861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining rig used as a water heater for a bathhouse business on: July 04, 2023, 03:34:10 PM
It can be unsafe to have an ASIC running at your home 24/7, because some component might overheat, short-circuit and start a fire while you are sleeping or away from home.

Are you for real? I'm asking because this reads like a joke. Your TV, fridge, AC unit, computer can also overheat and short. What about wood or gas furnaces that most of us have? What about solar panels?
That's why you follow safety rules. For instance, you can put miners in a dedicated room, where there's no furniture around them and nothing to catch fire. You also makes sure there's a smoke detector in that room and that you have a fire extinguisher in the house.

The miners mentioned by OP are submerged, so there's low risk of fire, unless you somehow reach the temperatures where mineral oil or whatever fluid they have in there ignites, but that's well above boiling temperature so a mining unit would need to keep heating up the coolant in the tank until the whole thing starts boiling and then beyond that, to the level of ignition, so something above 150C. They'd get alarms all over the place well before that.
862  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does lottery rewards expire? on: July 03, 2023, 08:22:34 PM
You can google it, OP. In case of US lotteries it's usually 180 days to claim the money. In some cases it's 90 days, but no less than that.
In the UK national lottery it's 180 days and in the EU it's the same.

If you win an online lottery, the win is credited to your account and should be available as long as you have access to the account. If the casino is located in any of the above jurisdictions, the time co claim should be at least 180 days, or unlimited, although some sites can have a specific time to claim written in T&C.
863  Economy / Economics / Re: What could Elon Musk be buying next? on: July 03, 2023, 08:07:16 PM
Tesla is such a powerhouse for him that everything else is just his toys. He doesn't want to be the CEO of twitter. It's like a playground that he liked to have fun with, so he bought it.
He's probably going to keep expanding Tesla to get the EV market on every continent. The deal is to make cheaper and more reliable cars and you can see the trend here where new Teslas are becoming cheaper and cheaper. I still think they're too expensive for what they offer, but that's me.
864  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which Crypto coin Do You Gamble with the Most? on: June 30, 2023, 02:55:27 PM
I use only bitcoin at this point and I don't touch any other. I might have some ETH and ADA left somewhere on these wallets, but that's dust compared to my BTC holdings.
At this point everything that I do revolves around bitcoin. I buy stuff with bitcoin, earn bitcoin, save up in bitcoin and gamble using bitcoin Cool
I don't care about fees, wouldn't compromise myself on some exchange trying to buy an altcoin and being forced to do KYC just to save on fees. Not worth it.
865  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino on a cruise ship? on: June 30, 2023, 02:47:32 PM
It is not worth to try it on a cruise ship. I didn’t do this but I can make some guesses. The rates will suck, the selection of games will suck… that’s because it is a cruise ship, that’s their actual job. They are not really a casino and more importantly, when you are on a cruise ship why would you possibly want to visit a casino anyway? If you are so desperate you can always play from your phone.

It's like everything in an enclosed space. Just go to an amusement park where you pay an entry fee for the day. Everything will be overpriced, food will generally suck, you'll pay a few bucks for a bottle of water... A similar thing is with drinks in a casino or a night club. They tend to be more overpriced than in a pub, where people come to drink, so they watch the prices. At a night club people come for the girls, so a drink can be 3x more expensive.
A casino on a cruise ship knows that if some guy is a gambler, he's stuck with them. He doesn't have a choice and can go to another one down the street, there's just one, so stakes will be high from the start and odds not in your favor.
866  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between futures trading and gambling on: June 30, 2023, 02:38:39 PM
Gambling and trading are not similar. There are quite a few differences between gambling and futures trading in terms of type.

Futures trading is not normal trading. You're trading an index that doesn't have much to do with the real thing. It takes data from exchanges that it partners with and you're betting money on that data going up or down, without owning anything.
When you trade an asset like bitcoin, you own it. When you sell it, you really get rid of it on the market. When you decide to buy futures, you buy nothing, a contract with a company, just like when you send money to a bookie. In this matter futures trading and gambling are very similar.

Meanwhile Putin (allegedly) is hugging people in Dagestan of all places, a bizarre departure from mile-long tables and week-long quarantines. Desperate for PR apparently.

It could be one of his doubles. He's got plenty of them, recently they were even in two places at once.
I think that real Putin is in his bunker. He'd be in that enormous residence if they haven't leaked its plans and the locations of underground tunnels leading to the beach.
868  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your rate in betting base on odds alone? on: June 29, 2023, 07:26:28 PM
I see many of you want to discourage OP from gambling, but this is a gambling forum! Most of us here gamble or have gambled and most of us advertise a casino, so saying that he shouldn't gamble when he wants to make money is contradictory.

I say gamble, just set yourself goals that are reachable. If you really want to make some bitcoin in a safe way, work for it, sell some stuff for bitcoin and so on, but if you want to try to gamble, go for it. Best way for me would be to bet fiat money and if you sin, pocket the bitcoin profit and move it to your offline wallet.
869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 9.5 million flagged bitcoins on: June 29, 2023, 07:15:57 PM
is it safe to buy bitcoins from these 9.5million btc (maybe from 9.5million flagged btc)

If these "flags" had any real meaning, what would happen with coins seized by the US government? They would have to destroy it and never sell it.
What happens when you buy these coins from the government, because many people bought seized coins on auctions?

Don't you have more serious things to worry about? Every single day some US dollars are used to buy drugs. Do you worry that you could get some of these and give your kid as lunch money? Cheesy
870  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Which of these Categories of Bitcoiners are Most Bullish? on: June 28, 2023, 06:58:18 PM
Out of the 4 categories that you listed, it's easily the Bitcoin noobs.

The developers don't care that much about the price, they are focused on making Bitcoin better because it's their passion. The miners and institutions are first of all focused on profits. They don't need Bitcoin to go up and up to profit, they just need it to not crash too hard. As long as the price is not too low, they will be collecting fees and making profit.

So, only noobs here are the most interested in Bitcoin going up, because that's their whole strategy - getting rich quick.

Of course, the noobs are the most bullish because in their minds they have the most to lose. When you have very little, every penny counts.
Miners sell bitcoin every month to pay their electricity bills, they aren't top bulls, to them it's just business.
Institutions usually hold their coins on exchanges or with custodials. They're always ready to sell at a sign of failure. Microstrategy is a special breed because Saylor is an extreme bull, but most companies are ready to sell at any moment.
Core developers don't continue to invest. They may hold some bitcoin but they don't stack every satoshi like some people here on the forum.

I do not belong to any of these groups. I'm just a simple saver who prefers to spend fiat and save in bitcoin.
871  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ads for online gambling should be banned. on: June 28, 2023, 06:47:57 PM
This shouldn't affect the signature campaigns for crypto casinos because it's unlikely that the forum admins will cooperate with them. On the other hand, most crypto casinos have Australia under their geo-restriction list, so they're not losing anything if gambling ads do get banned in Australia in the future. I doubt they can stop every gambling advertisement we see on different platforms when they're only limited to the ones under their control or until the other party agrees with their plan.

Of course because each country has its own laws regarding gambling and gambling ads. There are already some countries where gambling is banned, but id did not affect bitcointalk, just as there are countries were bitcoin is banned, but it doesn't stop people from these countries from making accounts ere and being a part of the community.
Bitcointalk staff cannot obey every single rule imposed by every single country, because it's impossible, especially since some of them contradict each other.

872  Economy / Services / Re: Update On Someone Paid Me $2,500 in April And Forgot... on: June 28, 2023, 06:31:06 PM
Someone who is not a member of this forum, but knows a bitcointalk moderator, paid OP to do a job, but forgot to collect it and the moderator doesn't seem to know them either, so OP wrote this story on bitcointalk, so that person, who doesn't use bitcointalk, sees it and responds... I bet only OP understands his motives, but we are all dumb for not understanding and not believing.
873  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: June 27, 2023, 08:16:55 PM
Some little advice for some poorly fed troll, Kyiv was conquered in under 3 hours, the Russian army destroyed 3 times all of the NATO, Commonwealth, Black Hole , Cardassian Order , Earth Sphere Federation , Gungan, The Host of the West and Rasalhague Kungsarmé armies, Fulda Gap was overrun in 3 weeks, Portugal was conquered 3 months into the camping and now I hear those damn rashist led by Potemkin are just 200 miles from Moscow!
No clue how to read damn fucking map but this would mean Spokane went from lilac to commie red, so how much till we go full Red Dawn?

It was the Obsidian Order, from the Cardassian Union, but I appreciate the reference.

It was fun while it lasted. I laughed when Putin said that it was a coup and a treachery. I thought it was a special Wagner operation.
In the end Putin said mercenaries can do what they want, they can join the army or go to Belarus, or go home if they want, but he hopes they'll choose to serve the country.
He wants people who wanted his head, traitors, to go home, or join the army... Scared old Vlad...
874  Economy / Services / Re: Someone Paid Me $2,500 in April And Forgot... on: June 27, 2023, 08:06:49 PM
Yea? I really used to see you as one of the reasonable fellows on this forum prior to this time. In fact, I once quoted one of your comments about an exploit in one of my blogs, perhaps, when it goes beyond computers, it isn't really your turf. That you never trust people doesn't mean there are no people who do trust. "Create reputation indeed" Not everyone is living on Bitcointalk for reputation.

But you seem to be living off bitcointalk. I'm talking about your account deals.
The way I see it, we'd next see someone come and claim they were the ones who broke a deal with you and got all the money back. These stories usually have a continuation if left to unfold in peace, but unfortunately for you too many people came to this thread and spoiled it. Back to the drawing board Tongue
875  Economy / Economics / Re: After Making Money In Bitcoin, How is Black Tax Affecting You Economically? on: June 27, 2023, 07:40:41 PM
I can't put myself in your shoes OP, because I have a very small family to take care of. My father always had some money and he's a man of small needs. I know he'll never spend his savings because of the way he lives, and even if he tried he's got enough to live a good life for another 10+ years without having to lift a finger.

I never had to support my family financially, it was rather the other way round. Nowadays I don't get anything from them, but they also don't need me, apart from the occasional help with bills and papers, which is typical for old folks.

If you're earning good money, try to give your family the rod instead of the fish. Give them a business idea, maybe help them find jobs, or buy them a place they can turn into a small store, or a food stand. A child should never be the main provider for the family. You can help them from time to time, but you should not be their slave.
Come up with an amount of money you can give them each month, and make sure this is less than 50% of what you make.
876  Economy / Economics / Re: Should I Use Emergency funds or Sell my Assets ? on: June 27, 2023, 07:24:24 PM
Are you holding fiat? Do you not know that if you are holding fiat, it is like your government are scamming you, although it is not a scam, but it is a means to lose money as your fiat money lose value and unable to buy what you can use it to buy before.

It's actually a tax on those who hold money, especially the middle class. Rich guys have investment portfolios, hold gold. The poor spend everything they get every month, so they aren't affected that much, but the middle class, the people who have some savings, but not enough to have a stock portfolio or a number of real estate properties, have to pay the tax.

Yeah, what is that saying?  Inflation is theft, taxation is robbery?

Inflation is just another form of taxation. Diluting the money supply makes everyone who holds it lose and makes all other assets gain value against the currency.

I'd use my emergency funds if I were you, but don't go to 0. When you're down to whatever you earn in a month, it should be a sign that you're getting into dangerous territory and better start looking for another job, or a property to sell. Maybe you have a spare room at home? Maybe you have 2 cars and could manage with 1?
877  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bet on live game or while game hasn't started yet? on: June 26, 2023, 07:51:23 PM
I prefer to bet before the match. I feel like betting during the match is more chaotic and can lead to wrong decisions.

I'll give you an example. One time we were watching a game with friends and we all bet on our national team. They were losing early on, so we were all saying that we regret betting on them and it was actually 1-0 in the first half for the opponents. If I had the chance to remove the bet, after that first half I'd do it because of the atmosphere in the room where we were all hating on the team. It made their game look worse than it actually was. They ended up getting 2 goals in the second half and winning the game. You never really know who's going to win, but the game itself and the stress of it can cloud your judgement.
878  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price hitting 30k twice this year. on: June 23, 2023, 06:50:11 PM
The bitcoin price is currently at 31k and needed to break the 31k resistance level but now that bitcoin has managed to reach that price, I think the bitcoin price will continue to 33k in the near future.
bitcoin is expected to continue its bullish trend in July and it is possible that the price will be higher than in August and we can be sure that in August the bitcoin price will decrease slightly, maybe it will return to the price of 26k-25k or again.
and this is just my opinion and eventually the price of bitcoin will rise again, and some positive news related to bitcoin could be one of the main sentiments in preparation for next year's bitcoin halving.

Resistances tend to move. They are just levels that we failed to break the last time, but it could have been due to the fact that there was a large seller setting up a wall of coins at that level and we kept bouncing off, but that seller doesn't have to be there now, a few weeks later. Don't forget that the SEC attacked Binance and many people took money out of exchanges, so there was much less liquidity on the market compared to a April when prices were pumping for the first time.

Wait for us to break 32k because above that there's no known resistance level up to 40k, so if we can stay above 32k, we'll poke the low 40s for sure.
I think it's inevitable this year that we do it.
879  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Investors Confidence in Bitcoin💪 on: June 23, 2023, 06:30:41 PM
I hope it keeps going up but I treat it only as a confidence booster. I don't care if it goes up or down tomorrow because I'm not going to sell.
They'd have to offer me a lot of money, like maybe 100k+ right now for me to touch my stash and then I still wouldn't dump it, maybe sell 10% just to have fun, like I always do in the bull runs.
Having fun and spending some profits gives me energy to endure next bear markets without falling into despair.
880  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lotteries and possibility vs. probability on: June 23, 2023, 06:20:54 PM
Lotteries are popular because people can't count.

It's easy for us to calculate probability when something can happen 30% of a time or 10% of a time, our brain gets that, but when you go below 0.1% it really doesn't matter. Human brain sees it as very very low possibility, but existent. Then you can decrease it to 0.0001% and the person will still say that the possibility is very low, but it's there. So the lottery creators make sure you have a very very low chance, like 1 to a few million, and tell you that the entry fee is extremely low, like $1 and you go for it because your brain tells you "what if?"
