There is another way to get you to geostat in 30min without using rocket fuel but it's pretty insane but doable.
Anyone from NASA can DM me  Wink

shot outta a canon ala Jules Verns From the Earth to the Moon?

obviously you can tell im not NASA lol

Close but my idea is survivable by any healthy individual.
It also allows you to send things up that weigh a lot

You need a counterweight to stop it all coming down to earth  Roll Eyes

yup, geosync orbit is the midpoint of the elevator. well, more or less. as you say it needs a counterweight further out so it doesnt need to be the actual midpoint. one can go with no real dedicated counterweight, just make the cable twice as long and use the mass of the cable itself thats past geosync as the counterweight.

i believe you can sling stuff off the far end too if its just cable past the geosync point. iirc.

but you know this of course, this is for those who havent looked into it.

didnt Arthur C. Clarke 1st came up with the space elevator concept?. Fountains of Paradise.

Exactly space elevators are a great concept but not possible with the current materials.

Now, space elevators are another topic. We don't have the materials right now but fun stuff like if one collapsed, it would wrap around the world a couple of times (IIRC).

the circumference of earth is 24k miles. a space elevator woiuld need to be up probably 22k-26k miles. i guess it depends if this wrap would follow a circumference line or a smaller one. nice problem to think about. thx.

well not if youre in its path when it falls heh

as someone mentioned larry niven has written about them, both in essays and in his fiction. anything by him is good reading.

I actually calculated how to build a space elevator for fun but it boils down to the following.

Nanofibers aren’t strong enough to bridge the 32000km to geostationary orbit.
The weight of the fiber itself will snap it. Yes taking account the gravity but ignoring weather.
To do it you would need to go from thick(up in space, low grav) to thin(earth) to pull it off.

The smallest configuration with 1mm^2 coming down from space will take approx two full Falcon heavies (largest rocket) with spools of fiber into geostationary orbit. Glueing the fibers in space is hard. Generating the fibers in space might be better.

You need a counterweight to stop it all coming down to earth  Roll Eyes

You need anchor it on the equator.

Then you need to do above process a dozen to a few hundred times before you can send any payload or human into space.

Going to geostationary orbit at 100km/hr would take 320hrs so the trip would take 2 weeks going straight up Grin

How are you doing WO brothers!

It's been long days and I am alive.

Observing at $49,270!

Strong hands!

Meanwhile I'm looking at all these people with "Legendary" status not caring and just enjoying themselves.

Exactly this is just BTC going from weak to strong hands.
Some want out, others want in.

The longer we are at this level, the more will be invested at this level. Incentives to sell will diminish IMO...
Then we go up again....

Also keeps BTC out of the news. The later the FOMO the higher we go  Grin

I'm selling almost every day (DCA) to pay for our lake.

We started with regular cars, then lambos, now ranches and lakes...soon whole building blocks and/or villages, then islands, maybe asteroids, planets, stars, etc
  Grin

Calling dibs on Liechtenstein.

The big issues are how soon will it happen? (10-40 years my guess)

100-200 years my guess.

50 years since we left the Moon, and we still can't dig into Mars (equipment breaks), and we still can't bring a spoonful on Mars dirt back to Earth (too expensive).

Such a great feeling to go out shopping, come back a couple of hours later and realise that while you were out you made 400 times the money you spent shopping.

Man, next time I'll be buying a few more things...

Onwards & upwards!

HoDL.

I know the feeling when your btc balance in $ goes up and down a shitload of money and you don't think too much about it Cool

I don't know about anyone else, but i am here for the meme and hats!

Me Toooooo!!! Cheesy Cheesy

But I did figure out after like a few days that no one here knew jack sh!t about where the price is going and most of them were delusional f^cks that had wishful thinking depending on their political agendas. If they sold they wanted a dip. If they bought a dip, then they wanted the price to rise. It was just that simple. But I have no worries or care, very less if I have to buy back in at 50K or at more then that at a loss. Smiley ... For now the resistance is not breaking and we still need to go down if we want $100K+ soon. Smiley  Grin

Well this didn't age well ...
It's buying back higher than I guess?

Nope! ... I'm rushing to sell some more! Cheesy Cheesy

Don't forget to buy back at $150k  Tongue

still people think bitcoin will be $60k this march

It’s only $8.5k away. Can happen in 4 days with the current climb...

WO Thread now..

-You called top..
-You sold!!
-Nah.. you sold first!!

Why? I'm not aware of anyone here on WO who has actually sold recently. Perhaps that savetherainsforest guy if it actually happened. Because if you don't have BTC you can't sell BTC...  Grin

I did but just to test my crypto-to-bankaccount and back setup.
Want to make some more corn by selling high and buying back low.

591  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has Elon Musk's twit caused the Bitcoin bubble burst? on: March 02, 2021, 08:03:25 AM
I believe that Elon Musk tweets have influenced the rise in asset prices on crypto exchanges, but I don't think it's a bubble. An increase in the price of an asset is dominated by demand and supply. when market demand increases, the price will increase. So, when Elonmusk talks about bitcoin or doge, their fans will buy-in, and investors will also take advantage of the trend to make a profit.

Pump & dump
Elon is using Doge as an accelerator.

Buy Doge stealthy then promote it and make instant 800% over it.
Inject into Bitcoin and wait for that to go 400%.

So 1M becomes 8M becomes 64M... that’s how you make huge profits...
592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, I salute your final ATH. on: March 01, 2021, 05:22:06 PM
My original calculations were a little off and I did not expect fake news to push bitcoin's last bull run as high as ~$58k. The power of fake news is powerful. So there it is, the highest price bitcoin will ever see -- $58k. The next decade will be the story of the unwinding of bitcoin and all the chaos that will unfold as that process plays out. Congrats to anyone who sold at $58k, and good luck to the rest. I hope everyone is able to find an exit soon enough not to lose everything. Cheers, everyone. It's been a fun experiment, but this is the official, confirmed end.

I will just hope you will not lock this thread once the bitcoin start pumping above 58,000$.  Wink
I am sorry on your vision that bitcoin will only reach 58K. Also you think that no more institutions will invest in bitcoin ? Fundamentally bitcoin is stronger than ever so don't get panic on these small dips.

Proudhon is probably a whale scooping up all the coins sold by his victims...

594  Economy / Speculation / Re: $80k within 6 weeks, new ATH October 2021 on: March 01, 2021, 05:18:13 PM
The TradingView bullshit technical indicator thing has now flipped from 'buy' to 'neutral'.  The last time this happened it was an extremely bullish indicator.  Let's go!!!

I'm ready for $200k btc 😎

Looking at any technical analysis for Bitcoin is a complete waste of time. Only a comparison of the historical data from the post-halving period can give some information. I agree that this is just a correction and further price increases are ahead of us. I think $80k can be achieved in a few weeks, but $200k I don't think it will be reached this year.

You are right that $200k feels like pushing it but IMO 100k will happen and quite easily.
Looking at history we have a 4x-6x increase to go before it crashes down.
Remember last time the transactions became the bottleneck otherwise it would have gone up more. We now have LN and other additions.

IMO $120k stable. Instability will push bitcoin to $190k-$250k. Then down to $35k...

While calculating this morning I found this compelling resource. Looks like Chinese sources are confirming bitcoin's collapse. The Chinese government is expected to borrow against 30 year bond yield swaps and apply cash flow to aggressive bitcoin shorting.

China banned and destroyed bitcoin about 50 times. What makes you think that this time is different?
And if they short and we go up we will consume the chinese economy... Good enough for me  Kiss

P.S. We are going up again. Irrelevant coin to da moon!!!  Cool

Sorry - this is fake news, the source http://haschinabannedbitcoin.com confirms it.

Every user here are feeling bad for stopping the mining. Myself too have the same feeling, but I made a big blunder. I cashed out 1.5 btc worth of fiat to invest on mining equipments for ethereum. Finally just an year ago sold all the equipment for just around $1500. Atleast now if I had the equipment I could've made something. Looking the growth of the market, the timeline for bitcoin to touch $80k seems to be fair and targeting the ongoing year end it is time for investing.

Well I learnt that mining only had the benefit of paying your bitcoin through the energy bill.
Soon I figured out just buying bitcoin was safer and less of a hassle.
Investing in a GPU was worth it because you could game on it.
With dedicated mining equipment you see that shipments are delayed etc. So once you get to mining you are trying to get your money back. You might aswell buy the coins and have a drink and save yourself the risk....
