I'm working on setting up a news site, purchased nxtnews.co and of course the alias..
setting up a host and getting wordpress installed. plan on an honest, unfiltered outlet for articles, charts, and trends.
if anyone had any suggestions or wants to contribute, please let me know
We do have http://info.nxtcrypto.org as our news site that is updated very regularly. also there is a forum for news items discussion at https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewforum.php?f=49 please give it another shot - we've recently changed the site look. I'm running just normal computer and normal NXT node. You know, download NXT, install, run. Just 1 node. Balance is 501 NXT. TCP port was not forwarded so I added port forwarding with http://sourceforge.net/projects/upnp-portmapper but D:U ratio still goes 1:50+ almost immidiately after I ran NXT. When looking at current blocks tab as well as peers tab, it becomes obvious that my node uploads a lot of data to all other nodes as soon as it receives a new block.  remove that port forward if the data traffic is causing you problems. maybe your IP got added into a list somewhere for wellknownpeers is the only thing I can guess Can you reset your modem/router to try to get a different IP address? Are you at home on private IP net or does the PC have a public IP address? Temp change the MAC on your PC to try to force a new DHCP lease with a new address |

Ermm why is my node uploading way more data than downloading? It is like that constantly.  same for me - looks like the columns were switched, didn't pay attention until now... anyone else? Could someone please answer our questions? Is it merely a bug somewhere or it is normal D:U ratio is 1:50+ ? is your node hallmarked? If so, what is the balance? are you running any nodes elsewhere with that hallmark? Does your nat/router/firewall forward TCP port 7874 to the computer that is running your java instance? |

Let Ripple act as Gateway for Fiat....we use them as middle man.
thats fine for now with peercover, but Id prefer options for direct country's fiat/NXT exchange. Dont want ripple getting to powerful |

well, who knows but it is unlikely that a user/s sends again to
the same wrong account. if my script hasn't any fundamental error
i would say there are ~26m nxt hibernating.
Well, my whole idea for tracking the hibernating NXT was to be able to tell how much was secured by only 2^64. I guess you or others may have different reasons for tracking it? |

hmm, just ran the hiberNXT script here and the numbers
seems way to high. i guess an additional filter makes sense.
to approximate i think an account with more than one transaction
without a key could be consider as a cold wallet.
accounts without key total: 5.509 - nxt : 164.006.650
without key and only 1 trans.: 3.626 - NXT : 26.635.400
any other idea how to filter, doesn't this makes sense at all?
to be sure i am testing my db and script again.

You forget about probability of huge transfer made accidentally by stakeholder to wrong account number because of NXT Client freeze, like many other users who had such issue before but with less amounts. I don't think that is a huge issues. The 250m are most likely from people that don't even know that you have to make a transaction to create a public key. Hell i didn't know until 7 days ago and i have 6 digits of them... As far as we all are concerned (those of use with no access to those accts with no published public keys) they are the same scenario and are subject to cracking. Ive already reached out to counterra and asked them to look into curve25519 performance of their terraminer IV 2THps sha256 asics |

nextcoin.org has not any relation with Nxt core development and foundation and also due to recent
negative developments in its twin's site dgex.com, I've been asked by some of the active members
to inform you to follow only btt main threads or nxtcrypto.org .
There was also a bounty pool scandal in nextcoin.org (which I am not updated anymore to judge) that
in any case make it safer and wiser to follow the official voices.
We should not allow some opportunists and scammers destroy the picture and reputation of Nxt.

Good idea. Is someone going to do that? API already lets to get the data. can add it, how to calculate? loop all accounts for empty publicKey + sum? any additional filter or key to seperate real dark from just inactivity? Yes, anything with NXT but no public key should be totalled. Maybe the page would list all dark accounts, with the sum at top and below it a list of all the accounts and their balances? I guess we're going with the term "darkNXT"? I kinda like hiberNXT or frozeNXT |

Eh? I think we're working off different definitions of darkNXT!
- NXT that is in an account that nobody knows the passphrase of == darkNXT
- NXT that is in an account that hasn't yet got a public key in the block chain (i.e. no transfers out, no aliases, no forging) != darkNXT
That 250million figure is including the latter, right? No way to distinguish between the two from a technical point of view.
I think you are confusing things, there are 2 different possibilities: NXT sitting in an account that does not have a public key in the blockchain. NXT sitting in an account that has a public key in the blockchain, but where the passphrase/privatekey is lost. The former is "hiberNXT" and most will probably be recovered some day (2^64) The latter one is truly "dead" and will prob never ever never be recovered (2^256) Also, the former can be broken into 2 categories: An account where a person does know a passphrase to unlock it (one of 2^256 private keys, but still crackable by 2^64 since there is no public key published). This was done by a person wishing to stash their NXT somewhere; I would consider this to be dumb; the account should publish its public key so as to not be crackable by 2^64 and to obtain 2^256 security. The person knowing that passphrase can still unlock the account and send the NXT. An account where a person does NOT know a passphrase to unlock it. In this case nothing cand be done until the account is cracked in a few years. |

So with darkNXT out there has anyone thought already about mining it?  I have some thoughts on how to do this from the technical standpoint but don't really know if it's profitable. Can someone perhaps provide rough estimates on number of darkNXT accounts and their total amount? ~250M @ 1000+ accounts. Edit: U should start from one with almost 50M on it. holy crap that is a LOT. OK, can we get some darkNXT tracking built into blockexplorer and into API? ETA: how easy would it be to adapt one of the terraminer 2THps machines cranking on that? |
