741  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL ASIC worth the risk for pre-order? on: December 07, 2012, 01:39:23 AM
back to the topic.  As you can see from my signature I am one of the faithful and believe BFL will deliver.  The main reason being is ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) are not some mystery piece of tech that has just emerged over the last couple of months to satisfy Bitcoin miners.  ASICs have been around for some time. When you hear of something being "implemented in hardware" they are most likely referring to an ASIC.  There are even ASICs used for cryptography that perform  sha256 already in existence.  What BFL is offering an enhancement to existing tech that is focused on Bitcoin mining.

So yes it is worth it and they will deliver.

Gosh gee whizz, a newbie thats barely been on the forums trusts BFL and knows what ASIC stand for.
Obviously if you know what the acronym stands for you know all the specific details of R&D -> Production and all the potential pitfalls along the way.

So, trust this guy - seems legit.
742  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL ASIC worth the risk for pre-order? on: December 06, 2012, 09:38:05 AM
I've at this point considered the same, mining with just one ASIC, like the jalapeņo might not be profitable anymore.  It might be like trying to mine now with just a basic quad core cpu or a low end nvidia card...  from what I've seen a lot of people plan on buying the higher end devices.

Pre Ordering Wink
743  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should BFL get a scammer tag? on: December 06, 2012, 09:30:49 AM
1) Highly experienced in their industry in general is what I would take that to mean.  I would assume they mean that they have engineers onboard who have designed ASICs for other projects before.  Obviously, they hadn't designed an ASIC for Bitcoin mining before.  No one had.
2) They've probably developed ASICs before, which are most certainly microprocessors.
3) You have no proof of them lying about this.
4) Ok, I agree, a lie, or at the very least, a half-truth.  They should have clarified this by stating "procuring and installing high-speed equipment".  However, I still put this statement in a much different pool than I would put them in if they said the same thing and they weren't actually buying any equipment to install.
5) You have no proof of them lying about this.

See how you have to bend over backwards to believe their claims. They're the one making claims that no one can verify.

And no, I wouldn't believe you, because you haven't given me good reason to believe you.  However, if you began to post verifiable indicators of your vast store of wealth, such as photos of you driving your Ferrari and pictures of your Bitcoin miners inside your mansion, I might believe you.

How did you know I just bought a Ferrari? I'm installing it in my garage right now.

https://i.imgur.com/dIlxd.jpg

creativex has another opportunity for me, so things are looking very bright for my retirement.
Right.  They have chosen not to allow some of their claims to be verified.  That is NOT the same as lying.  Again, I believe them because they have given me no reason not to believe them.  If they had a history of lying, then I wouldn't believe them.  Thus far, they have had a history of bad estimates and poor wording, but no broken promises or outright lies.  Because of their history, I expect their estimates to be off and I request clarification on anything important that isn't cut-and-dry, but I don't expect them to lie.

When you post a picture of you driving it (as well as some image verifying that the driver is actually you, perhaps by holding up a sign of your bitcointalk username), then I might start believing you.  Wink

This is called cherry picking, and it usually means they are hiding shitloads.
744  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should BFL get a scammer tag? on: December 05, 2012, 06:30:44 AM
Come on guys... if this was ANYONE else except for BFL they would have had scammer tags already!  The community has given them hundreds of thousands of their dollars, waited month upon month, and has not seen a word of honest discourse from them about the state of their products.

If you're waiting on something, why not tell us?  Why not tell us what it is?  Why not at least provide process details for your ASIC like Avalon?  Ridiculous.

BFL and Pirate, bitcointalk admins let pirates ponzi play out completely.
Shills abound, several of pirates fools/shills overlap with BFL's investors/shills heavily so it comes as no surprise.

No scammers tags are only for little fish on bitcointalk, big fish are welcome to bribe and buy their way out of any situation they can, if they cant THEN they get the scammers tag.
745  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC where are they? on: December 05, 2012, 06:19:24 AM
I don't have any pre order, so I shouldn't interfere but would there not be a point in telling others not to order anything from BFL or claiming that they'll never market a product, if you are sure you get one yourself so you will have a better chance of recouping your investment as less ASIC's are sold because of slander?

Excellent point Luno. I think the haters fall into two camps,

1. Those that didn't order early when they had the chance and are now kicking themselves.
2. As you said, those who did order and are trying to sow misinformation for their own gain.

This is the very same song Pirates investors were singing, good luck with that Smiley

747  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC where are they? on: December 05, 2012, 04:38:41 AM
I stopped giving a crap for a couple weeks but now I'm back and now BFL's website has actual pictures of the finished product.  That means they have some chips, are assembling and testing some, and are obviously close to shipping.

Yeah, only those chips you saw? Mock-ups. They don't have any chips at BFL, mostly because the chips don't even exist yet. Apparently the chips are going to be finished by next week, maybe, with luck. BFL doesn't know. They have no idea when their chips are going to be finished. But it could be next week. With luck. Who knows?

Filtering through the Inaba speak this is probably how it's gonna go:
 - Finally understanding how Asian fabs work, BFL raises their order from 20000 chips to 100000 to bump up their place in the production queue.
 - Fab decides they finally have time for that weirdo BFL company to do their miniscule run on the 11th. This is under provision no big orders from LG come in in the mean time because boy that Nexus 4 is selling like hotcakes. If that happens BFLs run is gonna be pushed back to "whenever".
 - Assuming the 11th happens and the run actually starts, you can add about 4-5 weeks for production of these things.
 - On 21st of December the world ends
 - In the middle of January the chips are finished. Inaba decides to hop in a plane and fly over to the fab to hand receive the chips. Turns out, all planes crashed during the end of the world. Instead the chips are shipped over to 'merica by boat.
 - Middle of March the chips finally arrive in what is now called the Independent State of California. Customs officials hold what they assume to be weapons grade military devices until the end of the war with Texas finally ends in a stalemate.
- 2015: ASICs arrive at BFL studios (a subsidiary of bAvalon International). No one knows what to do with them because all bitcoins were wiped out by the EMP pulse from Planet Rth'Nag'Ar.
- 2016: bAvalon strings the chips up on metal bars to produce a first-of-its-kind mathematics device they call The Abacus.

lmao, I gotta wipe spit and snot off my screen you made me laugh so hard.
748  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL ASIC worth the risk for pre-order? on: December 04, 2012, 06:05:58 AM
Wow. And I just stumbled upon a post from BFL_Nasser on the butterfly labs forum from yesterday:

Quote
Hi Everyone,

We've been very busy recently, unfortunately I couldn't catch up with the forums. There is a correction to be made: Chips are not and were not flawed. We decided to add certain clock buffers to improve noise-resistance and possibly increase frequency even further. The improve in noise resistance was our real goal (average frequency increase across a full wafer can be a bi-product). The decision was made to increase the near 100% chance of success even more. We'll keep you posted. If you had any questions, please let us know.

 Best Regards,
 Nasser

I don't know who "Nasser" is, but this indicates that the chip design is still being tweaked and tested *after* the expected release date. How can you have a projected shipment date before you have gotten test chip samples and finalized the design? This sounds like R&D to me. How long will it take to iterate through their testing? Another 2 weeks to get the next batch of chips; if there's another problem, how much longer will it be delayed?

Even if the next batch is perfect, they must be ordering in very small quantities until they are sure it is correct; this could be millions of dollars as stake. How many products is BFL promising to ship in their first wave?

It's hard for me to see how they could work through this and have products in customers' hands in less than 2 months. If I were BFL, I would not want to accept any pre-orders until I had a finalized chip design; why risk having people question your credibility when your product can speak for itself? Sitting on a pile of pre-order money is a dangerous thing.

How many people here would sit on thousands (millions?) of dollars in pre-orders and not misappropriate even a fraction of those funds? Look at what happens to pension funds, social security, etc. In my book, you don't want to expose yourself to temptation; there are many people who have started out legitimately and been trapped by the Sirens' call.

Nasser had to step in as CEO of BFL because Sonny was in breach of his bail.

oh and Inaba looooooooves da cock.

I just hope they didn't lost too much, to declare bankruptcy and forfeit everyone winning payments.
I notice they are doing all the little payments.

FFS, Would you just relax.

This is not the first time this happened.  Every transaction on SatoshiDICE that is a WIN eventually gets paid.    This is provable using the blockchain.

Your transaction confirmed.  It shows WIN.  You will get paid, just not right now apparently for whatever reason.

Incidentally, wagers that are double spends don't cost SatoshiDICE a thing, because even if they sent a payout for the WIN already the payout will not confirm either as it too will be a double spend.  And it is then no different from having never made a payout at all.

When these situations happen with SatoshiDICE, they can take a day or two to resolve.

There's nothing you can do but wait.

is this kind of thing resolved automatically with "blockchain magic" or does satoshidice have to manually correct these things ?
If the latter, it may explain the delays.

sounds like there is a potential ddos in there Sad

I need to study this stuff more, say I picked up a noisy wallet (1 million previous TX's) and spam
Code:
lessthan 1000	1dice5wwEZT2u6ESAdUGG6MHgCpbQqZiy 1.5259%	63.968x	1.900%	98.100%	0.0100	29.227

aiming to trigger some wins, in theory they would build a payout using my double spends and a large amount of their confirmed funds.
As I would be constantly double spending the same funds there is no cost to myself, but every time  they attempt to pay they are reusing only a small part of my double spend and also locking a large amount of the legitimate unpsent inputs in their wallet.

Its a bit concerning really as Id hate to see this instant style of gambling go away Sad

does the network keep broadcasting double spends or are they eventually detected and redirected to /dev/null ?
do bad nodes that keep misbehaving get ignored ?

so many questions, sorry Smiley

No games are in BTC, you must transfer to USD paying their service fee.
They are currently refusing to cash out my previously deposited funds unless I keep playing with my funds or accept a 5% charge.
Accusing me of "Our deposit and withdrawal system is reserved for players and is not to be used purely to move funds from one payment system to another. ".
Which is false, I played a few rounds on their site then went back to seals with clubs (I didnt like the requirement of converting BTC to EUR and back again.
They have offered me a Skrill cashout, but I am hesitant to use Skrill as it sets off all sorts of alarms on my bank account.

Official SwitchPoker.com representative here.
Since Switch Poker became the first real money poker site to add Bitcoin as a deposit option we have worked hard to ensure a smooth experience for all our users who choose to use Bitcoin payments. It pains us to see this type of misinformation published about our site.

Switch Poker never charges users to deposit or withdraw using only Bitcoins. The only time a withdrawal fee is applied is when a user deposits Skrill / Visa etc and then converts those funds to Bitcoins without any significant play. In these cases the user is attempting to use our system as a way to convert Euro to Bitcoin for free. As we have many costs related to accepting payments (Skrill charge % fees for receiving funds, as do Visa, Neteller etc) we cannot allow users to move funds from Euro to Bitcoin without any charge.

We are upfront about this -- a message similar to the one below is displayed to the user before they move any funds from Euro to Bitcoin.

Had mem deposited Bitcoins and then wished to withdraw Bitcoins then there would be no withdrawal fee.
But if mem deposits using Skrill and converts those funds to Bitcoins and attempts to withdraw them then a fee will apply.

All our games are currently in Euro and it is necessary to convert any Bitcoins to Euro to play. The conversion rate is based on the current exchange rate on the major Bitcoin exchanges and fluctuated. Users are shown the amount of BTC/EUR that they will receive before they accept the conversion. We never hide any costs from users.

We are open to adding Bitcoin only tables, which will mean people can deposit and play but Bitcoin with zero conversion fees. If anyone here would like to see pure Bitcoin tables available please let us know any way that you like

I can answer/address nearly every one of those questions/comments and I don't have any affiliation with BTCFPGA aside from being a customer, a customer btw that was undecided in Sept. Guess what tipped the scales? Grin

Yeah it's a freaking joke alright. Your company's shipping date was October. Can YOU read a calender? Your early pre-order customers should've been hashing by now, based on your reassurances that this wouldn't be handled in the inept and unprofessional way in which BFL's FPGA product launch was...yet here you are pointing fingers and blathering in a disturbingly unprofessional way as usual. Oh that's right, you speak for BFL, you just don't represent them ATM.

How's that fifth sixth week of November shipping schedule coming Josh?

Did I miss it ? am I to late for Iblahblah's rant ?  Tongue
Its beautiful to see him making snarky cryptic comments directed @ the competition for their delays at the top then throwing his little tantrum down the bottom while explaining his own delays.

If you could harness immature unprofessional rage into hashing power josh could 51% the network by himself.
