1361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining at a loss: Insurmountable Problem in the near future or am I mistaken? on: July 29, 2011, 10:00:48 PM
Depends on what you mean by soon.  We have months of marginally profitable mining for people who already own their rigs.  And for people who do not pay for power mining should be a money maker for a long time.

Let's not dismiss the fact that mining was never really profitable until recently.  Early adopters basically had to eat the cost of their H/W and electricity.  If we return to an "unprofitable" state once again, that's fine with me.

How do we get an invite?

Edit:  Nvm.  It would help if you front-load your initial post with all the answers so that people don't have to read through the entire thread.
1363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining at a loss: Insurmountable Problem in the near future or am I mistaken? on: July 29, 2011, 09:28:17 PM
It was a different world when you could get any crap laptop and make 50 bitcoins a day or even a week for the potential gains were much higher for a much lower amount of 'capital investment' (ie, crap laptop that you weren't using anyway), but now with the introductory capital costs being so high with so little returns I don't see a way out of this, which is unfortunate.

I believe you're mistaken.  Mining is much more profitable now than it was back when you could mine 50 BTC per day on a crap laptop.

Oh, I thought you had a 6990 based on your shirt. I guess you were just teasing us.  Grin

hah yeah I wish I had a 6990 or two.
1365  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Paxum Questions and Concerns on: July 29, 2011, 06:19:12 PM
Absolutely we can accept your verification documentation via the postal service if you prefer.

Please send us CERTIFIED COPIES of your Photo ID.

If you are located in US/Canada then an International Passport or Drivers License is acceptable as proof of ID AND proof of address

If you are an International client then you must provide either an International Passport, or 2 (TWO) Government issued Photo ID's.

I think the 2nd part of his question was whether these certified copies would be kept offline or would they be scanned and stored electronically.  There's still a lot of apprehension about these sorts of dox being stored in a db since they'd be vulnerable to an intrusion.
1366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox now accepting Paxum on: July 29, 2011, 05:56:56 PM
I have a question:  I heard it takes up to 7 business days for a deposit to clear paxum and then get into mtgox/tradehill.  Why so long?  Dwolla is only 3 business days. (even that is too long if you ask me, considering they already verified my bank account my making deposits to it)

We offer the following options for deposit:

Wire - takes 3-5 business days
Check - instant upon receipt via the postal service
EFT (ACH) (US Only) - 5-7 business days
P2P transfer (from another Paxum client) - instant

We will be adding more funding/withdrawal options soon, and we are currently working with our provider to decrease the time on our EFT loads.

What about going the opposite direction?  What if I sold BTC and then withdrew the funds from MtGox->Paxum->Checking.  How long would that take?

RonC and Chris Mallick are buds.  Does this mean we should stay away from CCBill then?
1371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - We now support deposits and withdrawals of funds via Paxum. on: July 29, 2011, 04:28:34 PM
I will not retract ANYTHING. The moderators on this forum is welcome to ban me if they want to. I AM DOING THIS TO PROTECT THE GOOD PEOPLE IN THIS FORUM, and to protect Jered.

There's entire sites dedicated to Chris Mallick and all the pies he has fingers in.  Trust me, ePassport and Paxum are like oil and water.  Come out to the Phoenix Forum or Internext and if you know anybody who knows anybody, you'll find there's absatively no relationship between Paxum and ePass.

Me rockin a shirt I helped design.  I'm an avid Bitcoin miner, hardware enthusiast, and mediocre as hell Starcraft2 player and even worse MW2 player.  And yeah I love shopping Tongue

I'm jealous! I just have a pair of 6970s.  Tongue

I would LOVE to have some 6970s but they're wayyy out of my budg right now.  I had to settle for some 5870s and a 5850 I found off Craigslist.

Weird, none of my miners can connect right now Sad
1376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Radeon 5830s in stock at Amazon on: July 29, 2011, 06:27:57 AM
Eh, you can get 5850 extremes for $160 or less if you hunt around a bit, and they will do 400Mhps at stock voltage. Since the demise of the Newegg 5830 for $109 deal, 5850s have been the new sweet spot IMO.

The 5850 and 5870 were always THE cards to get before supply dried up.  Then everybody had to settle for 5830s.
1377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 5850 too hot! on: July 29, 2011, 06:26:30 AM
I'm using MSI afterburner and the memory clock does not go lower than 560. How can I get it to 300?

Use AMD GPU Clock Tool for setting the core/memory speeds.  Only use MSIA for fan control.
1378  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electricity costs money. on: July 29, 2011, 06:20:43 AM
Ya I ran the numbers about a month ago, and I have decently priced electricity and it would have been about 2 months to payoff the machines if the prices stay constant and we see constant increases in difficulty

You think that's bad?  Back when one could mine hundreds or thousands of Bitcoins per DAY, you'd be looking at a payoff of around 25-30 YEARS if at all.  Now mining is more profitable than ever (save for the fluke spike back in June).
1379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - We now support deposits and withdrawals of funds via Paxum. on: July 29, 2011, 02:36:18 AM
Wrd, everybody on GFY is all up ons Paxums nuts, so I might as well give them a try.
1380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we get the women on board? on: July 28, 2011, 11:35:29 PM
no link in your sig... what store is it from? you look hot by the way.

also... i must be *really* out of touch with women's fashion these days... never heard of this:

Thanks!  The shirts are available at http://www.SquareWear.biz.  Lip Glass is this lip gloss that goes on super thick and fills in all the little lines and cracks in your lips so that it looks like they're coated with lacquer.  Think Britney Spears' lips at the beginning of uh.. damn what was that one video where she's dressed up as a school girl??  I never was a big Britney fan, oh well.  Anyway, yeah it gives your lips a really glossy wet look.  Only thing is, your hair will stick to it like crazy, which is about the only drawback.  That and the $15 per tube cost.
