581  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (Ordinals) BRC-20 needs to be removed on: May 11, 2024, 06:47:58 AM
the problem is the artificial growth that is happening due to spam.
What really worries me now is that there are barely any normal real Bitcoin transactions left. Mempool Goggles shows more than 90% of the blocks are filled with "data" (AKA spam). That leaves at most a few dozen "normal" Bitcoin transactions per minute. Bitcoin's transaction rate has always been limited around 7 tps, but currently real transactions barely make it to half a transaction per second. And some of the non-data Bitcoin transactions are like this: 3 dust inputs plus one normal input > 5 dust outputs plus 2 normal outputs. This is not the "adoption" I hoped for.
582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: A Bitcoin wallet that allows any low fee... on: May 11, 2024, 06:34:05 AM
There is nothing better than to download the full blockchain for easy wallet recovery.
Most people will never do that. If you have one wallet, it will always be synced on your pruned node.

I need to import a private key format
What are you trying to do? You jump from wanting to create a transaction that can only exist locally in your wallet to importing private keys. What's the goal here?
583  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 10, 2024, 08:35:26 AM
ChartBuddy gambling game, where you can bet on "higher" or "lower" within the 1st 5 mins of a ChartBuddy post.
That sounds fun Smiley Put me down for "higher" for the rest of eternity Tongue
584  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance on: May 10, 2024, 07:04:30 AM
The files haven't been updated in over a week
I get this data from Blockchair.com, and their last update is from April 19. Their other data is still being updated, so it looks like something is stuck with updating the Bitcoin addresses.

Files haven't been updated since 19 April 2024.
I posted both posts in the wrong topic. It's correct now, the other post is here. Both updates got stuck, one was waiting for the other, which was waiting for Blockchair. In short: the list of all addresses with a balance is not updated at the moment.
585  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses ever used - weekly updates work again! on: May 10, 2024, 07:03:51 AM
Is this thread still beeing updated?
It looks like the daily updates didn't happen, which means the weekly update had no fresh data. I'm not sure why, I'll check it tomorrow.

Update: it's fixed. It was waiting for another stuck update. The weekly update is running now, this takes a few hours to complete. Thanks for reporting this.

The fact that scammers are doing worse should not be taken as the basis to overlook what is not good just as it is also been overlooked in some other aspects of the forum where rules are supposed to be adjusted for obvious reasons.
It's the other way around: if something that's worse didn't lead to a change of rules, it's not very realistic to expect the lesser evil to lead to change.
587  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Need suggestion for a good Monero wallet on: May 10, 2024, 06:47:22 AM
I am running the wallet for a few days. The balance is still zero [The required block height yet to be found]
That's why you should write down the block height or date with the seed words. But that's for next time Wink
588  Other / Meta / Re: Are no-KYC services banned? on: May 10, 2024, 06:45:03 AM
If this forum bans all non-KYC exchanges I guarantee you that members are going to be doing a 180 and praising once-reviled exchanges like Binance and Coinbase and stuff.
Only if they start a signature campaign here, which I don't expect.

Whether you like it or not, when you talk about a mixing service, you automatically mean it as being used to move money obtained illegally, in order to lose track of it. Therefore, even if our use is not for this purpose, this is the tag that these services have before the authorities.
The Dutch authorities disagree with you:

that is the future and it will go back to a paper bag with cash in it when you want to move wealth on the sneak.
That's another thing they're slowly banning. The maximum amount you're allowed to pay in cash gets lower and lower. That's going to stop honest people, while criminals are breaking the law already.
589  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Need suggestion for a good Monero wallet on: May 10, 2024, 05:47:29 AM
it's taking hours to synchronize. I needed something like Electrum
It's a feature, not a bug. Sharing your view key with the server is bad for privacy.
I would just keep Feather wallet running for a few days until it's done. No big deal.
590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: May 09, 2024, 06:56:49 AM
*Maybe* it might also be possible for a node operator to manually specify the kind of UTXOs that it wants excluded from the UTXO set.
If your node excluded an UTXO, and a miner includes it anyway, your node will reject the valid block.
591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MemoryDealers aka Roger Ver Arrested! on: May 09, 2024, 06:00:28 AM
Who's to say Vitalik Buterin, Charles Hoskinson, and Gavin Wood are next? If everyone followed Satoshi's footsteps, crypto land would be a much better place. Sad
I don't see Satoshi buying billion dollar yachts. I think most people wouldn't like to be very rich in crypto if they can't spend it.
592  Other / Meta / Re: question on posting pictures on: May 09, 2024, 05:35:43 AM
What's the best way to host your pictures? Why, you should own your own domain name, and host it.
That's what I do. But: if I quit, my images will be gone. And that's why a dedicated image hosting service can be better, unless it stops working. Like Tinypic did. Like Imgur did.
593  Other / Meta / Re: Are no-KYC services banned? on: May 08, 2024, 06:46:35 PM
Cars, guns and knives can be used to commit crimes, but as long as you don't talk about this = ok.
Are cars, guns and knives under attack by the government just like privacy tools and crypto are?
Like needing training, a license, insurance and MOT? I wouldn't call it an "attack", but it's strictly regulated.

Quote
Would you say cars, guns and knives are in risk of getting banned just like no-KYC services are?
Gasoline cares are already banned from some cities, guns are banned in general in my country, and knives aren't allowed to be caried in a growing number of cities either. I'm not sure now if it's the best comparison though: not many people will discuss online about replaying Death Race 2000 in real life. But we do have an ever growing government, and they won't volunteer to give back freedoms.

Two hundred and sixty-eighth week paid.
Thanks again for your flawless timing! I'm slightly late, because the kids needed my attention. My wife is gone for a few days. Nothing I can't handle, but it's more work this way.
595  Other / Meta / Re: Are no-KYC services banned? on: May 08, 2024, 03:27:40 PM
So basically, talking/marketing about cleaning coins = banned.

No-KYC service *can* be used to clean coins but doesn't publicly talk about this = ok
This is my interpretation:
Talking/marketing about committing crimes = banned.

Cars, guns and knives can be used to commit crimes, but as long as you don't talk about this = ok.

Disclaimer: I strongly dislike the notion of taint. There are no bad Bitcoins, but there are bad people.

597  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (Ordinals) BRC-20 needs to be removed on: May 08, 2024, 10:10:18 AM
To me, this was acceptable until it reached thousands of OP_RETURN transactions per block.
you can't have it both ways. you either accept and support OP_RETURN and allowing people to store data on the blockchain or you say "No, I don't agree with OP_RETURN at all. Bitcoin was not meant for people to think of as any type of data storage." period the end.
Why not? People opinion isn't limited to yes or no. That's why Likert scale (strongly disagree to strongly agree or 1 to 5) exist.
I'm with ABCbits on this. My percention changed once it was abused too much. There's a limit to what's acceptable. I used to be okay with online ads, until it overtook my entire screen and added sound. So I installed an adblocker and have blocked millions of ads since then.
598  Other / Meta / Re: Are illegal services using impersonation allowed? on: May 08, 2024, 09:12:41 AM
They do it because mixers let bad people in.
Even worse: some mixers may be created by bad people.

Quote
If those mixers were doing kyc, they wouldn’t have been seized. I know it sounds retarded but that’s how it is.
It will be a cold day in hell before I send my passport picture to an anonymous website.

Quote
If mixers make kyc mandatory, they’ll have their yuuge business back.
There is no business for mixers with KYC. Who's going to fall for "Hey, if you give me $10000 and let me take a high resolution photograph of you holding your passport, I give you back $9500"? If anything, honest users who want privacy won't use it, and criminals would pay some poor guy a couple of bucks to use his ID. "Money Muling" is already a problem for fully regulated banks.
599  Other / Meta / Re: Are no-KYC services banned? on: May 08, 2024, 09:06:18 AM
By the logic of this removal also maybe Bustabit should be banned because in their site they advertise mixing with just different words:
Who do they offer privacy from? Other players, random internet users, or governments? I assume the casino logs all transactions and winnings.

What if I use Bitcoin to exchange it for a shitcoin, and I use those shitcoins to buy Bitcoin again?
You can do that. But if you'd offer such a service on Bitcointalk without KYC, it's part of theymos' "mixer definition", and not allowed. It's like the elephant in the room: everyone knows about it, but as long as you don't mention it, it's okay.

What about lending? someone can use lending as a loophole to trade same coins.
There will always be loopholes, and this may become a risk for lenders at some point.

By law all mixers including conjoin are indirectly banned because they support no KYC.
Which law? Of which country?
