541  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: How much do you make through faucets? on: July 31, 2015, 08:54:25 PM
You would get more BTC if you got a job and then exchanged the money for BTC.

Yes guys, this is really waste of time in my opinion. I mean why would you torture yourself, you are better off finding something else to do for bitcoins than entering captchas. Faucets are not here to earn, faucets are here to get to known oneself with the technology.

of course this is true, but i also spend a great deal of time in front of my computer. I do all sorts of things online and like to take regular breaks to save my spine, so by having a few easy faucets bookmarked, every hour im notified, spend a minute or two solving captchas and make around 50 cents (or less) a week. i dont do it for my living, but one day, if btc is worth 10s of thousands each, the ~5$ worth of btc i have earned over about a year or two of sporadically clicking faucets will be worth a nice bit of change. at the very least faucets pay my tx fees.

I also have no problem picking dimes up off the sidewalk.
542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Event Announcement: Branding Bitcoin in the Media - August 5, 2015 [ZapChain] on: July 31, 2015, 08:49:38 PM
thats excellent. WSJ has long been good at reporting on BTC fairly... the other (BTC-centric) outlets represented here are good, but kinds "niche" they stand to do pretty good once mass adoption is a thing, but for now they are pretty fringe.

what the average regular press needs to do is hire reporters who actually understand how BTC works and not let half-smart n00bs write their articles. A dedicated "BTC editor" would be all over these forums, reddit and traditional news gathering methods. They would have an active interest in BTC and cryptos, but would also have to remain objective.

some of the articles that come out... you wonder what kind of fact-checking they do, if any.
543  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much money do i need to start becoming a whale on: July 31, 2015, 08:44:16 PM
agreed.

you would have better luck starting your own exchange in some unregulated region like Romania and then inserting some thing like a willy bot.

fortunately most people have more to gain by being honest. Falsely inflated BTC valuation isn't good for anyone, long term. just makes BTC look shady
544  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-30]CCN-VISA CAUTIOUS ON THE BITCOIN BLOCK CHAIN on: July 31, 2015, 08:40:16 PM
It is an elaborate FUD scheme. Visa MC et al will mention BTC, say they are interested, then back pedal, causing the uninformed average consumer to think.... "hmmmm VISA looked at these magic internet monies, and they are obviously really smart, and they saw something they dont like, so that settles it! BTC is bunk!"

kinda a bait n switch, a fake-out. "yeah, we studied BTC really hard and y'know what? NOPE!"

that combined with the fact that they probably actually did take a good look and said to themselves...we like blockchain, but we want it with a coin WE control..." then they realized that their self-mined visa coin would never be sustainable.

either way, they smell desperate.
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Phuket villa owner agrees to accept bitcoin, how do I proceed on: July 31, 2015, 07:36:46 PM
There are several escrow services over in the services section. Check their reputation. Guys like quickseller and sebastionJu have been around forever and are known well, respected and trusted across the community. I have never needed to use escrow but I would consider using escrow provided by a user I have seen around the forums and who has good reputation like either the 2 guys mentioned. Keep in mind there's always people with beefs that can hand out negative trust unjustly. You must do your research well !

If the villa owner will take escrow, do that. Seeing as he has led you away from the air bnb platform, you could get into trouble.
Always have a plan b. Have fun. It'll be HOT, and Thailand is dirty and poor, but you'll never forget it
546  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 50 BTC lost because of blank passphrase on: July 30, 2015, 06:50:10 PM
Can someone explain to me why anyone would even use a brain wallet? They seem like the least secure wallet out there, what would be the advantage?
547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is wealth boring? on: July 28, 2015, 02:18:29 AM
wealth isnt boring only people are. If you arent interesting, or interested in anything, having a lot of money wont help you.

its like school. Its all about what you make it.
548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lucy Liu is into bitcoin on: July 27, 2015, 02:06:58 AM
Excellent news and good for her! I'm never surprised when an intelligent person believes in btc but high profile people supporting it is nothing but good for us all.
Can't see how it is a publicity stunt though. Who would pay for that? I think she's just like the rest of us, she's heard about it, looked into it, sees the revolutionary potential, has become excited and now is a btc evangelist.
549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Welcome To The Blockchain on: July 26, 2015, 04:58:12 AM
I keep seeing this thread, but the title makes me think of Guns n Roses "Welcome to the jungle"

It's cute I guess.

550  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost 150 BTC from this address on: July 24, 2015, 01:26:15 AM
as said in this thread a few times already... thats a LOT of money. also OP has much more, but that doesnt make the loss any easier to bear.

OP, sorry, but there is little to no chance to get your funds returned... you are only a member rank, but you have so many btc... were you an early miner? its wierd because i would assume, from the amount of btc you hold that you must have been around for a while.

It just goes to show you, no matter how much you think you understand btc and your own safety, you can be victimized.

I lost ~6 btc last year to some hack. I bought a ledger wallet the next day.

OP needs to get a hardware wallet.

sorry bro.
551  Economy / Securities / Re: Fishing enterprise in Far East Russia. Colored coin IPO. Monthly dividends. on: July 23, 2015, 10:28:52 PM
I'm going to call this one a classic ponzi, nothing else. it would explain the test dividends... it depresses me to see every offering here to be such terrible scams. far east russia....yeah right... even if true, what recourse will all those who lose money on this garbage have when it all goes south... i guess we will see after august and they disappear. happy fishing, suckers.

Can you be responsible for you words?

Can you put a bet, let's say 10 BTC that we will disappear after august?
I can put a bet 10 BTC against yours that we will stay here for at least several years and 1st January 2016 you will see the first dividends.

We are sending test dividends now just because not everybody familiar with colored coins, so, people can play and see how it works.

I dont have 10 btc because I lost it all on shady "securities" offerings like this one.
It is up to you to prove that you are legit. testing colored coins doesn't mean sh*7

I'll still be here in 2016.
Can't say I feel the same way about you.

Its never a surprise when a scammer makes bet/threats/get's his knickers in a twist when called out.

If you really are legit, you should be doing a hell of a lot more to prove your ID and verify your actual assets.
552  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-23] The Blockchain Revolution Gets Endorsement in Wall Street Survey on: July 23, 2015, 07:42:12 AM
They all spout this type of new fangled block trading BS.
Great news. I believe them.
Doubt it will be BTC driven.
They will just make all sorts of alts to use for their specific purposes. It's safer that way. Make a valueless coin that has a good block chain to use for trading stocks; moving values; ledgers w/ever, doesn't have to be btc.
Bad actors might steal btc, better to start a new alt and exploit that block chain.
553  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-23] New Cornell Paper Suggests Mining Pools Will Shrink in Size on: July 23, 2015, 07:35:55 AM
I could see it all evening out, considering difficulty and private mining moving in. I don't know how much any would shrink. Big money will turn their miners on or off depending on profitability.
It's the way the mind my system is supposed to work. There is supposed to be incentive NOT to monopolize, but go tell that to greedy investors...
TL;DR they won't shrink but their growth will taper off until every pool owns equal share of hash rate.
554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Telegram now has an A.I. BOT called Julia who is your personal Bitcoin assistant. on: July 21, 2015, 09:38:40 PM
it's a start, but i was really hoping it would be more like an animated feature. something like sims or secondlife (but better articulated)
that way it could guide users through technical processes in real time, literally showing them how to do things like sign messages etc.

this julia thing is just annoying.
555  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst mistake you did with Bitcoin? on: July 21, 2015, 09:34:50 PM
1.) not buying when i first heard about btc and the price was 15 cents each...
2.) when I eventually did accumulate a little btc (paying between 20-100$) "investing" a lot of it in btc securities... activemining, labcoin, even ASIC miner... I lost everything I wagered.

expensive lessons. Im still slowly accumulating btc, but I would already be rich if I simply hodled.
556  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-20]BITCOIN SPIES - Are Bitcoin Faucets Worth It? on: July 21, 2015, 09:30:03 PM
they should really speak to the risks of faucets. sure you can grab a few pennies worth of btc, but you are risking picking up malware that will load your machine with exploits or worse.
you see every day on these forums users who have lost thier btc to a hack, not usually really big amounts, 10btc or less usually. also, they usually have no idea where they picked up the malware. anyone considering using faucets should read this first ---> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1044399.0
557  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: $1 of bitcoins for doing a small survey, 3 minutes to complete. on: July 21, 2015, 10:07:47 AM
Yep. Confirmed paid. A dollar fifty CAD worth of btc received just a couple hours ago. Tenks bragh
558  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK](SFI) Seedcoin Fund I on: July 21, 2015, 09:19:28 AM
Thanks for clearing that up. It's still great news!
Any news on when or where these see kin SHL shares are going to be tradable?
559  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-20] Canada’s Shifting Economic and Political Climate May Affect Bit... on: July 20, 2015, 11:20:39 PM
well, first up...
the NDP wont win the next federal election, and even if they do, abolishing the senate will be a lot harder to pull off than they promise.

Apart from that, the NDP tends to take a progressive stance on all things related to business development. Cant think of a more progressive business development than bitcoin and block chain tech.

that said; they are all politicians, and they lie all the time, but for sure the next federal election here in Canada will be a real shake up. our present leadership is a shambles. almost everyone is dissatisfied.

560  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-19]Can Buy Bitcoin! ING Retracts Its Statement on Twitter on: July 20, 2015, 11:14:57 PM
these flip-flop contradictory statements from these big banks only proves they dont have any idea about what to do about bitcoin.
they have realized that it isn't going away and that they cant stop it or ignore it, but they do not have a solid plan of action.
No ripple clone will save them either.
It will be a few more rough years with stories about bitcoiners getting shoved around by the banks before people realize it is the banks trying to kill our freedom and not that bitcoin is this big bad thing.
these banks keep acting like they are threatened is great for bitcoin. the big bullies are starting to get their comeuppance.
