563  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Canon EOS 1D MkII + 550EX Flash on: February 02, 2012, 07:24:17 PM
Hi, I'm curious to see if anybody would be interested in my used, but perfectly functioning Canon EOS 1D MkII camera?  I had the shutter replaced about 20K actuations ago (they're supposed to last about 150K actuations I think) so there's still plenty of life left on it.  It does shoot a little soft in JPG format, but is still razor sharp when extracting from RAW.  It comes with a 550EX external flash too. Comes with charger + battery + body.  The original battery wouldn't hold a charge anymore, so I replaced it with a brand-new OEM Canon which has maybe a dozen discharge cycles on it. No box or dox, but you can get those anywhere online in PDF. takes it, shipped within the US.

I do have that tool,  how else can I keep from burning the house down Smiley

but the reading is not exact..  jumps around and what you write down is..  well an educated guess.

edit:
my new rig(or is it 2 rigs joined by a common psu)  I will be easily able to do this..

it is 10x7970  3psu's  6790 Mh.  I will calculate the watts tonight.

Hi, my name is Jim, and I have way too much money laying around Tongue

Woops, why did I post this in Hardware?  I meant to post this in Marketplace\Goods!  Sorry about that.  Nelisky, I might be able to part out the 550EX, but I'll have to get back to you on shipping for that to EU.

I'd be looking for somewhere around $650 in BTC, shipped within the US.

1685 MH/s, 660 Watts from the wall, 2.55 MH/W

What setup?
568  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Tomorrow i buy a gigabyte 5970. What else do i need? Help a noob please! on: February 02, 2012, 05:51:18 PM
4x 5970 = ~3.0 GH/s  (say for $1110 extra including extenders and custom built rig)
@ current difficulty (and $6 per BTC) you are looking @ $424 gross per month.
Power @ 1130W and $0.113 per kWh = -$92 per month
Net is $386 per month.
$1,900 system / $386 = 5 month break even.  Sweet.

That's what I want to build right now. I undervolt my card to 887mv 605/200MHz, which gives me 554 MH/s and saves about 115W versus running at 1050mv 825/200.  So is it reasonable to expect similar power savings on a undervolted quad-5970 system to be around 4x115W?  If so, a quick calc shows 1130W-460W=670W @ 2.2 GH/s, or 3.28 MH/J!  That is pretty nuts.
569  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS Macbook Pro! on: February 02, 2012, 06:26:52 AM
The MacBook Pro sale has nothing to do with him getting marked as a scammer.

Did I miss something?  There was no MacBook Pro sale.
570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Choose the Bit-Pay spokesmodel for Los Angeles on: February 01, 2012, 06:37:29 PM
Let each model ask for their opinion on BIP16/BIP17, so we can make erudite decision.

That would be entertaining to see.

572  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS Macbook Pro! on: February 01, 2012, 06:10:59 PM
For some reason it seems that all *pad, iPhone, and MacBook ads are all scams.  I can't recall a single legit sale of any of these items for as long as I've been on these boards.
573  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happens when the block reward halves to 25? on: February 01, 2012, 05:48:39 PM
This is one instance where there's an argument for alt block chains, if for no other reason than to give us an idea of how the chain behaves when you diminish the reward.  A quick look at the history of prices of SolidCoin when it reduced block rewards tells us that the price of each coin increases whenever this happens.  I'm uncertain whether you can draw any parallels about the exact ratio of block reward reduction and market price though.
574  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5970's at newegg for $329 on: February 01, 2012, 04:32:49 PM
I think you are expecting way to much out of the 7950.  To even hit 550 MH/s, you are going to have to overclock the shit out of it, and power consumption is going to spike accordingly.

You know, you're absolutely right.  I was thinking that the 7970 (and thus the 7950 with a little tweaking) could hit 700 MH/s+ easily, and they'd have to be dialed down to hit 550 MH/s. But looking back at the 7970 threads, I see this is not the case.  I still want to see some 7950 benchmarks though Smiley

Does anybody have any news on the 7850s?  I remember people saying that's going to be the go-to card for efficiency a couple months ago.  Has anything changed since then?
575  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New 7950s on sale at Newegg on: February 01, 2012, 04:10:48 PM
Maybe i need to start badmouthing those "crappy" 5970s. Smiley

Shhh don't give away the strat!
576  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5970's at newegg for $329 on: February 01, 2012, 04:07:50 PM
Even downclocked there won't be a contest.  5970 holds its own downclocked against a 7970.  A 7950 is going to be 25% to 33% weaker.

You think?  I'm really curious to see benchmarks come in as people start getting their hands on them.  Now I realize the 7950 has a lower shader count than the 7970, but that can be compensated for by increasing the core a little bit which shouldn't increase power consumption too much.  I like the "550 MH/s" benchmark since it's a number that can be easily hit by the 5970 and, ostensibly, all 79XX cards.  Dial the settings all the way down til each card hits 550 MH/s stably, then measure power consumption.

BTW, are you in the Death and Taxes WoW guild?
577  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5970's at newegg for $329 on: February 01, 2012, 02:58:37 PM
Oh sure, on the big end, there won't be an comparison between a 7950 and 5970 if both are maxed out running pedal to the metal.  I totally get that.  However, I was referring to downclocked and undervolted performance, which seems to be popular nowadays.
578  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mhash/Watt for Complete Systems on: February 01, 2012, 07:18:03 AM
2.46 MH/W -- 550 MH/s @ 224W at the wall

I'm kinda crippled because I only have one 5970 mining.  I think I can get the total system power down if I can figure out how to undervolt the CPU.

550mhash is really low for a 5970. You should be getting like 700ish or higher

I can hit 840 MH/s, but this thread is about efficiency.
579  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5970's at newegg for $329 on: February 01, 2012, 07:01:52 AM
There is a lot of resentment for smart business sense on this forum.
That was true a few days ago, but maintaining your asking price in the wake of the 7950s @ $450 probably isn't a wise move.
580  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mhash/Watt for Complete Systems on: February 01, 2012, 05:13:10 AM
2.46 2.54 MH/W -- 550 554 MH/s @ 224W 218W at the wall

I'm kinda crippled because I only have one 5970 mining.  I think I can get the total system power down if I can figure out how to undervolt the CPU.

Edit: Ok, I figured out how to underclock my CPU and PCI ports.  Curiously, my hash rate bumped up a little bit too.
