801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Selecting Bounties - A pocket guide! on: August 12, 2018, 03:34:47 PM
You added some practical tips here. Most of the bounties that are being managed by newbie ranks or team members end up being scam only.

Still some members fall for these as  everyone is in hurry to make money. For me, choosing a good campaign is the most important aspect of bounty.
802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are bounty participant really the cause of dumping coins? on: August 12, 2018, 03:31:37 PM
I do not think that this is the major cause of price drop. This is because even bitcoin prices are dropping. And we do not see bitcoin being distributed in an Airdrop now.

The reasons currently are quite strong as they have kept prices in check for so long.

803  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: August 12, 2018, 02:33:42 PM
Howdy! Lads and Gals, I have recently opened a cricket betting pool. I was wondering if you guys would like to participate in it. The Entry fee is 0.005 BTC and the pool pot will be 0.05 BTC. You can read more about the pool in the thread. I am looking for 9 members to join to start things off.

I will give it a try if the countries involved are of interest to me. You got  a nice concept though. may be , you can add the spreadsheet link in the thread so that we can see current progress.
804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is best practice for gambling?? on: August 12, 2018, 02:31:12 PM
Interesting, such a good strategy you can prepared, but I think that very few people can fully follow that strategy. Once people become addicted then they find it hard to follow their strategies or to play gambling upto a limit which they have set for their gambling, but they continue tell the lose everything they have, in some cases people even take loan from their friend but want to continue playing gambling.

There are ways to compel yourself to stop after a certain point:

1) If you are married, transfer funds to another account for gambling related activities only. Give the other passbook and details to your wife.

2) There are apps that can be handy for this to monitor and control daily expenses.
805  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How many hours a day are you spending on online gambling? on: August 12, 2018, 02:28:55 PM
Hours will be wrong word for me. It is less than an hour now and sometimes no game even for weeks. I am very much busy with my regular work. One thing I always try to cover are big tournaments especially the free ones. Smiley
806  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Excuses on: August 12, 2018, 02:27:11 PM
That's a big no-no. Gambling with another person's money is a great way to lose that person's trust and friendship.
You meant that borrow money from someone or to gamble with someone's money?

In my country , a lot of young guys use the parents money to gamble. Most of the times they hide this from parents. I know some guys who lost all their tuition fees on this and that was a huge amount for their parents. It always ends on bad note leaving scars on your relation with parents. They will not be able to trust you in future.

One of my friends also took a lot of money to day trade (little different from gambling). But he was kind of making bling guesses only as he has no experience of all this.
807  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does convince people to enjoy gambling is a wrong idea? on: August 12, 2018, 02:24:42 PM
In my opinion, you cannot do anything about that anymore and that is out of your control. It’s the persons personal agenda now and people who have tried something that they had fun and want to continue might have some problems in the future. It’s not wrong to teach them the right thing but it’s up to them to do what is right.

Very correct. You may ask a friend to try few times with you but you cannot force him to continue this. I will not say that it is a wrong idea to introduce gambling to a friend. But if you have friend who is very casual with work or has less control on himself, things can get complicated once he starts this.

Personally, I would never do anything that can affect my friendship with my close friends.
808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the world ready for cryptocurrency? on: August 11, 2018, 05:12:31 PM
It is already being used by many for :

1) Buying online services with anonymity. It is a good option for people who do not want to disclose their identity with payment.

2) Ideal for donations website.

3) Being used as an investment option by millions of people.
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin situation on: August 11, 2018, 05:06:14 PM
90% of those who are talking about death of bitcoin are the same people who are trying so hard to buy bitcoin when it drops a small 5% so that they can accumulate a tiny bit more.
The rest 10% are the newbies who fall for the 90% FUD and are scared of the situation.

I do not think this is the case. The reverse might be true. 90% are the people who are burnt as they invested at peaks. I know that bitcoin is not dead but with such a bitter experience with their first investment (new investors) will think twice before investing anything more.

The people spreading FUD had already given up now, the FUD threads here are those which get bumped by new members.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who controls the crypto market? on: August 11, 2018, 04:21:16 PM
In short the price is determined by supply and demand.

Now supply and demand is affected by factors like :

1) If there is a good news about crypto, it will increase demand.

2) If a major economy bans crypto, demand will reduce.

3) A major hack on an exchange will cause panic and force users to sell thus increasing supply.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5 Ways to Avoid Bitcoin Scams on: August 11, 2018, 04:02:06 PM
One of the most common thing that all scammers use are fake screenshots. They take screenshot of crypto earnings from other people, post it on social networking websites as their own and then scam them. Some people still fall for all this.

The easiest way to remain safe from all this is not to buy any service or course related to cryptro. There are enough free resources on crypto to start with.
812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 1 year change on: August 11, 2018, 03:58:27 PM
Those people forgot about the real price of bitcoin. Last year, at this moment, the bitcoin price was 1500 - 1900 USD. No one thought bitcoin can make even 10K USD in 2017! In 1 year, bitcoin changed significantly. At this moment, the bitcoin price is 6600 USD, can you think about 2019? It can be 40K USD or 34K USD! So, from August 2017 to August 2018, every crypto holders made a huge profit already. Now, stop blaming bitcoin.

If we compare with that situation, even $50000 would seem reliable.

But a little more analysis and thought would give another picture. The rise in price of bitcoin from $2000 to $19000 was due to a number of new investors coming as bitcoin got a lot of coverage. Now most of them are in loss. The big crash that happened then has irritated all those investors. They are not going to invest more till they recover the earlier loss.
813  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are you still holding when market price falls abnormally? on: August 11, 2018, 03:51:45 PM
Yes I am holding because :

1) If I sell, the recent investment I made will be in loss. There is no way I am going to sell in loss.

2) I expected that I might have to wait longer for good returns. So, I am in no hurry.
814  Other / Meta / Re: A low Colette post merited on: August 10, 2018, 07:12:38 PM
I had a quick look the post and it is hard to say with confirmation that there is merit abuse here. Try if you can find more proofs of both accounts belonging to same member.

And please correct the spellling mistakes in OP.
815  Other / Meta / Re: I'm sorry for my mistakes and hope you forgive me on: August 10, 2018, 07:09:53 PM
I remember reading a very similar thread here recently.  In that cases also the section was not reversed.

It is clearly mentioned in forum rules that there is permanent ban for posting copied content. Now,  it may appear harsh but the decision is final and irrevedible. You should accept the reality.

Is bitcointalk being flooded with bots?

Yes. And shitposters/account farmers which might as well be bots because they contribute little to nothing here. I've suggested a few things to try combat this. All new accounts have to be manually verified by a staff member before their posts show up. Removing signatures completely from lower ranks until you've got at least one merit or achieved Member status etc. A a captcha for your first post or two.

What type of verification are you talking about here?

That captcha for some posts sounds like a good idea.  It can reduce the spam with bots to some extent.
817  Other / Meta / Re: 95% redundant posts. Research bitcoin before posting on: August 10, 2018, 07:03:57 PM
I also sometimes feel that there are a lot of repetive topics in sections like bitcoin discussion. Rarely,  I see some innovative topics in those sections.

The replies there are also mainly one liners made just to I crease activity.  Someone suggested listing the thread repeonses based on number of merits.  It is a good idea in my opinion.  Till,  we have such a solution,  what I do is that if I see a good post from a user in topic I am interested,  I bookmatk his profile.  Generally,  all posts of that user are useful.
818  Other / Meta / Re: Whitelist & possible (confirmed) altcoin giveaway? on: August 10, 2018, 06:55:14 PM
Is there an official mention of the activity cooling times for all the ranks here?  Is it also related to activity?

Again in cases like that of OP it should get automatically reduced on achieving a good number of valid reports.
819  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How useful is bounty programs to the overall success of icos? on: August 06, 2018, 05:44:54 PM
When you take away bounty campaign from most project icos, the icos will die a good death.

Actually, it has become kind of a standard procedure and all new projects follow this. No doubt it must be benefiting those projects, otherwise why will they spend so much money on it. Many other people are also benefited as they provide related services like telegram channel support and all.

But there are some downsides as well. It has become  very common and many spammers get away with most of the coins by creating multiple accounts.
820  Economy / Economics / Re: When bitcoin prices rise up the market also will on: August 06, 2018, 05:36:31 PM
bitcoin is a benchmark for investor interest in cryptocurrency, if the price of bitcoin rises it is likely that the altcoin price will also rise and vice versa.

That is true but I would like it to change with time :

1) All coins depending on bitcoin prices defeats the purpose of diversification. It s bad for investors.

2) Juts because bitcoin is the first crypto coin, it should not be the number one always. That will stop further updates or improvements which only competition can bring with time.
