I haven't used Armory, but can't we sign the transaction and push it through online services like Blockchain, Eligius and Blockr.io?  ~~MZ~~ Maybe you should  No, the offline system does not know about the blockchain and Armory uses its own database format for this info. The online system does not know about the private keys. So the info about input/output selection needs to go from the online to the offline system first. Only once that's signed it could pushed on those services. [...] Why would I be unable to get Armory online?
Another advantage getting Armory online first is that you could download the offline bundle using the secure downloader including offline verifiable signatures. Might make it a bit more convenient. |

If I remember correctly you can set the time between Google Auth requests from the site somewhere in the options. So if you set it to 20 mins it will not ask for Google Auth in that timeframe.

BIP38 encrypted and shared with Shamir Secret Sharing technique in as many parts as you please and pick your number for recovery. After that it's just a matter of mitigating risk, think your house will burn down? Engrave some of the shares in metal. Think your USB stick will fail? Use several from different manufacturers. Etc.
Distribute the shares in different physical locations and be imaginative.
At the same time think about how your heirs can get to your keys, in case you get hit by a bus.

Back then you were active in the Cognitive thread and were asked simple questions, which you never answered. This was before hashfast and the DC issue. Did you put your old wallet.dat in the exact directory it belongs to? Is the client fully synchronised?

I do that too sometimes. The one thing you need to get across to them is that it is of utmost importance that they alone control the private keys to their bitcoins. Otherwise be a bank and take responsibility for your customers' deposits. For some less technically inclined people I had good success of introducing them to the Trezor. Others prefer a paperwallet and use Mycelium to spend from it. Once they decide on a method or wallet software, teach them the process and do some sample transactions, so they get familiar with the process. I agree that it is important that they can come back to you with any questions they have. Every backdoor you are trying to have to access their account for your "services" can potentially opened by somebody else too. Additionally any "problems" with addresses and balances can easily be checked on a block explorer, iike for example blockr.io The one solution for "managing" other users BTC I'm aware of is the PAMM on btc-e, but that is for trading only, not withdrawing or providing "services". |

I had a quick look and one thing I miss in the tutorial is that he does not check file signature hashes, yes, do it for the Ubuntu download too. I had 12.04 and encrypted my disk, not sure why he recommends the alternate installer. The quickest way is to use the offline bundle provided by Armory. The offline bundle needs to match the Ubuntu release it was built for, so get that particular release that is mentioned on the download page. This will also save you the whole apt-offline part. If you want or need (depending on your offline computer specs) any other Ubuntu flavour, I wrote a quick guide how to update an offline Lubuntu 14.04 using Synaptic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=777625.0 This can be adapted to other flavours too. So, it really depends on your preference. The easiest way for sure is the one described on the Armory website with getting the offline bundles from them. I don't know about verifying signatures on a Mac, but I thought Mac has a terminal too? You could try the commands given there. As an option you could run a small Linux in a VM. 5.) Is a non-issue on Linux. A file can not be automatically run, just because it's called autorun.bat |

For the board with the regulator programming error, can you verify that 12V is good to each of the connectors? I'll be able to check that on Monday. For the other error, I've only seen that once in relation to multipool. Does that happen immediately after a block is detected and you get a stratum restart? I've talked with Con a little about this, and his opinion is also that it is a problem with the GWQ. The longterm solution is probably to completely replace the HF driver and allow cgminer to schedule work, but I honestly don't think that will ever happen. Try removing backup pools temporarily to see if the issue goes away. I don't have 4.6.x on any machines, mostly a mix of 4.5 and 4.3.
I have removed the backup pools and still get that error. For finding the block detections and stratum restarts I guess I have to pipe the cgminer output to a log file? In the meanwhile I have read through the HF-Tool thread as well. But no matter how I send the info to my boards, it only picks up the first to values and assigns the second value to the other 3 boards as well. To illustrate: --hfa-options "hab2:800@890,hab3:875@935,hab4:850@920,hab5:875@935,hab6:850@920" This results in hab2 at 800 and hab3, hab4, hab5 and hab6 at 875. I'm using 4.4.1 I am going on a limb and say nobody ever tried that with more than 2 devices? Uh oh.... Dabs may have cashed in her chips.
I shut it off to put a kill-a-watt on it, and when I switched back on - nil. Lights blink for just a sec and then the PSU shuts down.
PSU roulette with another habanero eliminates the PSU as a problem.
Can someone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot it?

I do believe that in suggesting that (or any) entropy estimation tool, you just contradicted yourself...
Entropy estimation tools such as the one mentioned can provide, at best, an upper bounds estimate, and therefore provide a false sense of security. They assume password crackers only use particular predetermined techniques when generating password guesses, however crackers are forever improving their techniques (furthermore these techniques are not necessarily public knowledge). The developer of the tool writes a bit about entropy estimation in this blog post, which may be of interest to you: https://tech.dropbox.com/2012/04/zxcvbn-realistic-password-strength-estimation/ (scroll down about a third of the page) The (nice, thanks for that) article you pointed to exactly demonstrates this. I took the first "difficult" password mentioned in the article (which has been successfully cracked using the described techniques), and plugged it into the estimation tool, and got this: password: Am i ever gonna see your face again?

It seems awfully unlikely that the article's authors were able to crack a password with 101 bits of entropy, hence the estimate is a bad one. So, just to reiterate: estimating entropy is really hard... Of course, anything you can find on google (using quotation marks around the search term), you don't need to bother putting it in that tool. Contrary to other "password check" tools, zxcvbn at least makes mention of that by showing "pattern: dictionary". |

how does it works? would the orders within the dark pool to be priority? no. all orders get matched in the same way. dark pool orders are not displayed in public orderbook - that's the only difference. Just to clarify: Do they show in the history? |

If it is in there, in theory it can be used. Some people want to use thicker "tinfoil hats" then others. I personally don't think it is necessary to go to these extremes (or to the extremes that CIYAM went to above) as I believe the incremental amount of security is low
Only if the attacker has access to the device. At that point I wouldn't worry about USB/wifi security issues anymore. You got a bigger problem then. Well, in a worse case scenario, an attacker could enable the wifi + somehow capture the private key when it is unencrypted to sign a TX. Please explain how he could enable wifi on the device without physical access to the device. It's enough, for me, to live in a gated community with armed guards roaming, with CCTV all over the place. And of course, I am armed myself.

Sometimes the "attack" can come from unexpected angles. There was a thread the other day where a guy lost his private keys he had on his phone wallet. Turns out his kids had access to the phone and deleted the Mycelium data (but not the app) to make room for a game they wanted to play. |
