4581  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, may be a custom title please. on: April 12, 2020, 05:24:38 AM
A sort of badge would look nice. Or the account name could be boldened to make it stand out more in a thread.
Also, sending personal messages or creating a flag against such accounts should be disabled to avoid unnecessary activity.
...
Theymos could come up with a list of possible actions and have them voted on. Or maybe a community wide poll with certain restrictions to avoid spamming, just like the one we had during the most iconic thread selection.
4582  Other / Meta / Re: What are "reserved" posts? on: April 12, 2020, 05:08:39 AM
If you notice, it's usually done as the first reply (or first couple of replies to the original thread). This way, the author reserves a spot at the top of the thread for updates and announcements.
Everyone may not go through the OP multiple times looking for little changes, the reserves spot can be used for this

It can also be used by people applying for a service like a signature campaign. They may not have all the requirements for the application format, so they post a reply to reserve a top spot while they fetch them.
This is not so important as not many managers use the 'first come, first serve' method.
4583  Other / Meta / Re: POLL: Initial merit provided to older established accounts on: April 10, 2020, 05:16:44 PM
I'm voting undecided, and I'm choosing not to make a decision.

Merit spending is said to be subjective and one can give it to any post they think deserved it. If we are going to question whether or not the early posters (individually) deserved the airdropped merit then we can also argue on individual merit transaction done after the launch of the merit system.
Some users contributed immensely to the growth of the forum and some chunked out shit posts and raised their activity. Even though it's more difficult to rank up now, some would argue that merits still gets given to undeserving posts.

Someone may have done it differently if given the opportunity, theymos chose the algorithm that most suited the system at that time. It was/is subjective.
4584  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Using Market Cap to Determine High & Low of Market on: April 10, 2020, 03:06:42 PM
Not exactly sure what he meant by that but was checking to see if anyone is aware of how the cap can relate to highs and lows.

What is market capitalization?
It is a measure of the worth of a company, stock or a currency (like Bitcoin). It can be called the market value.
Mathematically, it is the product of a share price and the number of shares.
Over 18 million bitcoins has been mined so far, so it's market cap, would be that sum multiplied by the fiat value of Bitcoin at that time.

This parameter should be useful in checking the worth of one investment over another.
You should note that the value can give a wrong impression of the actual worth of a currency.
For example; if an altcoin which was just launched has 1 million coins in circulation, and fakes a couple of orders, so it appears to be selling at a market value of 1 dollar; it's market cap would be $1 million which is far from the true worth of that currency.

So it's not a reliable way to compare various currencies, and absolutely cannot be used to judge the next high and lows of a particular currency.
It's dependent on two factors as I said above: the supply and market price. The market price is relatively constant, so the main variable is the market price.
If it's dependent on the market price, it cannot reliably be used to check for future prices.
4585  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 24 Hour High and Low & 24 Hr Volume on: April 10, 2020, 02:45:47 PM
When a crypto chart shows 24 hour high and low, does it mean high/low from midnight last night or does it mean the high/low within the last 24 hours from the time you are looking at the chart?
AFAIK, Within the last 24 hours.

Similarly, when it shows 24 hour volume, is that from midnight last night or is it the volume for the last 24 hours from the time you are viewing the chart?
Also within the last 24 hours of the time of viewing the chart.
4586  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin' Escrow System And the Bank System on: April 10, 2020, 02:42:00 PM
~snip~
I'm not an expert in how it works behind the scenes, but on the surface, they look pretty similar to me.
I've not used PayPal, but I've received payments on Upwork, and their payment option allows one to receive the deposit from the buyer if the service, pending when the service is done and complete the payment. In case of any fallout during the transaction, they chose the best appropriate step to take, based in the information provided.

A banks functions similarly, except that, it's a walk-in service, while most fintechs are digital services.
You should also note that banks are more regulated by the government, so you should double check the legal status of a buyer and a seller in an escrowed transaction in your country.
4587  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's longest time have you been without 'deleted post' message? on: April 10, 2020, 02:25:05 PM
The last I can check by going through my most recent PMs is about 2 months and 10 days. It was my current run, before I had a couple of posts deleted on the gambling discussion board.

I should probably have a longer period if I check back long enough, but I went through a period of inactive sometime last year so cannot factor that in.
4588  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin' Escrow System And the Bank System on: April 09, 2020, 09:40:31 AM
Because, in my own opinion an automated system should always be better than the human system.

What do you think?
Building a completely automated system to supervise transactions would be very tricky, imo.
Take for example; I want to purchase a camera from someone in another country and pay in Bitcoin. I send my BTC and it's held in escrow till I get the good delivered to me. Now, I can refuse to acknowledge that I received the goods even though I did, and this can delay the transaction. But when dealing with a human, the seller can prove (using documents) that the good was indeed sent and has been delivered and the escrow service provider can act on his own judgement.

I'm not a tech specialist, but a machine which would be able to correctly handle all types of transactions independently would be fairly difficult to develop.

The system is not perfect, but it's better than the alternatives.
We should also note that escrow is not a prerequisite in every Bitcoin transaction. While a fiat transfer can not be done without a bank being involved.
4589  Economy / Reputation / Re: name: removal of the red tag I have on: April 09, 2020, 06:06:11 AM
As mentioned above, trust feedbacks can not be removed, except by the person that left it. The trust system is not moderated.
I went through the reference and I consider the reason for the feedback very light in addition to the fact that the user is not on DT, I your account is perfectly fine in that regards..

In cases of perceived misuse of the trust system by someone whose ratings actually counts, this can be approached using a counter feedback, this would bring the over all rating back to neutral.
4590  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: April 09, 2020, 05:13:17 AM
Am I the only one who thinks that it's a bad ideas for the Premier League to re-open only to be played behind closed doors? I mean not ticket sales, merchandise sales even advertising will be low.
The ticket sales would be a huge loss to the clubs, but I think home delivery services are still active, so merchandise can be sold to anywhere within the country. Sponsorship contracts would also be honoured as the players would have them on their jerseys and it would also be displayed on the digital boards.

The revenue accrued would not be the same as during a normal campaign, but there'll be money coming in. This could prevent some clubs from going insolvent during this period.
4591  Other / Meta / Re: SUGGESTION, hide report to moderator button for your own posts and account! on: April 09, 2020, 05:03:12 AM
I'm sure the mods would catch on the error easily as they do not simply act on the content of the report, but do their own research into it.
If you want to be sure, you can always message the moderator of that board and let then know you made an error.
Not sufficient reason to disable the option completely especially as a lot of people find it useful.

4593  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges. How do they work on: April 07, 2020, 06:13:17 PM
Agreed ! Is there some obvious big exchange that everyone uses ?
(I see Binance pop up a lot in the forums)
Check out the ratings on CMC for too exchanges (by trade volume) https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/reported/
You can do more research and tweak your parameters to find the perfect exchange for you, i.e, if you're looking for more liquidity, anonymity or trade volume, you search accordingly.

Why not ? (I don't doubt what you said, I just want to understand why)
Is it not recommanded to deposit in order to wait for the good opportunity, may it be 3 months later ?
In centralized exchanges, you do not own the private keys to the wallet assigned to you, and this means it's not your wallet. If anything happens to the exchange; a hack or an exit scam your funds would be lost.

But for doing that I need the "buying order" to take effect immediatly, so I need some of my fiat to be available on the exchange already.

This is down to the ease of using the specific exchange. If it's relatively easy to assess, you can deposit fiat and convert while the price is still within your desired range. Personally, I would rather risk the price dropping a bit that leaving my funds in an exchange wallet.

Maybe there is another way than the exchanges ?
You can look up OTC trades ~ Over The Counter trades.
4594  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges. How do they work on: April 07, 2020, 10:43:32 AM
I believe you've gotten answers to most of your questions, I'll just offer some general tips to help  you navigate through.

When dealing with exchanges I think it is pertinent to discuss about security as you are risking your funds.
• Only deal with top and reputable exchanges. Do not risk your fund in any shady or relatively new exchange. (Also do not sign up to untrusted exchanges as your personal data can be sold)
• Exchanges do not function as a bank or a wallet address, so do not store fiat or cryptocurrency in it. Only deposit either of them when you are ready to exchange.
• It's also important to use the bookmark option for exchanges you frequent to avoid getting into the wrong website.

I would also recommend you read the terms and conditions any website you plan on using (and know the legal status of your country on trading cryptocurrency), especially if you're depositing large amounts.
4595  Other / Meta / Re: Posting downloadable PDF/ eBook links on: April 07, 2020, 05:27:44 AM
AFAIK, there is no rule against posting educational materials, like links to videos and e-books. I have come across some over the years here on the forum.

Am I violating the laws that pertains to copyright infringement?
This should depend on the privacy right on the material itself and can not be decided by the forum administrators. If there is no copyright on the material, then you can share it freely, but if there is, you'll have to conform to fair use of the material.
However, AFAIK, this is not directly moderated by the forum.
4596  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have Ignore option on topics, not boards, not users? on: April 06, 2020, 09:00:56 AM
To be clear, you're suggesting an option to ignore threads if its topic title contains certain keywords; such as the the corona virus example, or does it include ignoring posts that contain such key words in it's text? This sort of thing is done on most social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

I don't know the technicalities of implementing this, if it's fairly easy then there's no harm in it as ignore options should be based in user preference.
4597  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: April 06, 2020, 06:48:51 AM
I should point out the things I most like about Roobet site; the ease of access and the layout settings. Everything appears in one easy to understand package.
I haven't had any reason to contact support yet, being active 24/7 would make the experience so much better.
Definitely this is one of the fastest growing gambling sites around.
4598  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need a little advice from the best members out here on: April 05, 2020, 04:50:46 PM
Underselling yourself is an option, it would only attract campaigns that are desperate to save a buck or two. Those that want their projects handled professionally would invariably go for more established members in the campaign management and escrow service fields.
The first step is knowing the service you offer, if you hope to attract offers to yourself, you have to be personally ready to take on the service you're offering when the offer does come.

You can also engage in aggressive marketing; regularly bumping your service and if possible reaching out to potential clients, this could land you a job or a recommendation.
4599  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Time to learn on: April 05, 2020, 01:42:24 PM
The entire globe is at a stand still at the moment, with lots of industries being closed down for the mean time, workers layed off and students on break, so this would be a great time to pick up an extra course or learn a new skill. But no one should be pressured into being productive or ridiculed for not utilising this period.

It's not a global vacation. We are in the middle of a pandemic that is affecting thousands of lives across the entire globe. More so, people can hardly source for extra help to take care of their daily chores and so need to carry that themselves. Not to mention the psychological unrest that comes with the crisis.
Work at your own pace and devote as much as you can to those affected around you.
4600  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stimulus plus halving could cause the real crypto bull on: April 05, 2020, 07:02:14 AM
So far I only know of three country offering stimulus packages to their citizens (US, England and Canada) and among them, issues are still arising with it's distribution and majority of jobs which can not be done digitally have been lost. It's unlikely anyone would be throwing theie stimulus package into Bitcoin when it does get to then at a time of looming economic crisis. That's would be a very unwise decision.

Also, people are paying so much attention to the Bitcoin halving. It doesn't have to necessarily trigger a rise in the price like in previous times. It can only influence the demand for bitcoins and this would in turn trigger a rise in the price.
