761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nobody learned anything from MT.Gox it seems. on: April 30, 2020, 02:45:11 PM
A centralized exchange beats the purpose of cryptocurrencies - We might as well trade stocks, it's really no different at this point. Cryptocurrencies was meant to be traded peer 2 peer (like on a DEX), not with a centralized entity inbetween.

That's just one way of thinking. You shouldn't think centralized exchange as an intermediary. Rather you should consider that you have already sent coins to the buyer the moment you deposit coins on centralized exchange. In P2P trade, one party has to trust other first. It is quite impossible to trade digitally at the same time, one has to go first. Similarly, in case of centralized exchange, you are going first by depositing your coins on exchange and you should withdraw your coins as soon as possible once trade is complete.

Not all coins could be traded on DEX so it's a bitter truth that you have to use resources like centralized exchanges in order to maintain high liquidity between crypto/fiat and crypto/crypto.
762  Economy / Economics / Re: Mining: Halving will destroy the half of us. on: April 30, 2020, 01:07:54 PM
The halving event is coming in a few weeks, rewards for mining will decrease to half specifically from 12.5 BTC to 6.25BTC. Small miners won't be able to contain a very much low block reward it will be lesser than what they are going to spend in mining. Huge mining entities can go on while the small ones will be forced to quit unless they expand their operation.

Poolin.com is one of the mining pools out there, its Vice President talked about it and gave his opinion, " Miners using old equipment will have to disconnect after halving"

The time has come for small miners isn't it?

What is your definition of small/huge?

It's all relative TBH. Bitcoin mining difficulty has been increasing over years. In initial days, high tech computers were enough. But now thousands of ASIC miners mining simultaneously are needed. And this rise wasn't immediate or associated with halvings. It was gradual with the popularity of bitcoin. So small miners as per my definition had left mining way before in 2015. Now few more will leave (most probably will change the coin they mining). Mining isn't a secure office job. It comes with risk and you have to upgrade yourself with time to achieve break-even plus profit else you have to leave, as simple as that. But the most important fact is that Bitcoin will become scarce and valuable and that's what matters the most.

Review

Graphics: Night Mode is beautiful. Regular Mode could have been a little better. Pure green casino texture is looking a little bland. May be some casino type design could be added to make it more appealing. The transparent background of chat box looks great in night mode but little off in regular mode. Increase the opacity of chat box's background in regular mode.

Game Play: Classy casino dealing style! I like it. However, I found this issue:

You can see that I highlighted two buttons above. On the right of red square, I have divided the area with blue arrow line and green arrow line. The button area lying within blue arrow range is non-clickable (the most probable reason is the graphic of card is making button non-clickable). Only button area lying in green arrow range is clickable.

Provably Fair: I have failed to verify the provably fair script. Help me with it. I read the process in FAQ section but things aren't clear. So this is what I understood so far:
New client seed and new server seed is used for every round. Server seed hash is shown to the player along with the option to manually set the client seed. Once I entered client seed, new cards are decided on the basis of client seed I entered along with server seed whose hash was shown to me. After bet, server seed hash changes to new one, client seed also changes but it is still modifiable to something else. Now my main question is, how can I see the server seed of previous round? This is what I see when I click one of the previous round:

Out of the data required to verify bet, I have Client Seed and Server Seed Hash. Now I want to know, from where can I get the server seed of previous round?

Sportsbet is hosting another 40 mBTC Freeroll tonight - not sure if anyone is going to join but I thought I would let you guys know. 60 registered Spammers already. Wink

I have already played previous two weeks of 'Play with Steve' series and gonna play tonight too. First week was really awful for me playing against the army of alts and inactive players. But in second week's touney, I adapted myself according to the situation and really enjoyed the tournament. I was among top 10 for quite some time before going all-in on QQ and lost the bet. However, now I know how to deal with alts as it is easily identifiable when someone is bluffing or when someone is genuinely playing. So tonight would be fun, especially if Steve sits on my table again. Cheesy

The rush for cash, however, may not have a substantially negative impact on bitcoin’s price because deflation would also boost the purchasing power of the cryptocurrency.
~~

I don't think that statement is really wrong, if you thin about the value of Bitcoin it is always based in it's fiat value like the USD thus in turn also making it's purchasing power bigger since it's dollar value have also increased in purchasing power. Bitcoin does not need to be directly used in terms of being a payment option for it to have an increased in purchasing power, as long as deflation exists and other payments has USD value in it they will also benefit in increase in purchasing power it is simple as that.

I never said statement is wrong. I am just saying that statement doesn't make any sense. All goods/things/securities/assets can be valued in terms of fiat money (in this case, USD). The value of each of these in terms of USD fluctuates at different rate at different times. One item may rise at higher rate than the other item but it doesn't mean that the purchasing power of first item has increased too. Not everything is capable of being used as a medium of exchange. Cryptocurrencies are usually viewed as securities/investment/asset rather than the currency. Even though price of let say, Bitcoin doesn't fall as much as the prices of general commodities, it doesn't mean I can directly spend Bitcoin to buy comparatively more goods and services. I still have to convert my Bitcoins into fiat to spend value. So in short, why not convert cryptocurrencies in fiat now? I will have more fiat money compared to the case where I convert my Bitcoin to fiat later. That's why I am saying that the statement that Bitcoin will keep up its PP even though its price fall shouldn't be taken as positive by crypto investors.
766  Economy / Gambling / Re: Minimum deposit in Bitcoin Casinos on: April 28, 2020, 03:27:47 PM

We know that sometime the fee for the transaction can go up to few bucks, so it doesn't make sense to allow deposit of 5 USD for example.
Also in real money casinos, the minimum is usually 20 ( USD, EUR, GBP )

Was looking for some information about the minimum deposit allowed in Bitcoin casinos

Thanks

It doesn't matter minimum amount in case of Bitcoin casino and I doubt most of Bitcoin casinos even have minimum deposit limit. You can send any amount to the Deposit Address because fees is exclusively calculated by most of the Bitcoin wallets.

Suppose you enter 3G8uPe3XKGhyQ2HGZfrmT7yJSxeQ6kJHK4 in address column and 0.0001 BTC in amount column while sending bitcoin from your wallet. Then your wallet will check if you got additional funds over and above 0.0001 BTC to cover bitcoin network fees. If yes, then it will create transaction with exact 0.0001 BTC output to 3G8uPe3XKGhyQ2HGZfrmT7yJSxeQ6kJHK4.

Casinos sometimes aren't able to track lower amount of deposits but they manually approve deposit in such cases if they haven't mentioned minimum deposit limit on site.

However, every casino site has minimum withdrawal limit and it is usually set at 0.001/0.002 BTC by most of the casinos since bitcoin network fees has to be bore by casino in case of withdrawal.
767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: April 28, 2020, 03:11:06 PM

This is really a high-quality article. You started it with the advantages of gold then shifting to the benefits of blockchain technology. Then perfectly explained why Digital Gold is the best option to invest in Gold securely and anonymously. If you don't have any problem then I would like to translate the part of your article and publish it in Indian Section.
😁 yea... No problem. You are free to. Feel free to tag me @ayobami99 so i can give my little upvote 👍 💪

Sure. I will tag you as well as mention link to your article in my post. Smiley

LoL! This is the first time I read someone talking about the purchasing power of cryptocurrency. How many people use cryptocurrencies as currency when compared to investment? 2 percent? 5 percent? The article in short discussing the scenario that I can buy 5 lollipops with 0.0001 BTC instead of 4 just because the fall in Bitcoin's price in terms of USD will be less than the rate of deflation in USD.

This doesn't make any sense. I don't know whom this article is trying to give sigh of relief but it is common phenomenon that people move towards safer investments (in terms of volatility) like Gold or keep money in fiat currency during pandemic. Bitcoin never proved itself in any crisis before so we can't simply predict how it gonna perform in coming days. It fell by approx 40% during the first wave of Corona and still trying to recover from that fall.

@efialtis

any chance of upping the starting stack in the next series? like 5k or something? it would be nice to be able to splash around a bit more in the early blind levels. i think it would make for some more interesting chip distributions.

anyone have thoughts on that?

I would support raising starting stack only if blinds levels time is reduced too. Else, 3K is sufficient. Tournament starts at 10:30PM at my place and goes for 3-3.5 hours easily. With 5K, I assume that tournament duration will raise to 4.5-5 hours. My brain stop functioning after 2AM Cheesy
770  Economy / Economics / Re: How RRR works!? on: April 27, 2020, 05:26:00 PM
~snip~
...

Perfect answer.

Would like to add two things:

Now, loans are constantly being paid off so withdrawals can be accommodated. However, if withdrawals are made too quickly, the bank can run out of money (because it is all tied up in loans) and collapse. One way that banks avoid running out of money is by borrowing excess reserves from other banks.
Most of the times banks don't face this situation because reserve is fixed by the central authority keeping in view the economic condition. This percentage is usually enough keeping in view that all depositors won't come to withdraw money at the same time and there is constant flow of new deposits. Developing countries usually have reserve requirement around 15-25% while developed/underdeveloped have lower requirement. However, banks may rarely face such issues some times hence they use financial instrument known as Call Money. Call Money is usually cleared by bank on overnight basis.

Second concept I would like to talk about is of 'Money Multiplier'. One can easily calculate how much money banks can create by simply using this formula:

m = 1/RRR

If RRR is 10% then banks can lend up to 10 times the amount they receive as deposits.

772  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Many cryptocurrencies — how important is that for you in casinos? on: April 27, 2020, 03:34:21 PM
Hi guys!

Still playing with bitcoins? Or have you switched to TRON or Ripple?
Anyway, every crypto has its own benefits but how important is it for you to have a variety of different cryptos to play in casinos?

On-site gaming currency should be independent of deposit/withdrawal currency. For example, casino should maintain the balance of players in chips. The value of chips shall be pegged to one of the cryptocurrency (let say 1 BTC = 100M chips) and floating rate of such cryptocurrency shall be used to maintain the exchange rate for other currencies.

This mechanism have many benefits:

  • Many players have reported problem in using bitcoin due to its high price. They are confused in using decimal values and sometimes bet 10 times more than the expected. Even using mBTC or uBTC don't help because they don't understand the conversation rate (Mathematics you know!)
  • Using different cryptocurrencies offer ease to players but at the same time segregates the game matches in multiplayer gaming. Using common gaming currency solves this problem.
  • It eases the accounting of casino as owner can easily maintain the accounts and statements when all profit/loss are measured in common denomination i.e. chips.

775  Other / Meta / Re: How are these accounts living 10 seconds in one second? on: April 27, 2020, 07:46:37 AM
It's a bug, I remember a thread discuss about this, here the link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179823.0 and this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3173586.0

It’s been on the table to discuss a couple of times. Last I recall was on this thread: Most time online list, is it a bug? . To me it looked like bot accounts that are active 24/7 (using multiple simultaneous access).

Got it! I don't think we needed another thread for the same discussion. I will close this one.
776  Other / Meta / How are these accounts living 10 seconds in one second? on: April 27, 2020, 07:34:26 AM
I was checking the Bitcointalk stats when I noticed the accounts in the 'Most Time Online' list:

Sorry if I am missing something but all these accounts have registered in August 2018 which means even if these remain online for 24 hours, maximum days can be 610 or something. How can these accounts remain online 12 times more than the possible time?
777  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk SwC Championship Poker Series(50 mBtc added by SwC) on: April 26, 2020, 08:20:35 PM
See ya'll at the final table next week.  Do we need chips to get into the tourny?

Nope. Buy-in is 0 chip. Only password needed for registration.

#1 Bitcointalk Championship Runner-up Game is live!

I would now like to "officially" announce that we will have a Runner-up Tournament for everyone who won't make it to the Championship Final! SwC are generously hosting this and sponsoring a Freeroll with a 10,000 Chips Prize pool and it's going to take place on 03 May.

I am little confused. Who will play the runners-up tournament? Position 10-18 or all those who didn't qualify for championship and played at least a game or all those who got at least a point? Can you clarify

Very good question, thanks for asking webtricks. It's supposed to be a community event for all the poor souls who didn't qualify for the championship final and played at least one game - otherwise this would mean a weekend without poker with the fellow bitcointalk mates... unthinkable, no?! Smiley

Great! I hope players who won't win anything in Championship don't compete in Runners-up tourney. We guys should have some winnings too. Cheesy
778  Local / India / Re: Crypto ATM in India. Would it be worth it ? on: April 26, 2020, 04:35:11 PM
I would suggest you to check the stats of previous ATM which was removed by police. I am too interested to withdraw cash from Crypto ATM, but this will take more time and RBI should make it legal.

What is the exchange rate with this Bitcoin ATM and do we get same rate as on exchanges?

I think you are mistaken. There isn't any new ATM. OP is talking about the one and the only attempted machine that Unocoin tried to set up as an ATM 1.5 years ago. Since that machine was forcibly removed by Karnataka Police, no other company/exchange set up any machine in India. So there isn't any exchange rate as there is no ATM.
779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Day when Big Bang theory gave Bitcoins a free commercial on: April 26, 2020, 04:04:23 PM
Talking about TV Series, 'Silicon Valley' and 'Mr. Robot' did much more than any other series.

If I remember correctly, in Season 5 of Silicon Valley, CEO of the company 'Pied Piper' rejected VC investment and rather went for ICO. They even launched a coin named 'pied piper coin' (of-course not real). Bitcoin is already very familiar to most of the people but this was the first time I was asked about ICO by my friends/family.

So yeah, such promo from TV series/movies is good boost for the popularity of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
780  Local / India / Re: Thoughts and Suggestions on unofficial rules being followed in Indian board on: April 26, 2020, 02:11:33 PM
Nice thought.

Alt Coins (India) and Regional Languages (India) are two boards which require instant attention.

Currently, Alt Coins (India) has become a regional copy of Annoncements (Altcoin) section. The board doesn't contain anything else than announcement threads of Altcoins/Tokens. It shall have one sub-board. The main Altcoins (India) board shall be used for general altcoin and Indian projects (like Exchanges, crypto projects) related discussion and the sub-board for announcement threads in regional language with a clear cut pinned thread instructing members to not post ANNs in main board.

On the other hand, Regional Languages (India) section has completely become directionless. I don't see much utility in that section. Some members publish translation of popular Bitcointalk threads in that section which is the only good thing I see there. Except that, most of the threads are purposeless.
