621  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you take time to read the terms and conditions of casinos before registering? on: December 16, 2023, 12:27:38 AM
I actually spend time reading on bitcointalk and try to search if there have been any accusations and if they happened to be at all credible if they had a good resolution.

Bitcointalk as a public forum is very good at showcasing a platform's noteworthyness and trust. So as an old forum, I tend to trust it as a staple for anything related to gambling.
622  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can I ask for refund if casino game has bugs? on: December 15, 2023, 09:52:43 PM
Why would you be asking for a refund when winning the jackpot? This would be the subject of a lawsuit if it were a brick and mortar casino. There have been cases like this where the party suing might have won a good settlement but with out of court settlements it's hard to predict how much they might have earned.

In cases where there might be a bug usually it becomes more noticable when large winnings are denied. But also in cases where overt losses are caused it could become the subject of a dispute. Good luck with that on non jurisdictional casinos though. 🙄 Overall it's a matter of trust, casinos working with crypto exclusively work a lot on their customer's satisfaction and reputation but if s large dispute arises it who knows what's gonna happen.
623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you remember when Twitch banned gambling? Now they allow nudity! on: December 15, 2023, 09:38:16 PM
Artistic nudity that is  Cheesy

It's quite ironic if you think about it, but it was also kinda allowed before too?
It was just informal and sometimes creators doing body paint.

To be honest I kinda understand the limitations on gambling, many outright scams were promoted. But also worth noting that twitch didn't want to get involved at all at helping gambling safer. They still allowed sports and poker, which could also be scams... They could have just demanded provable fairness on the other sites, but they didn't...

So now the main viewership on twitch is just softcore  Roll Eyes
The more educated viewers will be on kick in the meantime.
624  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you make gambling a profession - a full time job on: December 15, 2023, 09:23:50 PM
Gambling as in spending your own money to wager and risk, I don't think that can become a profession unless there's somehow another source of income connected to it. For example this could be ad revenue if many viewers are attracted. But that's not very sustainable for many people.

On the other hand, I think there's some value in reviewing casinos and providing insight to players. Which requires certain skills and if done correctly could attract traffic and therefore become a source of revenue.

Otherwise thought, if you expect to earn reliable income simply by wagering, you are probably going to end up burned sooner or later.
625  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone knows if OCEAN will go public? on: December 15, 2023, 12:07:59 AM
Why all this nonsense and tomfoolery?

OCEAN pool is only a couple of weeks old, clearly the hashrate is growing and has grown since it opened.

So what I don't understand is why there has to be so much directed hate.

Clearly by the fundamentals there's no better pool to mine at.
0% fees and no share ramp-down where each participant's shares are receiving all the rewards of pool luck?
This all makes up for the most profitable pool setup for miners out there.  Cool

So that's the scare tactic if someone hates the pools founder now maybe?
When you can't deny facts just make things up I guess?
626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Heritage is Some How Spiritual on: December 14, 2023, 11:57:22 PM
Many people would play from a very young age to their local club, and growing up would see people helping their local club be built up from the ground up and in many cases become popular.

So the base of football as a working class sport, growing a club with little contributions for many people is what placed it close to everyone's hearts in many places. However I think that passion is kind of wearing off a little now that big capital investors are getting involved and making everything more commercialized for the big leagues. We'll see in the following decades what happens but me personally I am already a little sick with 1st leagues and their shenanigans. I'd much rather watch my team from my village play amateur game and spend my money there, knowing it would contribute to actually local people in a big way instead of counting as profit stats in a big foreign investor's pockets.
627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you wrap up your gambling session? on: December 14, 2023, 11:54:08 PM
I try to set weekly limits on my gambling and if I trend to loosing or wagering too much on a single day then I wouldn't be able to enjoy gambling for the rest of the days of the week within my limits.
Having discipline is good for being a healthy gambler. So wrapping up your session based on a limit, usually money based but also time based, is a good practice actually.
628  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you be annoyed not knowing the cards that made you fold? on: December 14, 2023, 11:51:46 PM
Is that normal for a poker experience?
Being someone who has gotten used to online tables, I have been used to seeing other people's hands.

This really depends on house rules and how strict a dealer would be I guess.
Not that it matters for the outcomes, but sometimes it's just common courtesy. Best to follow the rules and if someone discovers they don't like the rules they can of course leave. Many casinos to chose from.
629  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone knows if OCEAN will go public? on: December 14, 2023, 11:32:23 PM
Naturally a pool with lower than 1% of the network's hashrate will not have that much of a stable block finding rate. But as the hashrate increases the rate of finding blocks will also become more stable.

Currently Ocean is the most profitable choice to mine on purely on fundamentals, given that it has a 0% fee rate. So that's good.  Cool
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Target your wins in a series of bets on: December 13, 2023, 09:32:02 PM
Keep in mind that chasing wins can be considered a bad practice also in many circumstances.
There's no sure strategy and if sports are played fairly you can't be sure of the outcome and there can be unpredictable results also.

So if it was certain that you would win 4/10 and you actually lost most, it would make sense to make more bets to catch up. But it doesn't actually work that way. Eatch match actually has its own individual odds. So we're getting into the betting version of the gambler's fallacy.

For me what makes most sense is to just play for fun and try to make predictions about matches you know the best about.
631  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The need for mental section or public orientation for new gamblers. on: December 13, 2023, 09:20:31 PM
Getting advice from non experts can lead to some harmful circumstances.

If someone comes to the point of being a problem gambler and facing addiction, it's always best to seek accredited help from professionals, join group therapy in a recognized organization etc.

So I don't think it would be a good idea to create such section of the forum. Let alone all the promotion and interests going on here. For problem gsmblers it's best to abstain.
632  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ 2023 - FIFA Club World Cup - Saudi Arabia ⚽ on: December 13, 2023, 09:17:00 PM
Anyone know of any crypto bookmakers featuring these matches? I had a hard time finding a list on odds sites, seems like this cup is not very popular with all bookmakers yet?
633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Vulnerability that allowed Ordinals to exist now has its own CVE code on: December 13, 2023, 09:11:10 PM

- Monero (Mordinals... believe it or not, its a thing now  Cheesy )
I'm pretty sure if any developer were to move fast preventing on-chain spam, if would be Mknero's.
It's pretty easy to patch any decentralized cryptocurrency so that their nodes no longer transmit this type of data. No hard fork needed.
Already I think the hype of Ordinals on Monero died before it actually managed to catch on, but they could be done with it any moment.
634  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one you are good at? on: December 11, 2023, 04:06:37 PM
I think that a gambler has to be careful of both. Both taking care of your balance and making the right decisions has a big impact on the outcomes. It's very easy to go bust if you make very risky bets for example. And then, if your compulsive you can mismanage your bankroll and lose even more than you can afford.

So in conclusion both are very bad practices if you mismanage them.
635  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone knows if OCEAN will go public? on: December 11, 2023, 04:03:50 PM
Luke's proposed update isn't that much related to inscriptions utilizing an exploit to get unlimited data into transactions.
Luke has patched Knots Bitcoin client to include further filtering, but core is likely to be patching the unlimited data exploit though OP codes independently of that. It's important to make a distinction between the two but also important to understand that neither is an outright ban.

We are not talking about a hard or soft fork here. Changing these parameters is merely a recommendation. A miner with a forked client could mine whatever they want in terms of data size included in their transactions. Although they'd surely need some peers accepting this in order to have their newly mined block propagated and validated by others too.
636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bankroll! on: December 11, 2023, 01:46:56 PM
I know there are bettors here who dream of investing in sports betting and hoping to consistently make money from it.

So, I'd like to ask the following questions:

1. How much bankroll can you afford to start with?

2. With your bankroll, how much expected profit do you anticipate in a year?

3. Will you be content with your profit? If not, have you considered increasing your bankroll, even if you cannot afford it?
1. At a maximum I try to bet with 1% of my monthly income and a hard limit would be 5% but no more after that win or lose. If I win I set a rule to cash out though.
2. Not expecting anything. I am telling myself that in order to gamble in a healthy manner I must do it for fun and not chase profits. Yes, I might win, but that's a byproduct of playing for fun and in case it happens I just cash out and don't think about it much.
3. Sometimes if I hit a big winning streak, I will not put any of my salary income in the casino and just only cashout part of the profits to play with the rest. The more this happens the better. Cheesy
637  Economy / Gambling discussion / With gambling, it's probably easier to quit cold turkey on: December 10, 2023, 06:01:18 PM
If someone is a problem gambler and has repeatedly relapsed to problematic behavior related to gambling, I have come to the conclusion that it's best to quit cold turkey.

With other things it can sometimes be recommended that the addict slowly winds down their consumption of the addictive activity or substance, but that doesn't sound very realistic with gambling, does it?

Quitting cold turkey, contemplating on your mistakes and talking about it with a group and some experts sounds like the best path. What are your thoughts? Could a problem gambler quit slowly and expect realistic improvements?
638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Aspect of Sports Betting or Casino Gambling Posed a Challenge for You? on: December 10, 2023, 05:52:27 PM
For me slots actually pose a challenge to understand but I don't think it's just me being inexperienced with them.

I hear terms like RTP and multiplier and have to think that these mean very little when the slot game doesn't ever tell you your win chances, or the possibilities of hitting certain multipliers that are advertised. The term volatility is also thrown in there to make things even more confusing and less transparent. I can't help but wonder if all this opaqueness is there on purpose of if I would be the only one caring when it comes to slots.

For these reasons I struggle to feel comfortable playing slots.
639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has anyone here started with a decent bankroll in sports? on: December 10, 2023, 05:49:19 PM
It's not realistic to expect a reliable win rate on sports gambling. That doesn't change if you make the starting balance bigger actually.
Besides, being right 60% of the time can mean very little when the odds are often providing profits that are very miniscule.

So all in all, I think the subject is approached with a wrong mindset here to begin with. Just bet with what you are comfortable to lose based on your current income and savings. Don't start with any amount you can't live comfortably with if you lose it. For some 2k will be peanuts, but I doubt there's many people like that actually.
640  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tucker Carlson Launches New Subscription-Based Site on: December 10, 2023, 04:53:56 PM
That's where the money is these days.
Milking Republicans out of all their pennies. I guess politics is the new televangelism.
That's how Alex Jones made his Fortune, Rush Limbaugh too, how Trump funded his lawsuits... It just goes on.
History just repeats itself and people never seem to learn anything.
