461  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Possibly the rarest crypto coin in existance for sale! Jetcoin coin ! on: May 14, 2017, 07:06:39 PM
Buy it now 100 BTC. - Once bitcoin goes mainstream and so does crypto coin collecting, I expect this coin to fetch hundreds of thousands.

This is cool, i was not aware of this coin. I have written a book about crypto coin collecting (check my signature  Cool), and while I think that collecting can become much more popular as time goes on, I can say that you will have no luck getting anything near 100 BTC for this.

FIRSTLY, People that believe that crypro-coin collecting will go mainstream will also believe that BTC will likely go up 10x or 100x, meaning they are effectively paying 2m-20m for this coin, which is surely ridiculous

SECONDLY, despite all my research, I've never seen this. There is no 'story' behind it, and thus no history to speak of. For all we know, 1,000 exist, OR it is a one-off coin that you created. If I could sell a 'newly discovered' coin for $200,000, you can bet I would be manufacturing a coin with '2013' or whatever on it.

My advice is that you hold this coin; if one or two others surface, there will be a story to tell, and more info. I'd also like to add it to the next version of my book.  It might be worth something (but not 200K) in 3-10 years. That said, if you are very lucky, I could see you getting 2 BTC from some very serious collector.

The coins listed are Casascius coins? I don't think the OP mentions it.

What's the proof that the 25BTC coin is the "first ever 25 BTC coin graded by ANACS"?

Thank you!

Yes, these are all Casascius coins (unless mentioned otherwise). I also have access to original release 10 LTC & 25 LTC Lealana coins

EDIT: as for the 'first ever' coin i understand that it has ANACS serial number 1 or something similar. I can confirm this fact with the owner if there is serious buy interest.

On June 30th, 2015, I sold my 5,000,000 XEM for well under 100 Satoshi each. I gained 3 BTC.
I wish I had not done this. I wish NEM all the best.

Been following from the beginning. I plan to cash out about a 30% into btc at around 10MM market cap. The other 30% ill cash out within a year or two if things go well, and the rest I hold long term.

On June 30th, 2015, I finished selling 5,000,000 XEM for well under 100 Satoshi each. I gained 3 BTC. That was all my XEM.
Today, this would be worth over $250,000
Feels bad man. Congrats to the hodlers.

Will you be posting asking prices or will that information only be available via PM?

I'm happy to delete this post following your answer, so as to keep the thread clean. Thank you.

There are no specific ask prices for most, but if you send me an offer then I will basically see what I can do with it.

470  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius 2 FA bars. on: March 25, 2017, 08:21:02 AM
Nice to see these again  Cheesy

Frankly, I have no idea.. I bought these from the company that now makes Denarium coins (they originally re-sold casascius in Europe, before making their own coins) Cheesy
I have not come across any other of these.
471  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Lot's of Casascius for sale, what's going on? on: March 22, 2017, 03:00:26 PM
Until we stop indexing the bitcoin price against the dollar, yuan, pound, euro, etc; premiums will always fluctuate.
Why else would there be a flood of sales??
We still live in a fiat world for the time being and people love their $$$$....

Interestingly, I've had this conversation with an outsider recently.. they dont understand why the coins would be valued in BTC, other than for the contained value. For example an unfunded coin, They've wanted to have me estimate the value in USD, like of any other collectible. They don't necessarily see why the $ value of a (for example) redeemed 1000BTC bar would change dramatically with price swings. What do you guys think?
472  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Alitin Mint Coin Breach on: March 22, 2017, 02:58:45 PM
All I can say is that when my encyclopedia gets a new version, this chapter will be an interesting one  Shocked
To be clear, I'm not vouching for Mr. Forsyth, simply withholding judgment in hopes that he does everybody right.
473  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Alitin Mint Coin Breach on: March 21, 2017, 04:59:34 PM
I have spoken with Mr. Forsyth. The following are two bits from him:

we sincerely want to win back lost trust--not just for ourselves, but for the community.  Bitcoin was founded partly on the notion that trust is too hard to come by, but I am certain we are all worse off without it.  When we first started, we realized we weren't just selling physical crypto.  We also knew we represented Bitcoin as ambassadors, and that many people we came in contact with would be initiates.  So this breach has hit us financially, but also on a very personal level.  We love the Cryptocurrency community for what it has and will accomplish, and we still believe in it.

We also hope that we can find anyone at all who has been effected by the breach so that we can make amends as best we can, and we hope for forgiveness from the public.  Though we strenuously assert our innocence in the matter, we are taking responsibility.

With this, I'm willing to give Alitin the benefit of the doubt and not jump to conclusions. As has been shown to me personally, hackers can be extremely cunning. I do believe that Mr. Forsyth and Alitin can come out of this with high levels of respect from the community. This is not Mark Hamilton of Coinographic infamy.
474  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Lot's of Casascius for sale, what's going on? on: March 21, 2017, 03:26:44 PM
I can't say for certain, but I can tell you that I've recently received notable interest in certain coins, and I've thus 'upped my game' in both making contacts and marketing my services. Practically all of these coins have always been 'for sale', but to buy them you would have had to know exactly who to ask (me Wink ).

I can also say that in the past two weeks, I've seen a significant increase in book sales, not from forum members but new, 'outsider' collectors. I've received queries asking me to find coins for them, as many 'normal' people are not comfortable dealing on a forum like this. To them, I strive to be a trusted intermediary who can source any coins they need.

I can also say that since putting up my sale post, I've received lots of good offers from several forum members, half of whom (and I am amazed to say this) are new members whose names I have never seen before. This tells me that the collector base is indeed growing. I suspect this may be in part due to increased media attention to Bitcoin during the run-up to the ETF decision, and the tendency for news to feature physical coins as a symbol of Bitcoin. I think this makes people curious.

That said, I would not be surprised if some long term hodlers of Casascius coins are looking to diversify parts of their collections, given the gains they have seen over the years. I would say this is an excellent time for new collectors to do a 'coin-grab' that may not be possible in the future.

All things considered, I'm very optimistic with where this space is headed!
475  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius 2013 brass - single roll - 50 coins for sale on Ebay on: March 21, 2017, 06:22:28 AM
Hello, do you have more info on the  "20x 1btc silver coins" roll? exact type of coin, price and so on?

I believe they are 2013 Casascius 1BTC all-silver coins. fully sealed tube, never opened. Located in USA.
Not sure if the price is as 'good' as for the other rolls, as the seller isn't actively looking to sell. For an extra fee, I can have all coins delivered graded by ANACS. Think close to 2BTC per coin.

476  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius 2013 brass - single roll - 50 coins for sale on Ebay on: March 21, 2017, 05:45:37 AM
Habsbear, is this your roll?
If so, I dont mean to piggyback on you.

Anyway, I thought this is the place to say that I have access to unopened rolls of
20x 1btc silver coins
50x 0.5btc brass coins
50x 1btc 2013 brass coins (top has been opened but only 2 or 3 coins have ever been removed)

{BULK} prices can be negotiated on these, less than eBay  Grin   Enough to make money reselling  Wink

PM me with whatever coins you need!  Cool
Large quantities of some coins available, BULK DISCOUNTS for re-sellers

With the recent increased media attention in Bitcoin and minor publicity for my book, I've received lots of messages from both buyers and sellers.
Many of these buyers are 'outsiders', and want to go through me when buying coins.
Others are long-term hodlers with vast collections, looking for the right offer or even a bulk buyer.
All of them have chosen CoinFIRM as their trusted intermediary.

I will use this thread to keep a list of what I have confirmed access to, meaning contact with a reliable seller who is willing to sell.
I will not reveal sellers, and I will not contact them for questions or prices based on your curiosity about the current market. Some of the bulk sellers will not be interested in selling individual pieces or small lots. I apologize if I do not respond to every query. I do not normally provide photos, except at the very end phase of a sale. The assumption is that especially all loaded pieces are in mint or very near mint condition.

Please do not post in this thread to offer your own items. PM me and I will add them to my list, and contact you as necessary.

SEALED TUBE means never opened, though there are also individuals of the same coin available. Many BULK coin come in (or from) partly opened or owner-provided tubes. Buying in BULK will get you a discount. That generally does not mean two or three coins.

For items where 'premium' is the main value, my full-service brokerage fee is about 20%. For other items like lower value loaded coins, you can consider 25% of the premium as the estimated fee. In other cases, CoinFIRM will acquire the coin(s) directly from the seller for an undisclosed price, and deliver it/them to the buyer for the negotiated sale price.

I do also maintain information about sellers of non-casascius coins, but my view is that the market for them is not particularly robust at this time.
Some examples:
Bitbills (all denominations)
Various Lealana coins
bhCoins S2 {BULK}
Cryptonic
Alitin Mint
Crypto Imperator
Cryptolator
MJB Monetary Metals

@elianite, @bithalo...you both do great work, an endorsement is the least I could do!

(That goes for all the coinmakers too, without whom there'd be no content for the book!)

Are issues of the Encyclopedia getting low? If someone wants a copy, either for mint storage or coffee table casual display, is there risk of time running out?

If people need to act now, you gotta tell us!   Grin

The encyclopedias themselves will be on sale for the foreseeable future, through coinfirm.org, Amazon, or perhaps your local bookstore's online catalog.
If you want something more than a 'boring' normal book, ask minerjones: he should have some signed copies. You may also be aware of the 'Autographs Edition' with over 31 autographs and lots of holograms from various makers. There are 3 or so of those left if I recall.

Also, I'm going to announce this here first: The book has been updated. The 'Revised Hardcover' books that some of you received are now Limited Edition; no more than ~50 exist and none will be printed in the future. It contained some image errors, and all newly ordered books under that name/ISBN will be without those errors.
If you want one of those books, talk to minerjones as i believe he has a small number remaining.

"In his highly detailed and exhaustive catalog of physical cryptocurrencies, Ahonen takes us on a journey from the very first attempts to produce these physical coins, cementing his place as one of the first ‘bitcoin historians'."

"Collectively, these coins represent the rich material history of early bitcoin and cryptocurrency that Ahonen has meticulously detailed in this book."

"Last April, after a signed copy was lost en route to Singapore, Ahonen flew to the buyer from Canada to personally sign a copy"
