661  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Nigerian street pranks and its effect. on: October 16, 2023, 10:08:46 PM
Pranking people on the street has become a common order with no consideration of the victim's emotional/psychological state of mind.
It is actually disgusting seeing the extent some people go to create content. No safety measure in place for some of them and they can actually cause someone sick to have crisis. For example, this one uses fake snake to prank random people on the street. This is extremely dangerous! If they use only those among their crew for the prank, it would have been better to avoid any emergency. Besides, we already know it is just script they are acting.

Entertainment is not bad, as a matter of fact I enjoy watching them alot but when you ridicule or take advantage of the ignorance of others just to create your content, it becomes a problem.
I don't know if there are regulations to these things but I think government have to do more in this regards to avoid emergency. Content creators have to be guided by rules that guarantee public safety.

Lots of youths now see content creating as the new oil well yet lack creativity.  Prank is the new trend now. Recently watched a video of a prankster asking an adolescent for nudes.what a prank! That was the height of it. The Nigerian government should do something about this ridiculous pranks . It is becoming alarming . Content creation in Nigeria should be regulated.  Content creators with inappropriate contents should be sectioned accordingly.

Wrong spellings, grammatical errors and wrong punctuations can utter the message we are trying to pass across. Most of us here only adopted English language as a second language.
We are not perfect.

In order not to utter the meaning we had in mind, we must preview, read again and again,  then post! We should not forget to follow up our posts. You might come back to read the post you made 5 mins ago and spot an error.  Especially for us that our mother language tend to interfer with our grammar. Fortunately,  there is an 'edit' option. You still have another chance to correct the mistake(s) you made earlier.
663  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fight against corruption on: October 16, 2023, 09:02:16 PM
How easy for a new president who is been elected to fight corruption in a nation where all the systems of government is been corrupted,  like in the force,  and judiciary,  even the politicians.

Having  the mind to stop corruption is not easy in a nation that corruption  is seen as nothing, making an attempt to do so some politicians will do everything to frustrate the agenda. Do you think a genuine president can easily end corruption of this level ?
Fighting corruption in any country can be redeemed if a credible president said is what he wants to do, why corruption continue to spine in a country that is corrupted is because of godfather's, if a president who is corrupt succeeded planting a successor that means the country is still unbalance, the incoming person will like to act on the capacity of the previous leader.

One person alone cannot fight corruption, especially in a system that has been corrupt for decades. Corruption is a canker worm that has eaten deep into almost every household. Out of 100%, only a tiny percentage of the people can boldly say they do not  engage in corrupt practices. We in one way or the other encourage corruption yet still blame the government for being corrupt.  We all have at some points encouraged tribalism,  nepotism,  favoritism , godfatherism etc. We only tag it bad when it does not favour us.
The president alone cannot stop thousands of people from promoting corruption. Only the few that are caught face the consequences while the majority not caught blame the culprits  for not being careful.

Fight against corruption is a collective effort.  If the president is good and the masses are corrupt,  it will be difficult for one man to achieve a corrupt free society. While blaming the government,  we too as citizens need to refrain from all forms of corrupt so the fight will not be in vain.
664  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Implications of War on Individuals on: October 16, 2023, 08:33:00 PM
I hate wars. I hate conflicts. Both they are almost unavailable. Wars and conflicts disrupts lives. It kills people - men, women, babies. Businesses are shot down. Schools are shot down. Boys become father's and look after their moms and siblings because their father has gone to war. Daughters become mothers and have to care for their siblings because they lose their mothers to war. Children with perfectly normal lives become refugees

Wars and conflicts doesn't give you the time to plan. It happens fast and it happens suddenly. It comes with a huge economic cost. And for us in the cryptocurrency, we are not exempted too. If you are a miner, your mining operation is affected because if you are caught up in the conflict, you have to abandon it and flee so that you do not get killed.

I am deeply saddened by these wars. I am not taking sides because there are human causalities in both sides.

- do you have any survival tips during war period?
- are there any business that I can do during a period of war so as to sustain my family? Can I still budget, save and earn in Bitcoin?
- What is the economic impacts on individuals with families and how do I sustain them during war period.

War destroys lives and properties, It disrupts peace of mind, businesses crumble,  loved ones are lost in the battle field your freedoms is restricted.  If your mind  can be at rest to think of a business to do other than staying safe, then you are a super human. The only survival tip that should be on anyone's mind at this point is staying safe.

Good for you if you still have access to wifi/Internet and power supply to trade online which I doubt will be available.  Otherwise,  hodl your coins till everything normalises.

During wars, civilians are moved to refugee camps. The government,  NGOs and even government of other countries offer paliatives to alleviate the hardship faced during that period.  At this point, there are no bosses. Struggle to stay alive, Obey the rules at the camp. No one likes war, but when it happens we should try to protect ourselves.
665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The difference between bitcoin and cryptocurrency. on: October 15, 2023, 08:40:28 AM
I've come to realise that many people still don't understand that there are other cryptocurrencies apart from the bitcoin, yes the bitcoin is considered a cryptocurrency but they're two things altogether, bitcoin is the supreme digital currency and all digital currencies around the world are known as cryptocurrency, it is an form of currency be it digitally or virtually that uses cryptography to secure it's transactions, whereas bitcoin uses a decentralized ledger called the blockchain to maintain and secure a transparent record of transactions.

Let me bring it to layman's term for people to understand better, in a society there's a family and I'll use the family to represent cryptocurrency now, the family has a head and that is the father which I'll use to represent bitcoin, now inside that family there are other members like the mother, sister, brother  which forms the family, that's how their are other digital currencies that makes up the cryptocurrency as well, now you can say the father is a member and head  of the family but can't say the father and family are same thing, same way as saying bitcoin is the head and supreme cryptocurrency but can't say bitcoin and cryptocurrency is same thing, I hope these illustrations will help you understand my explanations better, also there other cryptocurrencies like etherium, bnb, cardano, polkadot etc.

Apart from being the first digital currency to be introduced,  bitcoin offers a whole lot of benefits compared to other coins
(alt coins). Bitcoin supersedes other coins here:
  • a means of payment because it is highly divisible
  • Decentralization
  • Anonymity
  • Store of value
  • Low transaction costs
  • Faster processing speed etc.

Other coins are springing up as the day passes by. The already existing coins are improving and advancing technologically.  Trying hard to match up with bitcoin or even overpower it.  Considering this level of competition between bitcoin and altcoins, the line between these two is becoming thin. This is surely a good sign of cryptocurrency dominance or adoption.
666  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How long to learn trading? on: October 15, 2023, 12:19:37 AM
You said it right; it seems that the theory is different from the actual, if that's what you mean. Because of my experience, the lesson is easy, but applying what has been studied is the difficult part, and it cannot be easily understood.

That's why those who have experience in actual trade are better able to understand compared to those who are just studying trading.
Then 2 years passed before I had a deep understanding of reading the trading chart, or s graph, to be honest, because it is not easy to understand based on what I have been through here.
Basically all work is not easy, because everyone needs to learn slowly and keep doing it so that we can get used to what we do so that things that at first seem so difficult become easier due to the habit of doing them. That's why I don't think that trading is an easy job, because there are probably a lot of people who have the capital to trade. But not all of them can read trading charts correctly so some people still have to deepen this knowledge in order to get luck when trading, because cash alone will not be enough to make a profit if there is still very little knowledge about trading.
I never believe in luck.
Trading is not an easy thing to do because there is a lot of learning that has to be done beforehand and it takes a long process or time for us to learn, but that doesn't mean this is something that can't be done by everyone because basically trading is for people who want to learn.

In my opinion, time is uncertain because people's capacity and learning will be different so there are some things that can be done quickly or vice versa, but what is certain is that if the person is willing to learn then I am sure they will be able to trade well and correctly, and this must be underlined. is that profit and loss are normal and normal things that happen, no matter how good a person is at trading, they will definitely experience these two things.
If we ask everyone here personally  how long it took them to learn trading? Some will say in a week,  some few weeks or even month(s) and year(s). This shows that there is no universal range or period for one to master the art of trading. It solely depends on what one intends to achieve. After learning the basics, you do a continuous learning to improve your skills. Learning never ends. Technology is advancing almost every day,  so one must learn to catch up with new trends and improve their portfolio.
The bottom line is, if you're ready and open to learning,  it shouldn't take you long to master few skills that will help you while trading.
667  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Advice when you are going a bit far in gaming and betting on: October 14, 2023, 07:35:20 PM
This is just the basics, but anyone should be aware of it:

Budget: set it BEFORE you start gambling and stick to it.
Have a break from time to time, it is important to let your brain stop and consider.
Avoid drugs / drink as much as possible, they will make you loose some control innevitably.
Seek help if you feel you are no longer in control. Make a phone call to a friend or go out and speak with someone.

Anything else anyone can think of? Like... read this post before gambling? Tongue
In as much as gambling is concerned the chances of wining and losing from the gambling are equal but the most important is to have control on gambling habits, just like you said every gamblers should have a certain amount budgeted for every week on gambling and avoid over gambling.
True, after a gambler wins I think he should take a break because sometimes a winning gambler loses all his money because he has no goals or he doesn't follow any rules and regulation. Gambler must set a goal in gambling otherwise he can lose all of their bankroll at one time even if he wins more. Gambling can be kept under control if a gambler can keep a regular budget in gambling. When a gambler can manage a regular budget, he will not panic to win at gambling. He does not have to ask anyone for a loan to manage his finances. When a gambler can control himself he can gamble free from gambling addiction. Gambling on a limited scale makes it possible to maintain everything nicely.

Most gamblers do not have break time. Gambling is their source of income.  One win is a motivation to gamble more. I've seen quite a good number of people in my area who depend sole on gambling.  They literally gamble everyday. Even if it means borrowing to gamble (which is a bit too far) , they are willing to. There is absolutely no budget for gambling. Persistent losses does not deter them from gambling.
Gambling when taken too far can ruin one's life. That's why I always say, "get a life first before gambling ". Get a normal job, get a hobby then gamble for the sake of entertainment. You do not need to break your piggy bank just to gamble. Get a life first before you lose yourself while gambling.
668  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gender in Gambling [differences between Women and Men in Gambling] on: October 14, 2023, 07:09:09 PM

Im with this, on the time that we are on our gambling session then we dont really care whether we are against or in table with neither other men or some women which it isnt really that our concern
in regarding on this kind of moment because you would really be solely be focusing on the game and how you would really be making out some good decision towards your gambling session.
I dont know on why there are really some people who are really that too mindful about gender or in between men and women in regarding on dealing up with things which we know that
gambling is really that for everyone. There's no such thing about being having the limit on what gender could be able to play or not which its free for everyone.

It do really just turned out that there are really people who are really that love to make some issues or talks about those women who do get involved with gambling.
Yes, its unusual but doesnt mean that they are prohibited on going into these premises on the time that they would be deciding on having some entertainment for themselves.
Nowadays it doesnt matter what gender you do have because it is really that always free for everyone for you to play as long you do have the money then thats what really counts.

You are right, there are people who keeps minding others' business and they love talking about it, and just like what you said women gambler is already existing and it's just to those who translate what they are seeing but in the point where equality is already practice then there's nothing that they should talk or discuss, it's freedom that can also be entertained by both genders. You can see both men and women mostly inside the offshore casino enjoying together if the government allows this kind of entertainment and that's it.
It's not all countries where women are permitted to gamble or do something that such thing is viewed as manly. Again, in restricted countries, we can't expect women to display their betting lifestyle, even though some will still be gambling, but will have to be secretive about it and will only use those accounts that can't be traced to them, and thankfully, there is crypto and the option of VPN. The downside there is that such restriction would have dissuaded a lot from gambling and many will not know about it till they grow.

Even without these restrictions,  many women still won't gamble.  The percentage of women who gamble will still be low. Gambling is a risky adventure and a good percentage of women are risk adverse. They are so sensitive to financial losses which is not healthy for any gambler. I do not see women as better gamblers,  considering their emotional attachments to bets if they eventually lose

The few women who manage to gamble are stereotyped.  I know an aunt who gambles.  People's opinion about her have been negative and with the fact that she's yet to get married, it is assumed that no man would want to end up with a woman who gambles. All these negative opinions have chased lots of women away from active Gambling
669  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cross addictions is Just as Bad. on: October 13, 2023, 10:16:55 PM
Ever heard of cross addiction or suffered from it?
What do you think?
Hearing of the name for the first time, but I have always met people who practiced it, replacing one habit with another. Cross addiction can be good if the habit the person is using to replace the addiction is something good. For example replacing habit of smoking with eating apples or working out, or the habit of gambling with reading sports journals or news. Cross addiction can be bad when a habit that has the potential to be bad is what is being used as the cross or replacement.

From the context of the word i think it is basically when people exchange one habit for another. If the new habit is positive, it’s a win-win. But if it is something negative, like trading gambling for excessive online shopping, it's a problem.

It should be like  upgrading your habits. If the replacement habit is healthy or productive, it can help break the cycle of gambling addiction harmful, if not, it is just trading one issue for another. I hope those who go through this choose well.

Hearing about cross addiction for the first time and what came to my mind is "Cross addiction can be a healing process ". To quit an addiction,  first the addict has to realize he is actually addicted to a particular habit and realise too the possible consequences of such  a habit.
Now, for an addict to realise a particular habit is no longer worth it and is willing to QUIT but adopt a new habit,  it shows that it is actually possible for that particular addict to quit his addictions completely.
It will even make a whole lot of sense if his new addiction is a good one or one with lesser consequences just as in the case of the 'friend ' OP stated. All he will be needing at that point is professional help.

We will only condemn cross addiction if the addict is addicted to two or more habits at a time. Or he upgrades from a fair habit to another worst than the former. If this is the case, then it is worst than addiction itself.
670  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Relying on gamble wins is dangerous to mental health on: October 13, 2023, 08:48:10 PM
I met a friend who used about $1 to play gamble to win about $2500 in a game of different matches, all the early games went well but the last game cut which made him loose the game.  This lose made him to be sick for 3 days, the reason for his reaction was not because of the money he used to bet but he felt so bad because he has already put all his hope on the money he would have won.

People needs not to put all their hope in games they are not sure of winning, because relying on it can be very dangerous to the mental health. Play gamble and remove your mind from the money that will be gained till it is achieved.

Three days is quite a lot to cry over his loss. He must have made some plans ahead of the winning. I am forced to ask, is gambling your friend's only source of income? If yes, then he's got lots of issues. At least we will have a  tangible reason why he is so emotionally attached to the betting.

Gambling is not for the weak, it is a game of luck. This is why we must put our emotions aside while Gambling.  Having high expectations could lead to serious challenges when those expectations are not met. I have seen someone who used all he had to gamble with full confidence that he was going to win. He was so sure of winning because he had had a good record of winning in the past. When he lost the bet, he became depressed.  Till date, he is still trying to recover.

If Gambling is affecting your mental health,  then you have to pause and pay attention to your health first. Before going into gambling,  be sure you are ready for whatever result it brings.  If not sure, quit!
671  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever heard about financing a gambler? on: October 12, 2023, 06:36:26 PM
How will you feel if someone you know or just a friend of a friend walk up to you and ask you to finance them in gambling in exchange for a portion of their winnings? Does this even make any sense?

Because the only place this makes a bit sense is the skills base niche like forex trading or crypto trading, how can gambling/gambler be financed?

Have you heard of such before? What is the end result if you have?

Why would you trust anyone to gamble better than you can when it's all about luck?

Is anyone doing this on here?

Someone explained this to me, and I believe he is already a victim because to me it doesn't make sense, I believe he is been used because he lacks knowledge about gambling, do you think my judgment is wrong?

Is your friend addicted to gambling? A healthy gambler should set aside a limit or certain percentage of money he should gamble with.  Borrowing funds to gamble with is a no no. Gambling is purely base on luck, what happens to the friendship if he is not lucky?

I can only finance him only  if there is a collateral equivalent attached to the loan. If he loses, I have nothing to lose too.
672  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is regulation of cryptocurrency exchanges essential for mass adoption? on: October 12, 2023, 04:47:58 PM
The cryptocurrency industry is currently at a critical stage and the role of exchanges can either "Make or Marr" the growth of the space.

Since 2009 till date, the industry has encountered a mouth watering growth with many institutional adoption of which Honda Motors is the latest to announce purchase of their product via crypto. Let's not also forget Elon Musk also accept payment of crypto for his Tesla cars and other big institution around the world also accept crypto as means of payment to obtain their goods.

This shows the world and future of crypto look promising but one area of particular interest that could potentially hinder this growth seems to be compliance by crypto exchanges to be regulated which of course I personally deem important because of the past event of scam from exchanges, hacks and collapse of some CEX which left investors in shambles.

The leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance which is supposed to take the lead in regulatory compliance seems to be having troubles with many countries already due to one regulatory issues to another ranging from licensing, operating within the legal framework of the country and compliance to regulation in general which have caused their exit from countries like United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and others. Recently Bybit another top crypto exchange has also exited the UK market raising an eye brow about the readiness of this exchanges to extant laws that seek to protect the interest of users and investors.

If this turn of events towards rejecting to be regulated by countries persist, crypto might prolly fade away with time especially if some top exchanges are not operational in top countries like USA, UK, Canada, Japan and the rest.

What are your thoughts?

If regulating the cryptocurrency exchange will...
1. Guarantee the safety of our investments
2. Guarantee that people's investments can be recovered in event of winding up of a particular exchange or perceived scam.
3. Guarantee that people or investors can still carryout operations freely just like in DEX with no strict regulations.

Then, majority of the people will have confidence in cryptocurrency and will be willing to adopt it. Countries too will adopt it since they can now control the system  .
673  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is politics really necessary? on: October 12, 2023, 01:30:55 AM
Politics has become a business in some number of countries i know. Where people from younger to older age are all affected. They are doing politics to gain their power. In all these countries murders, fights, thefts, robberies have increased because they are doing these bad activities using political power.

Disadvantages of politics:
1. The number of your enemies will increase
2. It will be a waste of money.
3. Your time will be wasted.
4. You may have the possibility of death.
Your evaluation of politics is one sided.  Politics cannot be entirely bad as you made it seem.  Have you considered the fact that politics gave a lot of us a voice? How else are we to oppose a bad government if not under the umbrella of politics? Most political tussles are healthy because it puts consciousness in the minds of the ruling party.

Political apathy is at the minimum because of political activities. Participating in politics gives the citizens a sense of responsibility.  Yea, the responsibility of being part of a decision making process.   Politics has been abused, we know.  Especially in African countries where all that that OP stated above is the obvious case. This doesn't give us a reason to scrap politics.  Remove politics and it's activities from governance and see the damage that will be done.

675  Economy / Economics / Re: The future of Farming. on: October 11, 2023, 12:28:35 PM
Land is becoming lesser and not very available for agriculture as before, There is a lot of Urbanization going on and many land space are being built on to carter for the increasing number of persons. There will be lesser organic foods available for consumption as the worlds population increase and farming space reduces. Because of this, there now has to be an improvement in farming methods and I personally consider vertical Farming to be the future of organic food farming.

In vertical farming, Plants are grown in stacked layers under controlled conditions like green house farming.
In vertical farming,
Quote
Ensures Consistent Crop Production
One of the biggest benefits of vertical arming lies in the fact that it is extremely reliable. That means, when you opt for vertical farming, you can be assured of getting consistent crop production throughout the year. This is further made possible because vertical farming doesn’t usually rely on the weather, allowing you to cultivate crops without having to get worked up about adverse weather conditions.
Uses Space Optimally
Reduces Usage of Water
One of the biggest perks of vertical farming lies in the fact that it follows a Hydroponic growing process whereby only 10% of the water is used. This mode of farming also uses fewer fertilizers and nutrients when compared to conventional methods. Since the water is completely clean even after usage, it can be duly reused thereby reducing the total cost and cutting down on waste.
Cuts Down on Transport Cost
You can always choose to grow crops in an area where your customer lives thereby reducing transportation costs, carbon dioxide emissions, and the constant need for refrigerating your produce. At the end of the day, this not only contributes to the freshness of your products but also makes them incredibly profitable.
Doesn’t Involve Chemicals or Pesticides
When you grow food on a vertical farm, you have the chance of completely cutting down on the need to invest in pesticides. That is because your farming is practiced in a controlled environment that prohibits the entry of pests.
Limits Occupational Hazards
With indoor farming in place, no farmer is exposed to the hazards associated with using heavy farming gear. They are also well-protected from a range of ailments like malaria, issues from harmful chemicals, and the likes of it.Since this mode of farming does not affect trees and animals around inland zones, it is also an excellent way to promote biodiversity.
Larger Produce
Probably the biggest benefit of vertical farming is the fact that it helps produce more crops in general. As we already know, this mode of farming enables cultivars to produce crops consistently in a small area. Interestingly, it also boosts the amount of produce.
What do you think about Vertical Farming, do you agree that it is the future of farming really?

https://www.conserve-energy-future.com/advantages-disadvantages-vertical-farming.php

You are actually right.  With vertical farming,  the future of farming/agriculture is secured. But this is not the case in my country.

In my country country,  there are lands, especially in rural areas but the problem is the agricultural sector have been neglected.  The youths who are major components of the future have diverted their attention to the oil sector and other white collar jobs.

With the fertile lands in my country,  we still import farm products we can cultivate and grow locally.  The future of farming in my country is at stake. Vertical farming is a good innovation in agriculture but how many people are passionate about farming?
676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What encouraged your continuity in Bitcoin investment and Bitcointalk forum? on: October 11, 2023, 11:46:57 AM

Few years back, I heard about bitcoin and bitcointalk forum.  At first I wasn't too interested in bitcoin.  I never believed in digital currencies and possibilities of getting rewards while investing in bitcoin.  I managed to give it a try after seeing some convincing testimonies.
Here I am in the forum and the experience has been amazing.

At first,  flowing and getting engaged in conversations here in the forum were a bit challenging but I was determined to make something out of here. Learning was the aim and up till now, I have tried my best to be consistent. Now, the rewards is paying off and it is a huge motivation to continue.

I know its kind of heart breaking when your expectations are not met within a duration of time you've envisaged  and the whole situation will make you want to quit, know this...No one can achieve great things from being inconsistent. Keep pushing until you breakeven.

The forum is a great place to learn. I have learnt lots of things from here which to some extent has helped me in my everyday life.  I don't regret giving bitcoin a try.
677  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Importance of NYSC sheme on: October 10, 2023, 10:10:53 PM
The NYSC scheme has been in existence for years in Nigeria. And has really groomed quite a number the Nigerian youth making them to really discover the essence of service to humanity
Personally I think the scheme in it's goal have been able to unite people of different ethnicity and believe system  and in a little way it has kept peace amongst people of different backgrounds and religions.
My concern has been drawn lately to what could b the economic importance or benefits of the NYSC sheme to the economy of our dear country Nigeria .
The federal government though have treatend several times to scrab the scheme have not been able to do so my question is if the scheme is scrabed, is there any part of the economy that will collapse or suffer, brings me to think what the reason is why the federal government have not been able to scrab the scheme .
Mind you am not  of the oppinion that the scheme be scrabed but am only concerned about what benefits has it been to the country's economy

The NYSC scheme is now obsolete. We were told the scheme will Foster peace and unity in the country. The aim of the programme has been achieved,  why is it still there?  Even the NYSC officials have compromised the whole process. The insecurity in the country is a major thing to be concerned about.  The government is only putting the live and future of Nigerian youths at risk. Especially those posted to States very far from their place of residence.

On one hand too, the scheme has helped with connections as youths get to meet people from all walks of life, but then lots of youth have lost opportunities because they have to compulsorily serve the country for a whole year.  Instead of scrapping the scheme (because a lot of people will lose their job if the scheme is scrapped), NYSC should be made optional.
678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Precious Metals - the final verdict is in. on: October 10, 2023, 05:20:06 PM
I've been doing a bit of research on this debate and come to a conclusion about which one is better and why.

if it was possible to just buy gold at spot price and sell it at spot price then maybe gold would be a viable way to make money but in the real world, you don't buy some 1 ounce gold coin at spot price. You pay what they call a "premium", a ripoff factor if you will. Apparently some gold coins have a very high premium like if you buy from the US Mint. They could be as high as 50% premium. And when you turn around to sell it to your local coin shop you'll be lucky to get spot price. So just to break even you need gold to go up at least 50% in that scenario.

Of course not every 1 ounce gold coin has such a high premium but they all have premiums. You might pay a 5% premium at your local coin shop. For a $2000 ounce of gold, that is $100 fee. And then when you go and sell maybe another $100 fee.

you're not making money with gold. the only people doing that are the ones buying and selling it at the coin shop.

Gold is not going to make someone rich. How many people have you ever seen that say "investing in gold made me rich"? None!

I see you are comparing bitcoin to precious metals base on their individual values. Both bitcoin and precious metals like gold are stores of value. Infact gold has over the decades proven to be a very good store of value. Even with the fact that bitcoin is highly volatile I will choose bitcoin over precious metals any day, anytime. Bitcoin is a multipurpose coin. While it stores your wealth,  you can still use a portion of it to buy candy from the grocery shop. This is one thing we cannot do with precious metals because bitcoin is highly divisible compared to precious metals.

Coups in Africa are usually for selfish reasons.  No Successful coup has benefited the common man. There is no guarantee right now that the new government will do better. The citizens are already enduring the harsh economy of the the state. Restricting some of their fundamental rights (which is very common in a military regime) is another burden altogether. No one is certain about what the new day brings as the military head of state can issue a decree any moment to counter what the previous government had on ground.

Businesses cannot strive in such an environment.  Foreign investors and tourists will not find the country attractive for business or recreation. The whole political and economic environment is tensed up. No coup has worked in favour of Africa
I am not well-versed in the history of coups and in Africa but what I want to ask is would you rather have a country that is being run by "puppets" than by a nationalistic leader? I mean it's been pretty much established that the former President is heavily influenced by the French Government. No military takeover succeeded before as you said and maybe that's because they didn't get support from other countries. It could be different this time with the increasing presence of China.

They always make us believe that the new government will do better but at the end, they turn out to be like the former or even worse. How will things go well when there is no separation of power? There will be too much power vested in the hands of the military which is not healthy for any government. It will only be fair if the new government will do things constitutionally for the benefit of all.
Let's just keep our fingers crossed.  Who knows, this might be a turning point for Gabon and other African countries who have experienced coup.
680  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your view on abortion? on: October 10, 2023, 04:12:51 PM
Now, listen to me, this is the topic that I have seriously discussed many times in real life.
According to religions, abortion is a sin but life is farm from paradise.

1. If woman was raped and got pragnanted that way, it's definitely up to mother whether she wants to give a birth of do an abortion, no one can blame her because she was impregnated forcefully, without her will.
2. If Doctor tells couples that their child will have birth defect, then it's up to couple to decide whether they want to dedicate their life to that kid or do an abortion. Personally, I think that no one can blame mother for abortion in this case because child with birth defect usually makes life pure hell for parents and child also suffers from defect, some of them include pain, disabilities and etc.
3. If mother got pregnant accidently via one night stand and she doesn't want baby, then abortion is probably okay, probably, because child will suffer from growing up without loving parents and most likely she will be abused by a mother or stepfather. But this part is very debatable and I don't have fixed opinion about that. There are cases when mother doesn't want baby but grandparents take it as their responsibility to grow them, so, it's very debatable.

You just said my mind. Why bring a child into the world to suffer  when you know you are not capable financially,  morally and otherwise to raise a child? In as much as we know that most people abort their babies due to some selfish reasons,  abortion cannot be wrong in all cases. Sometimes it is necessary to abort when the life of the mother is at stake.

In some countries where abortion is illegal, people tend to drink all form of concoctions or visit quacks who know little or nothing about the abortion process. This can result in complications for the woman or even death. Most times, if the foetus is not terminated successfully,  it can can lead to some defects in the baby if the child is finally born.

In my view,  abortion should be legalised for special cases like you listed above. You don't force a rape victim to keep a child simply because abortion is a sin. Having a child should be a matter of personal decision. And consenting adults should as much as possible protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy. This will save you the stress of going through the abortion process.
