661  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SpaceX sold $373M worth Bitcoin, reason of current dump on: August 17, 2023, 10:28:51 PM
Have you see how dumping Bitcoin? If not you are missing red chart. Here is the reason why current dump happened.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/spacex-sold-bitcoin-acquired-2021-2022-report

You can see SpaceX sold $373M worth of Bitcoin. Elon is very harmful for Bitcoin as always. He always supports shitcoins that doesn't have any real value.

The article doesn't say when Musk sold his bitcoin. It only says that in the recent filing the company confirmed that they sold. The recent filing wasn't today! They had to sell then report it and then someone wrote an article about the report. Get it? This means that a drop from 31.8k to 30k was possibly them selling, but the crash below 28k wasn't.

I'd say these were liquidated longs that caused it. Maybe some Chinese investors were holding bitcoin and seeing a possible crash on Chinese stock market sold everything, including BTC. That caused a long liquidation cascade and here we are.

More cheap bitcoin! I'm fine wit that. Wasn't planning to do anything before the halving anyway.

662  Economy / Economics / Re: Bad economic situation makes bitcoins more difficult to keep. on: August 17, 2023, 07:12:49 PM
What you're complaining about is not really a problem with bitcoin but with any investment. It's hard to hold assets when you're running out of money for basic necessities.

That's why we call them investments, they're a way to multiply your capital, but you need to have capital to even think about investing, unless you want to take a loan or something and say YOLO.
If you had a gold bar, but lost your job and had to feed your family, you'd sell it and because of this simple reason poor people usually stay poor and get exploited by the rich.
663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Chase to control the market! on: August 17, 2023, 06:54:21 PM
Bitcoin was indirectly called a scammer currency but only to those who are blind with the reality about bitcoin,

Wrong. It was called that directly!

In 2017 Larry Fink called it an "index of money laundering"
In 2018 Nouriel Roubini called bitcoin "mother of all scams"
In 2019 Jamie Dimon called bitcoin "a fraud"
In 2021 Donald Trump said "bitcoin feels like a scam"

I'm not adding links, you can google it if you want.

Quote
the government will never gain the full access on it.

Wrong again. Government can print money and you are willing to sell your bitcoin for that money.
In theory they could buy as much bitcoin as there's on exchanges.

If they US could send 75 billion dollars to Ukraine, they could spend the same on bitcoin if they really wanted to.
What would happen if other governments also tried to get it at the same time?
664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC go above $30,000? on: August 17, 2023, 06:41:56 PM
Bitcoin's supply is still 21 million bitcoins, it doesn't decrease with each halving, to be precise, mining is becoming more and more difficult. You guys always emphasize the supply but forget to mention the demand of bitcoin. Supply is limited but demand does not increase, then the price will never increase, supply is not the only factor for bitcoin to increase in price if there is no demand. We should judge the value of bitcoin by looking at supply and demand, we shouldn't focus too much on the halving, what if the bitcoin price doesn't increase after the halving?

OK, so tell my why there shouldn't be a demand for bitcoin. It works pretty much like digital gold and is currently the best store of value out there, because it's the first and the only decentralized way to hold money. Every other thing is limited, requires a third party, or like gold is hard to carry around and sell. Bitcoin is simply the best and if you give people time, more and more will get to understand this.

Even if we ignore the above, bitcoin was trading at above $40k for almost a whole year in 2021. Why shouldn't it be like that in the future? You're looking at 30k right now but in reality going from 30 to 35 requires very low amount of money when compared to how much people put in stocks. A single billionaire investing in bitcoin could get us above 30k today and there's a lot of billionaires in the world.

What does it mean after the halving? Do you mean a month? A year? It's mathematically impossible for bitcoin to stay flat below 30k despite the halving. It either goes up to 40k or it dies and goes to 1k and eventually below, but for that the blockchain would have to fail somehow. As long as bitcoin works it's going up.
665  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What you will do? on: August 17, 2023, 06:29:59 PM
If anyone has experienced this, what did you do?

My way of playing is that I stay in the game for as long as it's fun and of course as long as I have money. When one of these two conditions aren't met I stop and take a break, which can be as long as a month, if needed.

Therefore I chose the first option in your poll. It's definitely the best thing to do when you feel your mindset changing. You aren't here to suffer after all, am I right?
Even if you feel like staying, take a short break, calm down and think if this is the right thing to do.
666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next Bitcoin Bull Run: Is It Tied to the Next Halving? on: August 16, 2023, 07:38:30 PM
Logic would tell me that there isn't much bitcoin left to mine, what about 2 million last time I checked. So as a supply side it's already there.  So I would expect a slightly muted response over other halving. Fomo leading to a false bull.

I will happily give my BTC and haircut at that time and take peoples money

We're almost at 19.5M, so only 1.5 left to go.

What is a false bull? A bull run is when the price keeps going up. It doesn't have to break the last ATH, or it can go over it by a bit. The importance of a bull run is that the price keeps going up, with every subsequent correction ending with a higher low. This is pretty much the whole history of bitcoin, where in 2018, after the bull run, the price went to 3k, but in the next bear market of 2022 we made it only to 15k. In the long run we are in a bull market!

Short-term, it's enough for the price to stay above 25k, bounce back and hit something higher than 32k for us to officially be in a bull run. It's that simple!
667  Other / Politics & Society / Re: POLITICS AND LIES on: August 16, 2023, 06:50:34 PM
I don't know about your country but in my country, politicians buy over media empires to sell lies and propaganda to the public... I know this is not peculiar to my country. This may be the reason there is a growing distrust between the leaders and the followers.

It's the same here. The real name for it always used to be channel 1, but since it's only government propaganda they call it "government tv" in the free media.
Different governments use the same tactics because they learn from each other. If something works for one country it may work for another.

Quote
But is politics supposed to really be about lies? Why is the polity dominating by propaganda?

No, it's not. In most countries it's about buying votes and you can buy them by promising stuff to your voters, giving them freebies, lying to them, scaring them with war, or pandemic, or lack of money...
There's many ways to get votes. For instance, in Russia they like to simply print additional ballots and cheat the system the good old way.
668  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling discussion effect on: August 16, 2023, 06:28:12 PM
I don't think that just by discussing gambling there would be an issue in the mental state of a person. What OP said does not make any sense to me as unless a person feels gambling is okay or good for him no one would start gambling. Our discussion on this board is solely based on ideas, tricks, and the repercussions of gambling. I mean how will such discussion influence anyone to gamble when it is always said that it is a risky entertainment? OP we are here to get entertained and if you feel such discussions are getting into your mind then stop following this board. Please do not come up with such a post wherein you have no idea what we are discussing and then you start cursing us for our discussion.

OP is looking for an excuse, like any other addict.

It wasn't my fault, it was those:
-people advertising gambling sites
-signature campaigns
-people bragging about wins
-bitcointalk forum that allows people to talk about their gambling
-casinos that lure us in with promos
Add anything you like in here.

We can go on and on.

The reality is, if you're a strong-minded individual, you don't care. You do what you do, regardless of what someone writes in a thread.

669  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will you sell...next bull run? on: August 16, 2023, 06:16:00 PM
But we cant really deny that there would be those people who would really be altering out their emotions and decisions which would lead into selling their stash, its not bad to sell a portion of it but there would be those people who would really be selling on all-in specially if it do able to hit up that particular target or goal price that they've been longing for it to hit. So it would really vary but on the things you've said then i do definitely see the same and would really be holding Bitcoin no matter what, there might be some exemptions or cases on slicing up those coins to be converted but not really totally selling it all.

Its true that it did really give out that kind of confidence and independence in speaking about your own money which its never been ideal nor worth to be in fiat form. Somewhat there would be always those people
who do like to play safe or something that would be minding about the risks. Well yeah, it is always been that present and you cant blame out other people on why they had made out such decision
because of those inputs or insights that they do have.

Are we really going to rely on possible actions of unknown random individuals? There will always be people willing to sell, but my idea of life is going against the current, not with it. For this reason when we were really deep in a bear market I was buying. Because of that when people tell me to sell, because I should take profits, I will not. I don't need to "take profits" my way of life is to live with bitcoin, not use it as a tool to get more fiat and be happy that I somehow cheated the system. I bet that people who were selling at $100 were in this mindset, thinking they're gods of trading because they made 100x.

Is playing it safe actually getting fiat, or maybe holding bitcoin and avoiding fiat money is? Think about it.
670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the Bitcoin community be concerned about BlackRock? on: August 15, 2023, 06:36:41 PM
I don't worry myself with things I cannot change. An ETF would eventually get accepted, be it in a year, or 10 years.

Also, we have a futures ETF, which is pretty much similar to a casino where you don't own any asset but bet on whether this asset goes up or down. Why not have the real thing where a fund holds your coins for you? Sure, it's not what bitcoin stands for, but if someone is too scared to hold it themselves, but at the same time wants to have it, just let him.

As far as Blackrock discussion goes, better them than a much smaller fund. If they have it there's a lower chance they'll go bust and/or scam people.
671  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin ETF trivia continues, applications getting reviewed - Funds will drive on: August 15, 2023, 06:19:56 PM
There's a large backlog of ETF applications to process, so the earliest the mini-hype over ETFs can start is after a couple of months. And also the Bitcoin ETF application reviewer is none other than the SEC (which historically has an acute dislike of these kind of financial products) who is now under pressure to approve at least some of them. So don't hold your breath that the price will take off anytime soon.

This is only if you assume that there cannot be a hype before Blackrock ETF is accepted. Also, it's not like that ETF is going to start trading right away and it's not like Blackrock Starts buying the moment it gets the green light from the SEC.

So, to address the first problem, we had plenty of bull runs without any ETF. We were at $68k without an ETF, so we don't have to wait and hope that an ETF will take us back up because eventually, with or without it, we will go up. It's also important to note that there's an ETF in Canada and now we have also one in Europe, but the price is actually lower than it was a month ago.
672  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will you sell...next bull run? on: August 14, 2023, 07:43:50 PM
The time to sell is when you absolutely must.

The amount to sell is the absolute minimum.

I love it, but let me elaborate, for the people who don't know why they should follow your advice.
There's literally no better way to store your money than in bitcoin.

Someone might think we're all here to sell, but it isn't true. We are here to save up because no other thing in the world allows us to do so. All properties generate cost. All fiat currencies are destroyed by central banks that print like crazy and blame inflation on global warming and war in Ukraine (just watch Powell in Congress). Gold is hard to store, hard to keep safe, paper gold doesn't count as it's not the real thing.
If you have a few million in savings, you're fucked and you are going to be fucked by governments and banks until you find a way to cut them from your money. That's what bitcoin offers you.

The best answer should be never. I will spend some on the things I need along the way, but I will always remain a bitcoiner, even if it goes to a million dollars.
673  Other / Politics & Society / Re: World Bank halts new loans over anti-LGBTQ law. Right decision or hypocrisy? on: August 13, 2023, 07:18:40 PM
This World Bank is just an instrument of abuse that takes advantage of countries that need a money injection. These countries think that it's going to be a normal loan, where both parties decide on the amount and interest and it's done, but that's not how the World Bank operates. It wants to be involved in internal politics, in lawmaking. It wants to decide on the course of action the country takes.

It's like you had a lease on your car, but the company would call you and tell you if you can or cannot drive today, what gas station you can use, what tire manufacturer you're supposed to choose...

I hope more countries do like El Salvador and show these people their middle finger.
674  Other / Archival / Re: [A Bit of History] The most generous airdrop in the crypto history on: August 11, 2023, 06:51:50 PM
It's a great example, definitely a great airdrop, but how many people were aware of bitcoin in 2009?
Yes, people were given 25 bitcoin, but that was probably worth less than $25. You could literally skip a meal and get that. If you knew about bitcoin when it was sub $1 it was a strike of luck, like winning the lottery. All you had to do is get some from a faucet or ask someone to send it to you and forget about it. 10 years later you're a millionaire Cheesy

I'd say that one of the best if not the best widely available airdrop was BCH.
Imagine that you were in bitcoin in 2010, 2011, or 2021, when you could buy 1 bitcoin for less than $5, so spending $500 would give you over 100 bitcoin.
In 2018 that would give you 100 BCH for free that you'd be able to sell for $1k a piece, earning 100k for literally nothing, as a reward for holding your bitcoin.
675  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anonymity is no longer a benefit of gambling with cryptocurrency. on: August 11, 2023, 06:38:37 PM
That's basically the logic behind the implementation of KYC protocols, to deter money launderers, scammers, and every form of malicious actors from using the casino as a way for them to store their ill-gotten funds without getting caught. Virtually everywhere in the cryptocurrency world you can keep your money without getting caught if you're a scammer, but if you want to use it in real life you'd have to run it through an exchange, or convert it to fiat through online casinos, good thing that most of them do these since at the end of the day it stops these people from being able to get a hold of their funds outright. And while it's a flawed system that needs some form of improvement to make sure that it doesn't inconvenience anyone but those that need to be inconvenienced, it's a much needed one.

It's bullshit just as much as statements that CBDCs are going to benefit society because they're completely transparent, that your money is safe in the bank, that inflation should not worry you because it's normal, that money printing is normal, and of course, last but not least, that bitcoin is bad for the environment.

Do you really believe that the reason for KYC is to stop money launderers? How many money launderers are there really in a country? How many of them launder millions of dollars a year? I'd say not many. Why do all people have to lose anonymity because of these few people? Why do we, and by we I mean people like you, because I don't, support collective responsibility? Collective responsibility is a scam and a way for governments to abuse the public.
676  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is Stake.com allowed to lock account with $6,000 untill I lose it all? on: August 11, 2023, 06:09:48 PM
And it happens sometimes when a platform doesn't accept the documents of a player and asks for reiterations and it's a normal thing, a player needs to reconsider their submitted documents, check for errors and mistakes, and then resubmit them again or simply submit another document for it.
You are way too naive. Do you really think that's the only reason why casinos do this sort of stuff? It's not that simple. They use these tactics to make the player use up his/her funds in order to avoid paying them later.

This particular tactic works quite often since many gamblers are impatient leading to them gambling away their funds and getting screwed in the process.

I've read many stories of this being done.

A gambler is not asked to do KYC for months, but when he decides to withdraw a large sum all at once he gets locked and asked for documents. Then the casino takes a long time to process it saying stupid things that they need documents to be in English because they can't read this or that language, or that they need the document to be not older than 1 month, although player's account is much older than that. Then they don't want to get digital versions of documents, including that proof of funds, that has to be in a written and stamped form, in English Cheesy

They do it all to delay things as long as they can, hoping the client will give up and leave them the money, or starts gambling again and loses everything.

OP, you should have asked us earlier. It's better to wait and document every conversation with the support. If you're sending them everything and they are still delaying withdrawal, you're being scammed, but if you gamble and lose everything before your account is unlocked it's your fault.
677  Economy / Economics / Re: New Research found Work from home workers to be less productive on: August 11, 2023, 05:50:32 PM
I know something about that since I have a little kid at home and my wife takes care of her. When I work from home they treat me like I'm still there to help.

I used to work downstairs but it was unbearable. For instance my wife would ask me things, talk to me, share thoughts, treat me like I was there watching TV, not working and focusing on my task. I moved upstairs, but it's still the same, just that she screams to me from downstairs asking me if I can come down because of whatever, like there's a spider, or the cart brought in a lizard, or a million other things of similar importance.
678  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping your gambling habit a secret. on: August 10, 2023, 02:24:30 PM
But why continue in what you're not proud of by keeping it secret cause maybe you're worried about what people may say, how their thoughts about your person might change. Or how you might loose ties with someone you hold dear to. And many other reasons that follows.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

Why continue doing what you're not proud of? The answer is easy. Addiction, hope of getting money, bad financial situation, stress relief... For many people this is an activity that allows them to let off some steam, like sport. At the same time they know their family is against it, so they don't even want to start an argument with them and prefer to keep secrets.

You could ask this question to any outlaw. Why do you keep stealing if you're not proud of it? Why do you keep it a secret? They'll tell you the same thing. They chose this life.
They don't want to be known as a gambler, an alcoholic, a thief... It's all the same to be honest. All of these things have negative connotations in society.
679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy e-sim with bitcoin on: August 10, 2023, 02:11:09 PM
Cool, but your phone has to be eSIM compatible, and unfortunately most cheap smartphones are not.  If you click on "compatible devices" you will mostly see iPhones, newest Samsung phones and Google pixels.
A time is coming that almost all phones will be able to use e-sim, or at least the mid range phones.

Hopefully it's soon, because I've checked the list and at this point it's only the newest edition. I have a 2 year old phone and it's not on the list and the few ones that I've checked cost at least $500.
My target is usually below that because I buy a phone for everyday use outside, which means that it can fall to the ground, get scratched and all that.

If they can add this option to your average $300 phone, I might be interested, especially since I've used Bitrefill a few times and never had any issues with them.
680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the way to Prosperity for a Determined Dreamer on: August 10, 2023, 01:19:48 PM
I am trying to collect money to invest in Bitcoin for this I have decided to do agricultural work on other people's land and dreaming of investing some of the hard earned money in Bitcoin regularly. My money is small so I am trying to hold bitcoin for long term so that I can fulfill my dream.

I firmly believe that there is a possibility of achieving a large amount of money in the future. My teacher advises me to hold my investments on bitcoin for longer period ‍so that i can achieve the greatest success in my life.
One thing I was trying to understand is how the poor that basically operate a system of from hand to mouth for a means of survival would have a good enough amount to invest in bitcoin and hodl for a long term. Good enough you’ve devised a means and seems willing to go through the stress of not having yo enjoy your immediate earnings in hopes of better tomorrow. I do hope that works for you, still

I feel you’re putting a whole lot of expectations on the innovation and I hope you understand that it takes a lot of time for this sort of expectation to come through.

Welcome to the forum and hope you do well here.

OP's story is probably fake as there were no responses in this thread. It's just a story meant to earn merit, a post and forget kind of thread.
One one hand the guy has no money for basic needs, on the other he has money to invest in bitcoin. That's a very rare case.

Another question I'd like to ask OP is:
If you had to cancel studies due to lack of money and came to own some in the coming months, would you invest it in bitcoin or go back to school?
Unfortunately, he won't come to answer as he hasn't posted anything for weeks.
