701  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 60gh/s (scminer) running below35???? on: August 31, 2014, 09:32:35 AM
My first single had some dead units on it and so it was under-performing.  If you do a query inside BFGMiner it will show you each individual unit and you can tell if some are offline or malfunctioning.
702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S3 PSU question on: August 31, 2014, 09:16:28 AM
Tacens Valeo V Power Supply 900W 80 Plus Silver Modular damaged with two s3

Thats because its silver grade.

Please stop giving incorrect information to new people.  That makes 2+ people who are now incorrect (or stupid).

The +, 80+, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum ratings on PSUs are somewhat arbitrary and maufacturers fudge (make up) their ratings.  A Seasonic Bronze (which is lower than Silver) that puts out 800W could easily handle 2 S3s.  If it was an 850 it could handle both overclock. A Seasonic Silver 850W would be fine http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151083

What matters is the manufacturer of the PSU.  Seasonic is like the Mercedes Benz of PSUs. The rating just tells you roughly what to expect from the AC/DC conversion efficiency.
703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer L1 - Speculation... on: August 31, 2014, 09:07:43 AM
Nice, they are coming out with scrypt asic, that means litecoin difficulty going sky rocket.

It will only rocket if people think they can get a lot more LTC/Doge or convert LTC/Doge to BTC for cheaper than the price of mining BTC.  But since everybody buying can do the math if everybody buys it nobody wins except Bitmain.  A game of chicken...

LTC went sub $5 again just now.
704  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am out of the mining game :( on: August 31, 2014, 08:58:53 AM
As a BA customer that has actually received their order, I can tell you that the products are technically very good...though you probably wont get ROI with the current market.
However, they seem intent in sharing a cesspit with BFL, sharing similar qualities in customer relations...maybe they went to the same school ;(

BFL walks the fine line between scam and fraud. They won't outright not ship you a miner since you could always win that in court, they will just mine on it until it's useless and then ship it to you so they don't have to offer a refund because they never "promised" a delivery by a certain date.

Gonna do a couple rounds on the bag... got me worked up now.
705  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New to cryptos - looking for opinions on lifetime cloud vouchers on: August 31, 2014, 08:33:57 AM
In the world of crypto there is pretty much one name to the layman - Bitcoin.

To people on these forums, everybody know Bitcoin, Litecoin, Doge, XPM, Dark, Monero, etc.

To the scammy devs this looks like a feast for which newbie should I drain funds from today with a premine:
http://mapofcoins.com/

If you want to gamble bet on one of the lesser known coins.  This forum is called bitcointalk - I would bet mostly on bitcoin.

I would also avoid all mining and cloud mining - it does nothing other than transfer money from your bank account to the company - there's no option for profit really when you do the numbers.
706  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am out of the mining game :( on: August 31, 2014, 08:09:29 AM
Making $0.00 a day with my Black Arrow 2Th/s miner that was never delivered at the end of February and still hasn't been delivered.

Oh, I though they gave compensation?

No miner, no refund and no compensation.

In other words you got scammed.  I'm sorry for your loss.  I was considering BA for a little bit as people mentioned they initially had a good track record.  Guess they couldn't handle their hot potato when large sums of money came into play.
707  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Need some photos for my thesis - your assistance is appreciated on: August 31, 2014, 08:07:31 AM

I will be trying this out with an S1 I inherited yesterday Smiley
709  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Burger King Dares Obama To Stop It From Fleeing to Canada on: August 31, 2014, 05:38:21 AM
It's all just a big show.  BK is huffy puffy because some other company or industry is getting more tax breaks.  Apparently their lobbyists didn't get a good roll on their D20.

Ultimately the loser is the American tax payer.  The corporate tax rate is indeed too high in this country - good thing only the honest smaller companies pay it  Roll Eyes

Until the tax code is shredded and all the incentives, "loopholes" (also known as legal bribery) and accounting tricks are removed the middle class will suck an egg while the politicians and large corporations get away with legal embezzlement.

Will it change - probably not since the ones with the quill are being paid by the ones they're supposed to regulate.
710  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama: Media makes you think ‘world is falling apart’ on: August 31, 2014, 05:31:14 AM

President Obama on Friday said social media and the nightly news are partly to blame for the sense that “the world is falling apart.”

"I can see why a lot of folks are troubled," Obama told a group of donors gathered at a Democratic National Committee barbecue in Purchase, N.Y.

But the president said that current foreign policy crises across the world are not comparable to the challenges the U.S. faced during the Cold War.
Acknowledging "the barbarity" of Islamist militants and Russia "reasserting the notion that might means right," Obama, though, dismissed the notion that he was facing unprecedented challenges.

“The world’s always been messy ... we’re just noticing now in part because of social media,” he said, according to a White House pool report.

“If you watch the nightly news, it feels like the world is falling apart,” said Obama.

The president acknowledged that conflicts in the Middle East posed difficulties, “but it’s been challenging for quite a while,” he said.

“We will get through these challenging times just like we have in the past,” Obama added.

The president, looking to strike a reassuring tone, argued that American military superiority has never been greater and that the U.S. still held advantages over potential international rivals like China.

The event, held at the home of Robert Wolf, an occasional Obama golf partner and former president of UBS Investment Bank, was the second of three fundraisers the president was slated to attend on Friday. Tickets to the event began at $15,000 per couple, and around 250 supporters were in attendance.

Well it's good to see Obama is still with Michelle - he'll have somebody to go with to the Prom.  The POTUS thinks "we're" just now learning about the horrors outside out little corner of the world?

Didn't he watch Lord of the Rings - even there they knew a great evil was stirring in Mordor!

I guess when he's referring to "we're" he's talking about us hicks clinging to our guns and religion - oh wait he doesn't speak for that group.

I'm always happy to admit Americans are pretty stupid creatures (although probably still more intelligent than some others in the world judging from yourtube accidents), but the POTUS basically accusing America of being a Belieber   Shocked

Guess that's what happens when Katy Perry is your Chief of Staff.
711  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obamacare in review on: August 31, 2014, 05:22:59 AM
unmair127, answer me this - why do 87% of physicians on Sermo hate the ACA.  It's not because 87% are Republicans.  They're not tea party.  They're not bigots.  They're not fearful of a Muslim president.  They're not afraid of the illiminati.  It's not any of those silly things certain elements in the media wants people to think that those who oppose Pelosi/Reid believe.

It's because physicians are the one providing the healthcare.  We did the training.  Some of us do the billing.  Some have seen where it was and can see where it is going.

Fundamentally the ACA did nothing to reign in costs - instead it allowed insurers to swell up costs 200-500% in anticipation of painful patients - the one with full blown AIDS, the ones with type II diabetes who have sugars running in the 500s and have never had an A1C, the Hepatitis C patient who is finally tired of being yellow because now he can't stay awake.  When you add these people to the rolls and the lawsuits start pouring in then insurers will need to have massive legal teams to fight back the trial lawyers.

And if you didn't think trial lawyers won with the ACA passing, ask yourself why MICRA is suddenly coming under massive attack in CA.  It's Episode 5 - The John Edwards Strikes Back!

If you want to have an intelligent discussion stop playing pom pom cheerleader for Obama.  The man is clueless when it comes to healthcare - his only experience to healthcare was appointing his wife to that 2 year position in Chicago where she made a nice $450K a year as a hospital admin denying Medicaid patients from the hospital.  She's a beauracratic pig.  He got her the job.  Most private cardiologist don't make $450K and she sure as hell was never on-call.

If you want a frank discussion, point out the single most important element in the ACA that restructures the way healthcare is delivered.  I can't think of one.

If you want a blatant criticism - midlevels are becoming increasingly common as the sole provider in clinics and physicians are giving them the name of Noctors.  The government is pushing for people who are as skilled as physicians but as cheap as a basic RN (not a high RNP or skilled PA that does surgical assist).  Why did Congress not appropriate a single increase in primary care residencies in the last 10 years (yes, under Obama and Bush)?  Why did Congress not increase training options for something between a doc and NP - something with 2 years of training and 1.5 years of clinical training with low debt?

You can't just give everybody in America $1 million dollars and say "everybody gets a Lamborghini" - it doesn't work that way.  Roll Eyes
712  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 31, 2014, 03:58:33 AM
I have purchased a new S3 and Corsair CX600 psu.  I set everything up and when I connected the PCI-E connectors to the S3 the psu quit working.
I was able to reset it and tested it and it ran o.k. but as soon as I connected it to the S3 it stopped again. I do not get any lights on the miner.
I am unable to connect to to the web setup presumably because the S3 is not getting any power.  I will appreciate any help/suggestions.  Thanks.

The CX600M comes with only 2 PCI-E connectors, so that is all that were used.  It seems like the 600W model should be enough for 2 blades, but perhaps the suggestions that the unit is faulty are correct.  I will order a different model next week.

you may have a bad pcie and a good one .

you may have a half good antminer s3.  do you have the tools to take the shroud off the miner?

A phillips screwdriver is all you need.  you can plug in 1 pcie to 1 blade just make sure that the fan is plugged into that blade.
If the fan moves that pcie cord is good and that blade is good. unplug it and put the second pcie cord in the same blade if that works both pcie cords and that one blade is good.
Next test switch the fan plug to the other blade plug in 1 pcie cord see what happens. if it does not work the the second blade is bad. ou need to do this with the shroud off to be sure the fan is plugged into  the blade you used.

Your  suggestion to remove the shroud and test the pcie plugs was a good one.  What I quickly discovered is that I had the plugs backwards because the cutouts in the shroud made it appear that the connectors only fit one way.  I found the plug wire schematic in the troubleshooting section of Dogie's guide and with the shroud off it was clear how they were supposed to connect.  Everything is working now and I will finish the configuration in the morning.  Thanks to all for your help.

I'm amazed you were able to plug the end into the miner.  I'm pretty sure the pin moldings were made so the cable couldn't be plugged in upside down.  Then again I haven't tried that.  Usually there's a combination of a slanted hex and one of the corner pins on the 6 pin is a sharp 90 degree angle.
713  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S1 keeps burning out PSU on: August 31, 2014, 03:49:31 AM
It would help if you told us what power supplies you're using and what kind of ambient temps you are in.  Are you overclocking the S3?  What frequency?  What firmware are you running?  Are you on 120v or 240v?
714  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New 14nm miners??????? on: August 31, 2014, 03:20:19 AM
The only way BA is making 14nm ASICs is if they make 28nm stuff and cut it in 1/2 with a Ginsu knife.

Their track record speaks volumes.  Anybody jumping on that is just funding their shadiness.
715  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon4, Using A3222, 28nm ASIC on: August 31, 2014, 03:18:18 AM
Avalon said they wouldn't mine with their customer's hardware.
Avalon delayed customer shipments by 2-3 months so that they could mine on the customer's hardware at the customer's expense.
Avalon collected thousands of BTC for their chips which they claim sank with the Titanic in 1912 (or something just as incredulous)

Proof Avalon mined:

716  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Projecting Future Difficulty on: August 31, 2014, 03:15:02 AM
Despite the bad luck on 5 major pools over the past couple of days we're still looking at 15% increase.  The luck seems to be normal or positive today and it's going back to between 15-20% increase in 24 hours.
717  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Who would preorder for Dec 2014 at $0.99 GH/s on: August 31, 2014, 03:11:15 AM
Do they have a fancy graphical display?  That's what drew a lot of the fools who invested in Cex.io  Cheesy
718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Selling scrypt miners - Cheap on: August 31, 2014, 03:06:01 AM
I've asked mods to move this to marketplace/goods.

You should post where you're located since shipping cuts into profits on both sides.

If you are shipping you also need to offer or choose the escrow since you're new.

Good Luck.
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Monero Client .NET - A graphical account manager made for Windows on: August 31, 2014, 02:58:17 AM
Well I downloaded the whole chain again on a clean RC1 install on a new machine.  I imported the 38.1 wallet but it still shows 0 coins but under accountdata it has my wallet address correct.

My 38.1 GUI wallet crashes now even trying to send 10XMR with 0.1 fee so the coins are now stuck.

I'm at a loss for words.   Shocked Huh
720  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GHash.IO Statement Regarding 51% Threat on: August 30, 2014, 08:26:04 AM
The original paper proposes that if the majority of the nodes are honest nodes then the network will be safe from manipulation.  If the majority of the nodes are dishonest nodes, an attack is possible.

Don't know about the 39.99% perhaps gentlemen's agreement between Pool operators.

To be fair, I see this as a failing of the other pool operators versus a GHash issue.  Earn your piece of the pie, do marketing, drop your fees, increase rewards, have a lottery, pay 10 BTC to the finder of the block like Nakamoto suggested: "Either way, the user who submits the hit that solves the block should get an extra amount off the top, like 10 BTC"....this is meant to be a free market is it not?

IF you "vote with your CPU", clearly other Pool operators need to improve their campaigns to get more "CPU votes."

The problem in this case was clealy demonstrated to be mindless sheep mentality.  The same way intelligent people complain about the government inefficiencies but the sheep ruin everything.  Other pools have demonstrated to be better performing and yet people flock to something with 0% Fee and 2 extra coins because they think they make more all while bending over and dropping 2-4% orphan rate  Roll Eyes
