Im really unsure of where we are headed on this one so I am sitting on the sidelines right now. About 70% in cash and 30% in BTC. If we spike below 5 again I will grab up all the coins I can..

When you initiated the 4% mandatory fee it was because you said you were reliable now. Now with this major outage will you be rolling back the mandatory fees?

I sold my buy in when it tanked. so haven't bought at all. Did MT Gox have problems letting folks buy? You had to wait 20 minutes, seriously? Look back in the thread. It was happening to me too. Time to ask for a fee rollback from Gox...for the rest of the Month. They screwed over too many people for too much money with ineptness this time around. Gox is not the problem; its Bitcoinica. +1 Also I didnt get screwed, I profited since I wasnt leveraged. |

Also Zhoutong is in Singapore so unless you are there only Interpol can do something and I wouldn't be counting on that any time soon. As I said many orders never see the light of day on MTGox and this is what allows him to charge such low fees. As someone else said you have no proof and probably have yourself to blame for bragging.

Oh this is rich, the cops aren't going to do a damn thing and will probably just laugh at you. Cops barely show up to violent crimes let alone white collar ones if thats what this is. It might not have hit the market because Zhoutong has said many times that a lot of the trading is done inside bitcoinica there and many orders never see gox. I am of the theory that this could be zhoutong but I find your post just amusing. This is what you get for trusting your money to a 17 year old in Thailand. |

MtGox's HTTPS will prevent any MITM attack unless the attacker compromises a CA or something.
Just curious theymos, what is your take on what was going on with all the charts when it was cycling in a loop between 6 and 7? After about 25 minutes those cycles were erased and the market sat at 6 until orders that were placed during the swings on the charts were executed. Anything is possible and I have never seen anything like what happened today. |

The orders showed as being executed then were later removed from charting sites. If you look at charts people posted during the swings it was different. How many other pools are down right now?
So you think...someone got into MtGox and is pushing fake data out it's API and other sources to multiple exchanges and charting websites to cause massive swings in the markets ? Pool ops deal with botnets all the time, they aren't being attacked. Why does one 400 GH pool being down have on an 9.1 TH network immediately signal some type of coordinated attack LOL ? And your guess the attacker being "either someone who lost a lot of money or the government"...no comment. If you know what MITM stands for they didnt have to get into bitcoinica just in between them and their ISP. Then the packets could be dropped and replaced or spoofed. Someone could have spoofed the address and syntax from the API sending false information to the charting sites. As for the pool I just thought it was interesting timing. That 500Ghash (what it has been lately) is a pretty good chunk of the global hash rate. I was wondering if other pools were not responding but it certainly would be one way to try and cause damage within the bitcoin community. I see deepbit is still up so I guess I will be using them until ABC comes back online. Just between Bitcoinica and their ISP...this would allow for switching/rejecting of packets to/from Bitcoinica only...has no effect over MtGox's API that servers the rest of the charting sites. Unless you're saying they also got in between Bitcoinica <-> MtGox and MtGox <-> Charting websites ?! Highly unlikely to me. Just trying to piece together your theory here... 500 Ghash of 9.1 Thash is only 5.5%, and that's rounded up. Maybe our definitions of "pretty good chunk" aren't the same on this. I'm still quite intrigued on how you think MITM plays out in all of this, because I just don't see it. I mistyped. I meant between Gox and ISP. This would explain what was going on with the charts. |

Buy Bitcoins with your own fucking money. Save them. Trade if the market goes crazy in a direction.

Oh, zhoutong most certainly is! The bank always wins! i really wonder about this. whenever he liquidates someone it means their acct moved into negative territory and HE has to take the loss in those situations where he had to provide liquidity from his reserves when there was no matching order to be found. multiply this over many accts both up and down in this huge whipsaw and he could get wiped out, i think. He wouldnt have lost a dime. He made a fortune I am sure. The shorts and the longs all got liquidated= pure profit. It is for this reason I question his integrity and wonder if he is the one moving the market with his now large collection of USD and BTC. He certainly has the means to do this unlike anyone else. |

The order book looked convincing that we werent going to see $7 any time soon so he probably figured he had time to cancel his order. Even if he was rapidly clicking liquidate during this it wouldnt make one bit of difference because the site wouldnt be able to liquidate his position in time. Hopefully an expensive lesson learned. Next time buy and sell the coins directly without leverage and you will never have 0.

With this strange activity going on with MTgox and now ABCPool has gone down I have to wonder if we are dealing with a co-ordinated attack on the community. This could also be behind the big dump in price. It would seem someone has a beef with bitcoins and my bet is on either someone who lost a lot of money or the government.

All those lines disappeared so the rally may very well have been caused by the charts going haywire. There were a lot more swings between 6 and 7 before it was "corrected".
