CMIIW.
522  Local / Topik Lainnya / Re: Apa Paket Internet Terbaik Rekomendasi Kalian? on: December 11, 2023, 03:44:24 AM
Gak aneh juga sih kalau merger jadi satu jaringannya, mungkin penyederhanaan layanan aja jadi ga perlu hire terlalu banyak orang, CMIIW.

523  Local / Topik Lainnya / Re: Sekte - Sekte Agama Aneh di Negara Kita on: December 11, 2023, 03:29:33 AM
524  Economy / Reputation / Re: After Sinbad, which mixer is Next To Be Shutdown? on: December 08, 2023, 02:57:07 AM
In the future to prevent crypto mixers from troubling the authority they will increase the time to do some background checks on their customer. I'm saying this due to how abusive leads to KYC in crypto casinos.
I wonder who will use them then. I guess the average joe won't have a problem with chain analysis, but I don't think they will survive long enough since it is unlikely that they will attract big customers. Any privacy enthusiast would use coinjoin or other options if that is the norm imo. On the other hand, they don't have to explicitly tell the public and just work together with the government if profit is still the goal. CMIIW.
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Long Term BTC Holders Who Still Haven't Cashed Out Any Big Profits? on: December 08, 2023, 02:43:05 AM
I mean people who like a caveman with 5k and a job that barely pays their living expenses but just keeping their btc and not selling any.  That type of person is rare right?
That's not surprising. Almost everyone focuses on short-term problems instead of long-term profits that may or may not happen. Just think about it, why would somebody care if they can cash out $10k in 2 years or so if they can't even eat this month?

Obviously, a smart person would not sell every BTC they have regardless of how difficult their life is, but survival comes first most of the time. I know some people use the money from selling BTC to get a better job or buy better working tools, so they can earn more and buy BTC again. But not everyone has this kind of tenacity and opportunity.
526  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why is my miner mining less date every day? on: December 08, 2023, 02:10:06 AM
1. Squeeze all money they could get from their GPU.
2. Hoping those unpopular PoW coin might be enough to make break even.
Although on those case, selling their GPU is probably more sensible option. I also hear people who works on AI sometimes looks for used Nvidia GPU.
I see. So some of them probably hold the belief that getting crypto is still better compared to cashing out their GPU right now.

I heard the same thing regarding Nvidia GPU. IIRC, the US government even told them to stop selling their GPUs to China due to its AI capabilities. Looks like companies are buying them to take part in the AI race.

If I had an Nvidia GPU, selling to them would look like a better deal compared to renting my computing power to Nicehash. On the other hand, companies can also save money if they just use the cloud to get their computing power. Easier to manage to, since they don't need to build a dedicated space for that. CMIIW.
527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help with imtoken private seed import on: December 08, 2023, 01:30:31 AM
What wallet are you using on your new phone? Are you sure the seed is correct? Imtoken claims they use the default derivation path when generating the wallet[1], but you can try using Electrum to see if your address is on a different path. Imtoken also claims that they support changing the wallet path, so you can also try that if you want to[2].

528  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Invitation to Collaborate on a Breakthrough Project on: December 08, 2023, 01:25:43 AM
I just checked your Skype and I can't say it gives me confidence at all. Your profile pic looks cool tho. Maybe you can share some pics related to your Byteback project if you don't want to market yourself as a scammer. You can also go public with your personal details first before asking people about KYC. That's just an easy way to sell data to the darknet for you.

529  Economy / Economics / Re: Do brands that take sides on divisive issues lose market share? on: December 07, 2023, 03:08:12 AM
I understand protests, if it brings real harm or problems to some group, but to demand attention to oneself or one's own promotion is too much !
I don't think you can't really change that though. Ideology by nature will clash with each other. Besides, it is impossible to tell them to "just ignore it" if the promotion is happening in their area. On the other hand, I think shrinking market share is not similar to the harm you're talking about here. Businesses should know that bringing different values (and actively promoting them) to people with different values is not the smartest decision for sales. CMIIW.

530  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Belize banned crypto it seams? on: December 07, 2023, 01:42:32 AM
Probably related to this[1]? I can imagine they temporarily ban businesses from doing crypto transactions because they want to prepare for a better monitoring system, and then resume it after the framework is ready. It is also possible that they ask for other requirements if the business wants to continue dealing with crypto, but the specific broker you mentioned above doesn't want to do it.

531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Controversy over Bitcoin Transaction Water Consumption: Accerx Analyzes its Envi on: December 07, 2023, 01:29:59 AM
De Vries' research suggests that the water consumption of cooling systems for mining rigs and the energy consumption of mining rigs are the main causes of large-scale water resource usage.
Where did he do his research? How did he find the correlation? This doesn't seem very reliable since I doubt miners run their rigs in a poor area with a scarce water supply, to begin with. Is there any data on how much water consumption for mining compared to other areas in a specific time? While I support green energy or whatever it is, the reasoning seems a bit weak if the research doesn't show more than just a hypothetical scenario.

I remember reading this headline on a popular PC news website. It does seem that people who are not familiar with crypto fall for misleading ideas like this very easily.
532  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Risks of mining in Russia on: December 07, 2023, 01:02:06 AM
Right. In the Moscow region, mining is safer than in Siberia, because you do not need to fear bandits and private security companies will arrive very quickly in case of an alarm. But the police can take away the mining farm.
In Siberia it’s the other way around. There are no security companies in the taiga, and you protect your property on your own.
Is there any reason why people still operate mining farms illegally if they can hire security companies or register with the government though? Is cheap electricity the only reason, or is the registration process quite difficult to do so? What sort of reason can make the government take down your mining farm other than running it illegally?

533  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why is my miner mining less date every day? on: December 07, 2023, 12:33:58 AM
Based on https://www.whattomine.com/, it should be possible for break even. But it heavily depends on few coins which have low market cap.
Doesn't Nicehash only pay with Bitcoin? From their profitability page, it seems like even RTX 4090 is only earning less than $2 a day. Maybe they run other things to make their device profitable, or their energy cost is low, to begin with? It is really hard to understand why anyone would provide their device for such low profitability if they can't offset the cost.
534  Other / Meta / Re: (Any Guesses?) Are there many real (unpaid) people still posting here at BCT? on: December 06, 2023, 02:26:54 AM
Sounds good, thanks everyone for the quick responses. Many of the threads from ~2010, when BTC had literally - or close to - zero usd value are challenging for me technically, but I love it anyway, great stuff.
As mentioned above, the technical discussion still exists and is centered around the technical discussion board. There is a reason why some signature campaigns ban sub-boards to begin with, likely due to spam. You should at least read a decent post nowadays unless it comes from a bounty hunter.

You can also lurk around the Serious discussion board if you don't want to see spammers, since any post posted there doesn't count toward the post count at all.
535  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Best Crypto Payment Gateways? on: December 06, 2023, 02:09:10 AM
We tried to ask NowPayments via their live chat, and they said the KYC for some payments is only rare, and it also depends on their AML provider/algorithm. So I'm curious if we will also experience what we experienced in our current payment gateway.
Does this mean they don't handle the KYC, and use a third-party service that uses a black box to guess whether a transaction is suspicious or not? I don't think that sounds reliable. It sounds weird that they don't provide a help page to provide details on what transactions are KYC-able.
536  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sheepy - new cryptocurrency payment gateway on: December 06, 2023, 01:46:45 AM
Collaborating with a well-established platform like Prestashop enhances our credibility and introduces our service to their loyal and trusting customer base, helping to break down skepticism surrounding crypto transactions.
I understand that, but is it really impactful? I believe Prestashop allows anyone to build their plugin, so it sounds like something that regularly happens. At the very least, it doesn't seem like a big deal, similar to how an open-source project collaborated with each other in their initial stage, unlike some big deals such as Google and Apple making a join-partnership or something.

I guess that is just a marketing strategy in the end, so I can't really blame you as long as it is not misleading. Another way to increase credibility is if you can open-source your project or allow the community to verify the code. I believe you can understand why an open-source project is well-liked by the community.
537  Economy / Economics / Re: Do brands that take sides on divisive issues lose market share? on: December 06, 2023, 01:34:40 AM
However, would this have happened with smaller brands? Read what this article found out.
Quote
As long as a brand’s initial market share is sufficiently small, engaging in activism can result in a net increase in customers even if the brand takes a stance that consumers overwhelmingly oppose. In contrast, large brands can lose more than they gain, even when opponents and supporters are in balance.
I might be blind, where does this quote come from? I checked your links and it doesn't seem like any of them contain that. I can only say that we need to know how the research is being conducted because a small market share is quite ambiguous and the form of activity it not rigidly defined. A good example is shared above. I doubt a small company that sells religious attire would net a positive market share if they got themselves heavily involved with values that directly oppose their customer's values.
538  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy (MSTR) as a GBTC alternative on: December 06, 2023, 01:04:43 AM
Also, if you watch any chart of the companies that are doing great nowadays, they all nosedived hardcore on 2000, but those are the winners of today. If he found a way to win by becoming a Bitcoin's holding company then so be it.
I guess it comes back to your investment goal. If your purpose is not to save BTC/sats, and just want to look for investment return, there is no harm in buying stocks as long as you know the risk. P

Most members in this forum probably want long-term exposure though, so I doubt anyone would suggest people buy shares or something similar (wrapped Bitcoin, etc) since the risk is greater compared to buying BTC directly. It can be annoying sometimes, but that is a fair price for most people.

I believe 1 or 2 years is still a very long time for crypto exposure. Just take a look at how wild the chart can be. If your goal is to get BTC I believe it is still worth trying to buy them directly instead of looking for exposure through indirect means. Have you tried P2P?
539  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Wallet Types ? on: December 05, 2023, 01:50:57 AM
I sent 1 TRX to the TRX wallet address in Ledger. TRC20 network. I received it.
I sent 1 USDT to the TRX wallet address in Ledger. TRC20 network. I received it.
Should I use TRX or ETH network to keep USDT in Ledger ?
Which one is more reliable ?
Do you need to use it ASAP or are you planning to store it for a long time? Ethereum is quite congested these days so your transfer might be a bit costly but should be safer compared to Tron Network. It doesn't mean much since using USDT to store your wealth is just risky imo. If you want to ask about this further, maybe you can open a new thread since it is more about Ethereum vs Tron or altcoins instead of Ledger in general. CMIIW.
540  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Risks of mining in Russia on: December 05, 2023, 01:36:50 AM
I do not quite get it.
Do you mean that there is no mining risks in Russia because the Police protect the mining rigs or that there is risk of theft but it is reduced? Please clarify.
From what I understood from the article shared by OP (using Google Translate), it seems like the police just seized a mining farm that is not registered or has any documents supporting its operation at all. I think it shows that running a mining farm without permission (if I understood it right) is quite risky since the police can easily seize it all.
