583  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: An idea to speed up bitcoin transactions on: November 15, 2012, 01:42:58 PM
this already exists in the form of the 'satoshi client'.

party B can already see that the money is 'on it's way', just by seeing it as an unconfirmed transaction in their client. you can even see unconfirmed transactions on http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/txlist unless that page is timing out too much these days.

sent to your sig address

585  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoins and big banks on: November 15, 2012, 10:32:50 AM

i was going to do this myself for a laugh, but i think i'll instead try getting it done through the power of bitcoin bounties.

0.5 btc for a modification of the above image which basically adds a 3rd section under the Dwolla one:

THE BITCOIN NETWORK

which just has money going from Your Wallet to Receiver's wallet.

under that, instead of a blocked out credit card, put a blocked out dwolla logo.

try to make it all fit in with the same styling, same fonts, etc, like it's supposed to be there.

should only take a few minutes for a photoshop guru.

Cheesy

Only bitcoinclock.com comes to mind.

i know the countdown's styling is still ugly, but i'm happy to share my code:

Code:
<?php

        $blockcount
=file_get_contents('http://blockexplorer.com/q/getblockcount');

$remaining_time = (210000 - ($blockcount 210000)) * 600;

$date_estimate date('Y-m-d H:i:s'time() + $remaining_time);

$r_seconds $remaining_time 60;

$time = ($remaining_time $r_seconds) / 60;

$r_minutes $time 60;

$time = ($time $r_minutes) / 60;

$r_hours $time 24;

$time = ($time $r_hours) / 24;

$r_days $time 7;

$time = ($time $r_days) / 7;

$r_weeks $time;

$r_parts = array();

        if (
$r_weeks 0$r_parts[] = ($r_weeks == 1) ? '<b>' $r_weeks .'</b> week' '<b>' $r_weeks .'</b> weeks';
        if (
$r_days 0$r_parts[] = ($r_days == 1) ? '<b>' $r_days .'</b> day' '<b>' $r_days .'</b> days';
        if (
$r_hours 0$r_parts[] = ($r_hours == 1) ? '<b>' $r_hours .'</b> hour' '<b>' $r_hours .'</b> hours';
        if (
$r_minutes 0$r_parts[] = ($r_minutes == 1) ? '<b>' $r_minutes .'</b> minute' '<b>' $r_minutes .'</b> minutes';

$r_str implode(', '$r_parts);
?>

Code:
<p><strong>Reward-Drop ETA:</strong> <?php echo $date_estimate?> (<?php echo $r_str?>)</p>

the code is ugly too, but it works Cheesy

592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google Blockchain Search? on: October 22, 2012, 12:22:06 AM
They will sooner or later realize that google checkout is inferior compared to Bitcoin technology.

And why someone will want for google to know and record you are looking up your secret ransom/drug money bitcoin address? Does not blockchain.info or blocexplorer.com work well enough?

Ah, yes. Didn't think of that one. Good point!

not only that, but google's spider already trawls blockchain.info and blockexplorer.com... go ahead try searching for an address in google.

Quote
silver to Bitcoin's [sic] gold

why does this phrase have the 'sic' qualifier? is the grammar incorrect?
594  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Looking for art photo touchup - 5 BTC on: October 15, 2012, 11:16:22 PM
i will give this a shot when i get home, but i just want to mention an idea here first...

after you get back all of the attempts, it may be possible to create an even higher quality fix by merging the best parts of each attempt into one image.

edit: if tehace's image above is not watermarked, wouldn't it be possible for people to *start* with that image and claim that they too have 'fixed' the image in the OP? (and get a free 0.5 BTC)?
595  Economy / Economics / Re: Science of Getting Rich on: October 15, 2012, 11:01:20 PM
If you can write good books, movies, etc you can become rich.

i disagree.

for making money, i think the marketing of the product is more important than the product itself.

i.e. If you can sell a book, movie, etc to millions of people you can become rich. (regardless of how crap it may be).
596  Other / Off-topic / Re: Let's talk about how hot Asian girls are. on: October 15, 2012, 12:17:01 PM

whoever videoed that should buy a new camera... his zoom function is obviously malfunctioning.
597  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Implementing bitcoin: retrieving the value? on: October 15, 2012, 05:45:27 AM
mtgox prices are based on supply and demand.

you could also consider basing your prices on customer supply and demand, which would probably naturally end up being something similar to mtgox's prices without actually relying on a connection to mtgox.
598  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The Legal Brainstorm on: October 15, 2012, 05:31:40 AM
If this forum is considered a public place, and you advertise the sale of shares of a security (which only needs to pass the Howey test to qualify), then you are under the SEC jurisdiction in the US.

 Huh

wouldn't that only apply if you are in the US?

So is this "hot dog stuffed crust pizza" thing real?

marketing department had better be careful with their hyphens...

hot-dog stuffed-crust pizza

hot dog-stuffed crust pizza
