoothly so far!
449  Economy / Speculation / Re: Critical Levels - EW analysis on: July 18, 2015, 06:25:57 AM
Exactly phoenix, couple this with the average Greek IQ which I believe is around 92- so low end of average on the bell curve, how many average older people would even begin to look into bitcoin? Many older greeks don't even have cell phones! I don't think there will be many greeks pouring into btc. More likely they will be buying anything of value very quickly, like food or cars (which there is evidence for). But since a 'deal' has been reached, we will probably have to wait a few months for the whole ridiculous dance to begin again. Finally, a lot of the people lining up at cash machines are probably pensioners- which have to wait for regular payments to come through anyway. How anyone can have any faith in Greek banks at this point is beyond me.

Sorry for remaining OT a little!

A solution?? Throwing out the democratic vote of OXI to sign on to a terrible deal that caused riots in the streets is not really a solution. The greek people still don't have monetary freedom, and that's the issue. No grexit, no big deal; none of them will ever trust a bank again. They are all candidates to become bitcoiners.

Might be but traders seems to believe that the solution now is there and all will go like before. And i would agree. Merkel will never let greek exit since she fears others will follow.

A Grexit might mean a hard time for greek but, i believe, iceland already overcame such thing and ist stronger than before now.

That's what I thought originally too- but are they only just now considering removing the captial controls enacted during the crisis? I'm not sure how much that reflects on their recovery.

453  Economy / Speculation / Re: The divine investment advisor on: July 14, 2015, 07:33:15 AM
So true...

You only hear about the Warren Buffets and Donald Trumps.
You don't hear about the losers who did the same but failed and live in the storm drains.

You always hear the guy winning the lottery.
You never hear the millions that lose regularly.

Statistically, sure there will be individuals with the worst luck (google multiple lightening strikes or most unlucky). But when it comes to achievement, unless you are restricted by your country- NK for example, you can fail and fail, but you are likely to at least be moderately successful.
454  Economy / Economics / Re: EUROPEAN OFFICIALS SAY NEW DEAL REACHED BETWEEN GREECE, CREDITORS on: July 13, 2015, 06:27:10 PM
they reached an agreement, yes. but how long will their "solution" last. will we face the same greek drama next year like we have now?

Within a year I imagine. What these proposals are, are madness.
455  Economy / Economics / Re: EUROPEAN OFFICIALS SAY NEW DEAL REACHED BETWEEN GREECE, CREDITORS on: July 13, 2015, 06:10:57 PM
For how long?

I don't know the details, but if it as the press reports, it will be hard to sell this to the Greek people.

Does that surprise you ?
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/?_r=1

Yes I am surprised, this appears to be an attempt at can kicking and German's saving face to their public. Funny how Krugman is even appalled.

457  Economy / Economics / Re: Advice on buying a house (Netherlands, Amsterdam) on: July 13, 2015, 07:54:38 AM

I'm as conflicted as ever. But I hope this thread can serve as a good reference for anyone else considering this.

Just kind of interested in the purchase prices
If you bought the house in February versus July did the price change because of seasonal variances as it could save more money to buy the flat in the off season and then have a bit more of a buffer for cyclical periods.
(Well average price since most houses would not be on the market for that long)
Renting the house as a property or put it on Airbnb as mentioned is good at generating income on the property the other factor would be determining the prime lending rate and then to try and enter when the interest seems low with a long lock in for amortization.

This was essentially my attitude to begin with- low interest rate locked with generally high private rents in Ams- you can lock rates for up to 30 years in Holland. Prices have raised slightly since I started looking- probably due to seasonal variance (more on the market) and investors sinking money into rental.
458  Economy / Economics / Re: Advice on buying a house (Netherlands, Amsterdam) on: July 12, 2015, 07:22:55 PM
There is nothing to be conflicted about. Europe will collapse into the abyss over the next few years.

These guys will lose their shirts.

Every 309 years serious shifts come. The end of the severe minimum in the sun spot activity was 1715. Thus 1715+309 = 2024 will be the start of a slide into a new minimum in sun spot activity.
Seriously bad shit can result.
We are headed into really bad and difficult times.
The main upside is we are more technologically advanced by now, so we can cope well if we get organized with the Knowledge Age.
the future looks indeed rather grimm.
I'm interested in opinions on how that 33%-50% famine would play out. Would food prices simply rise until the bottom third can't afford the necessary calories? how much of an increase would be needed for it to get that bad? at what point does food scarity affect public order(when does it go from 'go to bed hungry' to 'starve because death squads are roaming outside')? would it be just another tv drama for eu+usa citizens or would they suffer too?

Perhaps study of Bosnia may be relevant.

Food scarcity would seriously affect western nations- it has been generations since they have experienced such hardship. Will this truly happen with advanced farming techniques and GMO though?

Speculation aside, more bankruptcy claims are being made- which gives the impression at least that the initial deadline did not garner as many claims as expected, which in turn means there must be something left sitting with the bankruptcy official in Japan in charge of the investigation/liquidation.
