61  Economy / Economics / Re: Surviving in this economy needs a new minds set on: May 02, 2024, 06:22:24 PM
Investing in crypto currencies like Bitcoin is not a bad idea at all
How does bitcoin come into this and how is it going to improve the economic situation of your country. So many of you do not really understand what bitcoin is, it is not a panacea to the world's problems; it is just a decentralized currency that hasn't even been massively adopted around the world.

If you want a better economic situation for yourself, then your nation should elect good/competent leaders. Take your time to also better your own chances of success by learning new skills, taking up extra jobs and learning how to earn money from different sources.
62  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beginning an adventure to learn about Bitcoin on: May 02, 2024, 05:34:08 PM
Here are my questions -
  • As a newbie, should I focus solely on Bitcoin, or should I also acquire basic knowledge of altcoins?
  • Is Bitcoin gender specific ?(is it meant for a specific gender?)
Since Bitcoin is a decentralized network without any authority controlling it, who is going to stop anyone (or a specific gender) from using it, nobody even has to know what your gender is before you use BTC, and i don't know where you have come about that idea.

That being said, the drawback with altcoins is their lack of utility, thus they are quite risky for a newbie as they could end up buying coins that end up worthless. If you don't want to be a bagholder in your early days in the industry, then buy bitcoin, because it has an actual utility and would not end up like most altcoins do.
63  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Local Board Moderator; Your honest feedback here. on: May 01, 2024, 08:41:09 PM
Thanks guys. I'm your Mod.
Congratulations on being appointed as the moderator for our local section, now it would be easier and quicker to get the local section cleaned up, as a Nigerian would now handle reports in this section. Another good news for our local section, next thing is to get some childboards and prolly another local board merit source. Congrats once again mate.
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Forbes' ‘Good for Nothing' Blockchains on: May 01, 2024, 08:30:40 PM
Monero definitely doesn't fall under "unproven and have little utility other than for speculative crypto trading", that is very wrong, Monero is a great privacy coin and quite a lot of people use it to keep their transactions untraceable, this is a good enough utility from my point of view and that of a lot of people in the industry.

I don't know how they came up with this list and how they determined that these coins/blockchains are good-for-nothing, but just for the fact they have Monero in their list, i am pretty sure they didn't do any research.
65  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin for newbies like me on: May 01, 2024, 06:53:27 PM
From my little experience, I must confess that Bitcoin transaction is actually reversible, but that is if only the transaction fee is not enough so as to enable it have a slot in the next consecutive blocks, because I have had a transaction which got reverse before, after staying pending for over a week and on the 7th day It was cancelled due to low fee to grant it's space in the Bitcoin blocks.
That transaction was not confirmed, Bitcoin transactions is not reversible once it has been confirmed and added into a block, but if it is still unconfirmed and in the mempool, then you can double spend the transaction by using the same input in another transaction that pays a higher fee, and send it back into your address.

Bitcoin unconfirmed transactions can also be purged out of the mempool if numerous nodes drop the transaction or it can turn "Local" if the node/server you are connected to drops the transaction, then you can be able to spend it again in another transaction.
66  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this an obvious misuse of merit? on: May 01, 2024, 06:12:08 PM
My question: How you can say he misuses merit if he didn't even send the merit to the correct guessers?
OP is asking here if the neutral tag is justifiable and if merits should be used for such purposes.
I'd say the neutral feedback is more necessary since it can warn him to not continue the giveaway...
Why is it necessary to warn people on what they should or shouldn't do with their smerits, of course we know users should not sell their smerits, but that is not the case here. The feedback is unnecessary and should not have been left.
67  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: What has the FCCPC achieved? on: May 01, 2024, 10:09:57 AM
“Nigerians are quick to adjust prices when it is going up and favour them, but when prices go down, they are slow to do that. This is not our character at Indomie,” he said

Deflation is not easy to achieve is what we are experiencing. The government are not capable in having excellent price control and monitoring. FCCPC did nothing.
This one na true, it is so easy for companies and individual businesses to increase the prices of goods and services in Nigeria, but very difficult for them to reduce it when the economic situation gets a little bit better. Though one reason why dem dey do like that na because dem know say if thing better small, it is only temporary, and after sometime again we would be back to the same bad situation. That one no be excuse anyway, even if prices are adjusted regularly (both up and down), e no bad, wetin matter na say the prices of goods dey reflect the present/current economic realities.
N650 per litres are you kidding me? Man I've been buying at N720 since last month and I'm sure with the Scarcity News they might just increase it to N800 this week. Nigerians like to exploit Nigerians.
Fuel price for Nigeria dey differ based on the state wey person dey, even within the same state sev the price dey still differ. E.G. in my area some filling stations dey sell at 705/ltr, while some dey sell at 695/ltr.
68  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: What has the FCCPC achieved? on: April 30, 2024, 09:55:54 PM
Petrol did not went up in price since many months ago.
I know that the price of fuel didn't increase recently, but it does not mean that the price of fuel is cheap. For my side the cost of fuel na N700/ltr and that is really high. Wetin me i dey talk be say transportation dey very important to the economy and to businesses, thus if businesses dey pay almost three times of wetin dem dey pay before in order to get their goods to the final consumer, then na normal thing say e go cause an increase in the price of commodities, so it is another factor to consider when we dey talk about the high cost of goods and services.
69  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet Help on: April 30, 2024, 09:42:00 PM
A big source of my confusion is how to buy/sell through these wallet software suites instead of using a brokerage console.
Electrum and all other wallet softwares are not exchanges, so you cannot buy and sell bitcoin through them, you need to use an exchange for that, and you have to decide if it is going to be centralized or decentralized exchanges.
I gotta say…….. after perusing Bitcoin.org website to compare wallets, and learning a bit more, it seems that the best software wallet to use is Bitcoin Core wallet! As long as I can transfer coin from it to the hardware wallet, it should be gold!
I don't quite get you, of course you can transfer bitcoins from any wallet software to your address on your hardware wallet.
Is this a better/more secure approach?
It is a full node wallet and if you have all the requirements to run one, then that is fine. It is only better and more secure because you run your own node, and you don't have to connect to servers of third parties. That being said, you can keep your coins safe even in an SPV wallet.
70  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: What has the FCCPC achieved? on: April 29, 2024, 11:49:56 PM
E get many factors wey dey contribute to the high cost of goods/commodities in Naija, no be only value of our Naira against the dollar. The removal of fuel subsidy and resultant high cost of fuel is also a factor wey we suppose consider, businesses must transport their goods before it gets to the final consumer, so the high cost of fuel also contributes to the hike in prices of goods in the market.
Just Indomie and rice price that I know decreased in price among the consumable products. Almost all other products prices are still high.
I hear say the prices of electronic gadgets also fell too, i no know if na true because i no get need of such now, so i cannot verify.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What did you think about the future of dogecoin? on: April 29, 2024, 10:13:16 PM
Mind you that when you ask about things like this, people who hodl the coin are going to tell you to keep on hodling, at least it helps the coins performance if more and more people are hodling it.

Dogecoin is a meme coin and i noticed that the hype around meme coins is slowly fading away, and they are basically pump and dump coins that can be easily manipulated, even by something as flimsy as a tweet. If you can make ROI in the short term i would advice you sell once you make profit, because there is no use cases that can make meme coins sustainable for the long term.
72  Other / Meta / Re: ThemePen - Merit Source Application on: April 29, 2024, 09:40:02 PM
I read in another reputable member's merit source application thread that Theymos isn't considering adding new merit sources right now, and that the situation might not change for at least another six months or so, thus if you are going to get lucky with your application, you have some waiting to do.

Just like other have said, your username does not stick out like that of other reputable users waiting in the pipeline, but you are applying for the role in your local board, and i am pretty sure your profile sticks out in your local community, so goodluck and over to you Theymos, an additional application.

74  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it advisable for a beginner to invest in a newly launch project? on: April 28, 2024, 10:25:17 PM
You asked a question in your subject title, and then went ahead to answer yourself in the content of your OP, lol.

The thing with new coins/altcoins is their lack of utility, quite a lot of them are copy and paste of past projects that have failed, with fake/unrealistic promises and many times even plagiarized whitepaper's. The thing is, research cannot even help you with projects like these, because all could seem good after your research, but the project still turns out to be a scam in the end or it just fails because there is no utility to keep it alive for the long term.
75  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Local Board Moderator; Your honest feedback here. on: April 28, 2024, 08:14:47 PM
E nor get anybody wey nor go like this thing. But I wan ask how the moderator task go be. Him go dey delete post abi him go dey report spam post to the general local boards moderators.
Local board moderators go dey delete spam posts wey dey for their local section, e no go make sense say dem go dey report am elsewhere. Abeg e get anything like general local boards moderator, i never read such a thing for this forum and i no sure say e dey exist. We really need a local moderator in our local section, and if we get that one, na child boards go be next on the agenda.
76  Economy / Speculation / Re: After the dip in crypto, when are we expecting ath? on: April 28, 2024, 07:43:13 PM
Im expectinng ATH inn 2025 actually, not this year.
It will hopefully be my last crypto season and I plan to invest less after I quit crypto as much as I can.
I am guessing you are referring to bitcoin, if so, then yes the next ATH might be next year, though it could still happen this year, just as we were not expecting bitcoin to set a new ATH before the halving, but it did, the spot ETF's being the difference. That being said, it looks like you are ready to sell all your bitcoins in the next pump to ATH, i wouldn't do that if i were you, you might prolly regret that you do not own bitcoins sometime in the future.
77  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Profit evaluation – Hodl instead of mining on: April 28, 2024, 06:55:56 PM
For mining, it needs to be mentioned to know about very technical details.
This isn't the major limitation in mining bitcoin. It is the cost of mining that you must consider first, these costs include that of electricity, mining hardware, maintenance, etc. For example, if you don't have access to cheap electricity, you cannot make profit from mining bitcoin.
Hosted miners or Cloud Miners are even charging a fee to set up and operate mining devices which will decrease your mining rewards even more but you won't have to care for technical details to set it up and maintain it.
Cloud mining does not count. Most of it is just scam and nothing else.
78  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will communism ever be realized? on: April 28, 2024, 10:44:51 AM
There are only a few communist countries in this present time, and this goes to show that communism is not a panacea to the world's problems, neither is it an attractive economic and political system. I don't think it is possible to achieve equality and for people to be paid based on their needs, overtime people would definitely want more and their needs would also keep on rising.

Capitalism creates competition and allows people to freely make attempts at getting rich and richer, it does not always favor the majority, but at least there is a chance for everyone, because it is a free market and that is why it is widely adopted.
79  Economy / Economics / Re: Cbdc and new financial system and lobby on: April 28, 2024, 09:43:58 AM
You don't need to think about it and it Will be not on the news like: hey, we gona use eth xrp or solana and btc will be our ( reserve Global central blockchain collateral asset)
CBDC's are centralized and issued by the Central Bank of the issuing country, thus they cannot use a decentralized bockchain like that of Bitcoin which is free & open source and run by different nodes all around the world, of which anyone can be a participant. CBDC's are going to run on a blockchain that is private and only accessible to the issuers, which is the government and the central Banks. The government already have all this planned out and there is no such lobby for this.
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who are the people manipulating Helium HNT? I need to talk to you. on: April 27, 2024, 10:59:14 PM
How do you know that the whales manipulating that coin are users in this forum, and even if we agree that they are, why would a whale want to PM you about that. Shitcoins and shit tokens can easily be manipulated, it is a known fact in the industry, if you are hodling this coin, and the manipulation is what's troubling you, then maybe you should sell it and buy a coin that has actual utilities.
